People still passing judgement on a 14yr old girl. It was 1958, not the times of MeToo. She was trying to survive. Traumatized and threatened. Remember Patty Hearst? She was held prisoner and raped. She went along because our survival instinct kicks in. Caril was just a girl trying to survive. The prosecutor and judge should be disbarred for encouraging communication between the two of them. It’s illegal but yet he wrote her a letter on the judges stationary. He changed his story after she wrote him back. What in the hell is wrong with them letting him write her? Everyone involved in that case lied and harmed that girl as much as Starkweather did. Shame on all of them.

Actually, Starkweather had already started to blame her prior to the written communication between them. He had written his note on the Scottsbluff county jail wall 2 days after they were arrested. He was already blaming her for the murders of Mrs.Ward and her maid. There are pictures of this note in many of the books.

My children are step great grandchildren of Caril. I lived with Tom Clair when his dad Fred married Caril. He was very suspicious of her at first. But after spending a lot of time with them he just would say he's happy his dad found someone that makes him happy. I never met her but from everything I've heard she's nothing but a genuine sweet person.

The main reason people thought she was guilty, was because she didht break down crying like a young girl suppose to. She put up a tough, cold front, and at the time she looked older, talked older and people thought she was guilty based on her appearance and personality. People didn’t take in mind she was 14 in shock, possibly suffering from ptsd. She was treating badly by the courts, and it made her act cold, no one was around to truly hear her or help her, that wouldn’t happened now. I don’t know why people thought she was a criminal mastermind at 14. When it was made up in his mind to be a killer before Caril. Everyone grieves differently. I’m not tough but in front of the public I act like it. Caril never been involved in crime before him nor after. She wasn’t a juvenile delinquent. Even in prison, she had such a good record, she was allowed furloughs into town because they knew she’d come back. So how could she come a evil criminal then become good???

And she could not have been involved in the murder of her family he claimed that she was in her bedroom with the television up real loud so she couldn't hear anything going on But She Had Witnesses that place her at school that day including the one who signed her in that morning and the kid or kids who walked her home that afternoon so it was documentated that she was in school when her mom and stepdad and baby sister were murdered then he lied to her and tells her that they are being held somewhere by friends of his and if she did what he told her her family would be ok but if she defied him or tried to call for help he would send a message to the friends and her family would be killed so she stayed in her own house locked up with him and why she turned away people who came to check on the family he was standing behind the door with a rifle as she told her grandma and older sister that everyone was sick and not to come in

@@Mouse01011 I think a 13 year old going through psychological shock would probably say a lot of things that seem disconnected. That's one of the textbook symptoms of psychological shock. We know this happens, it's indisputable. There are countless documented instances of this happening. And peer reviewed studies. You can't discount that. And without there being any physical evidence she committed any of the murders, you can't say she did it. It's possible she did but I highly doubt it.

@@poisonduckee Reading her testimony. The testimony of witnesses, and no, nothing Starkweather said influenced me. I was 16 and believed she was railroaded until I had the opportunity to talk with some of the officers on the scenes. Looking at the pictures and the details they pointed out, I slowly became convinced that she wasn't a victim. The real victims of these events are getting forgotten in this newest chapter of this story. No one speaks for the dead.

She could have left the house with Mrs. ward and the maid and walked right next door and call the police. Did you know that Starkweather and fugate both refused to talk about the mutilation of carol king’s body. Did you know the autopsy of king’s body, the coroner believed their was 2 different knives used. One knife used to mutilate her top private parts and another used to mutilate the bottom private parts. That means Starkweather and fugate both did it. In many experts opinion. Including mine. Did you know in her testimony fugate addmited she was holding the 410 shot gun to the back of Robert jensons head. And she admitted to taking money out of Robert Jensons billfold. A whooping 4 dollars. That she later used to buy Pepsi and chewing gum. Believe me I read 3 non bias books on this case. Everything I just mentioned is known facts and it was all left out of this one sided affair.

All appropriate. Except one. Did the director actually ever see true romance??? It has NO connection. Kalifornia, yes. NBK, OF Course. And Badlands, etc. But True Romance??? Is it just because QT wrote it too??? Maybe it’s because I love that movie so much. And it has such an innocence at its heart. For all the badness and violence it’s not who those two characters are.
