The fact that women and poc given equal screen time i would say it is better now then back then
as well as the fanbase, crazy seeing just how diverse the fanbase is for wwe when they show shots of the fans at live events, yeah definitely waaay popular now.
True, but they still have a long way to go. Bianca, Iyo, Bayley & Rhea should all be wrestling for the men's titles. We'll never see it happen and we all know why.
@@atticus8659why? Sorry new fan here :)
@@maudebrunelle872 Because the sponsors and the majority of fans have this misconception that women wrestling men somehow promotes domestic violence.
@@atticus8659 thank you for your answer! Since we live in a world full of dumb people I get it, but it is unfortunate!
Before the wrist fracture it was reported that giulia was gonna debut in July at nxt heatwave. Wrestling for a title which is most likely the nxt women's title since I seriously doubt they want whoever wins the women's north American title to lose it a month later. Her rumored heatwave debut & her match with sareee for marigold are days apart so if she's not cleared to wrestle at heatwave than her match with sareee will most likely be postponed.
Steve and Larson are great, but they are so much funnier after eating an edible.
That nostalgia is clouding people's brains. The current era may not be as strong or better than the attitude era in terms of star power, but it most certainly has eclipsed the attitude era in almost every other way. 💯
Only a complete moron would state this. And no I didn’t as we just looked at it.
Tell that to your 1.5 ratings. It's worse than it was from 93 to 95
WrestleMania 17 did 1.2 million buy rate. I don't know how to convert the numbers but wm40 had 2.7-2.9 million unique accounts viewing across 2 nights.
I may be wring but I believe that's 40 did about 300,000 more each night than 17
@@daleleathers6202 yeah but who knows who watched live or taped. With streaming it's not apples to apples vs the ppv format. I appreciate the attempt though. I doubt streaming is reliable for people who replayed it or anything like that. In my case I usually watch with a friend who comes over and we binge it from noon to the start of night two.
One thing that makes the Attitude Era better than Now is that the crowd’s energy was constantly 3 times better than what it is now. Backlash was a Mid-AF show, but the crowd made it a 5 Star show. That whole thing can be said for the Attitude Era.
Attitude era stars were different gravy. Austin, Rock, HHH, Taker, Mankind, Kane, etc
I don't watch NXT but never stop these reviews please because I can't get enough of Steve reading Gallus' promos.
Superbowl winners celebrate with WWE Title now, easy way of telling they are more popular now
Nxt is always a blast. Pumped for Fallons win
Lola can dance if she wants to, she can leave Shayna behind.
Pfffttttt 😅😅😅😅😅
What?
@@Psycho-Crusher693 ♫ It's a safety dance, It's a safety dance ♫ ;)
For me it’s
The ruthless aggression
“Current” era
Attitude
Anecdotally speaking for whatever it’s worth, I see way more people in public wearing wrestling shirts. I have random coworkers talking to each other about Wrestlemania. I meet random people at bars and hear them talking about wrestling. Compare that to 10 or even 5 years ago and it’s night and day. In the mid 2010’s it was a niche a guilty pleasure, nowadays to me at least it’s about as common as being a big comic book nerd.
I haven't seen a wrestling shirt in a long time. Are you overseas or something?
@@danday9697 nah bro Ohio but I see bloodline shirts just in the mall and stuff. No less common than band tees
@@peterkefalos7430 band tees are really that common today either lol. Except by rappers oddly enough
Was the “dog shit stuff” in the Attitude Era bad enough to the point were it overshadowed the highs of the Attitude Era? Not even by a long shot. Attitude Era is still the better era. Fact
There's really not a good way of telling which is more popular 100%. But i will say that during the attitude era. You had a whole other company putting up crazy numbers as well.
Excellent point. Proof there’s room for two strong companies back then, but could that happen today?
@@SteveAndLarson hopefully, but I think we can all agree that aew isn't in the same stratosphere as wcw was
LET'S GO LEX OFFENDERS
(CIA agent this comment is a joke)
axiom and nathan remind me of brian kendrick and paul london in the ring
That's a great comparison 😮😮😮
"Expire his contract...his life contract" lmao
This era better then the shittitude era that era was overrated
We done wit the 90s uncs 🗣️🗣️🗣️
I think that it comes down to sustainability, what they are doing now can keep better then it did then.
They need 2 turn Raquel Rodriguez in2 a Monster Heel!!
Stone Cold was in the attitude era, therefore that era will always win
The Shield was the best show.
Love this podcast
No lol
I'll say this about the popularity of WWE. The mere fact that we live in a time where we are so oversaturated with content and yet WWE manages to be everywhere (tv, tiktok, shirts, news) I think it's proof that it is insanely popular.
Now imagine a time when two companies were highly popular
In some respects yes but overall popularity its very hard to top Steve Austin and The Rock and DX I would wear their shirts out in public and alot people recognize it cant say the same for any of the current roster I know i wore some to work and to the gym sadly no pop
Lex offenders got me dead 😂😂😂💀
Yes it's better now than the attitude era. In your dreams.
Ok grandpa let’s get you back to bed
@@peterkefalos7430old timer forgot his meds
I think nostalgia plays a bit into love for the Attitude Era and people often forget a lot of the bad. This era from both a in ring and storyline wise is better overall than the Attitude Era. But the Attitude Era from a popularity standpoint is hard to top in the modern era.
@@lawrencemowersiii7114 I’m not even arguing one way or the other on this but to bring up ratings data from 30 years ago is wildly disingenuous. How many UA-cam, Hulu, and Tik Tok views did WWF do in 1998?
@@SteveAndLarson🎉🎉🎉🎉
When ratings come anywhere close to Attitude ere, come talk to me. Making more money doesn’t mean more popular. Sponsorship is different now. That’s where the money comes from now.
Well if you're gonna go that route than t.v. ratinngs dont mean much. Most people dont watch t.v. like that anymore due to the amount of streaming services and platforms. Back then more ratings equaled = more money, so if they are making more money now with more merchandise sold and wwe becoming more popular and more cultural in the world i would say wwe now already passed the attitude era, but dont confused i still prefer the attitude era ( entertainment wise)
When you realize people don't consume things the same way in 2024 than in 2000, come talk to me. Who watches every TV show live ? Look at what is a platinum artist today, a box office record, and compare (adjusted for inflation), you'll be surprised. Attention is more split, people can be a wrestling fan without watchin live because they have the choice.
Reality is theres probably more wrestling fans today than in the attitude era, if not then explain to me all the sold out shows outside of the US ? sold out house shows in the US ?
Yall hidin behind tv ratings to avoid the fact you're just old and nostalgic 😂
@terencecaron2922 rather be old and nostalgic than some whiny entitled bih from this Era like yourself. If you're bringing back attitude era wrestlers around to pop ratings then yes it's better.. goofy
@@eyegotthefifesheepseems like the pot calling the kettle black right here
Short answer to the question in the title, "NO!"! Perhaps more money being made, however it is nowhere near as popular! There is no real debate!
Nope it's not, not even my son who plays WWE games could tell me anyone besides the rock or John Cena or the undertaker.
What a strange metric to go by
People during the attitude era similarly couldn't tell you names aside from Austin, The Rock and a few others
He must be terrible at the game
