පුරාණ පොතපතෙහි ජනප්‍රවාදවල සඳහන් වන්නේ ත්‍රිපිටක ග්‍රන්ථාරූඨය සිදු වුණේ මාතුලා දනව්වේ අළු ලෙනේ බවයි. වර්තමානයේදී ලොකු කුඩා සියලු දෙනාම ත්‍රිපිටකය ග්‍රන්ථාරූඨ වූ ස්ථානය ලෙස සලකණු ලබන්නේ මාතලේ අලුවිහාරයය.
නමුත් ත්‍රිපිටකය මාතලේදී ග්‍රන්ථාරූඨ වූ බවට සාදක නොමැති බව මහාචාර්ය වරුන් පවා සදහන් කර ඇත.
සැබැවින්ම මාතුලා දනව්ව වන්නෙ කෑගල්ල දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ අත්තනගොඩ අලුලෙන බව සාධක සහිතව ඔප්පු වී ඇත.
