Look at what happened in Texas few days ago, i am curious how the plumbing system is designed in single family homes in Russia to have running water in sub zero degrees, especially in permafrost areas.
@@hank4920 I lived in upstate NY near the Canadian border for 7 years. It was often 20 below zero every night for days or weeks at a time; once it was 35 below. At that temperature cars won't start b/c the motor oil is thick as molasses....now I recall that people put engine block heaters on their cars and plugged them in at night to keep the engines warm enough to start in the morning. Our car was always in a garage so we could start it up OK but without a garage the heaters were a necessity. Houses up there are insulated to withstand extremely low temperatures. Double and triple paned windows, very high rating insulation, etc. Sometimes at night when the temps dipped really low, the house would contract and make a noise like a gun shot. Really LOUD. That happened in several houses I lived in, in winter climates. It scared me the first time I heard it until it was explained to me that this is caused by the house contracting and that it was normal in extreme cold, like below zero. In Texas houses are not insulated to withstand low temperatures like that. So no matter how high you turn the heat, even if the power is still on, the house will leak that heat like a sieve and you will be constantly cold inside, and yes, the pipes can freeze and burst. Ours never did up north. A few nights we did let the sink faucet drip but probably wouldn't have had to. My brother currently has two houses, getting one ready to sell in Little Rock, Arkansas. It got 20" of snow, and the temp dipped below zero; VERY unusual for Little Rock. And one in Missouri, 12 inches of snow, 14 below zero. Both houses are insulated for winter and so neither one had frozen pipes and they didn't lose power either (in the north power companies are ready for winter and you rarely lose power unless there is a severe ice storm or blizzard that knocks down power lines.) I also noticed on news reports that Texans waiting in line for filled propane tanks did not have winter clothing. There were fleece jackets layered over sweatshirt hoodies, several pairs of pajama pants, or just jeans, crocs or athletic shoes on their feet. That is NOT the way to dress for cold weather -- you will be constantly cold. They just don't expect that cold weather so they don't even HAVE parkas, woolen caps or gloves or mittens, or winter boots that are INSULATED. In Florida, we DO have those because we know we may be called north in case of family illness or death up north and we might need that cold weather gear at a moment's notice. We are always ready. Northern NY state is equivalent in weather to St. Petersburg or Moscow, but Siberia is even colder -- that is a very inhospitable climate. I watched a film recently about how a family in Siberia sends their kids to school. The school bus had a 10 mile drive to school. Sometimes the bus broke down in the cold and the driver had to fix it within a half hour or the kids would start getting frostbite even though they wore multiple layers of parkas, gloves, scarves, hats, etc. If the bus did not come to pick them up they had to head home within 15 minutes or they would be in trouble from frostbite. The older kids were never to allow the smallest to fall behind. That is rough to live like that. I don't think the family had a car. A few people rode reindeer, if you can believe that. Crazy.
@@virginiasoskin9082 i saw houses in Siberia's villages having toilet far away in the backyard, imagine have to go there on a freezing winter night. Thank's for your detailed information.
Very interesting trip. Why didn’t you provide footage chronicling your trip? That would have been awesome. I’m impressed with your home. It’s so different than my image of Russian homes.
She moved to London and I moved to Russia. (I'm from the US. ) I'm an online English teacher in Saint Petersburg. I'm not even Slavic, I'm Norse-Gaelic. But Russia chose me and it's where I'm happy. She looks happy too. I greatly enjoyed this video. Subscribed.
In Russia I met representatives of British boarding schools trying to recruit children from wealthy families. After finishing those schools, they enter UK universities. I think this was Katya's route to UK many years ago.
@@maria.5974 Well it's not always easy to make money in Russia outside of larger cities. If you aren't a frugal person like me and having a lot of money is important to you, it may be difficult to live in some parts of Russia. I am a very frugal person. I pay my bills, I keep food on my table, I love my small home in Russia. I am comfortable and will be happy becoming a citizen here. But I also believe that all people should go where they are truly, truly happy. If a Russian believes they need to live in the UK, then they need to live in the UK. I just knew I needed to be in Europe. America is not for me. For some people, sure. But not for me. And of course, I met my best friend and wife in Russia so ... that helped. Obviously. :) And Russia became my decision. Originally I thought Scotland or Sweden, where my blood is from. But Russia chose me and I am very glad it did. Not everything is perfect here. But no where is perfect. I've been to many places and lived in many places and no other place (for me) is better than here.
I love long rides personally! My girlfriend is Russian and we go every year but still she has not let me drive/ride in Russia! Says im not built for it and that Russian roads are too messed up haha.

Really not sustainable to do a trip alone in a car in these times .I think, it is less egoistic to use a train, but this is our freedom to pollute the nature.... Didn´t you learn something in Britain about the issue? "Extinction rebellion" was founded over there...
@@ericguentherhofmann6109 well,I learnt the British people were so ignorant about the outside world(especially Russia 🇷🇺).Many have subscribe to my channel inorder to increase their knowledge about mainstream Russian life.
You can now get around quarantine regulations having some documents proving either your Russian origin or / and that you are on important business trip. Unfortunately no international trains are running and complying with all quarantine regulations is a nightmare. So car is now the only choice. You can fly though, but than you have to live with all quarantine surprises locally. Easier to take your own car. Done it quite a few times and many times alone.
thumbs up for her safe journey..I love hearing how she's sharing life's experience and so being so optimistic in life. thanks for this wonderful content of yours Slava.
correct, this type of house will be in an elite, private complex and will cost probably in the realm of 1mil or more. This is by far not the norm for most Russians but the top echelon. That said, no knock on the family etc, just noting that they have done well for themselves :)

@@tataharper9880 Sorry but it is true, The decision was made to lockdown again this week (The third lockdown in the UK) and Michael Gove said it would be at least 6 weeks before they would reconsider taking down the lockdown. As you may well be aware we now have a more contagious strain of CoronaVirus in the UK and it is spreading like wildfire. I was looking at the waitresses and watching MTV and I was thinking I could have been back in Birmingham, except that Birmingham doesn't have a Hard Rock Cafe. The people there look so 'British' which surprised me.
Quite a drive! Very comparable to the distance between Los Angeles and Boston. I can imagine a lot of stiffness after hours of driving each day, in order to make the trip, but you can tell by her smile it was more than worth it to go home and visit with her family. :) Her mother is such a warm and talented woman!
Thank you for this beautiful portrait of life in Russia and Britain. I'm American, but lived in Central Europe 9 years. Like your life in London, I had good friends from all over: Hungary, Austria, Croatia, US, Spain, Sweden, Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Russia, and so on. I learned that I love people from every culture and continent. The only obstacles standing in the way of world peace and equal opportunity for all...are the billionaires and their government puppets.
I think everyone has their own lifestyle....last time I went to the pub 3 times a week was when I was a teenager 50 years ago....I found other interesting things to do once I passed 20

Great video Slava. The personal touch you bring is so unique. Wow...Katya is a natural in front of the camera, just like you. Her voice is like a voice over artist and her English is excellent. Your whole family seems pretty awesome Slava. Before coming to the United Kingdom: Great Britain is the land of James Bond, Princess Diana, Oxford U. Afterwards: louts, yobs, hooligans, beer, football, smoking, loud music.
For my fellow Americans: The distance this lady drove is like going from Seattle WA to Key West FL, then turning around and driving to Atlanta GA...while driving on different sides of the road with a steering wheel that is on the opposite side of the vehicle. Crazy stuff, but very impressive.
Actually, the distance is like driving from Seattle to Jacksonville, FL alone. The 4700 is kilometers, not miles. "Just" 2900 miles, still an impressive drive.
Slava, just stopped watching, checked my bird feeder and has to refill as well. Bird already know that place and hard for them to find food with snow and minus degrees. Btw, you must be a bit of crazy driving such a long distance, but I like it 😀What a nice real estate. Very different from those you get seen by channel Vasya in the hay. Yes, you will never know what will happen. Therefore try to realize your dreams soon.
I've been plenty of times to Russia and have done some some extensive traveling there, and I felt safer and more free (!) than in the Covid Dictatorships that are developing all over Europe.
@@emkozilkic4775 Plenty of RHD (right hand drive) cars in Russia it's nothing unusual. Just to east of the Ural Mountains: lots of imported cars from Japan, but as second hand cars they also get sold to Moscow/Sankt Petersburg region.
The driving experience must have been great, and I was enthralled to hear that she changed her summer tyres for winter ones in Pskov! I've done the same too on a few occasions and maybe it was at the same place just off the main road towards the border. I bought my first winter set there, they changed my summer ones, cleaned them, wrapped in plastic with my name on and I left in storage to collect again. I have driven regularly from the south of Spain, via different routes through France, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Switzerland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway to Murmansk in Arctic Russia where I live and work (between 6-6500kms). I always plan a journey to take in new experiences and places, and once I cross into Russia I feel 'at home' even though I'm from Wales originally . Forget the misconceptions in the media, in general Russians are some of the most kind, helpful, friendly, welcoming people on the planet! 🤗. I've done the trip in different seasons and weather conditions, and in 3 cars; a VW Passatt, a Hyundai Solaris, and a new Jeep Compass (the comfiest). The border police and migration service have always been professional and friendly too, none of the stereotypical rude and corrupt ones that are portrayed. If you get a chance to drive to and through Russia do it, it will be unforgettable!

Katya now has a British/Russian accent. Very pleasant to hear her describe her voyage home.
I was going to comment the same thing. She has an interesting accent.
This video is informative and interesting. In this video they say something to me and we should have known !

Really not sustainable to do a trip alone in a car in these times .I think, it is less egoistic to use a train, but this is our freedom to pollute the nature.... Didn´t you learn something in Britain about the issue? "Extinction rebellion" was founded over there...
