Look at what happened in Texas few days ago, i am curious how the plumbing system is designed in single family homes in Russia to have running water in sub zero degrees, especially in permafrost areas.
@@hank4920 I lived in upstate NY near the Canadian border for 7 years. It was often 20 below zero every night for days or weeks at a time; once it was 35 below. At that temperature cars won't start b/c the motor oil is thick as molasses....now I recall that people put engine block heaters on their cars and plugged them in at night to keep the engines warm enough to start in the morning. Our car was always in a garage so we could start it up OK but without a garage the heaters were a necessity. Houses up there are insulated to withstand extremely low temperatures. Double and triple paned windows, very high rating insulation, etc. Sometimes at night when the temps dipped really low, the house would contract and make a noise like a gun shot. Really LOUD. That happened in several houses I lived in, in winter climates. It scared me the first time I heard it until it was explained to me that this is caused by the house contracting and that it was normal in extreme cold, like below zero. In Texas houses are not insulated to withstand low temperatures like that. So no matter how high you turn the heat, even if the power is still on, the house will leak that heat like a sieve and you will be constantly cold inside, and yes, the pipes can freeze and burst. Ours never did up north. A few nights we did let the sink faucet drip but probably wouldn't have had to. My brother currently has two houses, getting one ready to sell in Little Rock, Arkansas. It got 20" of snow, and the temp dipped below zero; VERY unusual for Little Rock. And one in Missouri, 12 inches of snow, 14 below zero. Both houses are insulated for winter and so neither one had frozen pipes and they didn't lose power either (in the north power companies are ready for winter and you rarely lose power unless there is a severe ice storm or blizzard that knocks down power lines.) I also noticed on news reports that Texans waiting in line for filled propane tanks did not have winter clothing. There were fleece jackets layered over sweatshirt hoodies, several pairs of pajama pants, or just jeans, crocs or athletic shoes on their feet. That is NOT the way to dress for cold weather -- you will be constantly cold. They just don't expect that cold weather so they don't even HAVE parkas, woolen caps or gloves or mittens, or winter boots that are INSULATED. In Florida, we DO have those because we know we may be called north in case of family illness or death up north and we might need that cold weather gear at a moment's notice. We are always ready. Northern NY state is equivalent in weather to St. Petersburg or Moscow, but Siberia is even colder -- that is a very inhospitable climate. I watched a film recently about how a family in Siberia sends their kids to school. The school bus had a 10 mile drive to school. Sometimes the bus broke down in the cold and the driver had to fix it within a half hour or the kids would start getting frostbite even though they wore multiple layers of parkas, gloves, scarves, hats, etc. If the bus did not come to pick them up they had to head home within 15 minutes or they would be in trouble from frostbite. The older kids were never to allow the smallest to fall behind. That is rough to live like that. I don't think the family had a car. A few people rode reindeer, if you can believe that. Crazy.
@@virginiasoskin9082 i saw houses in Siberia's villages having toilet far away in the backyard, imagine have to go there on a freezing winter night. Thank's for your detailed information.
Thank you for this beautiful portrait of life in Russia and Britain. I'm American, but lived in Central Europe 9 years. Like your life in London, I had good friends from all over: Hungary, Austria, Croatia, US, Spain, Sweden, Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Russia, and so on. Really not sustainable to do a trip alone in a car in these times .I think, it is less egoistic to use a train, but this is our freedom to pollute the nature.... Didn´t you learn something in Britain about the issue? "Extinction rebellion" was founded over there...
@@ericguentherhofmann6109 well,I learnt the British people were so ignorant about the outside world(especially Russia 🇷🇺).Many have subscribe to my channel inorder to increase their knowledge about mainstream Russian life.
You can now get around quarantine regulations having some documents proving either your Russian origin or / and that you are on important business trip. Unfortunately no international trains are running and complying with all quarantine regulations is a nightmare. So car is now the only choice. You can fly though, but than you have to live with all quarantine surprises locally. Easier to take your own car. Done it quite a few times and many times alone.

Delighted to hear about the drive! I love driving, too, back and forth across USA and from Canada to Guatemala. She looks a lot like her mom. Is she an only child? I also love that she sees life as an adventure rather than a plan--and for sure, planning seems pretty futile with all the changes happening. You young folks will sail on through it all and make a better world regardless.
Very interesting trip. Why didn’t you provide footage chronicling your trip? That would have been awesome. I’m impressed with your home. It’s so different than my image of Russian homes.
For my fellow Americans: The distance this lady drove is like going from Seattle WA to Key West FL, then turning around and driving to Atlanta GA...while driving on different sides of the road with a steering wheel that is on the opposite side of the vehicle. Crazy stuff, but very impressive.
Actually, the distance is like driving from Seattle to Jacksonville, FL alone. The 4700 is kilometers, not miles. "Just" 2900 miles, still an impressive drive.
Not sure why this popped up on my feed but I really enjoyed it. Katya is a vibrant, beautiful person. I wish her well. Might even get a real russian teddy bear lol
OMG ur mom is so sweet like here in the USA we in the country always feed the crows and songbirds food scraps during the winter. Anyway, I think you should follow her around during her 8 weeks and document her travels as she returns to see old friends, visits places in Russia she hasn't been to before etc. You could have a short UA-cam 'My Cousin Katya' season. I then would love to see her travel back to England as she drove through all those countries. That would be amazing. Thanks for this channel.
Absolutely brilliant, that’s some drive in an Audi TT diesel. Fair play to the girl, incredible in that weather. You would think Moscow were far enough.
Hope she got home safe and well in the new year. Happy new year from Wolverhampton UK 👍🏼🎉
Loved watching this, How a person from another country views the one I live in, Even tho I am from the north and not keen on the south, especially London. Loved the bears her mom made I thought the work and detail she put into them was amazing, Very interesting all of it to the price of diesel to the life style of her thoughts on both countries, Thanks for sharing. What a lovely video and very informative and entertaining. Your moms bears look amazing.
All the best have fun be safe
What a very enjoyable video. Everything about it. I see your mother still has that “kid” inside of her. Even though we get old, we never have to grow up! Hope you had a safe trip back to the UK.
Fantastic video! Truly envied her road trip. I love road trips - the journey is as important as the destination. Also, those teddy bears were amazing. Pride and respect all around.
Wow, Yekaterinbourg! Famous city! Your house is HUGE!
USHUAIA ARGENTINA
The house would be upmarket almost everywhere, but especially so in Russia. They are not an average family.
I dont know why this was suggested for me but Im glad it did. Regards from the Philippines. Surely how she described Russians made me feel home.
You are the one who makes me love russian cities, town..and I like hearing russian, it's sounds both beautiful&badass
I learned that I love people from every culture and continent. The only obstacles standing in the way of world peace and equal opportunity for all...are the billionaires and their government puppets.
Beautiful, i love the winter.

Nice car, nice kitchen with flat screen tv, fresh cow milk, etc ...nice to see a financially fine family.
What an amazing trip, wow! And Екатеринбург looks so beautiful in the winter ❤️
wow she's beautiful also I'm impressed that she drives so far. I hate driving for anything over 30mins. lol
I love long rides personally! My girlfriend is Russian and we go every year but still she has not let me drive/ride in Russia! Says im not built for it and that Russian roads are too messed up haha.
Just received my beautiful bear today. Its wonderful and thankyou !

Wow,I have taken a trains from Moscow to London( on my page ) but never done it by car. Thanks for this informative video.Greetings to the community from Moscow 👋🇷🇺.
@ You are right, but it was not me...that´s maybe the reason I´m more concerned about the future.
Wow! That was a loooong drive, almost unbelievable! I can totally understand Katya's dad when he refused to believe that she had made it. Thanks for sharing this extraordinary story.
May Katya enjoy her quality time with family and friends!
What, calling her a liar instead of giving her the benefit of doubt and thinking she is an incapable ninny?!
What a beautiful girl, and lovely family. I would like to visit RU one day
Just watching this on the TV and I must admit I'm very impressed. This trip I would love to do but I'm sorry to say it would be by train. Im living in Canada but I was born in the UK and I have never returned not even for a holiday . I admire you very much . The Bears I must admit were amazing. You also looks very much like your mother . Very educational video.
Those teddy bears are awesome! They look like they are ready to start talking.
Its very interesting to hear both of you talking about live experience between two countries, very natural conversations. And Katya is one of the smart and independent girl. Good job Slava.
I think everyone has their own lifestyle....last time I went to the pub 3 times a week was when I was a teenager 50 years ago....I found other interesting things to do once I passed 20
Loved this video, especially your mum and her bears!!!
Delighted to hear about the drive! I love driving, too, back and forth across USA and from Canada to Guatemala. She looks a lot like her mom. Is she an only child? I also love that she
sees life as an adventure rather than a plan--and for sure, planning seems pretty futile with all the changes happening. You young folks will sail on through it all and make a better world regardless.
Так забавно, два русских, говорят на английском... она с британским акцентом, он- с американским! Ребята, вы- супер!🤩
Да, забавно) Если бы не видео, мы болтали бы на русском , конечно))
The mum has such a peaceful voice, i could listen to her all day.
God bless her! This is SO awesome I would DEFINITELY DO THIS!!
she is so optimistic about her future. It was good to know from her anyway
Yea, few more years and its over... sadly. She become 40 and she wont be so attractive for new eployers. Life is cruel
So nice video, i was smiling here in Sweden a lot! :)
Wow, she has a beautiful smile! No wonder she's so popular in the UK.
Who is she.?
Am sure she is popular

You are the best, ty for you channel
Really good vid. Thank you.
Great video! Subscribed. Watching this video makes the girls in America look so tired. Katya is a treasure! Her level of sophistication is endearing.
OMG ur mom is so sweet like here in the USA we in the country always feed the crows and songbirds food scraps during the winter. One year we burned a whole ham and a crow flew off the table similar to yours wirh the whole ham bone. It resembled a plane taking off from an aircraft carrier ship haha! Thanks for the videos, cheers!!
Like other viewers i don't know how i ended up watching this video but i am pleased i did,i was totally absorbed from start to finish,i felt as if i could have walked into their kitchen and be made welcome, obviously a wealthy family husband must have a good job, lovely people and Katiya. is what shall i say absolutely enthralling, charming i can understand that she is just great to be around, lets have more videos i could listen to her for many hours.
It's so endearing how your aunt talks about the teddy bears ☺️ you can really tell it's a labor of love for her. Please let her know her creations are beautiful. 💗

Love your aunt. She's so interesting and just so charming to watch.
also a challange because everyone drive on the wrong side since you left UK.
Exactly! Lots of challenges involved. Changing to winter tires, steering wheel on the wrong side, and enormous distance to cover.

Hello from Japan. I think her decision of back to her home town is right.
The town covered with snow looks like ones in Hokkaido very much.
Pls submit the video of her moving there if possible.
Moving to where? Russia? She's not moving to Russia.
Yes, the nature of Hokkaido is very similar to Siberia. A few years ago I loved watching Japanese fishermen ice fishing on UA-cam (smelt fishing mostly). It looks exactly like here in Russia.
@@RipperRzNAt mountain area near Tokyo, we can enjoy smelt fishing in winter time at such as Yamanakako Lake or Harunako Lake where are about 150km away from Tokyo.
We eat it fried or tempura. Really tasty !
If Russian and Japan government can build some bridges from Sakhalin , we can drive from Tokyo to London )
My family and many of the inhabitants of my state (North Dakota) came from Russia/Ukraine. With the exception of the language, you couldn't tell the difference between the people. Warm/friendly, same mannerisms, appearance. We are much closer to Russia than England or France in this area.
