If you '22+ refresh model guys stumble upon this, don't do it this way, especially if you don't want to destroy the letters. On 22+ refresh, the letters are part of a subassembly. Remove the plastic cover under the hood and then use about 1' of extension and a T20 to remove 5 torx head screws from the back and the block detaches, then you can release the clips from the back side of that block.
What is a refresh model ?

@@klutch14u yeah it is way easier to do it this way... and btw homie aint nobody saving those emblems...
I took me maybe 20 minutes to remove the factory GMC letters, but I was able to use a small screwdriver and removed each entire letter from the backside of the grill and didn't damage the factory ones at all.
Without taking off the grill! You are the king 👑. Good job! Bonus for sure

Just installed this five minutes ago... It took about an hour.
The most difficult part was "breaking" the grill free by pulling up on the clips (after removing 10mm fasteners). To hold the grill out away from the frame II used large Irwin clams set up in a reverse (spreading) layout. This gives about 3"-4" of space before the upper bumper assembly starts to disconnect. Pay attention!
The 'GMC' emblem came off pretty easily using a plastic scraper (came with my wife's pizza stone)as a wedge, and a small stubby flathead screw driver to disconnect the clips.
This was very easy to install/connect with the video tutorial.
Note: the lighting is not visible in daylight. It must be dusk/dark for you to actually see it.

Brutal watching you destroy the existing GMC letters, started watching videos on this specifically so I could keep mine.
I just used a thin blade saw and was able to cut the clips. Easy peazy.

When our mechanic went to get his ase certification, this was years ago but anyway he said the instructor referred to gmc as gotta mechanic coming. Being a gm man I didn’t find it very funny but just thought I would share it. Now that I’m in my early 50’s I have figured out that regardless of the brand, it boils down to maintenance on a regular schedule including transmission and especially air filters oil and quality good oil of the proper weight and not driving it like your on a race track. That works on Ford and GM anyway.
I have had a Ford, Lincoln, Chevy, Dodge and GM trucks and I agree.
@@Donslife I’ve never had a Dodge but their good looking trucks. I’m scared to buy anything now with the world in such a mess. I heard gas will be 8 bucks a gallon in August. Who knows, I’ll just keep trusting God.
We beat the crap out of our trucks at my job and I can honestly say the GMs hold up the best.

Had this on my Denali. It kind of got lost in the grille visually as there is no chrome trim to make it pop in daylight. Just looked like a black hole in the center of my grill. So I swapped it out for the regular black emblems with chrome trim. But one thing I did do was paint match my grille surround. I did love the look at night with the emblem but in the day I hated it. Yours looks great with your color scheme. It was a pain to remove the emblem but I did it
I am going to try the white vinyl over the black letters. I think it will help it in the daylight.

Is it hard to install and does it matter which side you connect the cable to a head light
It can be difficult to install if you are unfamiliar with disassembling grills and stubborn clips. You should be able to plug in behind either headlight.

Thanks - It will fit if it is the 2019-2022 body style, not the refreshed 2022/2023. There are reports of these failing from moisture penetration issues

You can turn the fog light on or off with the DRL’s only if you want. When it gets darker outside, the ambient light sensor will turn the low beams on too automatically. (All of the above in the AUTO setting)

So I ordered the gmc light up front emblem from the same place you got yours. There telling me they need to order it from GM and it will be delayed. Absolutely it is possible but you still will break portions of the old emblem. The way I chose was so much fun though!
So I just ordered this. Also have the boost auto running boards. How did you connect this emblem and the steps since they all go to the headlights ?
I like it, but gm offers this already, but it only glows the outline
This is a demonstration of the one GM offers. Personally I think backlit vs projecting the light is the way to go.

I have a 2020 gmc at4 and for some reason the new lighted emblem from gmc isn't clicking in... A couple of the tabs grabbed but the rest just pop right off!!! Any chance you know what's going on?
Sounds strange my friend. I don’t know why it isn’t grabbing unless the clips are bent out of alignment
@@Donslife Well, I was able to get it to click into place. But definitely wasn't easy like your video lol. I had to take a long flathead and go from behind to push the clips on one at a time.
They clicked into place and it seems to be locked on well. The car wash today will be the real test 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

They just found one for my 2019 Sierra Denali they said they may have to tap in the wires but they did not. It was plug and Play because my pickup was later 2019.

Hey there! Thank you for the support too! Unfortunately I don’t think there is a simple way to add the package. It would likely require a donor truck for all of the parts and an expert in all of the complicated integration that would be needed. Maybe I am wrong

I noticed they have a few options when buying Red/Black but they also have a with or without pro tailgate option , so my question is what difference would it make ? And don’t all AT4s come w/pro tailgate ?
Yes there are some options. The main reason black has the extra replacement for the tailgate is so you can have black at the front and back. If you are just upgrading to the red illuminated logo, then you’d only want one since the back is already red too. I wrapped the inner part white on mine
Could it be wired to the running lights instead? I bet it would look really nice in the evening without the headlights on.
I suppose you could splice the wires for that purpose!

I have a 2021 sierra. I am on my 2nd illuminated emblem (black illuminated emblem). Both have lasted less than 6 months and continue to somehow get water in them. Ordered and installed through dealer both times. Both times part was on back order. A bulletin was put out about these also shorting headlights out. It was a total waste of money and time for me. Anyone else having this issue?

That’s because this one if for a GMC Sierra. 2021+ Yukons might have something available

Yes, but you’d need to splice into the wires. Definitely doable though

Stock headlights my friend. I just tinted the borders to hide the chrome and reflectors

They are prone to getting moisture in them and will slowly start to dim and fail, I'm on my second set now

you could have just reached behind the grille and popped the clips off
Not with the active shutter they have in front of the radiator now. You could take half of the front end apart but that is also quite time consuming
What is the trick to getting the headlight adapter unattached? It’s incredibly difficult to remove.
Not sure which section you are specifically referencing but many of the connectors use red colored locks. These have to be slid or pried outwards so the release buttons can be depressed to pull the connectors apart
@@Donslife yes! Pull the red tab back towards the wiring, press down black piece directly below the red tab, pull. I’ve gotten it several times using the emblem wiring, but having difficulty specifically with disconnecting directly from the headlight.

Hi Don I’ve had to replace two of these luckily under warranty I think due to the frequency of car washes and water intrusion it starts with getting dim then one letter going out finally whole things goes out. Curious if you badge is still working
How long do they usually last before going out?

I bought it from the GMC dealership. The part number is in my video description. There is a red one and a black kit. The black kit is more $ since you get an extra black tailgate emblem

Yes they should. Just make sure to reference pin locations and not wire color or count. Some pins have 2 wires and/or could be different colors
