How To Tell The Difference In Parrotlet Genders

- Parrotlets make fantastic pets. They are intelligent, full of personality and adorable. They are also easy to care for.
But how do you tell the genders apart?
Parrotlets are sexually dimorphic, which means you can see the gender difference.
Males have a dark blue coloring in three places that females don't have. The first place is on the corner of the eye - they have a blue line that reminds me of Cleopatra's makeup.
They will also have a blue line on the edge of their wing and on their backs.
Parrotlets can be any color and males will still have blue coloring in these three places, females, even blue ones, won't.

Both male and female parrotlets can have blue eye streaks and blue rumps. Only males will have dark blue on the flight feathers.
But like what kind of dark blue but does female parrotlet has blue too?
Thanks for your help
I found this video very helpful. Thank you for posting it.
You're very welcome!
Today, thanks to your video, I have found my Parrotlet of 7 years is a male. I was told many years ago that the little one was a girl . I named her Tara. Thank you so much! He loves my husband and they are buddies. We all had a good laugh and I have begged forgiveness to Tara and in the future make sure to remember he is a male. LOL. The name stays because after 7 years, why change it?
Fantastic! Thank you for posting, I love it! Yeah, I have a couple parrots with the wrong gender name too...
Thank you so much for this video!
Sure thing!
good info.
Thank you!
Talking about a fast catching hand! :-)
Hi. I hope you are able to answer me. I have a baby parotlet that I got from this disgusting pet shop , I feel I saved him , I could not find any at bird rescues around me. I just got him a companion from the same gross pet shop. She was all by herself. The question is that she look bigger then him and also her eyes are not black. I’m thinking they sold me an older bird. Unfortunately no one in that shop speaks English. I wanted a companion to my bird and that was the only place I found that sold parrotlets.
Is your question will they be friends? Introduce them slowly, but they most likely will 😀
Your so beautiful and lovable just like your cuties
Hello so I’m so confused, recently, one of my parrotlits died. The parrotlit that died had a mate. The mate is blue, and is basically the color of the parrot in the video. The parrot has blue in the middle of its body, and honestly barely any blue on the side of its wing. On the other hand, the one that died has blue only on the side of its wing. I can’t tell if it’s a boy or a girl that died can anyone help?
Sorry, to be clear, I'd have to see a photo. Why do you want to know? If it's to get a new Parrotlet, you can get either gender.
💁🏿♀️ I've had my Blue Parrotlet (Choo Choo Blue) for close to 2 yrs now. And I have struggled with it's gender 😩 I think I have a boy because it looks actually like the last bird in this video. 🥰🐦
Send me s pic on FB and I'll tell you if I can see from the pic. Fb.com/parrotbliss

@ParrotBliss could you sex out 2 one is 3 years old we think he's a male we got a yellow female one as we thought but blue has come on his wing tips
UA-cam is strange I can’t reply to your comment:
yes they seem to like each other but I’m keeping them sun separate cages until they are disease tested. I think they sold me an older bird , could u tell by their eyes?
If you were supposed to get a young bird, you can compare things like the beak sizes, their sound and their size. Babies are a little thinner- just like adults tend to be more "filled out" than young kids or teenagers.
@@ParrotBliss she is bigger then him and her eyes are not black. I think he is definitely younger but I’m wondering if they sold me an old bird. Is that common in pet stores? I have them separated until I test them (is that necessary) but they chirp at each other and my petey likes her so it will work out. Just concerned about age difference. Her beak is bigger than his and stronger also. She is not tame at all. I really appreciate you always answering comments !! Ur awesome and so helpful I’m new at this
Your green girl looks like my girl!!
