Simple, honest pure TV Gold..... I met Val in 1987, at a show, rocking chair on the stage. I was 15, and he came over and said it was lovely that he had a young fan at the show. After the show I got to meet him and he hugged me and shook my hand. A memory I will always treasure. Such a gent.
Couldn’t agree more, Saturday evenings were my Grandads night at the club, then Nan & I would watch Val Doonigan while prepping veg for Sunday lunch & fruit for the pudding, usually crumble on a Sunday ...... such happy times.
I saw Val 4 times, 1 at Scarborough (with my parents), he had Paul Daniels on his bill, that was in 1976. In 1977 I saw him in Middlesbrough. I saw one of his last concerts in Redhill in the 1980’s you could tell his voice was going. Thanks Val for the enjoyment and happiness you brought
Both great seasoned entertainers, Good to see, - sad there are only 2 comments when I post this, , , Whatever people say, , , , you need to remember artists only get their own ‘prime TV slot’ when they have talent! Thanks for posting, fills me with happy memories 👍
Sad! Two of the best entertainers. I was privileged to see Val with my family in Blackpool in his hey day. Rocking chair was prominent on the stage. Unfortunately didn’t see a Des performance. He was one of my Dad’s favourites along with Morecambe and Wise! 😆
A more simple time when life was easy going and decent. Good old fashion Saturday night entertainment the whole family could relax to. Not like the madness of today.
I remember the tag to Bob Monkouse's joke, because he did it on another show. It actually went: "I mentioned to my wife that I found black underwear sexy. She hasn't washed my underpants for six months now..." Rest in peace, Des.
Now this is Saturday nite entertainment that I remember so well , these 2 were legends, great times , not like the rubbish that's on sat nite now in 2020 , I wish we could go back in time and re live them over again x RIP to you both you are missed x
The sad passing of these two great artistes left a big void in the wonderful but now forgotten music of yesteryear. They were two of the last of the great crooners who are unforgettable and sadly missed.
Theyd rather dish up crap reality tv and non stop baking programmes cheaper to make and woeful to watch. They have forgotten how to make proper entertainment too costly and time consuming 2 flys going up a wall would be more entertainment than what leads to it these days.
I think Des and Val had the same comical rivalry and musical closeness as Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin on American TV shows, except that Val and Des didn't go in for dance routines. They all made it look effortless and cosy when in fact the scope for disaster was huge - a wrong note, a fluffed line, a faulty microphone...very stressful to anybody else and precisely the reason why TV is often pre-recorded.
good old Saturday nights entertainment , none of you reality rubbish to be seen. even game shows had members of the public , not some washed out ex celeb trying to make a comeback. OHH for a time machine.
I'm a 22-year-old and I love the old entertainers. Rest in peace Des and Val.
You have great taste.❤
@@stephenguppy7882 Thanks :)
