- Carlos Gayola recalls unearthing alleged giant pearls in 2012, which he believes will bring good fortune to him after losing his resort business. Atmosphere Resorts marine biologist Daniel Geary examines Gayola's giant pearls, and declares that they are real pearls based on four indications. IEMS-Silliman University marine biologist Janet Estacion and director Hilconida Calumong believe that the supposed giant pearls are just giant clam shells.
The program brings the alleged giant pearls to experts in Manila for an in-depth observation to know whether or not they are real pearls.

Alam na ng viewers na nagkamali ang professors ng pagsuri but still you can't blame the people to criticize ng paulit-ulit knowing that Silliman is a reputable university and madami nanonood ng Rated K. Yes, they have been studying these organisms since 1984. And for the record, they examined the SHELL before rendering their comment.

They should also conducted a test on a tridacna gigas shell and compared the results to the so called 'pearl'. Then how would you explain that the BFAR lab test results and the University of Basel lab test results are exactly the same but concluded differently. Perhaps they (University of Basel) would agree on the hypothesis of the two PhD of Silliman.

jose fernando freeze Sir. The Institute of Environment and Marine Science (IEMS) is located beside the sea near Dumaguete Airport. So if you visit Dumaguete don't forget to visit IEMS. P.S. they (Marine Biologists) also dive most especially during their younger years. They have been in their proffesion for mor than 20 years

well, I guess having that university near the sea or you made so many dives when you were you're younger isn't a guarantee that you already know everything and/or qualify you to identify what's genuine from fakes about marine life. They shouldn't stopped from diving.

1. Ang tunay na pearl walang hugis ng labas ng shell. Hugis sya ng spasyo ng clam sa loob.(molded) Kaya nga ginagawa naming plato ng aso yan.
2. Hindi dumidikit sa shell ang pearl kasi nabuo ito mismo sa loob ng laman ng clam.
3. Ang pearl nabubuo sya pag merong foreign object na pumasok sa laman.Ang shape ng pearl ay base sa shape ng foreign object na pumasok dito.
3.Magkaiba ang texture ng pearl at ang pinakashell.
4. Mas matigas ang perlas kaysa sa shell (chalky daw lol,yong surface lang ng shell ang matigas).
5. FYI freshwater pearl do exist.
6. Hindi ibig sabihin pag foreigner mas maalam na. Colonial mentality hahaha!

Firstly, just by looking at it you can say its a shell. Do you guys even know what a pearl looks like ? Of course experts like them would not run test on the said “pearl” because as expert marine biologists, they spend most of their life in water which means that they have encounter lots of sea creatures and could identify them just by looking.
Secondly, if the foreign marine biologist was just basing it on superficial characteristics then he would have notice that the texture (even on camera) is rough and rigid as compared to pearls which are shiny and were emulsified inside the oyster as a defense mechanism to irritants.
Thirdly, if and only “if” the 2 marine biologist from Silliman University were wrong then I couldn’t blame them since the interview was on site. They were not given enough time to test the said “pearls” but they were just interviewed and asked for their opinion on the day they were ask.
If those 2 siliman marine biologist are wrong then they failed as marine biology sinced they don't even know the simple appraisal like that foreign marine biologist did to identify not by the eye but his knowledge on knowing if that pearl legit or not.
