I imagine you would have to drive under a certain speed (around 15 mph?) for them to work properly though, I know cars were slower back then. The pedestrian would also have to be facing a certain way I would imagine.
That was back when cars were high enough off the ground for you to get run *over* by them. It also looked like the device had to be manually operated instead of operating by coming into contact with the pedestrian. If it was automatically operated, there would be problem with it activating when people were parallel parking if they parallel park like they do in Paris (i.e. by *feel*)... :)
Shotgun Mongol Is it possible they would get stuck and then you couldn't retrieve your car without massive equipment? (OH, MAYBE I SHOULD HAVE USED ALL CAPS SO YOU COULD READ THIS.) :)
Mike Downes Exactly. It really is no different from having a balcony that is enclosed with wire fencing except it doesn't have to be strong enough to hold a group of adults.
Some families have multiple windows in their room. Imagine your baby crawls out to the wrong window in a split second you don‘t notice anything is wrong.
@@653j521 Except with the rise of cars, it would be a health-hazzard, taking in all those gasses. At least balcony's are usually glassed in or made in such a way that you'd never get the gasses in. It's a dumb idea nowadays, would have worked before cars became super-popular. (actually it's a bit safer now than during the auto-boom because fuel isn't as toxic as it was then).
The gas masks for horses, my grandfather grew up working mules, and after her joined the army he was sent to France... He had to put down 6 mules because of gas. They had gas masks for the mules, but one whiff of gas and they ran off with the cooks wagon, so... As soon as someone yelled gas, he put them down. Eventually they got a Ford to replace them chuck wagon.
JewelKnightJess It might prevent frost. There are devices for that to put just on the front windshield and people put sheets over plants to protect them from early frost.
Those body shaking belts have now just been replaced by body shaking platforms, when will we ever learn. its calories in vs calories out as this video pointed out.
thehodge168 You are missing the point. The principle was that with each shake your muscles are working to resist it and to return to their normal position. If your muscles are working, you are using a few calories, but the point was that the muscles will be toned from doing extra tensing and you will lose inches not pounds--so what if you are the same weight if you can fit into your favorite clothes? :) I saw a show where they tried a variety of devices and methods on very overweight women and they were surprised this actually did make them a few inches slimmer, but not weigh less. Nothing else they tried had any effect. So if someone were quite obese, it would be something they could try when they weren't able to handle any other exercise. For everyone else, those muscles would probably be toned to that level from normal daily activity and that wouldn't help. I would imagine shaking could be good for increasing blood circulation in those who are bed bound, just as there are moving booties that are used on people today after knee and other kinds of surgery to avoid deep vein thrombosis. I could see this shaking having therapeutic uses to avoid bed/pressure sores which can be a life threatening problem for those who aren't able to move around on their own.

i think That hidden garage still used nowadays, but that silk from milk idea was brilliant! it would save nature, but sadly humans are lazy and that is why use same resources instead of make research for their survival.
The pedestrian scooper is great. I could use that to catch as many civilians as possible before I drive off a bridge.

they work even better in Soylent Green

At high speed wouldn't it just yeet the pedestrian over the roof of the car?
This would encourage people to be less careful on the road
It looked like it may hurt a little but other than that, it did look fun

How about the paper dress of the 60's?

Caterpillar still makes big yellow vehicles that can scoop up pedestrians 😁
