I enjoyed this more than the bbc coverage....I learnt more....I wish the bbc would concentrate more on the gardens and share information like you do and less on the inane forced chat. Probably not expressing myself very well but I do get irritated by the presenters dumbing everything down.

hear hear hear. Bunny has given us more about the gardens in 15 min than a whole week of TV coverage where they just fill the air with airy fairy waffles. Do people really care that much about 'the journeys' 'the messages' etc? I have a feeling that gardeners are more interested in the builds, the planting schemes and the designs. This is how it is done to present garden shows!

You expressed my thoughts exactly! We got more insight in this short video than an entire week of BBC coverage. Dumbing down is precisely what they are doing.
they say its elegant, ecological.... symbolizes ... whatever.... but dont really teach us the basics of whats going on... what the history of something is /

My thoughts entirely - much of BBC content on almost everything, seems aimed for a target audience of 11-12 year old's - Gardeners World and Country File being prime examples of this. I have no idea why they think dumbed-down is best?

Love hearing your observations, Bunny. I have to say that I’m surprised that more designers didn’t lean more heavily into the opportunity to embrace more fall plants. Perhaps they were too far along in their vision to shift by the point it was announced that the show was moving to September. I was really hoping to see something unlike we’ve seen before won’t be able to see again.
Yes I think they had to shift plants quite quickly and so the nurseries just didn’t have enough time to produce the extra large plants needed with that limited lead in. Also we had and intensely hot and dry period just before the show which meant a lot of plants just weren’t up to snuff unfortunately.🐇

The wall was 1mm out, that’s the insult right there. If many of the judges, like yourself, have designed for Chelsea then perhaps it should be less about wielding a sextant and more about the atmosphere these fantastic gardeners create. I pick up that you’re taking the designers side so please don’t think I’m having a dig at you. Another informative and enjoyable video Bunny, thank you.

Thanks Bunny, so much better than the BBC coverage, interesting to learn about the judging, seams a bit old fashioned to me.
All judging is subjective I’ve had a gold medal when I didn’t think my garden was really gold standard and vice versa but I think some were just very wrong this year🤷♀️🐇
The trend seem to be much more softer, interwoven and woodland like. Such a pleasure to see all the interesting new and old favourites combined differently.

Hello Bunny, I’ve subscribed a while ago and really enjoy your channel, fantastic info, I’ve just seen the episode where you got some magnets for the hosepipe and wondered what your thoughts were after a year of using them.
I so wish I could visit in person. Wonderful gardens, I can't wait for the next tour.
I have been fortunate to visit several times and believe me it can be difficult to see anything because of the crowds.
Too bad the one designer had to switch out the trees. I doubt anyone actually plants a garden just for one season anyway.

I like the soft planting of the Yeo garden best. I don't see the appeal of the faux-industrial pipes but to each his own. Looking forward to seeing those balcony gardens.
Hi, I kinda agree, but in my mind there are 2 kinds of Chelsea Show gardens, those you would love to own and those which tell a story and I think the industrial garden was fascinating but I wouldn't want to own it!

I am very interested in the Chinese city garden which looks very peaceful (pods and ponds are beautiful) and I love the idea of cleaning the air however I wonder is this meant to be a public space and therefore how would the garden be maintained? Would they have enough gardeners and budget to keep this looking good? It looks like it could get overgrown very easily? In our area in the UK locals have had to take over maintaining public green spaces (in an unofficial way) as the council has reduced gardening staff and budget so much.
Maintenance of such complex planting would be problematic for a local authority I agree! It’s a show garden though and maintenance is not an issue that is thought about,but good point.🐇
@@bunnyguinness thanks for replying and for your great content. Whilst public green spaces is very much in my mind at the moment I always tend to think in terms of practicality when I look at any design scheme whatever the medium. Even interiors - I always want to know about storage! 🌿

Pickerel. I think. Thought invasive. But water edge plants need to filter out toxins for clean water.
They were mainly pickerel weed , Pontaderia cordata, and equisetum. 🐇

Fionnah Saunders Zimbabwe a freshly done presentation of this world famous show, many ideas and suggestions for all of us. Loved it’s autumn flavor , thank you for promoting native/ indigenous plants, trying to do that here too. My husband helps to make bio char and we find it highly successful.

I was so excited for Chelsea in September, but now seeing it, I'm kind of disappointed. I'm not quite sure what I don't like exactly. Maybe I'm just tired of gardening, because it's the end of the season here.🤣

I've never been to Chelsea. Are the trees really planted into the ground or are they in pots? How long does a garden stay in place?
Outside you can plant the trees into the ground, but in the pavilion all the trees sit on the ground. One year we brought in a tree large enough to accommodate a treehouse. Was pretty huge, but the farmer next door didn’t want it as it was misshapen but for a tree house it was ideal. 🐇
I have never seen a hospital with a garden so it would be great.Then again, I prefer to keep away from those places..To be 1 mm out is pathetic on the judges part.In our cities they cut down thousands of trees for faster broadband so replacing them with bits of grass and bamboo structures is a bit of a come down.
But in China in some cities they are planting on a massive scale. But I agree I think we are all doing too little too late 🐇
Chelsea gardens should be left in situ as lungs and new sites should be found every year. Green lung expansion would escalate naturally then.
They do do a series of garden festivals on that basis some years back on derelict land in cities, Liverpool was one, leaving the whole site transformed into a public park. Cost millions but gave employment, fabulous new landscapes and lifted the area. 🐇

Pipe looks terrible.
Just because someone does something that has never been done before does not mean it’s innovative, beautiful or good design. The M&G garden is a case in point, yes, it all looks a bit random and hodgepodge. The pipe work is simply hideous. Too bad Chelsea is rewarding this mess.
Please focus more on the flowers and plants, some closeups of them and more shots of the various places in the garden instead of the same shots over and over and Bunny talking. We don't need to see Bunny, we can hear what she says. We want to see the garden - all of it.
Good point. We were short of time sadly and had torrential rain on the day we filmed it for several hours so had less time to get good closeups than we would have liked unfortunately hence we had to use more footage of me.🐇
Probably the best thing to do that would be climate positive is stop Chelsea from happening...huge waste of money and resources. Not good enough to tell people to stop wasting natural resources and transport massive trees to the middle of the city just for a week for guests to quaff champagne at. When I say that usually, Chelsea designers keep on mentioning how the gardens get moved and reappropriated but surely it would make sense to not use all that carbon to make this show happen. Sure, keep it as an exhibition of new ideas and products but the actual show gardens is such a gargantuan contradiction to what the RHS aspires to do in the future it makes no sense. Just an ego stroking event for designers and a massive fundraiser for the RHS...but at what cost for the environment they so want to help?
That’s a good point but on the flip side I think Chelsea is a massive boost to the British horticultural industry and the show gardens are the part that most visitors want to see and so if they encourage more people to garden rather than going out in their cars and spending money then you could justify it on that score? 🐇
I disagree with your point on the judge's credentials. The KEY to judging is the ability to have an absolute & critical eye completely in line with the judging criteria. In addition, to have the capacity to disregard who's garden it is that they're judging or who sponsored it. The ability to CREATE the garden requires the above but is primarily a creative role. As a judge you have no requirement to be creative.
Look at sports judging. The judges are definitely sometimes high level athletes, other times they're students of the sport having never taken part. It doesn't lessen their ability to judge correctly.
I agree to some extent but one sponsor told me they would not have a female designer as the judges gave poorer medals to women (they are often very few female judges) - they can be very biased. Also to understand and evaluate the design, I think being qualified as a designer , is important. Finally I have been judged by a judge that I beat in a limited competition to design the show garden, and that certainly was wrong. He should have stepped back from judging me. 🐇
