One of the only things I've reviewed that I thought was a book, but turned out not to be!

I get it. It's like anything, it takes work and practice. If you keep at it, I know you'll find the right rhythm. 👍

Maybe Jermay has not made a career as a card magician, but naming itself as "amateur" is of course and irony. Everyone who had the opportunity to see Luke with a deck in their hands know that he is a truly pro.

    • @EruditeMagic
      @EruditeMagic  Рік тому +2

I think he means it in the true definitive sense of the word: he doesn't get paid to do card tricks. 🤷

I was surprised that he calls himself an amateur card magician, maybe should be more like a technician. I am glad you are reviewing his latest booklet and download. Agree that a book would have been better.

I think it's only on the technicality that he performa mentalism for a living, but loves learning, performing, and sharing card tricks in his free time

Oops, missed the Premier, had to step out. Watching it in 5. To answer your question from the chat, my understanding the book is supposedly just history and credits for the tricks?

The item's pricing seems alittle high for what you are getting. But I've already got plenty of card tricks waiting in books, in downloads, in dvds and in the storage bins. This one is not for me. Thanks for the post. You are the Man :)

I came into contact with this " release" tonight and feel wtf ? The published coaster, bookmark or whatever you call the miniature book plus the overly high price for a string of card tricks on download is very underwhelming to say the least. Very disappointing.

Well this is quite interesting. I had heard about this but not seen the full ad copy. I'll get it as I love Luke Jermay and have other videos by him and enjoy his teaching style, but I will say I really was hoping it was more of a full book similar to 3510, with the downloads as a bonus. Still, at least for fans of his work, the collection of effects does sound like a fair value for the price, and I am sure that it is something which I shall enjoy. Thank you for the great review!

Great episode! It’s always fun and entertaining even if I am totally disappointed in the product (not really a book). I have so many downloads and dvds that I’ll never watch. I already have a lot of books that a friend says I’ll never read (reference to your last episode). I have bought almost every book you have reviewed. Thank you for saving me from buying this one. I almost pulled the trigger on this book.
There is only one new book that is available that has me on the fence. La Campanella. It looks so elegant and beautiful. The video Vanishing Inc does make it sound beautiful and elegant, but I’ve been fooled by these in the past.
I pre-ordered the 3rd volume of Ed Marlo from Magic Inc. I hope it’s more than just the 3 booklets reprinted. A buddy of mine originally from Chicago that spent years with Ed Marlo at the Roundtable has a prerelease copy and won’t tell me about it except that it looks good. If it looks good to him, I assume it’s good.
Thank you for these great shows! I look so forward to them each week.

I thought the material was generally strong and very well thought out, but I too would have preferred a book of this material... because Jermay (in the performances, at least) wasn’t the best- and that’s part of the difficult nature of recording video instructionals on the same day: some performances are better than others, and the audience is stuck with what they get. Reading books, you can imagine the author’s best performance- or your own :)

Love Luke Jermay. Don't like books that aren't actually books though. Has he had work done on his head? Hair transplants? Syrup of figs? Medical therapy? Dye job? OK, that hairline is definitely lower than it used to be. He does look ten years younger so good luck to him however he's acheived it.

    • @EruditeMagic

🤣 @ the hairline. As a follically challenged individual myself, I can spot a George Costanza from quite a distance 😉

I ordered because, like you, I also like Luke Jermay a lot. I was a little leery when reading the description regarding the "book," but I thought I'd give it a shot. This seems similar to Harapan Ong's latest release in being essentially magic downloads. I should receive it this week.
Fun Jermay fact: He was a consultant for the TV shoe "The Mentalist." In fact, in the extras for one of the season's (Season 2?), he presents some of the techniques, etc. with the cast. I was stunned and thrilled when I saw it.
