Zootopia is actually the reason i am a fox, BUT after finding out airplane dragons and protogens exist i am so close on switching the species.

This place was where I discovered my inner furry, and I also made some special memories there so it holds a special place in my heart.
These are the things that had the most influence on me becoming a furry.

I became a furry because of several things, art, Sonic (catalyst), Seeing some furry art while I was younger.

But MLP was the bomb to really make me dive into it
I consider myself a furry (despite not doing anything related to this on my channel, yet), but I'm honestly not sure what made me become one - I may have just seen they existed online, and realized that I loved they idea of it all.
I do like "furry" characters in cartoons and the like, and I did so before discovering the fandom, but I don't know which character was the starting point, as it where.
I love werewolves so I drew myself as a monstrous werewolf with muscles, ripped clothes, and glowing green eyes and I became emotionally attached to him.

Airplane dragons are an open species (there’s no set rules on how you make them and what situations you can put them in, like drink coffee at a cafe).
They are like the fluffy dragons, except the heir wings resemble airplane wings. They can have appendages that resemble different parts of a plane. They wear visors, AND can be based on old-fashion propeller airplanes, or Jets.
If you wanted your airplane dragon to follow the non-strict lore. Airplane dragons spend most of their lives in the sky, they eat clouds, and love racing, they usually have a very competitive personality.

I believe it was a combination of role playing with friends as a kid and always choosing to be an anthropomorphic animal (bear, dog, etc.) and discovering an attraction to the thought of having a friendship with an anthropomorphic animal. THEN a nonspecific number of years ago I found furry art and the associated world of fur suiting ❤
i became a furry because of my sister, she doesn't like furries and she would call me a furry as a joke, so I grew very curious and I did my own research on what a furry was, from there I became a furry I fell in love with the art and fursuits
Bro, almost word for word this is what happened to me lol But in my case, it was an ex-friend (friend at the time) and I don't know what she thought of furries then.
I kinda was always a furry, I loved all cartoon animals, and for a while I exclusively watched animated anthro characters, and refused to watch anything else. But if I had to say the first furry/anthro media I was exposed to, it would be Tom and Jerry. I joined the fandom when my friends joked I was a furry and I did some research and found out what the furry fandom was and immediately was like “o shit that me! My people!” And the rest was history
It started a long time ago. I was really intrigued growing up whenever there was a transformation type thing in a tv show or movie like ben 10 or American Dragon Jake Long. Over time i started to look up werewolf transformations on youtube and of course youtube recommended me other videos dealing with transformations. I remember one that was a drawn hydra comic transformation with the Ke$ha song we are who we are playing in the back (that song still gives me PTSD). One of the youtube videos had a link to a drawing transformation site that had a lot of furry stuff on it and it just slowly progressed from there. It has been 12 years now.

Thankfully, I never saw anything too negative about the fandom to start with and was really intrigued when I saw how it was all about self-expression.

I too was doomed from the start. All the way back from when I was too young to understand anything except the funny talking animals in cartoons.

My furry awakening was Pirate101, almost every character is an anthro and as a small kid I thought the cool animal people were so cool. My proper intro to the fandom was PocariRoo, her videos were so cool and I wanted to join the fandom so bad, bee part of the fandom for 5 years now!!
I've been drawing anthro characters since as far back as i can remember. I've also have always had this love for anthropomorphic characters. It was when i found your channel did i realize what a furry is.
Funtime Foxy. He’s a queen in his own way! And mostly fnaf content and having the plushes. And certainly Odin. I’ve always liked his stuff even when I didn’t understand furries.
What made me completely become one and be more authentic with my furry style is definitely this channel. This channel has always been such a special place to me. Beta is such an awesome content creator!
Gotta say fnaf also got me into the fandom lmao 😭 (my fursona literally started off as a fnaf oc xD)

For me it was FNAF too, none of those old OCs stuck around but I'd love to bring those little guys back. I used to have furries, scalies and one bug boy all as FNAF OCs but they're all super translatable into none FNAF OCs.
I became a furry when I looked up what they were. I got drawn into the fandom and have been one for the past couple months.
Personally the two things that mostly contributed to me becoming a furry were Pokémon mystery dungeon, and a semi obscure book series called “the unwanteds quest”

Furry thing is like a virus. If you see or hear something about furries you will somehow become a furry. I was a anti-furry at the past until i saw a furry channel on youtube. Then youtube algorithm showed me some furry stuff (especially puss in boot) and it slowly captured me and made me a furry.

My story is a bit complicated. I discovered Furries because of MFF 2014 Chlorine Attack from someone sharing the link article from Equestria Daily and yes i was a brony at the time. I find it weird because wearing the costume in a hot weather is a bit stupid. So i just give my condolences and move on to focus on MLP.
That is until 2016, when i want to branch out to other fandoms. I am aware of Furries by then and with the release of Zootopia which i love it! I just randomly search "Furries in public" on youtube and i was in shock. I love seeing those furries giving people smile especially with kids! So, i watched more furries and eventually discovered more youtubers such as Majira Strawberry.
In 2018, i left the Brony fandom after 5 years with them, so i have to migrate to new fandoms which is Furries AND Pokemon and that Pokemon is freakin Lucario LOL.
i already was an anthro enjoyer before i officially knew what the furry fandom was, but i found it in elementary when we were playing "five nights at freddy's tag" which, after playing, i started watching fnaf playthroughs and other fandom things, and eventually it evolved from there💀even before that though, i grew up watching the fantastic mr fox, disney's robinhood, alpha and omega, etc
I believe I became a furry from watching Cheetara from the 2011’s ThunderCats series on Cartoon Network. I remember crushing hard on her while watching the show and eventually sought out Fanfics and Fan Art of her. Which led me to FA lol.
Now TBF, I was already interested in talking animal/humanoid characters long before I even knew what a furry was as I grew up watching a ton of cartoons and animated movies that heavily involved such characters, but I just never knew there was a fandom/community for it lol. Also, I fancied drawing a lot, so at that point it was just destiny for me to discover the furry fandom lol.
Some honorable mentions that I can remember was Cake the Cat from Adventure Time, Gia the Jaguar from Madagascar 3 and Florrie the Lion (aka, Alex’s mom from Madagascar 2)

I was turned into a furry by you (specifically you’re coming out as a furry to your family, and the young furrs vid) Pokémon, and the wolf children movie that the guy mentioned. (kind of funny how my mom bought it after I found out about the furry fandom.) Plenty of cartoons with talking animals. Including the lion King, and bolt. Oh, can’t forget about zootopia, majira strawberry and NSFW stuff sadly. And the reason why I’m a snake furry is because . . . I mean have you SEEN Donuts’s tail?!?!
For me, it was Pokémon, Star Fox (SNES, 64, and especially Krystal in Adventures), Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie on the N64, my experience in the TTRPG community, the various stories on Deviant Art and Fur Affinity and finally, how kind, caring, welcoming, and accepting the people are within the community to newer members.
Honestly, Disney and WB started it in the early 90's, then in college I ended up finding UseNet groups and mucks (which I still frequent). Yeah, I'm old hat, and it's been fun watching it evolve with the Internet turning into what it is now, in both good and bad ways. I'm also not one that expresses himself with it as much as others, I'm just someone who finds it interesting, who grew up with it and really doesn't see any problems with it.

I still only like the kemono style aspect of furries and was never the biggest fan of animals in animated shows/movies, so uh it’s really weird for me to not be the “typical” furry

I was pretty much born this way. I made a character named Rai that was a electric cat when I was 4? Maybe 5. Around 10 saw the furry fandom, and realized that I really liked the idea. From there, Rai (the fursona) was created!
Early on, I was obsessed with Zelda twilight princess and Animorphs. I went through years of saying I'm not a furry but... The thing that finally got me to admit it was me constantly rewatching lone digger by caravan palace, liking beastars art style, and me constantly fantasizing about being a werewolf or fox person.

I became a furry almost around the same time you did Beta. I was constantly looking for furry styled media. A long rabbit hole of Werewolf movies and then onto Road Rovers. After searching up for more content I just stumbled upon furry-themed content which I don’t even remember. I was kind of always one anyways. Loved Warrior Cats, embarrassingly I liked Paw Patrol(In Middle School) because I was desperate for literally anything to do. Strange story but not too far off. One thing is for certain though, I don’t regret it.
It’s been a long while since then and I’ve got to watch the community basically explode in popularity throughout my childhood and then into adulthood.

A furry friend turned me into a furry. We were in a call, and he started joking about how funny it would be for me to have a fursona or say UwU unironically.
Eventually he gave me descriptions of what I could put on a fursona, and his friend made me one. Around the same time your channel got recommended to me so… yeah.
For me it was one of the developers of an online community I was running. Tbh i was interested in the art before but always was like "Im not a furry, I just like the art" and then this dev with their really cool Avali sona just was like "If you like the art, why not try to make your own character?" and the I was like, "I guess I could try" and from that point on I was one.
A freaind named Dillon barns told me about it, also with a few youtube Videos. then in middle school I found out about tic toc furrys, this was back in middle school. It is now my last year of high school and I'm still hooked on the furry fandom
I decided to watch a few videos explaining both what a furry is and what it's about and kinda realized I fall under the definition which it has now been 7 years ish and now I am planning to go to my first con sometime in the next year. Also the click, Fluke, and Beta were huge parts of it to in recent years.
Like a lot of people, MLP:FiM was my gateway, though being a lifelong animation fan certainly planted the seed since I was little.

How I became a furry it started with watching through Bo's playthrough of Adastra in summer of 2022. Later on in beginning of autumn I found your Channel watched already quite a few especially the furry conversation ones love your Maverick fursuit with the straight up ponti nose. End of autumn beginning winter I found more Furry UA-camrs. And then I found Dino Mask Videos and I couldn't hold back anymore and I bought my self two masks. First ones colors front snout is yellow and the cheeks are turquoise, the jaws front is purple and the back yellow, the forehead is purple and the sides are dark blue. Later on I drawed turquoise eyes name is Mirax. Second one is black and white with fur ears it's a T-rex husky dog hybrid named Ryker. :3 And this how I became a furry. There were even signs before I became one for example my favorite Mario character being Yoshi in light blue and the Grunts from Halo Combat Evolved I adore them. Kinda ironic and funny that I became a furry just before my 20th birthday.😂

was a fnaf kid, guess thats where it probably started for a lot of us. since then i guess i just moved away from the edgy 13-year old stage of hating furries and just cringing less and less at furry stuff, until i started actually consuming furry media. playing the adastra and echo visual novels recently is probably what gave me the push to start on making a fursona now.
EDIT: the video essays from boring keith (keith ballards second channel) on beastars and since adastra is probably what tipped me into considering myself a furry, and not just a person peripherally interested in the fandom.
My interest in superheroes and character creation is what got me interested. Came up with an idea for a hero vigilante called Lone Wolf, denied being a furry for a couple months due to the internet stereotype and limited knowledge of the fandom, and accepted after seeing some fantastic wolf superhero art online.
Fnaf started it and Zootopia locked me in.
Fenoxo, was already into weird stuff and played CoC, the characters having fur wasn't a positive at first, but eventually grew to become one.
That and knots, once I found out about knots, it was game over.
Started with fnaf and looking up Foxy fanart then saw Zootopia, but what did it for me was Loona from Helluva Boss and Slushi from Chikn Nuggit, thank you algorithm for recommending me that, tbh I'm more happy that I found the Furry Fandom, it has gotten me back into drawing again and I just feel more confident then before, so thank you and Hello
Got into the furry fandom back in late 2010, over 12 years ago, due to an American kid's tv show from PBS; Dinosaur Train, which had many episodes since I first saw that show. I like trains and I liked dinosaurs at the time. Instead of the whole denial phase, I skipped straight to trying to create art somewhat like the show. Thankfully, my drawing and other art skills have greatly advanced since then. Though I didn't fully tell my family I was a furry, I eased into it (mostly).
Started with Anime in to get me into the idea of none human characters, but the push to join the fandom came from finding Reyn Goldfurs comic Cave Critters, then joined everything I could and went to conventions and bought art in 2015
Ok this story is a weird one!
It all began when I was playing gacha online on roblox. Yeah I know I was cringe. But I met someone on there and friended them. Because they played Kaiju paradise, I saw it in the friends playing section. One day on a random wim I decided to play and someone mentioned changed in chat. The rest goes without saying. Kinda a weird story I know, but I felt like sharing anyway!
For me it was way back around 2004/2005, when I happened upon a site called WhitePony Productions and a character named Beth. This led me to find a companion site called the Cross Time Cafe, which is a collaborative effort by many comic makers and artists. Most of my introduction to furry and anthro art comes from many of the original founders and artists of the community, such as Scudder Kidwell, Jim Groat, Mark Stanley, and too many others to list😄, and that brings us to the present.
Playing as a khajiit in Skyrim and pokemon were the starting point.
Playing night in the woods and learning more about the community beyond the stereotypes were the final push I needed.
I found out that I am fully furry in the middle of October, but my way to it was pretty bizarre. I can say that the key point for me to become a furry was in 2012, when I first time watched Kung-fu Panda 2. At that time, I didn't know a thing about furries, and when I went to the middle school (I was 12 at that time), I found a furry fandom, but I, as my friends at that time, thought that furries are freaks and we were hating furry, because they are "not normal" (I was stupid that time). But even when my friends were hating furries, I was keeping watching some furry related stuff without understanding that I am furry. When the lockdown stats and up to summer 2022, I wasn't watching furry stuff, but when I came abroad to study, I decided to re-watch all Kung-fu Panda series. A little bit later, in September, the UA-cam algorithms started to recommend me furry staff, so I keep my way to becoming a furry. The last thing that made me furry was a video called "The fandom. A Furry Documentary" by Ash Coyote, and after that video, I became furry.
I was playing Roblox one day and found a game called Kaiju Paradise, loved the transfurs in it, joined the discord, and found myself looking at the art channel almost every day. From there I found Changed which sealed the deal.

What turned me into a furry was crash bandicoot, ratchet and clank, fantastic Mr fox and finally Zootopia. MSG might also have had a part to play

So a WHOLE LOT of things had some contribution for me, but I will try to sum it down in vaguely chronological order:
-Ben 10 Classic: This was a childhood favorite show of mine (God bless on-demand). And I've always preferred Wildmutt as my favorite alien (that role would later be shared with Humongousaur)
-Jting_F: I discovered protogens and fell in love with 'em and was also further exposed to the furry fandom and decided to dive a lil' deeper because of them
-You, Beta: the first video I watched after Jting was your video on protogens (as part of your series of videos on furry fandom species). I stuck around since then
-Fur Affinity: ever since I've discovered the site (partially because of me scrolling through a bunch of images of Wildmutt and coming across some...things), I've made a habit of browsing there (without an account, of course). I've grasped some of my other interests from here.
These were some of the BIG influences, coupled with my own research, having a small identity crisis, and eventually, saying "yes" to that age old question...
1. Geronimo Stilton when I was a kid
2. Aggretsuko happened
3. Lockdown happened
4. Pestilence from RuneScape happened
5. Beastars happened because hey more furry shoes (there was a specific Facebook post that stated that I watched a beastars and suddenly UA-cam showed me furry stuff)
6. I was posting about bara and furry shit in 2019 already? Never mind the theories above idk anymore
My story is a Wilde ride lemme tell ya. It started back in 2020 when we were under lockdown. I was watching random movies, and one I picked was Zootopia. I had seen it back in 2016 but at the time it didn’t stand out to much to me. But this time, it did thjngs. I loved it so much I started reading fan fics and joined the zootopia subreddit. Eventually I found other subreddits such as Furry_irl. At this point I was still in denial. It wasn’t until r/place 2023 when the Zootopia subreddit formed and alliance with many other fandoms and furry_irl was one of them. We had a big discord server for all of us and those people were some of the nicest people I ever met. I was in the phase of maybe I’m a little furry because of this.
It wasn’t until like a month ago that I accepted it. I’ve never felt so amazing in my life.
When I was really little, I had no idea how big or amazing the Internet was, because I didn't have it at that age, all I knew was I was in LOVE with Spyro the dragon because I played those games nonstop. I imagined in my head that I was a lil pink dragon with a heart motif and I was his girlfriend.
Obviously, I put it out in the universe - because in later games a pink dragon with a heart motif had a huge crush on Spyro.
I mean Spyros a cutie lol
The timeline on how I became a furry:
1. When I was younger , I didn't think was that connected with furry character other than paw patrol.
2. Oddly enough , from what I remember , how I started being a furry was actually the game just shapes and beats. This is gonna be related trust me. I have gotten some interest in this game
3. After some time of 8-bit ryan , I found project arrythmia. I also enjoyed this. When I searched it on youtube , I found scribbs. After some more time , I saw a playlist of her's that took my attention , Lonely Wolf Treat. Yeah there it is. I really liked that game and it's other games. They're just very cute for me
4. After some more , time , yeah it's still going , I found the click. I noticed his channel through r/furry_irl. I watched them first because i thought they were cute. After some time watching him , I thought about myself , and thought , "Am I a furry?"
5. After watching a whole lot of furry_irl from the click , solersabre popped up in my recommended , and the rest is history
Also , most of this has happened from 2019-2020. It has been like 2 years and my fursona's still stuck in my head. Man I took a lot of time typing this.
For me, the straw that broke the camel's back was a roblox experience called "d" on a map called furry.
(I had already heard of furries prior to that, but was previously indifferent)
My journey started with Odd1sout! I always generally enjoyed anthropomorphic art, but it would have taken much longer for me to get here if the Odd1's consistent banter about NOT being a furry hadn't sparked my curiosity back in... 2018? I had no idea what a furry was, and thanks to furry youtubers such as yourself, I ended up working through some self-acceptance stuff and am now a member of the fandom and the queer community!

That's how I became a furry
I recall mentioning this in a community post but I’ll try making a TLDR version here:
Planted the seeds through consuming furry-ish stuff like pokemon, fnaf, werewolves, old cartoons, etc.
2016 big brother showed me someone named Yonkagor who made music and animation memes (used to), I kept watching animation memes which were usually made by furries or had furry characters (and I likely became one there).
2017 found the fandom through sheer coincidence searching Shane Dawson out of curiosity and found a interview on furries.
Moved on to a bunch of furry youtubers, one of main ones being 🫵 *you.*
And the rest is history.
It's a long story, but the critical milestones were rediscovering Rescue Rangers 25 yrs ago, finding out that Furry could be a wholesome thing via said online fandom, and the clincher was going to Dragon Con years later and being both disappointed that there were no non-anime animation panels and publicly embarrassed at an anime panel for being the only one who liked the American/Western animation style better.
The famous Kuroodod did it for me XD. My journey's first part to becoming a furry was just being obsessed in Poke-sonas. (Eevee's specifically and some can probably guess why >w>)
Then the second part was consisting of listening you talk about furries and reacting to protogen memes while mowing the lawn.
No idea how I ended up in this fandom. It just kind of happened.
I can’t remember when or how I became a furry. As far as I’m concerned I’ve always been one. Because I’ve always been drawn to animal characters. I just only now recently decided I am an active furry ever since I went to MFF last year. Since that trip being a furry has become a huge part of my life. Saving up for a fursuit and everything.
Hard to pinpoint where exactly I decided I was, but I'd say one of the more pivotal moments was the transition from NSFW work to an SFW comic and going "Oh no, this stuff can actually be good."
I was pretty online, and in that time the furry hate was much more widespread and vitriolic than now. On reflection, I feel that the hate drawing my attention to it inadvertently got me to explore it, so that may actually be the true entry point, though it was a meandering path to here and now.
To start with, it was Robin Hood(the one with the fox) pretty much when it came out(I was five or something like that), what confirmed it was a mix of The Click, Generic Purple Protogen, Raeal the Protogen(backrooms with OkayDoughnuts), and Changed gameplay.
For me it was a multitude of different occasions that made me a furry. One was pokemon (lucario "cough"), my cousin showing artwork from different franchises (like digimon, pokemon etc.) and then out of curiosity I browsed Furaffinity and I found Sergals. 🧀
Don’t ask but for me it was Space Station 13. I always found it crazy how the game has different species and not just humans and each of them have their unique things. My oldest character is Jeremy Williams the flyperson which would always do the goofiest things and get into trouble (oh no I got demoted again).
How I became a furry was from Bara (gay manga, ML). A genre that changed my life forever. Seeing hyper masculine male characters with unconventionally body types in homoerotic situations made me feel elated and seen. As I when down that rabbit hole, I found another specific type of genre that coincide with Bara was Kemono. Artist like Takaku Nozomu and Takezamurai dabble art and stories that includes anthro animal characters but there's a plethora of artist who mainly make kemono. After that, e621 happened lol.
Other reasons was my kindling love for Bowser and the movie Zootopia that got me into the fandom.
It started with a slight obsession about foxes. My friends then started jokingly calling me a furry, also justifying it with a fact that I was in a tech-related Discord server where there were some furries. Also, at about the same time I joined a tech-focused Mastodon instance, and every Friday, among the trending hashtags there was fursuitFriday. This all combined eventually got me interested and I searched for some videos about the fandom on UA-cam. And there we go, I'm a furry now.
I honestly don't know if I'm a furry(I'm probably in denial), but some of the things that I have realized might be the reasons were my crushes on max goof from the goofy movie and beast boy, not even OG beast boy the one from teen titans go-

According to my dad I was watching The Lion King on repeat as soon as it came out, at the ripe old age of 2. Nala's eyes in that one shot -- you know the one -- left a strong imprint even when I was too young to understand why. Beyond that, I just always enjoyed furry-adjacent media, and when I started posting my Pokémon doodles online as a teenager I found out furry was a thing and, more importantly, it was definitely *my* thing.

I am quite certain Totally Spies has to answer for a lot of my quirks, including the furry thing. So thanks for that seed 20 years ago.
Well... I used to take the piss out of them... then when I was a student I lived with a furry and learnt a lot about the community. Pyrocynical was the first info in them back in 2016... but Beastars is what got me more interested and curious for the community. Not to mention the Voice actor Jonah scott. Can't even believe I'm typing this early me pre 2016 would have been very surprised 😅😅

I'd like to think it's fairly unique, but my dad showed me Happy Tree Friends when I was 14-15, and I really got into it. Eventually found a community of fan artists/furries on deviantArt and befriended them, fell in with them and the rest is history! (Oh yeah, I'm still tight friends with them a decade later
Odin wolf is the person!! I found his videos 4-5 years ago and I loved the idea of the fandom and was allured with the idea of a fursona!
Mascots from holiday camps (percificaly shades the shark and dizzy the dolphin) the lion king brought me further into the fandom.
I became a furry for a few reasons.
The big three are: Zootopia, Furry Art (safe for work and not safe for work), and what ultimately made me feel comfortable that being furry wasn’t something super weird or bad was Ash Coyote’s Furry documentary “the Fandom.”
I knew I had an interest in anthropomorphic characters prior to this point, but I had denied I was a furry because of the stigma and lies surrounding us, Ash helped open my eyes and I thank her for that.
I’m not sure what made my girlfriend a furry, but one of the reasons I’m dating her is that I know she won’t judge me for being a furry (and I won’t judge her), plus she’s just overall an awesome, funny, and amazing woman.

1. Had absolutely no idea it was a fandom until around 2014 when I found a video I can't find anymore in the middle of the night in summer. Always loved anthro characters like the Angry Beavers main characters or Tails' satAM rendition, so I had no issues calling myself a furry
2. I was gonna say something else about something said in the video but forgot it and am too lazy to go back to remember what it was because there's a good chance I won't find it and make the connection with my brain
3. Angry Beavers definitely inspired my sona species choice and formed my love for beavers

I became a furry because I was on UA-cam and got a random suggestion for a furry dance comp and fell in love with it.
I saw a little 12 year old that had a skulldog and I've always asked for one and I finally got one for a birthday-christman present because it was so expensive.
The thing that made me a furry was that one episode of SpongeBob of where Gary bites and turns him into a snail. Well I never knew it then, it did kina cause me to develop a TF kink that I later began to realize as I grew older. One thing led to another and here we are. Thanks Gary for introducing me to a life I never knew was possible.

I look at so much tf art and read so much tf stories. I just really like seeing people adjust to their new forms.
This is going to sound a little strange but the way I got to the fandom, was the original Lon Chaney Jr, Wolf Man, which got me interested werewolves, and then got me interested in anthropomorphic characters, which then led me to the furry fandom.
my first furry experience was Maid Marian. I was around 6-8 years old. I'm 33 now.
Vanilla, Judy and Bianca are what got me into making a bunny Sona cuz I love rabbits with all my heart along with owning two of them as pets at one point.
For me, it depends if you're asking what made me a furry, or what made me join the fandom. For question #1, I can't pinpoint it to anything exact, but I when I was younger, I was practically obsessed with stuff like sonic, or just about any cartoon with anthro animals. They were always my favorite (take tuff puppy for example, I vaguely remember loving that show). As for what made me find/join the fandom, I think I still remember despite it being like 6-7 years ago now. I'm like 95% sure I was googling stuff about one of those shows I watched and came across some fanart on Fur Affinity. I didn't know what FA was, so I looked up what that was then looked up what furries were, and went "Oh yeah, I fit the bill there, guess that's me." Never really had any reason to hate on it like a lot of people because I just understood it right away.
I turned into one by jokingly sending furry gifs with my friends... 1 month later it wasn't that much of a joke anymore.
I was chillin on UA-cam, saw Pocari Roo's video on how to make a fursona, clicked, and said-
'Yep. This is me now.'
I also used to watch the Lion King wayyy too much ever since I was old enough to remember.
I became a furry for 2 reasons:
1. I have a knack for animals (including anthropomorphic ones).
2. I discovered Eric Schwartz (thanks to Stuart K. Reily).
A mix of The Banana Splits from the Boomerang channel, two obscure animated movies; Stella Luna and Dot and the Kangaroo, Hogwash the fursuit dancer, and PocariRoo
Well for me what got me interested in furries was zootopia kinda but it was mostly Telephone that got me into the furry fandom fully but in general i found the furry fandom to be a very interesting fandom and that its very misunderstood, i love how welcomeing people are and accepting and i love furries in general, they are so cute and lovely
I have always loved costuming, and grew up with shows like Biker Mice from Mars, Street Sharks, and Gargoyles. I'm also one of those with high empathy for non-human animals, and loved to play as lions and wolves.
I always loved stuffed animals (dolls eww), was big into animal puppets, and disney movies featuring animals (Lilo and Stitch, Rescuers Down Under) as well as books (Redwall, Warriors). I got into the Brony fandom and became adjacently aware of furries. I initially was weirded out by the art because I preferred my talking four-legged character friends than the more human anthro designs. During the pandemic, I started watching Solar Saber's videos and then all the other big youtubers (Click, Pocari Roo, Ash, you) and it grew from there. I recognized a similar love of animals, but specifically what made me don the label for myself was watching the fursuit-making videos (Skyhigh Studios). I felt an immediate kinship with the artists and the craft. It was just the perfect combination of stuffed animals, puppets, and dressing up that I didn't know I needed in my life. The more furry content I found, the more I related to the various memes or creators, the more kindred spirits I found.
