So uhhh five years later but I went to this high school (this was done my freshman year); this is Cantus Certus which is a special audition-only choir that’s VERY hard to get into, so it’s the cream of the crop (from a high school with al already-decent arts program).
This is amazing. I can imagine only a relatively small group of people actually know what this is in the audience though. Most people must have been "This sounds really good. Wonder who wrote it?" You know, the parents and Grand parents in the audience. And then there's the group of fans who turned up JUST for this and their like "Oh my god their doing it!" and there just at the edge of their seats with excitement. I know I would be.

it's a high school choir guys, not some professional one. of course they didn't get everything perfect compared to the professionally trained actual choir who recorded the theme. they did pretty fucking well for just being kids in high school. enough with the stupid elitist comments lol
This effect is created by the beauty of those almost elivish voices, while the original one is sung by strong voices. So, I do not think the reason for this effect is the language.
+Eissa Cozorav Considering the term Barbarian was meant to apply to anyone who spoke a language not of Rome, if they're speaking a language that you understand it just doesn't have that Barbarian appeal. Besides, the Dovah language is pretty cool.
+Eissa Cozorav this is because lighter voices were used, while the heavier and deeper voices are in the background. in the original, its exactly the opposite.
This was the best English version of this song I've found! (actually, the only one I found) I've always wondered how it should sound, and this gave me a good idea.... I would of started singing along if I was not in a house full of 3 other people besides me. Regardless, super awesome job guys! (that gave me goosebumps like you would not believe XD)
It would have been awesome if sovngarde was ten times more impressive, and you could actually see the divines and there was an epic choir of nords singing this XD
How awesome was that! You can't fault this song at all. On of the best soundtracks to a game I have ever heard. Just think how difficult it must have been to write this song In dragon but also having to make it make sense in English? Genius.
Egregiously under viewed considering the reach of skyrim and incredibly impressive this was achieved with high schoolers. Knowing this is 10 years old i hope all involved are thriving now!
This performance brought goosebumps to my back and tears to my eyes. I was overloaded with epicness. Ah all the good memories coming from Skyrim! Now I must go and play for some hours! :D Excellent work. Legendary!
This is not correct. However much I appreciate UltimateDubMan in attempting to assist in this situation, the title has hardly changed since the upload back in the Spring of 2012, but for some editing for clarification made during that respective summer. Apologies for being late to the party.
Super impressed with the girls at 2:20. And in general, I've heard so many shitty choirs on UA-cam doing pop-cultural pieces like this one, but for once, I was very pleased with what I found. Thank you!
+Eon Guipagho thanks man! I'm just a game nerd I guess, I do play sports, and love my dirtbike. But games like Skyrim, Fallout, and open world games like Grand Theft Auto I just love. Lol
There's quite a few of choir renditions of this song, even high-productions from here in Sweden, yet I always keep coming back to this one. Skyrim and the Dragonborn is all about using your Voice and this arrangement is by far the most powerful one, makes me shiver evry tim.

This is absolutely wonderful! I stumbled on this video thinking it would be terrible and I would have a laugh.. Instead was astonished! Anybody complaining about too many girl voices for a gutteral song... must have never been in a high school choir. I think this arrangement is adapted so well to USE the female voices while maintaining the heart and soul and grit of the original piece. The part that actually brought a tear to my eye was the hight female only part. Just WOW. And the guys in this choir were absolutely amazing and powerful and... unashamed, haha. Thinking back to my high school choir... just WOW! Good job everyone!
their is no English version this is ancient words that was from Vikings and you know damn well that they have no time to search up ancient words this is a fake but it's kinda good but still don't make my favourite game your toy to make up words
Unfortunately for your statement, that is not correct. In interview with the game developers and music composers, Dovahzul (the language of the dragons) and Cyrodiilic (English) are one-to-one languages that work in tandem with one another -- especially in music. The song was composed, and published, in both Cyrodiilic and Dovahzul. While it is far more popular to perform the song in Dovahzul, the 'English' version is, by no means, "made up."
the acoustics of the performance space, recording location and quality, composition of the choir in terms of altos, spranos, baritones, tenors, etc is also going to have an effects on how much of a //punch// the song has. Mixing and after effects also impact this so as a live performance from a highschool choir in a space that isn't designed specifically to optimize their sound? THIS IS AMAZING! if they had even SOME of those things available to professionals or the semi professional artists here in UA-cam like Malukah, Karliene, etc... This would be magnitudes more amazing than it already is.
You know an epic thing is epic when you're literally having goosebumps from head to toes. great job guys! now i'll never get over with my dream of becoming the dovahkiin! Dovaaahhhkiiin! Yaaah! Damn...
I’m actually, genuinely, crying right now. Skyrim has such a big part of my heart, I love that game so much, this did the main theme justice for sure!!
I for one am glad someone did the English version. It's not that I like it better, I just like to be able to hear it in both versions (it has its own appeal), and they did a good job with it.
I would've loved to been able to hear this in person, it sounds incredible. *-* Although I think it'd be a bit easier to understand if there were lyrics somewhere.
+Hadridia this is at my current high school but I was in the audience when she was in it. She is the person behind the girl with black hair in the middle of the front row.
+Hadridia lol are you seriously arguing about this I know what high school it is.. I go to it. It's in Minnesota. And yea she is in this she graduated in 2013 and she was in Cantus Certus .
I got chills listening to this and not just cause it's currently freezing in my room :V that thing with the glow sticks was pretty fun and quite entertaining
so the today i walked into choir and heard a familiar tune on the piano, somebody suggested the song to my choir director and he wants to do it! i am very happy now
Abdulla Barre No, because it's like the single sung English version of this song in the internet. There are many in dovahzul (also, shame on you for misspelling that x3)
And teacher of the year award goes to:
+Ian McFenny Dean Jilek
the high school choir director in this video
And the teacher of the millenia*
Ian McFenny it goes to Prof. Dovahkiin
Esbern.
The people in the audience who dont know skyrim must be really confused
they clapped regardless its a badass tune
i know i'm responding really late but listen to the lyrics most don't need context.
I'd be hyped. I fell in love with the soundtrack before the game.
Woah this is a high school choir?? Damn they're impressive. *Clap clap clap clap* all sections are pretty balanced too.
So uhhh five years later but I went to this high school (this was done my freshman year); this is Cantus Certus which is a special audition-only choir that’s VERY hard to get into, so it’s the cream of the crop (from a high school with al already-decent arts program).
Skyrim theme in english.
Quite frankly I'm speechless.
Master Vampire by speechless do you mean disgusted, or amazed?
I love it

Poor souls. It gets stuck in their heads and they will never know the song's name.

The choir was good, was the arrangement that sucked... just keep the original, don't try to "be original"...
+Dragon10101011 the arrangement was great !
THEY FUCKING SUCKED, MY DOG CAN DO BETTER, JESUS FUCKING CHRIST, no jk, I'm not one to talk, I can't sing for shit😂😂
they projected their voice very well and everything was said with much power and they sung it in English
i think the english version seems to be more "fantasy" aproach..
where the original have "barbarian" theme
This effect is created by the beauty of those almost elivish voices, while the original one is sung by strong voices. So, I do not think the reason for this effect is the language.
True sons and daughters of Skyrim verses the Thalamor and their puppets.
I agree with +Pedro Furtado

I love how the lyrics rhyme in both Drangontongue AND English.
This is just beautiful, mad props to all of the people from the choir.
If I remember right they were written first in English and then the composer created the dragon language around the song.
This song should be featured else where in the game, like if you could ask some people to sing it with you or somthing. just a thought
It would have been awesome if sovngarde was ten times more impressive, and you could actually see the divines and there was an epic choir of nords singing this XD

why is this the only english version?

My choir teacher is so closed minded, she hates anything new that hasn't been played in a broadway musical. So our options are VERY limited.
How did I miss this till now? Awesome. Love it love it love it!
The female vocals were too high, it sounded more like something from Harry Potter, than Skyrim. They should've got them to lower it.
