Hi Wade, I hope you are keeping well. Great pack you got there :) I have been a fan of L.L. Bean gear for years. I used to use a lot of their packs and luggage for guiding on the rivers. Nice mix of modern and traditional looks!! I know what you mean about having short straps under the pack. I suppose it is aimed more for storing rain gear and not bulky items. I have a couple myself and I often think about extending them a bit to hold bed rolls or sleeping bags. Always nice to catch up with you brother, all the best, Mark :)
Hello Mark awesome to hear from you. It's good to hear from people with real world experience, thanks for sharing that. Most people dont actually carry bedrolls do they haha! You're right just light less bulky items usually. Take care buddy and talk to you soon! Wade
Nice review Wade. This is the pack I see in a lot of the videos. I just got mine last night and L.L. Bean has made some changes. You no longer get the side straps for the pass through. No zipper pocket on inside. The water bladder pocket does not have a buckle strap, just a big pocket with an elastic at the top. The large outside pocket has to small mesh pockets inside. The fleece lined pocket is now in the lid with a zipper on the outside just above the grab handle. There is now a laptop pocket with the zipper down the whole side of the air mesh padding. I guess I could try and keep a small tarp in there.
Hi wade thanks for sharing I wanted one a couple of years ago but was only available in black and import tax to the UK kill it price wise picked one up on business in Chicago it's an excellent pack stay safe
Have one as well, use it in the field as well as when I travel. It will, even jammed with clothes and a laptop, fit under airline seats....no bag charge for me! Great buy for the $$, and totally agree about the slide thru pocket on the sides.
Hahaha !!!! I was shopping last night and was 90% sure that was the pack I was going to buy !! You just helped me decide ! 100% all in now !! Thanks for the great review Wade ! 👍👍🍻

Looks like a very well made, well designed pack, thanks for sharing Wade. L.L. Bean make quality products. I just received a Karrimor Sabre 35 which is similar in size and price. It also has two side pockets which can fit a 12cm billy pot or swallow up a 1 litre water bottle with room to spare. It features two zippered side pockets which are tall enough to fit a Silky Big Boy or a even my Gransfors Bruks Wildlife hatchet. The lid has a pocket with room for gloves, hat, small first aid kit, and other things. I carry about the same weight on a day trip and it is a comfortable pack too. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.
That pack sounds pretty awesome man! Karrimor packs seem very well made. Thanks for sharing that my friend and above all get out and enjoy that pack!👊😎

I have two of these packs, one just like yours and an older wax canvas model. The waxed Rucksack lacks the straps which I prefer on the new models. Compared to my Frosted River packs, LL Beans are lighter and more comfortable to carry. FR bags and their canoe packs are certainly build to last a lifetime though.
That's cool you have a vintage one as well! The FR packs are awesome, built to last not for comfort although I find my Isle Royale pretty comfy actually. I really like this LL Bean pack it's a winner for the price. Thanks for watching my friend!👍

I have this pack and am very pleased with it. It will hold a surprising amount of gear. I line the main compartment with a heavy trash bag for additional water proofing. Great for over-nighters. It has held up for me. Thanks for the review.
That pack looks like a winner Wade my friend. I believe it will serve you well. Seeing all that snow kind of makes me want to come north buddy, I can barely handle working the summer months down here any more. Anyway, I really enjoyed watching this video and have a great day my friend. Tennessee
Thanks Wade. That looks like a cool pack. I agree about having bigger straps for attaching stuff to. That's really important. Also I prefer the straps to zips. I have zips on my current day pack and they are hard work and I know it's only a matter of time before they fail. A lot of food for thought for me in this video when I start looking to upgrade me pack. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge. Much appreciated. ATB, Mark.

Thanks for watching my friend! After about 1 month of use I still love this pack although I cant consider that long term use. It looks well made so far! Take care brother👍
I have been looking at that pack for a while.... but I do have a Hidden Woodsmen Day Ruck that’s almost the same size, going to order some side pouches for it some day. Snow and more snow. We had a restaurant collapse last night in North Bay due to snow load on the roof, it was closed for the night so nobody inside. Thanks for the review Wade.
Wow that's terrible, I'm glad nobody was injured, that's a lot of snow! The HW day ruck is a great pack enjoy that! Side pouches would be very handy for sure. Thanks for watching buddy and stay warm!🔥👍

Good morning Nikki, thanks for watching! It seems to be well made for the price and I got mine at %25 off which helped out a lot!Take care and talk to you soon! Wade
Greetings Wade...I like the look of this pack. I am no big fan of zippers as a means to secure cargo space in a pack. The classic configuration of this pack is well tried and tested, the new materials used are interesting. I see that Dave Canterbury has also reviewed this pack. I still have my 1960's canvas, Karrimor Outward Bound Rucksack, it was the one favoured by those schools who did the 'Outward Bound' Certificate, it has no frills, plain canvas webbing straps that I put my own padding on. Other than been faded, it still does the job. I have a military grade 3 Day Assault Pack...loads of zips and pockets, but It does have a lid/flap that folds right over the front so that you would have a chance of still securing a load, should the main zip fail (the pack is a Defcon-5 = 'defence contractor')? I recently acquired a Canadian Military 82 Pattern Rucksack, I have just re-assembled it, it has the classic three external pocket design. After a heavy dump of snow here last week, it looks like temperatures are set to rise. Take care, Chris
It's a great bag for sure although I use my Frost River Isle Royale Jr. more often to be honest. Just a caution I have heard that LLBean has altered the dimensions of this pack recently including smaller pouches. Check out to see if it is still suitable for you. Thanks for watching👍🌲
Hey brother! Awesome and very thorough review. I've been dreaming after this pack for a while. Look great. Thanks for sharing. May the forest be with you.
I love that pack, I bought mine last year, I have many other more expensive packs, but I keep going back to this pack, and my Cannae Hipster, bot excellent. Dave Canterbury has tested and abused this pack, he couldn’t find anything wrong with it, except some of the smaller buckles on the pack.
Nice pack, and nice look at it. While I love traditional stuff, the lack of padding and hydration capability has baffled me for decades. That ruck makes a lot of plain practical sense.
Hi Bjorn, this one may suit you. They actually have a leather and canvas version with extra shoulder padding. It's a bit expensive but possibly worth it. Take care my friend. 👊
it's even less expensive in the states right now...$79 usd at LL Bean although the sand/tan is back ordered, grey and black are available...looking forward to a more in depth review...good stuff!
Very nice review. I have been looking for a ruck in this capacity that has a few modern features but that still has a traditional layout. Thanks for passing your thoughts on the pack along.
I love this pack, too. And it is a great value when you buy it when LL Bean is having a sale. I picked up two at about $60 each. It is a well-thought out pack with good size side pockets for many things and the pass-through loops. I would like to see a pouch added to the top. I would also like to haave drawstrings on the side and small rear pockets. It would be nice if it came with, or if additionally similarly colored straps were available for purchase.
Hi Woodswalker, what model are you reviewing, I understand they changed the design sometime in 2019. The new one is smaller, smaller side pockets etc. Thanks!
Hi Dan, yes you're right they have changed the dimensions on the new model unfortunately. This is the older model. It's really too bad because the smaller side pockets really make the pack less useful. Thanks for watching👍
Nice pack and I say that cause I own a green one and I use it a lot. I personally have found little fault with this pack other than the draw string to close the bucket completely is inhibited by the padding on the back of the pack but it's a fair trade off in my opinion. It's an awesome day and possible overnight pack and with a 25 liter dry sack inside closing the bucket doesn't matter hardly at all.
Thanks very much! That's a pretty good recommendation then. Someone else made the comment that their drawstring grommet failed. It could be due to the problem you just stated. Thanks for watching and for the great comment! 👍
Thanks for the review. You also did a recent review on the frost River Isle Royale jr. Pack. Which one do you prefer? Thanks for your time and the great videos
Thanks for the question! I have to say it's a tough call. I use the FR more because I like how traditional it looks. The LL Bean pack is a bit more comfortable and a great looking pack too. The LL Bean is a great value. So take your pick I think anybody would be happy with either one.👍
Nice looking rucksack Wade 👍🏻😁 are you going to use that instead of your Frost River? … or when do you think it’s better than your old FR 🤔🏕🌤🔥 Atb to you my friend 😎
Hello Tom! No this wont replace the FR and it's honestly not as good quality. It's just a smaller, lighter option for me and others. Me and my Isle Royale Jr will be together for many I hope! 🌲🍻😎🔥😀Take care!
G'day ... As always an excellent review. LL Bean continues to do a lot of things right. I still order from them because they still offer traditional type stuff at reasonable prices. You might remember I ordered a pair of wool whipcord pants ... man do I love them! At $80 they were a steal, a competitor sells them for $250, ouch! That pack has been on my radar for some time, glad you pointed out the short length of strapping on the bottom. Kind of odd they would come up short on those. Customer feedback maybe could improve that?
G'day mate! This is my first LL Bean product. Comments from yourself and others helped me out a lot in forming an opinion on the company and their products. It seems they do a lot of things right! I think I will email them about the bottom straps though, that's a great idea to let CS know about it. Thanks for watching my friend I appreciate your support!👍
Thank you! The Isle Royale is in another league I have to say. Much tougher and much more expensive for sure, about 5x more expensive! The Bean is lighter though, great for lighter loads or even urban travel. Thanks for asking, it's a great question👍
Everyone interested in this pack should know that it is MUCH smaller as of the 2019 model. The side pockets are not big enough for a Nalgene. It's overall shorter, narrower, and shallower than before. Customer service is rude and unhelpful. There is however a separate laptop sleeve and electronics pouch, because outdoors. Oh, and the stick it to you again by keeping the price at $89.
Looks like a good pack! What did it cost, if you don't mind me asking? Like the color, would go well as a kit with the new Cimbrer bush craft tarp that he designed... Thanks for sharing! ATB👍🌴😎🌴👍!
Yes it would look sharp with the Cimbrer tarp! I paid $103.00 Cdn shipped to my door all in. I thought it was a great deal. It was on sale %25 off btw.😉
I'm not too sure, it's been awhile. Just to let you know , they have now made that pack smaller, it is not identical to the one I reviewed. Thanks for watching 👍
Hi Wade, thanks again. Seems like a great Rucksack. By watching your Videos i asked myself a few times now, if and how you protect yourself in the woods from bears? Are you prepared in any way? Or isnt Ontario bearcountry? Unfortunatly in Germany we havent wild bears. We had one animal once a few years ago and they shoot him...the medias called him a troublebear and gave him the name "Bruno", even before he was killed i think. It was very sad in my opinion.. Anyways, thats why I ask myself how you canadians handle living side by side with this beautyful animals. Looking forward to your next upload. Greets from Bavaria
Thanks for watching and that's a great question. Almost all bears will avoid human contact unless food is involved. That being the case it is very important to keep a very clean camp. Food should be stored well away from your sleeping area. I do these few things as well as carrying bear spray which is a very useful deterrent. I may actually cover this on a future video as it has been asked before. Take care my friend 👊
Hi Wade, after seeing your video I tried to order this bag but did not find it in this color !! can you tell me where I can find it in this color! thank you in advance .....
Hi and thanks for watching! I think that they run out of stock sometimes but replenish when it comes available. I ordered mine directly from LL Bean. Try again in a few days or email the company perhaps? It's worth the wait. Take care my friend!👊
Hi Wade. I have this pack and love it. It's become my go to pack for day hikes and I'll even use it for overnighters every now and again. It's held up really well over the last few years. My only complaint (much like you pointed out) is the bottom straps being a little to short. I was able to find strap extensions on Amazon for about $6 though. The buckles on the strap extensions match up perfectly with the buckles on the bottom straps of the ruck. I left the link below. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004N623UW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have used a 30l pack for multiday trips but you really need to pack light. Something in the 55-60l range serves much better. Time of year also plays a role in how much gear you need.👍
@@Woodswalker1965 I live n Florida, so normally not super cold here, I have a Old Allice pack with frame (like the external Frames), also a Hidden woodsman pack, I may try to convert to fit a alice frame, though they look like they may make a version fit a frame soon per there website. I do like the 2 pockets on side and one in back
@@Woodswalker1965 also you said the Straps on the bottom are a bit short, have you tried adding extension straps, just bits between the buckles . Example. www.amazon.com/OP-TECH-USA-Extensions-X-Long/dp/B007NRCUXI/ref=sr_1_9?crid=U6T36R5QIIGL&dchild=1&keywords=backpack+strap+extender+with+buckle&qid=1614827574&sprefix=backpack+strap+extender%2Caps%2C186&sr=8-9
Could you measure the height of the pack for me? I'm a bigger guy and I've bought (and sold) a few packs that were too small for me, using the whole shoulder strap just to get it on, leaving little or no padding at my shoulders and the sternum strap was up in my throat. Specifically, the distance from the top strap attachment to the bottom of the waist belt (where it attaches to the pack). Thank you!
If this helps at all the website recommends it for people with a torso length of 21 inches or less. I will try and measure the pack later on. Take care👍
I usually wear Vidda Pros from Fjallraven with a merino/ poly blend base layer. I do have a mil surplus wool pant I wear in very cold weather. Thanks for the question!👍
@@Woodswalker1965 thanks for info I'll take a look! I have a few other fjallraven bits of clothing and they work great. Have you ever owned one of their hiking packs and if so how do you rate it? Many thanks :)
I haven't persky owned a Fjallraven pack other than the Kanken, or is a pretty good day pack. I have a few friends who use the larger packs and they swear by them.
Yes I would but.....the latest edition of this pack is smaller than the one I reviewed here. The side pockets are smaller, a canteen won't fit. Just to let you know about that difference. Thanks for watching my friend 👍
Be careful with the drawstring grommet at the top of this pack. I have a few LL Bean packs and one of them has the exact same drawstring closure. Within one year of usage (about 10 day hikes), the grommet ripped out of the pack, under normal usage. My advice is to hold the grommet in place with one hand while pulling on the drawstring. Thanks for the video!
Thanks a lot for the advice. That's the voice of experience right there. I may look at a way to reinforce that area perhaps. Take care and thanks for watching!👍
Oh boy that's a tough one. The Savotta is TOUGH! I think the LL Bean is tough enough though. They are so different but I prefer the LLBean as a bushcraft pack. Thanks for watching and commenting, that was a great question!👍

Thanks buddy, wow that's a lot of changes but nothing that will change the usability of the pack. Let me know how it works out for you!👍🌲🍁

Still digging the bag? Its near top of my list. Light hike and camp bag. I like the ability to carry axe/hatchet.
Hey brother, thank you! If you wait for a sale it's a very reasonable purchase. I got mine at %25 off.🔥
Take care my friend👍
I'm inclined to Frost River. But that is a really nice pack.
Frost River is in another league my friend. I love my Isle Royale Jr. Thanks for watching 👍
Hey man great review. Comprehensive and great camera angles. Well done.
Thanks very much for watching and I appreciate that comment. Take care man!👊
I love that pack, I bought mine last year, I have many other more expensive packs, but I keep going back to this pack, and my Cannae Hipster, bot excellent. Dave Canterbury has tested and abused this pack, he couldn’t find anything wrong with it, except some of the smaller buckles on the pack.
That's awesome, I'm glad to hear it's one of your favorites as it's becoming one of mine as well. Thanks for watching and for sharing 👍
Nothing wrong with those smaller buckles. After 2 years they have been holding up strong.
Nice pack, and nice look at it.
While I love traditional stuff, the lack of padding and hydration capability has baffled me for decades.
That ruck makes a lot of plain practical sense.
It does Randal for sure. A padded shoulder strap is such a simple nice feature! Take care my friend 👍and thanks for watching!
Great video, and the backpack looks good. I have been looking for a traditional backpack with better shoulder straps etc.
That's a great price. I got mine at %25 off so with duty and exchange it was still a great deal! Thanks for the input buddy!👍
Very nice review. I have been looking for a ruck in this capacity that has a few modern features but that still has a traditional layout. Thanks for passing your thoughts on the pack along.
You are very welcome, and thanks for watching!👍
Nice video Wade, I do like the look of that pack. Cheers!
So far I'm liking it too! Thanks for watching my friend 👍
That's a great deal on a superb pack. Thanks for watching👍
Really nice pack, looks like it should serve you well for many years
I think it will as well. Thanks for watching my friend!👍
I have the same exact pack and love it 👍
Cool that's great to know. I think this one is a winner! Thanks for watching 👍
I love LL Bean stuff and I would have bought that pack but last year I bought the Hidden Woodsman Pack that is similar.
The HW is very similar, you cant fo wrong with that! Take care and thanks for watching!👊
Nice pack, might check into it further.
I got this at %25 off so wait for a sale! Thanks for watching!
Good to hear that you are the same height I am and this pack fit you perfectly! Good review I'll keep my eyes open for this pack !
Thanks for watching and keep your eyes peeled for a sale. I got this one for %25 off which is a bargain! Take care 👍
Great review of a cool pack, thanks !
Your welcome, thanks for watching my friend!👍
She's a looker. Hard to resist for sure.
I like it a lot! She wont replace my FR but a great little pack! Take care Doug!
again thanks Wade but sad day today ,Joes dog Scout passed thus sad day for Joe Robinet and all us bushcraft followers
I'm not gonna lie, I cried for Scout. He was a real special guy. Not very often do truly great companions like him come around. Take care my friend. 👊
Nice pack. Let us know how she works out as I’ve considered this as a day ruck as well. Thanks!
Cheers
I will keep you all posted! Thanks for watching buddy!👍
8:05 I died laughing for some reason
Haha I can see why I guess!😂
21 lbs!!! I wish. I swear my load out it 50 lbs. I gotta improve my skills. 😩😩😩
Looks like a great ruck!
Thanks my brother! Take care!👊
Nice review thanks.
You're welcome!👍
Really beautiful backpack. Love it :-)
Thank you my friend, take care and see you on your next video!👊
Nice rucksack for sure.
Good morning Sir. I like it a lot so far!👍 Thanks for watching!
Nice looking rucksack Wade 👍🏻😁 are you going to use that instead of your Frost River? … or when do you think it’s better than your old FR 🤔🏕🌤🔥
Atb to you my friend 😎
Hello Tom! No this wont replace the FR and it's honestly not as good quality. It's just a smaller, lighter option for me and others. Me and my Isle Royale Jr will be together for many I hope! 🌲🍻😎🔥😀Take care!
That’s. great to hear Wade
Enjoy your Sunday 👍🏻🌤
😀👍
Great looking pack. A modern version of a modded LK35 pack 👍🏻
Yes very similar, just a classic example of a great ruck! Thanks for watching!👍
LL Bean £78 pounds here in the UK in black or charcoal. 👍🏻
Not a bad price. I paid $103.00 Cdn. Shipped to my house, duty ,taxes, all in!👍
Wow, £78 is delivered all paid 👍🏻
Yours works out to £58 at current exchange rates !
sure love the look & color you chose, Wade ! Betcha She'll pass with top marks ! ATB T God Bless
Time will tell my friend, so far so good! Take care and thanks for watching 👊😎
Totally buying one!
Awesome, let me know how you like it brother!👍
Great video Wade. How does the Bean stack up to the Isle Royale?
I've heard that recently. It's too bad really , this a classic that should not have changed. Thanks for watching👍
What is the size originally from the 2019 model?
@@booboobearbaby the new ones are smaller. If there is a dimension on it that could be made smaller, LL Bean made it smaller.
Woodswalker 1965 that is a great deal indeed..good bargain hunting! Thanks for sharing! ATB👍🌴😎🌴👍!
👍
Nice looking pack !!
Thanks Steve, so far so good!👍
Nice looking pack
Thank you my friend, I like it a lot! Thanks for watching!
Hello, do you know what the L.L Bean company calls the color of your continental model backpack? , Thank you so much.
Take care my friend!👊
thanks Wade ! yes it's worth the wait!!
How about a 5yr review? Im thinking about getting one but not sure
Actually if you want to buy one buy a older version, they have changed it making it smaller and smaller pouches. The new one I don’t recommend.
@@Woodswalker1965 thanks for the input
Nice pack!
Thanks my friend!👊
Thanks for the link my friend!
Good review😀
Thanks I really appreciate you watching!👍
it is 33 Liter, I see you said as a Daypack load out, what Liter do you recommend for multi day/Week load out,
I have used a 30l pack for multiday trips but you really need to pack light.
Take care👍
So I took a measurement for you. 18 inches from the bottom of the pack to the top of the straps.
Thanks @@Woodswalker1965!
nice day pack
I'm loving it so far. Thanks for watching 👍
Bit of a random question but what outdoor trousers/ hiking trousers do you were in the winter for snow use? Many thanks :)
@@Woodswalker1965 okay no worries. Was thinking of investing in one. Many thanks again for the info. Keep up the good work!!
nice pack and video.
Thank you for watching and for your kind support!👊
Would you still recommend this pack? I'm looking into a well made bushcraft overnight pack when I'm not using my main muli-day hiking 65L.
Yes I would but.....the latest edition of this pack is smaller than the one I reviewed here. The side pockets are smaller, a canteen won't fit. Just to let you know about that difference. Thanks for watching my friend 👍
@@Woodswalker1965 good to know! I'll go check out in store then rather than going online. Thank you for letting me know that
Cheers!

😂😂
The newest rendition of this pack comes with smaller side pockets...
Yes I've heard that unfortunately. Too bad it's a great pack. Thanks for watching!
put extensions on them problem solved, there easy to make
Very true, I was just pointing out a issue with the pack. It's not a dealbreaker for sure. Thanks for your input my friend!👍
Hi Wade, thanks for the review. What in your opinion would be the pack to have between the LL Bean or the Savotta Jaeger?
Oh boy that's a tough one. The Savotta is TOUGH! I think the LL Bean is tough enough though. They are so different but I prefer the LLBean as a bushcraft pack.
Thanks for watching and commenting, that was a great question!👍
I like it
Thanks for watching my friend 👍. It's a good piece of kit.
hello
Hello, thanks for watching my friend 👍
