yeah i got one :) they are ajustable for depth as well set it to 6 on the top and bottom left and right bar thats the best depth but hey you can make it deeper if you like but for a small house they are the best
I just bawt this exact model and hopefully this will work out of the box unlike the C2960S-TL-S which had 1-16 defective ports. Wondering if that is a known issue with those switches.
They all have issues but I can' t think of anything major. A quick google search should reveal any big issue people are having, if any.
recently bought a
hey pal , what SFP for single mode Fiber cable ?
so put it in the corner of a room near a window if you can small 19 u frame you dont need an enclosure or you will run into heat problems just open sided they go for around £150 on ebay
You are correct about not putting it in a closet without ventilation. However, setting next to a window can be problematic with the sun shining on the equipment. If you check out telecom sites, they are usually windowless because it just add more load to the A/C system.
Nice video. Please in the future power it on and show the fan volume and maybe do a throughout test!!
When you said "fan volume" I thought you were asking about the volume of air the fan moves. But, then it dawned on me that you are asking how loud the fan is. The Cat3750 is very quiet. You are correct, I didn't test it thoroughly in this video.
Network Engineering Video Blog good to know thanks!
I have a question, when you bought it, did it come with a ios image? I'm afraid to buy a switch that won't work, and also which ios image you need for the 3750x switch?
Great question! Absolutely do NOT buy any Cisco product that does not have a working IOS image WITH all the licenses and features you want. If it is a reputable seller, they will be able to verify and prove that the switch you are looking at has everything you want. If a seller throws his/her hands up and claims ignorance, then make sure they have a 100% + shipping costs return policy.
@@NetworkEngineeringVideoBlog woooow thank you so much sir!!!! just the information I needed! which Cisco switch would you recommend me for a home setup? I'm a ccna student but I want a cheap 24 10/100/1000 gigabit switch not only for testing
@@gastonhitw720 That's a tough question! It's like asking what kind of car I would recommend :-) Stick with the 3 "P"s... Ports, Performance and Protection (aka security). If you're looking at Cisco products, I don't suggest anything older than the 3750.
@@NetworkEngineeringVideoBlog thank you, I also have another question, do you need to own a license ot use the sfp ports? I've read this www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/routers/ncs5xx/ncs520/configuration/guide/csa/16-9-1/b-csa-xe-16-9-1-ncs520/b-csa-xe-16-9-1-ncs520_chapter_011.pdf
which says "If there is a license and a 1G SFP is inserted in the chassis, ports Te0/0/4-Te0/0/7 will come up in 1G
mode only"
I need to use at least 1 sfp port for a media convert I have
@@gastonhitw720 Based on that pdf link you posted, yes. I refer you back to my original answer "Absolutely do NOT buy any Cisco product that does not have a working IOS image WITH all the licenses and features you want. " If you need 10G or 1G SFPs then make sure they are installed and working when you buy it.
I’m curious about the fan noise, perhaps you can shed some lights ;)
It is not loud. I would compare the noise level to a PC fan.
Does it cost a lot, in electricity, to run?
If it's a Cisco product; probably. The enclosure is the only thing "green" about their products! But, if you are curious, you could look up the running amps in the 3750 datasheet and calculate how much it would cost you in amp/hours to run.
I usto work with Cisco products, I am CCNA Certified, 3 times, but since retiring, I let the exp. date pass. I remember how loud our network closets would be, when we used Cisco 3750’s, especially when stacking 4, or even 8. I never did the power calculations, we had another guy on the team who did that,. All I knew, is that they usto Dim lights in certain locations. I should have paid more attention to what the power guy did. I wanted to add two to my home, more for nostalgic reasons, but to also use them as my switches for my SOHO, but I think they will cost me more to own, than to buy. So i will try netgear or Dell managed switches.
Thanks for reply
@@mtandiz According to this Cisco 3750 Technical Spec: www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3750/hardware/installation/guide/3750hig/HIGSPEC.html, the 3750-48TS’s power consumption is 75W and it dissipates 256 BTUs of heat per hour. According to www.wikihow.com/Calculate-Kilowatt-Hours: watt-hours per day = 75W x 24 hrs/day = 1800 watt-hours per day. Divide that by 1000 gives you Kilowatt-hours per day (kWh): 1800/1000 = 1.8 kWh per day. Looking at my electric bill, I pay $0.133 per kWh. So, I pay $0.133 x 1.8 = $0.24 per day to run the 3750. Or, $0.24/day x 365 days/year = $87 per year to run the 3750.
Also, don’t forget the cost to cool 256 BTUs of heat per hour. According to: vmguru.com/2011/06/how-to-calculate-electrical-costs-for-cooling-and-power-consumption, 1000 BTU/h is approximately 293 watts or 0.293W per BTU/h. So, 256 BTU/hr of heat *0.293W per BTU/hr = 75W of heat. Makes sense, right? The 3750 is using 75 watts of power and generating 75 watts of heat. Since we’ve already done the cost calculation for 75W above, we know it will cost us another $87 per year to cool the 3750. Our total cost to run the 3750 - 24x7x365 is $174.
I’m not sure I agree with vmguru’s cooling calc but it’s a good “back-of-the-envelope” calculation to give us an idea of what the costs might be. A better calculation would need the A/C unit efficiency, i.e., how much power the A/C unit uses to cool 256 BTUs/hr of heat.
@@NetworkEngineeringVideoBlog Removing the 75W heat only matters if you use it in a cabinet with a lot of other equipment. If you use it in SOHO environment, a single 75W heat source is neglible, even in summer, you don't need AC for that.
@@gabiold Yep, we’re just having fun with all this back-of-the-envelope stuff.

probem is u have know how code these. wich what takes 3 years school ,
i guss i lucky haveing add i learn code them in days, have 6500 720 sup with wism2 card now getting it all work togather was not fun. first ios had huge probems after cisco gave me all updates to program it was simple throw cisco did not understand why i used some the code in fack they had no clue what code was for, it seams that cisco could not get certifice athencation to work so they just turn it off now i could told them how fix it , it was not a hard probem. in fack i coded the swich to look over certifice errors
throw what i want is off load all certifices off wism card and load them on swich throw found no way to do this,
and by way i set up 10 gig home network for under 400.00 is it worth it no, if u look at speeds trasfer and how bussy the swichs are u find one thing they run under 1 pecent even in gameing. fiber vr copper one better then other less probems with fiber, it is faster over 100ft 25 ft dosent madder use sheald cable anything less then 5 ft
waste of time, instead of playing around actual hardware, half of video reading datasheets and discussing ebay stuff.
