I took apart a rubber stamp, added a finial spray, and painted it. Glued it together and added some felt or a paint spreader on the bottom. Works like a charm
Hi Mary, love your videos. My hubby fixed me the tool for making better impressions with my Misty. He went to Lowe’s and got at staircase knob and attached it to a chair coaster. Works like a charm! Nice on the pocketbook too! I know I’m showing my age by saying pocketbook, do they even say that anymore?
Hi Mary love your tips. For a funnel use thin acetate packaging (or shiny coated card), about 1.5x2.5inches. Take bottom corner up to the top and roll. Adjust narrow size to fit your bottle , secure with sticky tape and you have an instant disposable funnel.
Great video. For my “stamp presser” I use furniture adhesive pads onto a clay squirrel my son made in high school years ago. I also have a weird ceramic rabbit he made as well. He’s grown, and moved out, but each time I go into my craft room to use it, I smile. I have 4 artistic boys)
For pressing down on my stamping platform, I made my own. I got a cheap wooden round draw handle (from the hardware store) and a cheap packet of felt stick on feet (for putting on the bottom of chair legs so they don't scratch the floor) and stuck the felt on the bottom of the handle ( already sticky so no glue needed). I have had it for about 5 years now, and it is still going strong.
My hubby made my pressure tool for me with an antique doorknob I found at an antique shop. He first attached it to a square piece of wood, then attached the felt furniture pad cut to the same size. I asked him to make it square to help in those corners on a stamping platform. 😊❤️
Miss Mary, I saved a good sized wooden block that originally mounted a red rubber stamp, from when I unmounted that stamp, for my pressure tool! It fits nicely in my hand, and after I glued felt onto the bottom, it slides well and allows me to apply even pressure. Totally free for me, as I had the felt from my mama, and I had saved that for alcohol inking. TFS!
Hi Mary, I was glad to see an update for this kind of video. I just watched one that was that was 2 yrs. Ago. How nice of you to think of a video that helps so many of us crafters out, the ideas are so useful!!! I left A question on that video about the Aleen's Tacky original glue and the percision tip bottles. I had trouble getting that glue to flow through those bottles. I would appreciate any advice you or anyone else may have. I was just working on this the other day with no luck. I really don't want to change glues because I really like it. Thank-you Mary and to all the viewers that share their tips with us!!! 100% grateful!
Thanks so much for the kind compliment and encouragement. The only thing I've heard of others suggesting is to add a bit of water to it to make it flow better. I don't use that glue so I can't be more help than that.
Hi Mary, terrific video thank you! For the DIY stamp pressure tool I bought a $1.00 store white board eraser. No work or assembly. Just get to pressing!!! Happy Holidays, Jan

I can’t believe tie die powder works like pigment powder. Those acrylic pens from the beginning are amazing. I’m still working on Christmas cards. Another awesome tutorial. Tysm.
I made my pressure tool using a wooden base from an old wood mounted stamp. Covered the bottom with a felt furniture slider and then glued a large round wooden curtain finial on top of the wooden stamp base. I have used it for about 5 or 6 years now and it is still holding up.
For the magnetic glassboard, I put a silicone mate (like something you would use for a toddler's placemat) on top so the paper and the stencil doesn't slide, then put the magnets on top. I don't have to hold anything down. Works like a charm
Hi Mary. After watching your video, I purchased tie dye powdered. What an incredible tip! It takes so little and the colors stay so vibrant which was one of the issues I have with mica powders. These are incredible and I cannot wait to make more backgrounds. ThNk you so much!

I use a glass bottle topper (i think the jar was from a jar of hard candies my mom bought) and put an old sock on it and put a rubber band around it to secure it. The sock can be removed and thrown into the laundry. Works great as a stamp presser tool!
Mary I so Love your reviews! Saves me from guessing. Before my Lung Cancer I went to courses once a week. Now I am more home bound and hard at 63 yrs old. I always was Hobby Lobby, Craft centers so I could see products. Now I count on you. Thank you, thank you, Thank you!
Thanks Mary! I ordered the tie dye paints, shaker bottles and the grey mat. I cant believe I spent $50.00 on H2O powders (from Amazon, no less) and I can get ALL colors in die dye in for $11.00-$16.00! Of course, I will never have to purchase them again, but that’s OK. And to get the shimmer. a 28:18 ll I have to do is add Perfect Pearls, since they already have the fixative them is water activated! Blessed Christmas and Happy Hanukkah!
My most favorite type of video. You always have some winners, I used to use the oil pastels when I first started teaching and we didn't have all the things in those days. They were great for shading and making posters etc......Now there is so much more available, but they are still good. Happy Holidays to you and the fam.
@@kiwipommiegirl You know I think sealing them was a good idea. I might have used hair spray at the time, but I think you can buy fixatives now. They did smudge, so sealing them is a good idea.
Thanks Kerrie.I used some glitter card stock for Christmas cards this year, found the glitter came off so easily- I sprayed with hairspray which fixed it!
Thank you Mary! That was great and I love your honesty about the stuff that wasn't what you expected. You are fun to listen to. I'm headed to Amazon to get a few of the things you tested.
Thanks Mary for all your great tips in this video! I made my own thingee for pressing down my mistee with an old wooden stamp block with a handle & covered it with felt.tfs.
It's was fun playing in your science lab!! Great idea with the tye-dye although I do love Lindy's. Thank you for all the awesome ideas! The masking paper is the best!
I made the pressure tool with wood circles I bought from Hobby Lobby, furniture circle felt and topped with a large crystal knob (also Hobby Lobby). Gave as a gift -so pretty!
For the glue going into a fine tip bottle... I got sick of fighting that battle. A simple (not weirdly shaped) condiment bottle is AMAZING! Mine is a 14 ounce expert grill bbq sauce bottle that was a few dollars at Walmart. After I easily fill my bottle and put the lid on, the nozzle fits perfectly in my fine tip bottles.
I've been using the Avery labels for masking paper for years. Love them! I have bought 1 popular brand of masking paper and got another in a kit and was disappointed with both. I always go back to the Avery.
I made a stamp press from a handled glass lid i found for 50 cents at habitat and a left over furniture slide that was a layer of foam covered with thick felt. E6000 bonded slide to the glass. Very inexpensive and works great for arthritic hands. 🎉 as always another great video with great alternatives. Ty
Here in Australia i followed Therese at Lostinpaper and made a stamping tool with an old Moccona coffee jar lid and some felt sliders from Bunnings. Made them all for my friends. Amazing tool.❤
Smiles again with Mary. Filling the tiny bottles - hilarious! Now, the larger shaker bottles (yes, when all else fails - read - ha ha ) well, I believe that those will work really well in the art studio for glass frit. Make my own in 5 different sizes (recycle glass - waste not - want not). Those will work great for that & with the nice shaker top to boot. Thanks.
Hi Mary, you know I love this kind of video!! This hobby can get expensive and when you are on a budget you need all the help you can get!!!LOL!! Thanks so much!! Hope you and family have a blessed and Merry Christmas!!
I made my own stamping platform pressure tool with a wood stamp block and some super soft smooth material and then added a larger cabinet know to the top to hold onto the tool. Works great for me.
Thank you for such great ideas, Mary! I was amazed at the tie-dye powders. I first of all never knew they came in powder form. I guess I just always thought they were liquid. Obviously, I have never done tie dye on fabric. LOL I might have to check on those, however. I have one bottle of Nuvo powder that I got as a prize from some event, but that's it. I have used it once, but have occasionally wished I had other colors. Never could justify the expense or having to find storage locations for them, though. So thank you for that experiment. :) And cyan has an "s" sound at the beginning - like SIGH-an. Anyway, thank you again for sharing these. Take care, & I hope you have an awesome day! :)
Thank you so much. I didn't know they were powders either; that's why I love all of you for sharing such great ideas with me. And thank you for the correction, I had no idea how to say it. :)
For my pressure tool I ended up finding Mushroom Salt and Pepper shakers from walmart, filled them with rice and closed up the holes on top then sealed them up and put felt on the bottom. Now when they sit on my desk I just have cute mushrooms sitting around.
Might have been! My packets look exactly like yours and I’m in the process of putting them in little shaker jars. I love craft “alternatives” and I learn so much from you
When you want to get glue into a little bottle, but have no little syringe: squeeze the bottle, gently offer the glue so it covers the top, and slowly release the pressure on the bottle. It makes a vacuum and sucks the glue into the bottle. I have a little funnel, which barely fits in the top of the bottle, but I can load it up with glue and "pump" the air out and the glue in. Nice video, I like those Sharpie pens
Thank you! My DIY hack for the stamp pressure tool - I hunted in the grocery store for a heavy glass jar with the right size and shape for my hand (horseradish jar worked for me). Emptied it, added some glass marbles for some extra weight (coins would work too) and glued a “mover’s glide pad” in the jar top. The only thing I had to buy was the jar. I like the tool to be a heavier weight so I have to press less.
I found some small shaker jars that might be useful: ljdeals 1 oz Plastic Spice Jars with Black Caps and Sifters for Herbs, Spices, Powders, Spice Bottles Great For Travel, Camping, Kitchen, Restaurant and more, Made in USA, Pack of 12. Danielle
Hockey puc, yes I made mine with 2 layers of thick felt I had, and a jar lid that was comfortable size for my hand, and attached the felt with hot glue. it works amazingly! thanks for the super tips, off to look for that avery paper tomorrow...
I’m recuperating from Covid and needing good videos to watch and I realized that I have to stop watching your past videos again because I have ordered way too many much today lol. Ps I started watching from 5 years back Ugg I must stop now.
@@marypolancodesigns Thanks. And thanks for all the awesome content you share. A group of us crafter were chatting the other day and we were talking about how many of the videos nowadays seem like infomercials instead of how they use to be. And we all agreed that you have been consistent over the years with really looking out for us. We truly enjoy your videos!
All in one video? Oh surely you jest! And here I am thinking you’re Mary and not Shirley. No more Rock, Paper, Scissors? I must inform the villagers below and send the news on Avery! By the way; rock, paper, scissors is a Japanese game. We lived in Hawaii when my daughter learned to play it. She pestered me to play Jun, Ken, Po and I didn’t know what she was talking about. I’ve loved this video. ❤. After 2-1/2 months in the hospital I am finally home. I’ve got to create some degree of order so I can resume papery stuff. In the hospital I drew on every piece of paper I could find just to stay alert. I learned there are many people who don’t know about watering watercolors. I’ve got another 5 weeks in this cast, but I should be able to do a nice organizing of little things. Wait… it’s nearly all little things.
@ I understand. A trip to the bathroom is exhausting and I’m just referring to the walk. Once I’m in there I look for things to do so I feel useful until I’ve gotta my heart to stop racing. Today I was able to do a few extra things, but nothing amazing. I’m talking about folding clothes. It took 2 hours to make spaghetti. Where’s all that help I was promised?
I need to know more...lol this sounds fun! how do you do it? I might not see this reply but if you feel compelled to email me, I'd love to know. :) mary@marypolancodesigns.com
Thank you so much!!! I am already using several of these (learned from your previous videos), but I love having all the info in one place. (You're so organized!) Will definitely be looking up the Avery labels. Sadly, I've almost depleted my stock of Accent Opaque. 😔 They do have some available on Amazon but the price is now prohibitive. I'm sure you've mentioned it several times before, but can you remind me of the brand and gsm/weight you are using for your card bases? Thank you for all you do! 🩷
@@marypolancodesigns Sorry! I thought you were using a brand other than Accent Opaque because they have been out for some time (that's why I asked about the gsm/weight - so I would know for the other brand). Accent Opaque does have some available now, but at double the original price. I really like it, so I'll continue to be patient and see if their prices drop soon. 🤞 Thank you for the fast response! 🩷
As far as tiedye powders, I believe from reading the descriptions, these are the equivalent of Rit dye powders, not Procion dye as most tiedye powders are. But as always, masks are advised when shaking out the powders as they are toxic to lung tissue. I’ve used Rit dye powder for crafts and the liquid with a dip pen for years. As a Master Dyer and textile artist, I prefer Procion for natural fibers (like cotton watercolor paper) when doing projects on fabric because the Procion sinks deep and becomes part of the fiber where Rit is surface deposit only.
Too bad the RULERS @ o.d. 2:30 weren't designed as c e n t e r i n g rulers; as they're designed -- and with such strong magnets built in -- seems like it would be really difficult to position either one to begin the measurement e x a c t l y at the edge of the cardstock. At least as centering rulers, (to my mind) it might be easier to place them as needed? Just a thought ...
Did you use any water on the Avery sheets? Like, did you watercolor using the Avery paper to mask your balloon, etc.? Thanks so much for trying these out & letting us know what is good & not go good. ::)
@marypolancodesigns, do you find the wax tip tool dries out or loses its stick? I bought a refill for the Crystal Katana ($9 vs $30+ for the whole tool), but because it didn't have a cover, it seemed to dry out and would not pick up after a while. Not sure what I should have done to bring it back to life. I've tried the tools with the putty (nope!) and the Uchida jewel picker (also doesn't seem to do well for anything heavier than a sequin), so still looking for something affordable. Thanks for your advice!
The one I showed in the video us pretty much identical to the Katana but only a few dollars. Mine took 2 years or more to be replaced but I do keep it in a drawer so now I'm thinking that's why. No dust gets to it.
Wonderful tips as always Mary! I have metal butterflies and I want to paint their wings. Any ideas what type of paint to use and a marbling technique to blend inks on this surface? Thanks!
Hmmm metal...I'm thinking using a few different embossing powders to get that wonderful marble look. Silver/gold/white. Add sprinkles of each on the butterfly, then heat and swirl with a toothpick. I have no idea if that will work on metal but sounds cool.
Thank you! Since I’m not an “artist” and it’s for cards, I think I would prefer to try and work with the cheaper one too! I have pan pastels to play with to do similar backgrounds like you did. 😊

Thank you Mary! That was great and I love your honesty about the stuff that wasn't what you expected. You are fun to listen to. I'm headed to Amazon to get a few of the things you tested.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for letting me know.
@@marypolancodesigns I ended up ordering the large silicone mat, the jewel picker and the sand eraser. Yay!
It's always a joy to learn from you, Mary. Thanks BUNCHES for sharing!!
You’re so welcome, I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks Mary for all your great tips in this video! I made my own thingee for pressing down my mistee with an old wooden stamp block with a handle & covered it with felt.tfs.
That's a great idea, I'm going to have to try that!
Five Below has a silicone mat like the grey one you showed
Awesome thank you!
It's was fun playing in your science lab!! Great idea with the tye-dye although I do love Lindy's. Thank you for all the awesome ideas! The masking paper is the best!
Thanks so much! This was super fun!
I made the pressure tool with wood circles I bought from Hobby Lobby, furniture circle felt and topped with a large crystal knob (also Hobby Lobby). Gave as a gift -so pretty!
That's so clever, I'm going to have to try that!
Ooooh yes like the plastic ketchup bottles from dollar tree
Thank you!!
Mary I look forward to your tutorials and this is one was wonderful and I needed to see. Have a great holiday with your.
YAY, so glad you liked it, I hope you have a great holiday season too!
I've been using the Avery labels for masking paper for years. Love them! I have bought 1 popular brand of masking paper and got another in a kit and was disappointed with both. I always go back to the Avery.
Great to know, thank you! I'm so so glad I gave it a try!
Mary, keep up the good work on these videos. I love them!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you're enjoying them!
Thanks so much for taking the time to save us money and give us ideas for all the goodies we MUST HAVE!!
You are most welcome; I'm so happy they could be helpful!
Love watching your videos as I chill in the evenings in bed, fabulous inspiration ❤
Yay! Thank you! That's such a great compliment thank you!
Another brilliant video from Mary and her cheerful, always informative, science lab. 😀🇨🇦💜
You know me, always looking for ways to save money and test new products for you! hehe Yes when I get into the "lab" I'm there for a bit.
Ty
That is SO clever! Thank you for sharing!
Your ideas are always so helpful! Thanks for sharing ❤
You're very welcome!
Love your videos, especially the money saving ideas. Your energy is positive and we appreciate you.
Oh what a great compliment thank you so much for that!
Here in Australia i followed Therese at Lostinpaper and made a stamping tool with an old Moccona coffee jar lid and some felt sliders from Bunnings. Made them all for my friends. Amazing tool.❤
Brilliant, I love that! Thanks for sharing
Mary your a genius.Love watching you
Oh wow thank you so much for this!
Thanks.
I was on the struggle bus with the glue. Hahah
😂😂 I thought your doodle was Africa! 😂😂 I love to see new product videos, I get lots of ideas. Thanks 😁
Haha...it does look like that.
Great video! I love the tips on the masking paper and the dot markers. Very helpful!
I'm so glad thank you so much for letting me know. :)
Hi Mary, you know I love this kind of video!! This hobby can get expensive and when you are on a budget you need all the help you can get!!!LOL!! Thanks so much!! Hope you and family have a blessed and Merry Christmas!!
You are so very welcome! I hope you have a wonderful holiday too!
I bought some of those magnets and was blown away by how strong they are. I also bought the longer ruler. I'm looking forward to using them.
Right?? So strong. I didn't expect that
@@marypolancodesigns me either!
Love these type of videos! Thankyou for sharing!
My pleasure!
Always enjoy and appreciate these videos! Mind blown with the tie dye product! Thank you, Mary
Thanks so much, that was a surprising one for me too; so glad I tried it.
I made my own stamping platform pressure tool with a wood stamp block and some super soft smooth material and then added a larger cabinet know to the top to hold onto the tool. Works great for me.
Brilliant, thank you so much for sharing
Brilliant job Mary. Thanks so much for sharing. Happy Holidays to you and yours. xo
Thank you so much, and to you and yours as well. :)
Yes Mary I do have the mono sand eraser. I was just thinking it would be cool to have it in that pen form!
I love it and find myself using it a lot more than I'd like. haha
Lynn Le Bel I always love your alternative craft supplies! Great video Mary! Thanks for sharing!!
My pleasure thanks so much for letting me know it was helpful
Thank you for coming up with some great products and ideas. I enjoy your videos. Merry Christmas!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it, and Merry Christmas!
Another awesome video, Mary!!
Thank you so much for this!
For my pressure tool I ended up finding Mushroom Salt and Pepper shakers from walmart, filled them with rice and closed up the holes on top then sealed them up and put felt on the bottom. Now when they sit on my desk I just have cute mushrooms sitting around.
Beee-Rilliant I love that so much
Might have been! My packets look exactly like yours and I’m in the process of putting them in little shaker jars. I love craft “alternatives” and I learn so much from you
Thank you so much for this! That means a lot
Super tips, thank you for sharing Mary! ❤ Merry Christmas to you 🎄
Same to you! Thank you!
To get glue into tiny bottles use a syringe! Natasha Foote has a how to video. Thanks for the reviews and ideas!!
I think I mentioned that in the video but didn't have any on hand. Boooo 😆 I gave up.
Brilliant thank you!!
Wow that is brilliant! Thanks for sharing this.
I have folund some mica powders meant for wax crafting, and I use that for highlights and adding to glue etc.
You can add the mica powder to the tie dye powders and really make them like Lindy’s!
That is such a great idea to use for highlights!
WONDERFUL idea I have to try this!
Danielle
Oh, that's a great idea! I will have to try those out!
Hockey puc, yes I made mine with 2 layers of thick felt I had, and a jar lid that was comfortable size for my hand, and attached the felt with hot glue. it works amazingly! thanks for the super tips, off to look for that avery paper tomorrow...
LOVE this thanks for sharing!
Thanks for all your ideas!
You’re very welcome!
I’m recuperating from Covid and needing good videos to watch and I realized that I have to stop watching your past videos again because I have ordered way too many much today lol. Ps I started watching from 5 years back Ugg I must stop now.
I’m so glad you're finding my videos helpful (and I hope you feel better soon!), but I can see how that happens! 😂

So glad you're home and thanks for this super sweet comment. I hope you feel better and better every day
I spent a month and a half in the hospital just recently. Then I can't use my arms to even push up to stand. I have so much organizing to do.
Great ideas in this video, thank you for sharing them with us.
I’m so glad you found them helpful! Thank you so much!!
I used a furniture pad glued to a wood block and a drawer pull put on top.
Brilliant, thank you!
I made a pressure tool with a yankee candle glass lid and felt glued to the bottom. From trash to tool!
That’s amazing! What a great idea!
Excellent video Mary
Thank you so much!
Incredible stuff. Thank you, Mary.
My pleasure thank you so much!
Loved this video and the bracelet ❤
Thank you so much; I completely forgot it was going to be in the frame but hey, maybe someone else needed a reminder to be amazing! :)
I LOVE your bracelet & thanks for the video! :)
Thank you so much! YAY!
Thank you Mary. I always learn a lot from you!
You are most welcome! I'm so glad they could be helpful! That's a great compliment
Hi Mary...I bought a dry erase, eraser for a couple dollars at Walmart to use as the press for my stamp.platform
Brilliant, love it!
Thank you so much 😊
You're so welcome!
Great money saving ideas and tips Mary 🥰 I love your samples and your ideas ❤️ thanks for sharing your creativity Hugs xx
Thanks so much Joan! Hugs!
Great video today. I’ve been having lots of fun with my tie dye powders too!
Was it you??? Thank you if so. What a great find!
I use glue dots to make enamel dots.
I need to know more...lol this sounds fun! how do you do it? I might not see this reply but if you feel compelled to email me, I'd love to know. :) mary@marypolancodesigns.com
Those markers look pretty amazing.
They are so so fun!
I use the weights I listed in the description if you want a closer look. 80 and 100lb
Thank you for this lovely message!
Thanks for sharing your expertise on this! I really appreciate it!
Thanks, Mary! Great video
I appreciate that, thank you very much!
@ have you tried the new paper friendly Ohuhu markers? I’ve been eyeing them
I don't want to.just ignore bracelet. I love it!!!!
Hehe...YAY! Me too
Did you use any water on the Avery sheets? Like, did you watercolor using the Avery paper to mask your balloon, etc.? Thanks so much for trying these out & letting us know what is good & not go good. ::)
No not this time. I didn't do any water coloring just blending and the marker dotting.
Thank You!
You are most welcome!
Thanks Mary!
The yellow cover Strathmore is their series 300.
Thank you
Use a Dollar Tree eraser for white board. Works great with misti
Yes! I showed this in action a while back and it's super cheap
What fixative do you use for your oil pastels?
I see artists recommending this one: amzn.to/3W11Of9
It's a bit pricey so I'm going to experiment with the one I have: amzn.to/3W3uRyq
Thank you! Since I’m not an “artist” and it’s for cards, I think I would prefer to try and work with the cheaper one too! I have pan pastels to play with to do similar backgrounds like you did. 😊
Clothes dye powders also work .
Awesome thanks for this share!
Where is the ❤button? 👍 just doesn’t seem good enough! Mind blown about the packing tape and diecut sentiment!😮
Awww what a great compliment thank you so much!
Mary another amazing video- speaking of your bracelet- where did you find it?
I got it from Amazon, it was one from this set but mine were darker colors
amzn.to/3BkSHPj
@ thank you for sending me the link. I need something like that now
❤ thank you
My pleasure!
