My Korean isn't good enough to tell this story in Korean, but I thought you'd find it funny! I learned English by watching Japanese anime online (in the original Japanese!) with English subtitles! The English fan-subs were usually out two to three weeks before those in my native language (if they existed at all) so I powered through and learned English that way 😂 Apparently learning English via animated movies/shows is the way to go!
Your japanese is wonderful but your English is very natural as well. You sound b2 at minimum. Anyone who met you would be surprised if you had difficulty understanding them.
Thank you so much for the kind words🥺 I think I can understand most of what people say when I have conversations with them, but sometimes I struggle to understand live TV shows because they speak so fast🤣. I also find it difficult to understand lines from dramas about law, detective work, or medical topics. I hope I can understand those kinds of drama lines someday too🥺
I once asked ChatGPT what percentage of words came from China, and it said 60%, and only 5% of other languages like Japanese, so I was surprised to find that you had an easier time with Japanese. I also noticed Japanese sounds somewhat similar to Korean compared to Chinese, so I had to revisit my research. It turns out that 60% is from classic Chinese, and hardly any Korean words come from modern Chinese. So now I guess one could say that the Korean language is the caretaker of classic Chinese. Why Chinese has abandoned their own classic roots is really mind boggling... gosh, there could be a whole podcast on what happened with that. :)
classic chinese is not abandoned. we just made spoken chinese shorter and easier. and spoken chinese is so easy comprared with written chinese. we use different voca. spoken chinese is only a very small part of the whole language. 😂
There are lots of words that use Chinese characters in Korean and lots of those Korean words are pronounced similar to Chinese ones but the problem that makes Koreans difficult to learn Chinese is the grammar structure😭 Chinese don't have markers like Korean does and the order is quite different too🥺

I’m so impressed with your English, especially knowing that you only stayed in the US for a year
Thank you🥺 I think staying in that country doesn't always make us fluent in that language. We can learn and practice the language wherever we are👏✨
재밌는 주제들에 대한 영상을 만들어 주셔서 늘 감사합니다 ❤

Thank you for sharing your tip! Wow! I think your affection towards the anime made you practice reading English! Animations are very good materials!💛
