I used to run 1 of these back when they first came out. This was the most amazing machine of its time. I would still use this machine if I could. It was simple but was very efficient and effective, no DEF bullshit that's forsure.
@bigtractorpower My brother and I run a 1992 John Deere 9400 combine with a 643 corn head and 922 flex bean head harvesting wheat, corn, and soybeans on our 800 acre farm in West TN. We love our Maximizer combine. It has done a great job for us
Great machines when they came out and if properly maintained, a lot cheaper to operate than the new machines with the sensor and def issues. The switch from the titan 2 series to the Maximizer series was huge. I was young and stunned at the differences.
Does it have the 9600 motor on it? Ours had the bigger motor from factory...it was a beast in corn. Ran a 2007 893 corn head. Sold it in 2022 with 2400 hrs.
I remember the 9600 cut lots of acres of soybeans with it. We also ran a 9860STS combine later down the road. Now we run 2 combines.....1 Deere S790 and a Case 9250 both are great machines.

Fun fact. The first 2 Maximizer to leave the R Moline plant made it 13 miles when they struck an overpass. The grain bin extension where just over 14 feet tall. They where being transported to the Farm Progress show.
Haven't really dug in to studying what all the differences was between the 00 & 10 series but always had great respect for the maximizer machines! Haven't bought one yet but keeping an eye out!

I thought about buying a clean one here in Idaho it's listed for $28k I got a ih 2188 instead for $18k I learned on the JD 95 when I was 12 years old back in 1998. Those were long itchy days
The 95 is a classic. I grew up around a 95 EB. I have always like their yellow cabs. The 9610 and 2188 were monster combines. It amazing how far combines have in the past 20 years.
Exactly. Compare the header height and speed between the 9610 and the 9650 in this video. The 9650 guy looks like he knows what’s going on. Sure, the 9610 guy probably doesn’t need that foot and a half or whatever of stack he’s leaving attached to the roots, but I have a feeling that he’s pushing too much material into the combine at that speed. It’s just being blasted in and pushed over. Gonna need a rebuild or repairs much sooner than the 9650 here.

I work for john deere been working for john deere 17 years now after I left the farm for 30 years as a heavy equipment farmhand operator I ran tractors and combines um a equipment setup technician for deere now
Need a little help understanding what is going on: Is this Corn Harvester taking the kernels off the Corn Cob and if so when does the Harvester unload the corn that has been harvested. I did not see a truck driving along side the Harvester to receive the kernels when the container is full.?
The combine is taking the corn cobs off the corn plant, then taking the kernels off the cob, and sending the kernels up into the grain tank. It shreds the bare cobs and the leftovers of the plant out the back. When the grain tank is full, the combine then empties into a trailer so it can be hauled back to the farm and stored. Sometimes the farmer will have a tractor pulling an auger wagon drive beside the combine when it dumps so the combine does not have to stop harvesting to empty the grain tank. The tractor can then dump its load of corn into a truck at the edge of the field. But that is seen the most when the farmer has more than one combine, or much bigger fields; something this farm probably doesn’t have.
Maybe it's just me but I love and would rather pay for equipment made of metal, today's equipment has not just followed inflation it's gone through the roof and instead of plastic, company's now call it POLY...😉. I'll be using a R42 with a 6 row corn head and 18' platform for beans. Crazy how the largest combine made is now the smallest in just a few years. My little class 4 machine is no comparison to even this class 6 machine thats almost the same vintage
I’m pretty sure the 9610 had cast iron rolls (likely worn smooth) that really don’t chop the stalks. It appears that the 9650 has knife rolls that do cut the stalks somewhat.
When you say a bushel of corn you should explain what a bushel of corn is a lot of people look at this but everybody doesn't know what that mean and you should show a little diagram of what a bushel of corn is it'll give whoever looks at this an idea what you're talking about

How far combines have advanced in the last fifty years is perhaps the greatest illustration of industrial progress in human history.

Always good to see the older equipment still out working.

Those heads never left a very clean cut looking field.
I can’t take anything away from the Maximizers as far as reliability and value is concerned. Case IH had the performance though. I respect them both.
My main wish and desire is that that poor farmer would stop right now and add new stalk rolls to that poor 893!!
I feel like it wouldnt hurt if he slowed down a tad too!
I came here to make this comment. Tale tell sign of the stalks getting pushed over likely means the stalk rolls are worn out.
This was on my family’s farm!

Seem like he’s pushing the corn stalks over quite a bit, driving too fast compared to his header speed or plates set too narrow. Only a comment 😎
I fully agree with you. You have to let the knife rolls do their job. That field will be a pain to work later.
I had the same thought, he needs to slow down. I guess makes a better video,

It would depend on if it was a chopping corn head and if it was switched on otherwise it would just be the crimping of the rollers.
