Major General VPS Bhakuni, VSM, was commissioned into the Dogra Regiment in 1981. He has rendered distinguished service of 37 years in the Armed Forces. The General Officer has participated in various operations including Counter Insurgency operations viz., Operation Pawan (Sri Lanka-IPKF), Operation Rakshak, and Operation Parakram in Jammu & Kashmir. The General Officer has performed the duties of Colonel General Staff (Operations) of a Corps in Western Theatre and MGGS (Info Sys) and Chief of Staff of the prestigious 15 Corps in Srinagar when Kashmir was under floods in Sep 2015. The General Officer assumed the responsibility of Commandant, Selection Centre South in Jan 2016 which is tasked to select officers for Army, Navy, and Air Force till his retirement in June 2018.

raising voice doesn't necessarily mean you're influencing the group. Giving everybody a chance to put a valid argument is equally important. An officer is a one who not only put up a valid argument but also have the patience to listen what others are bringing to your table. Moreover maintaining the sanctity and decorum of the task is so very important. It's not a debate. It's a group discussion. Behave accordingly.

I am really fortunate my group had sensible people in, who listened to each other and gave each other a chance. People should be taught to behave sensibly or atleast maintain the sanctity of the opportunity given. You are appearing to become an OFFICER AT LEAST FIRST BEHAVE LIKE ONE. We did that may be that's the reason 4 of us were recommended from the same group of 8 that too all repeaters.

I think the person who is sitting in first from the left he is the best in this gd
Group discussion doesnt test anything, in real life discussion meeting you will have seniors and juniors and will have order in which everyone speaks and put their viewpoints. Decision in milliatry are taken by 2-3 higher ups and not 5-6 captains and majors doing a round table conference. Most of this goes in civilian life too you always have a order and ownership.
Those 2-3 higher ups that make most of the decisions also emerge from this place, if you are not able to handle such small scale discussions, then how can someone expect you to handle them at a level where your nation is at stake, these very candidates will lead the army someday and become those 2-3 higher ups that you are talking about, then at that time how are they supposed to make decisions if they can't even do it here

I dont know what is the point of creating chaos in gd.
What i have realised is that...suddenly interrupting with harsh and loud voice ... immediately makes one unpopular.
So if my voice is loud....i will first slowly sneak in with lower voice and as soon as i grab attention... I'll speak fully.
I am really confused about GD.....whether it is the process where we discuss about some issue in a calm way.....or any competition who says more point within a short time....someone pls explain I'm confused
Now imagine yourself as an officer and you got a mission..u have to discuss it with other officers and get ur point across. Its about bring constructive and contributing points to the group..more like progressing the group rather than proving your point to the group. Im not experienced person but this is what i observed in most gd

Pak and Indian army has same procedure of selection as I have experienced it.
Sir I have one genuine question if someone does not have an idea of the topic given then what should he do?
Then keep silent for first 5 minutes and listen others point of view carefully. you can gain some idea about that topic and then speak with confidence after making some minor corrections

I agree that law inforcement is significant but , more than that and before that we got to have individualistic approach towards this because unless and until we have good thoughts and sense of morality there within us I don't think so any law inforcement would help the society in the long run .
