- Our project explored the history of Asdee, from the first recorded settlers along the river & how Asdee got its name. We have records of settlement from research carried out by DCU. As the river flows into the Shannon Estuary, we tied this into the abundance of wildlife to be found on Littor Strand, where the Asdee river meets the Shannon.
We were delighted to have Colum Walsh from Lawpro come out & do a kick sample to determine the water quality in our river. He also described the role that various insects play in the food chain & the life of the river. We found this particularly interesting & hope to develop it further with the local school children.
Prior to this project, we had no short video illustrating the history of Asdee or the variety of wildlife that makes their home along the river & estuary. We hope this will be an informative & interesting video for children & adults alike in our community. We hope it will instil an appreciation of our history & the wildlife that depend on our river to survive.
We got the services of Eoin Kennedy to record a variety of camera & drone footage to go along with the voiceover of the script he developed. Eoin recorded Colum carrying out the kick sample in the river & he then edited the pieces into a digestible 7 minute video. We will launch the video by showing our community on Wednesday evening, August 16th.
