although i agree that there is something intuitively distinctive about to want in re. to believe or to doubt, i think the construction i want + obj (it, you etc) + infinitive is just a peculiar feature of English grammar here. the grammatical structure doesn't in itself seem to show any particular differences between want and believe. the romance languages, for example, use the same structure for sentences with want and believe. credo che vs voglio che in italian, for example.
