Congratulations to the winners! Customer bought a machine at auction, he called and said the tilt would just drop randomly, after looking at the valve I noticed the lift and tilt spools were swapped. The lift spool has the ports for the float option and because it was in the tilt part of the valve the tilt was actually going into float or "dropping".

Great video. Tilt spool not coming out . Spool moves 3/8”. It’s a 773. Maybe a broken seal preventing it to slide ? Maybe lightly tap out with hammer ?
Your machine may have a spool lock solenoid on the front of the valve body
I completed changing out the seals and Orings. I had spool locks on my valve and my fuse box was attached to the seat plate but was able to move enough to access. BTW I left arms down and it worked, but better if you can raise. Thanks for the video, it definitely helped me through the project!
So glad the info helped!
Same here. Doing them now. Did you remove the spool locks or just power them temporarily to remove the spook?
Thanks for spending the time making the videos I have a 843 wish it was this easy to work on you can hardly see the valve from the front or the engine compartment not fun at all, my problem turned out to be a chunk of plastic or old hose holding the relief valve open
Yea, I found that out on 873, leaked like a sieve. You are right on that tool, you can do it without it, wish I had, lot easier.
Getting ready to do this on my older S185 this weekend. Any other maintenance on the Control valve you would recommend while I'm in there? certain O-rings, etc.? Should I do the seal on the Aux? Currently have fluid gushing out of the Lift Spool.
very good video, iam haveing a problem with the lift, tilt works good, lift jerks does not move slow, you can push on the pedel and then all of a sudden it jumps, there is no slow lift, after watching , i cant imagine its the 2 seals that you put in. any help would be appreciated. thank you
The seals would not cause that issue, you can schedule an appointment at our website www.4tetradgroup.com and we can try and figure out the problem.
I just replaced the seals, plug and O-Ring on my lift spool and the seals on my tilt spool successfully thanks to you and your videos. I really appreciate what you are doing sir and I will definitely hit you up if I need any extra assistance with my 853. My channel lock pliers were a little to thick to use your trick with to get the detent balls in. We had to find one of the darn balls about 3-4 times in a messy garage but we finally got it done. We ended up making a tool by bending the tips of some cheap needle nose pliers a little and then using a hot glue gun to hold a couple of small nuts parallel at the width of the cylinder. Worked perfectly and I thought that I would pass the idea along. Thanks again!
Hey just wanna say your vids are awesome always help me a ton. I was wondering why is my hydraulic pressure switch behind my hydraulic canister leaking on my bobcat t595? Thanks
Awesome video very helpful! I replaced the seals on the tilt an lift spool a year ago on my 863. However now my pedal will stick in float mode.. I also replaced the spring an bb's as you did in this video. Any tips or advice on this issue? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you for this information. Really appreciate it.
Can you do a video on how to set up the steering linkages. On same machine. Love your channel
I got a bobcat 863 that is leaking the tilt valve, are thoose the same seals or do they need different ones?
great videos my man, you are a great help since the dealership here in Iceland are quite the dissapointment
Should be the same seals
I have a leaking spool valve on a T250 with actuators. Do you pull the valve or do the seals in the machine? If in the machine, how in the world do you get to the backside???
Great video. I have a 753, do I need to extract the hydro fluid from the reservoir tank before removing the spool valves.
Not necessarily, however oil will slowly leak from valve while the spools are out.
You didn’t say anything different about the front seals so I am assuming the same concept applies with the ridge side of the seal being away from the retainer (opposite direction as the rear seals but same concept)?
Hey i have a late 90s early 2000s 863 bobcat and at first my lift quit working but when i would operate peddle for the lift the mast would tilt i have done some research and asked a few people all the can tell me is valves now would the detent ball and spring be causing this or is it deeper in the valve body
Dag nabbit, I had a terrible time removing the Spool Valves. Question, you showed yours without the Fuel Filler Hose, I had to remove mine in order to pull the cams out. Question (2) Why would anyone put a hole in the center of the valve cover and drill a screw to seal it. Question (3) Can someone put the tilt and the lift cams valves in switched locations and will it work. I believe my Bobcat (I am no expert, just happen to be an electrician with abilities) had them installed switched. I don't know, but maybe I should have done more research, but then, how in the hell will I learn the correct way of doing it? Oil Well, it sucks.
first, thank you for the most informative video about this, that i have been able to find!! Can you tell me the PN of the kit you purchased, that had the spring and two balls with it? I dont see them in the amazon kit in the link. Thank you very much, in advance
These can be ordered from Bobcat or Allskidsteers. Spring part number is 6592107 and ball part number is 6592105.
HA HA !!! i just did this job a little over a year ago on my 773. i wish i had seen this video then. it was that bad but it wasnt as easy as you made it look. did you get the 10 emails yet? another great video. thanks.
very good thank u
My bobcat when I lift the loaded bucket makes an ugly noise, what could it be my friend?🤔
773
Whats the answer?
do you know if the spools can be removed the same way on a 753 im getting ready to fix my leak. it looks like the safety valve in front of the control valve assembly on the 753 might be bigger and in the way. thank you for all the helpful information.
Yes the 753 can be done the same way, it's a little tighter because of the shorter wheelbase and your right I believe you will have to remove the manual lowering valve.
@@tetradgroup great, im going to give it a go, you make it look far easier than it is tho im sure. thank you for all your wisdom
This is great info
Thanks!
Thank you so much for the support!
Great stuff priceless 😮
What do you normally charge to do this job?
$600-$800 depending on machine and options
My left arm valve will not slide out is there a keeper ring somewhere see clip of some sort thank you
Not sure what that is
Yes the left arm spool valve 763G series the spool valve will not slide out like you shown your video not sure if there is a C clip somewhere
Control valve
@@Edsoutdoors the G series probably has a spool lock valve on the front of valve. It would be a two wire solenoid and use a 1" wrench to remove
@@tetradgroup that was it! Thank you very much!
I sent u an email
Hydraulic fluid is being lost into the chain case.
Causing machine to shut down. And traction control to lock up
How does it make it into the chain case tank?
@@timhills5695 It doesn't. It gathers in the "floor" beneath the valve body and runs to the ground/floor through a hole to the rear of the undercarriage behind the rear axel.
For how long it should stay working more lime for how long thats this last works ? Mine only stops leaking for about a year and then starts to leak again please if you can reply back to me that will be great .
Great video. My bobcat tilt has been leaking for years and every time I go to fix it I don't do it because it looks like a nightmare. I'm a 25+ year ag tech and I didn't even want to deal with it. After watching your video I tackled it and it wasn't bad at all. Thank you so much for the help!
Thanks for this video.
When I tried your method, I did successfully get the balls on the spring in the holes but my channel locks were too wide to let me put the cap on.
What worked for me was to use a hose clamp. I had a narrow one and I could use that to crank the balls into the hole and then I pushed the hose clamp with the cap until I could undo the clasp completely and withdraw it.
Slicker than snot!!!! here is the bad news, on my 753G 01 no way to get the spools out with out loosening the entire valve body and tipping it forward to about 30 degrees so there was enough clearance to get the extra long spool valves on my unit. the longest spool was 14" long OD..... I had to remove the fuel hose fill top and fold the fuel fill hose down underneath the hydraulic valve body..... thank you so much for these vid's.....
Thanks, great educational video. The spring ball installation sucked. I ended up using a zip tie to bring the balls into the shaft on the spring. Yup about 4 times to get the balls and spring to cooperate. Thanks again...
Hi i have a Bobcat 863 i have a leak in my lift spool it started as a small amount of oil and now i have to put a quart of oil in it just to use it for a few hrs ,it is set up a bit different hard lines in the way can you please if you can any tips ? my symptom is as i float down or go up sometimes it jerks and bounces a bit like its starving for oil Thank you my man
Can I reseal lift and tilt spool seals on 753 with out removing the whole valve body?
On my 2001 753G I had to remove the top bolt and rotate the entire valve body 30 degrees forward. to do this I had to remove a boat load of fittings and electrical plugs. the longer spool was 14" long and just would not clear the pump. I did both spools. not difficult but felt like heart surgery... keep track of exactly where each part and nut/ bolt go..... and label the plugs... I followed his suggestions and it made it much easier to work on....
Here's an update, just removed the front section of my Hydraulic Valve where the rubber boots are located, Truly had a hard time removing the (4) 3/16 allen bolts. Tomorrow I will tackle the rear section of the valve bodies. I did not use a battery operated ratchet drill. I did it with standard allens set. Plan on purchasing a ratchet, it was a killer. I do not believe no one ever did any type of maintenance on the used Bobcat 753. One question, I received a bill of sale and was told that the unit was own by another person but seldom used it. (True or not) I am trying to find a way to receive more information on the unit. I am unable to get any VIN information. ANY SUGGESTIONS? Where can I find the vin anyway?
Good morning Mate thank you for all the support you do with your videos the lift Pedal gets a little stuck at the beginning when I press on it on my S300 is this have to do with the spool hope you get a chance to reply back soon thanks
I've got an S185 that would leak from the control valve body where the lift spool sits. I replaced the seals, but now it only lifts about halfway (or less) when under load... What'd I mess up?..
I’ve only just watched this video and I can see the issue that the previous grease monkey has reversed the two spools tit for tat, 🤦♂️ be interested to know how it operated. Lol
This is such a great channel very informative .You walk us through all of the repairs and this is very helpful to guys like us who work on our own equipment.Give this time and I see this channel exploding with veiwers
Mine has orange seals but they sent me green ones on my 753. Which is the correct seal because the green in thicker.?
How to solve luffing problems of hydraulic operated bob cart?
Excelent video, did you get the 10 emails? Im piecing back together an 873 f series and have the tandem pump running for the first time, I have a leak and this video helped alot, Thanks
I have an 853, and it took me 4 hours to get the handle assembly out, due to rusted bolts, etc. Now, I can't get the 4 screws out that hold the spools in, because of numerous metal and rubber lines in the way. I am going to have to remove the whole valve, but Bobcat says there 2 bolts holding it on. I can't find either one. Any suggestions?
Check out Bobcatpartsonline.com Enter your serial number and hopefully it'll give you an idea of the breakdown on where the valve is mounted. 853 with a weird year and they had several different serial number breaks. Enter your serial number and it should show you the correct breakdown.
Mine were so covered in crud I couldn't tell anything apart. I used a 1/4 in socket or nutdriver when practical with a 3/16" hex bit in it. Sometimes working blind, but I was able to get it done. I found that hitting the entire assembly with an air gun was required. Without it I couldn't get the hex bit in the bolt, even after wire brushing
What causes a bobcat to have jerky controls only on one side?
Am I able to ask if maybe you could shoot me your opinion on where I should start to fix my bobcat s300 with a error code05-22 I think it’s my acs but how to pinpoint where to diagnose my problem
Low charge pressure. Is the main drive belt in good condition? Do any functions work?
I don't know the answer but I really do enjoying watching and learning from the videos. You do a great job of explaining everything. Thank you!
Can you externally test a Control Valve for a Bobcat. We already made up a guage with a T fitting to check each line. I'm wondering if we bought a small pump with a reservoir could we test it outside of the Bobcat? I assume all the return lines would just combine to the reservoir, use the guage on the port we are testing and plug the rest. What do you think?
I have never tried to test outside machine. It really need to be in machine and all lines hooked up to properly test everything. What symptoms do have or what are you trying to test?
I have a bobcat743 the tilt comes down by itself on or off it started when I put New seals on the tilt cylinder...no leaks on the spools or hose.dont know what to do thank you
You resealed the cylinder and it still drops or started dropping after you resealed it?
i have a bobcat 743 and the tilt spool valve when start the machine will leak and trout out the seal any suggestion please thanks...
Sounds like it is time for a spool seal.

Good day kind sir. I just wanted to say thank you so so so so much for taking your time to upload this video/edit/record.ive watched this probably 20 times within the last 24 hours because I had a leaking valve spool on a 763g I just bought last week. I've never worked on a valve body that big before so I was very intimated by the job. This video helped me so much also the actuator 1 you posted helped alot as well. Unfortunately the only problem I came across was all the videos online for spool valve seal replacement are for mechanical valve body's. My 763 is a g series so it doesn't have rods and the detent ball and spring. I ended up having to remove all but 2 lines om the valve body, the 2 bolts holding it to the frame, and then had to turn it just enough because no matter what I did I could not get enough clearance to un screw the actuators 3/16's screws. I do wish you had a video on that before I did it because it was gruesome. Or is there a way to do the valve seals on electric over hydro valve body without disconnecting everything ? I even went to harbor freight and bought every style 3/16s hex bit/wrench/socket to try an get actuators out and I couldn't. I spent more time trying to find a way to get them out then I did disconnecting entire valve body.
Sorry for the long text but perhaps it may help someone in the future with a g series.
Thank you for asking this question… I’m also wondering the same thing as mine is a 773 g series with actuators..
Matt, I have a 2001 763G with 550 hrs on it...YUP. I have hydro pissing out the center of the cap for the spool. Are you saying that when you replaced the seals that it was not as easy as it looked for HowIDidit?
When I thread the spring assembly on to the lift spool valve as per the service manual with the correct 0.6 inches of set screw extending out as per the diagram in the service manual the spring is almost fully compressed. The photo does not show a nearly fully compressed spring and I do not want to install the assembly until I verify if this is normal or not. Please respond.

@@tetradgroup Thank you pictures just sent
Since it didn't have the float detent springs I believe besides leaking the float function was inop.
Awesome videos!! Question, the amazon link to the seals only has 2 of the blue seals and no new spring and balls. Are the front two seals the exact same as the rear ones? (6683274 I think?) also I think the ball part number is 6592105 and the spring is 6592107.... I think.?.
Great video!! Having just made the tool to install the spring and balls, I'm about ready to
attack my 853. I'm curious to know how many hours were on your machine when you
replaced the seals. Today will be disassembly and prep work while waiting for the
parts kit to arrive. Thank you so much.
At 22:25 you say to be careful to not push your "other spool ".out ??? What other spool? Also, you cant do this on an 853, because there are 2 large hoses in the way, behind the rear spool covers. Plus, you can't get the screws out because of hoses and pipes in the way. Nice thought, though.
I was trying to say spool seal, not spool, just misspoke. Yeah the 853 is a completely different animal and unfortunately this process won't work on all models
@@tetradgroup Thanks. After 7 hours, I finally got the valve out Had to heat all fittings, and cut one hose/ Bobcat engineers are certainly NO friend of mechanics.
Where did you get the seals? Bobcat wants $50 for a set. Something that cost them a nickel apiece to make. Ridiculous!!
It was like $28-35 for my set at a dealer, no special pricing.
@@jeremyblair2041Thanks, Jeremy. I will check, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
Load check valves will not hold pressure with the spool removed. They are upstream of the spool.
I have a 2018 S70 that is making a whinny noise from the lift pedal. Some times is not there it’s only when I use the lift pedal a few times. Some times when I’m lowering it it just keeps going down even after I deactivate the pedal. Do you think it could be the seals on the lift spool?
Hello
Love you
Your video tutorials
I have S100 Bobcat loader ,was working fantastic until last week when decided that the auxiliary pipe won’t respond when trying to use grab bucket , the bucket opens but won’t close and to close I have to release the pressure by loosen one the ram pipe and that way it will close by pushing down by hand then Tightening the pipe back it will open but it won’t close any idea what could cause this ?
Spool seals leaking from the rear, ever had the lower spool shaft,2 ball bearing in cup bind when tightened,i am having that issue?
Thank you so much for the videos. I recently bought a 863 and had leaking hydraulic fluid from this same location. Going to tackle it this weekend and also watched your video on the duetz timing belt change.
Just found your channel and I'm enjoying it. I built my own detent ball tool with a hole saw, an angle grinder and a bolt for the hinge. It was some years ago and the pliers/tool was out of stock. It's great that you are sharing your knowledge with people who do their own repairs. I think you mentioned using a vacuum cleaner to hold back hyd. oil. I used that trick for years and was able to save the company the price of a number of Terrazzo floors. Do you use an adjustable bleeder valve in your adapter?
I have a bobcat S 70, that the lift arms and curl bucket go up but under a load, they will not come back down. Something internally is failing. They will come down though unloaded. Any ideas on where to start looking? What state are you in?
Really enjoy these older machines I had an older 763 it was such a beast with its snow bucket such a fun machine
Love the video man! , I run a small concrete company and we have a 2000 873… I’ll be watching all your 873 videos for sure haha definitely made me feel better about this project.
is there any way you could help me figure out where the right side drive motor case drain hose connects to? I have watched your video in hopes to be able to see it, but no luck. I bought a used machine that was half torn apart, i bought the service manual and parts catalogue and neither tell me where the case drain hose connects to. The parts diagram makes it seem like it connects to the T fitting on the hydraulic valve where the bottom manual lift release valve hose goes into. Thank you!
I have a 751 with a Puegot motor do I have to pull the motor to change the seals? Thanks for your help in advance. I have learned a ton about my Bobcat through your UA-cam videos.
Thank you for the video gracias...
I assume that I can do a similar repair to fix the detent on my 743's aux. hydraulic output. I think the float function is also bad so I will do all the spools and both detents. Thanks!
Thank you for this viedo, had to do the same job on the same machine , great help , . My hat off to you sir
We used to refit and tighten the front boot ,seal retainers and seal. before refitting the spool, that way you don't need to worry about the seal when you refit the spool because it can't go anywhere 😉
Thank you for the videos! Our aux system doesn't hold pressure on our grapple. If we open the grapple it slowly closes, and if we close it tight on a load it'll open. What could cause this?
@hightechredneck_0566 seals on the coupler are bad, probably the female coupler.
@@tetradgroup oh the flat face couplers?
@@tetradgroup you don't think it's the aux stem valve spring?
@@hightechredneck_0566 I don't
@@tetradgroup thank you so much for your response! Huge help.
Terrifically instructive video. My tilt spool seal is leaking on my 863. I am so thankful to this video, that am inspired to make a video of my fix to complement this video.
When I did my 773G I pulled off the right side tires and wheels removed the side covers and did the whole works from the side other than the cross bar and the tilt pedal link arm. 1 hr and 45 minutes later I was sweeping the shop. Done deal. Parts were 22 bucks at bobcat.
I noticed my seal kit came with different color gaskets for my Bobcat 753 F series. The kit came with 2 black, 2 blue, and 2 orange seals. Where do the black and orange seals go? Also, do the auxiliary valves have a spool that needs to be rebuilt also?
Great video I appreciate the time you take to do these things. I was able to fix my 763 f series I bought it used and I had to start fixing all the leaks. One issue I cannot fix is the auxiliary backhoe hydraulics sometimes but I can get them to work but it requires manipulating though wires. My biggest problem is that after buying the shop manuals parts manuals I cannot determine which solenoids control can you show me how to override the solenoids for the backhoe operation
I'm not sure bypassing the controller would be a good idea because the solenoid is controlled by PWM with 10VDC max. You could try to run 12V to female coupler solenoid (Right side of control valve) but it might burn it up after a few hours.
@@tetradgroup I was not aware that it was a 12-volt DC powered solenoid. Coming from the PWM. Once I find out where that item is and what the acronym means. I will get back to you. Thank you for that insight

You probably have spool lock solenoids on the front of the valve. 1 inch wrench to remove solenoids
By the way thanks for the back up advise , it was the spool selonids holding the control vavles in all done no leaks , dont stop doing vids man ,there all helping someone out there.thanks agian Mark , finestbobcatservices..
That's the spool seal needs the black o rings on the back side where you put it in or just in the front?
Also part number for the pliers ?
You make it look so easy. A repair like that would take me a couple of days!
How come this does not play? I wanted to watch it a second time.
I have a S185 that everything runs great except for the tilt, the bucket etc. will slowly tilt back down. Has any one had this issue? Thought it might be the Tilt seal is bad?
I agree, tilt cylinder seals would be a great place to start
What happened to the missing spring and detent balls 🤔
rust dissolved..?

Awesome video, thanks for being a lifesaver. I have a bobcat 773 and it is under strain and lift and curl won't work unless I pull up the red release knob. Then no strain and it works as it should.
