Well you also aren't making as much torque and if you noticed in my video the OEM cat already had some small spots where the cat was melting from the excessive heat that a Stage 1 - E85 tune makes. I'd also consider this upgrade for the health of the vehicle long term.
I'm jealous of how much more accessible that downpipe is on the S4 than on my RS3. Curious to see if your tires hold that extra torque down low on the street. I think it'll be a big improvement on the track though!
I know it's an old video and he's on to Stage 3 & beyond, but for everyone concerned about the mid range power 'loss', keep in mind he is running E85, which IE states is 'close to or beyond the fueling capability of the OEM fuel pump', which they say would be solved by installing an HPFP. So with an HPFP, we should see consistent HP and TQ gains throughout the entire RPM range.
I only ran E65, not E85. The fuel system had plenty of head room. The fact it lost some power in the midrange doesn't make much sense from Stage 1 to Stage 2 seeing as the only part that was changed was the downpipe and the tune is supposed to be pretty much identical except for cancelling the CEL caused by the high-flow performance cat. By running their Stage 2 HPFP tunes you'd make even more torque and one would hope the torque would stay stronger for longer.
@@VancityAudi Thanks for the reply! Sounds about normal for E85 in the US being closer to 65% ethanol on average, seasonally dependent. Keep up the great content, your videos have helped a lot in building my S5!
@Isaiah I'm not in the States, lol. I'm in Vancouver, Canada. I blended my own ethanol by mixing E100 with our 93 octane pump gas to an E65 blend. I saw optimal performance on the IE tune on E65 and nothing higher. I'm sure with the HPFP installed you'll make more peak torque and hold higher torque for longer. I think that's an excellent idea for you to do a before and after comparison on the same day, on the same fuel and just a tune and HPFP upgrade.
It appears like I may have made a mistake in something I stated in this video. Apparently this downpipe will not fit a full frame turbo and will only fit hybrid turbos. Thank you to @Sheban for pointing that out to me!
I own a B9 S4. On the same dyno, I gained 30hp, made a lot more torque far earlier in the rev range when I fitted an I.E Downpipe and moved to 034 stage 2 from stage 1. Both 93 tunes. I run the I.E intercooler and Intake. It also holds on to the power far longer at the top of the Rev range.
Were these dyno runs on the same day? One after another? Same fuel in the tank? And not on a Dynocom dyno? If so I'd love to see these results if you could send them to me via email or a DM on social media.
stupid question, when flashing a new file, isn't it advisable to drive it and let it adapt? and then bring it back on the dyno. Everytime I flash my cars the on-road logs looks quite horrible...after a good few kilometers and few WOT...the logs looks much better. also, when you dyno your s4 in manual mode, does it automatically shift at redline? reason why i ask because i see it jumps from 4th gear to 5th, then right after 6th gear? are you perhaps chaging gear manually when it auto shifts?
Yes, the car will adapt. That's why we never do just one dyno run. We perform a bare minimum of 3 runs per file to ensure the car has figured itself out. If we see the car is still fluctuating quite a bit we do more runs. It automatically shifts to 5th when it hits redline. The dyno operator immediately then shifts the gears in the car and that's why you see that happening.

@@Rommellollis as much as I had hoped for a bunch more power I wasn't surprised at all. IE clearly states on their marketing of this product and of their tunes that Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunes make roughly the same power and that a downpipe sees gains once you go with a larger turbo.
One thing I didn't see mentioned was E %. That can make a big difference. Also what duty cycle/ how close are you to maxing out fuel system? Possible boost is being pulled back some because fuel system is maxed out?
It actually doesn't make a difference. I mentioned in my review video that through my datalogging, dyno testing and performance testing, my car was able to achieve its best results on E63. @@VancityAudi i guess I can understand that with stock turbo and in that power range. @@jackweisenburger on this platform it's as simple as it is fueling limited. I've never seen a custom tuned, stock turbo B9 S4/S5/SQ5 perform any better than an OTS tune so I wouldn't be able to comment. What I can say though is with the OTS calibrations having to compensate for blends anywhere between 60-85% ethanol, you can only push it so far. Some people live in extremely cold climates so if they run straight E85 and it's super cold, they'll need way more fuel than someone that is in the heat and running an E60 blend. The necessary upgrade to squeeze more out of the stock turbo would be a HPFP and that is coming to market soon from a couple of the tuners.
Odd. What is the selling point for the Stage 2 if it provides no power? Is it just to clear any CEL from modifications, or what? Never heard of a stage 2 that provides nothing.
Even on stage 1, full E85 is already maxing out fueling so you’re right, there really is no point. On straight 91/93 or E blend, stage 1 is not fuel limited, so jumping to stage 2 does produce gains.
Sorry to ask if I missed it but is this on stock injectors and stock fuel pump? If so, will you be upgrading those as well as the hybrid turbo in the future with this S4? No idea if it meets emission standards. We don't have any in BC, Canada that I have to comply with. You'd have to contact IE for that info. Wait what? You you installed a intake, intake elbow, charge pipe, intercooler, and downpipe... went from stage 1 to 2 and only picked up like 10hp and 25ft tq??
Sadly, that's impossible to tell from my testing because when I first went to a Stage 1 E85 tune, the conditions were much better for making power. It was significantly warmer when I was fully upgraded to a FBO Stage 2 E85 setup. The only way to definitively tell that would be do to all of the modifications and tuning on the same day, with the same fuel in the tank.
I have not. I don't believe in the claims that 034 has made. As far as I can tell they are the only tuner that I've seen that claims they make more power from a downpipe and going to Stage 2 over Stage 1.
@@VancityAudi 034 has mentioned in a Q&A video that their Stage 1 w/intercooler and intake brings the B9 to 80% of the way power-wise to their Stage 2 w/downpipe and the aforementioned bolt-ons. So the downpipe only adds a small bit. This video is evidence that the downpipe does makes a difference.

No need to have both, just get an RS3. I personally LOVE my RS3. My B9 has been badass thus far, but when it comes to pound for pound performance with the same amount of hardware upgrades, the RS3 is WAY faster and more enjoyable to drive.
@@VancityAudi thanks for the quick response man ! And yeah , i agree. The more i think about it . The wife already has a car and i dont need two Audis . Besides that 2.5 is legendary 😤.
Wanna gain 50k more subs? Switch to mph
I agree that I need to remember to do that on the dyno and the drag strip.
Good to know there's absolutely no reason to install a downpipe unless you're going stage 3.
Well, it does improve the sound and unlock some additional torque. If you're only looking for horsepower though, don't bother.
