Incredibly well explained. Based on your videos I’m getting ready to do my first oil change ever by myself. It may be quite simple, but it’s a first for me. And it’s in my ST. So I hope it doesn’t go wrong! Not that it can… it’s so simple… the equipment I needed to do it cost the same as paying someone else to do it for me. Never paying anyone to change my oil again!

Perfectly explained the job of an oil change oft the Ecoboost engine in the Mk8. I always change the oil on my 125hp Fiesta with the exact Castrol type of oil mentioned in the manual long before it is due to be changed because of the timing belt in the engine‘s oil and I don‘t trust any cheap workshop when it comes to use the proper oil for the Ecoboost.

Very clear video, Did my son's several months ago (2020 Fiesta ST3). It actually takes 6.08L of 5W20 oil, confirmed by Ford. Yes it is a lot and I couldn't believe it either for a 1.5L engine. You can also use a 76mm 14 flute oil filter cup wrench to remove the oil filter. Yes it is tight against the radiator but if you put the cup wrench on the filter first and then insert your 3/8 drive afterwards it can be done. We rented a ramp for an hour as getting under a ST3 low suspension isn't easy. Ford only sell the whole sump plug and washer together, which in my opinion is a waste of a sump plug. Go figure why they would do that!! Overall its an easy procedure and very satisfying to do it yourself.

@@stevelewis7207 On the 25th of February 2019, a new engine variant has been introduced in production, in which the balance shaft has been relocated from the oil pan to the engine block. As a side effect, the engine oil capacity has changed due to construction conditions.
The old engine generation (K1BG-6007-CA) with the balance shaft in the oil pan (which also has a damping cover around the oil pan) gets 4.75l of oil and has a longer oil dipstick (approx. 51cm).
The newer engine generations (K1BG-6007-DA/EA/..) with the balance shaft in the block (which has no damping cover around the oil pan) gets 6.1l of oil and has a shorter oil dipstick (approx. 48,5cm).
The date for the change of the engine block in production was 25.02.2019.

@@davymaekelberg Kudos to you Davy. That’s something I reckon very few people know.
I first test drove a Mk8 Fiesta ST in July 2018, literally days after they came out.
Despite grinning from ear to ear for the whole 20 odd mile solo drive (on quick B roads), I decided against ordering one.
This was because I felt the engine lacked refinement, compared to my own car at the time - a Suzuki Swift Sport.
This was most noticeable around 4000 to 5000 revs.
Fast forward two years to May 2020 and I test drove another one.
The engines were like chalk and cheese; so much sweeter.
I immediately put my deposit down !
I can only speculate, but PERHAPS Ford also thought the early engines lacked refinement and hence the redesign… ?
Two years on from taking delivery, and I’m certainly very very pleased with mine in almost all respects.
      Thanks again Davy. 👍

The filter situation is even worse in the US, your filter seems a little stubbier than what they tell us to use, we get the Motorcraft Fl-910/Wix 51348/Fram 3614 filter which is about 10mm longer than WL7559 you used, the only stubbier filters you can really find in the US are application specific filters meant for lawn mowers. I don't know what Ford was thinking with the filter placement on this, but this isn't the first time they've put a filter in a real stupid place the old 3L OHV V6 "Vulcan" engines had the filter right were it'd run down on the starter and make a mess. Why couldn't they do it well like they did on the old Mazda MZR/Duratec 4 cyclinders where they oil filters is vertical and easily accessible, on my Dad's 2015 Escape(Kuga) with the 2.5 I run the oversized FL400S/Fram 3600 size filter, if the Filter adapter plate was spaced a little further from the block I'd put the huge old school FL1A/Fram 8A size filter on it.

Is 0w20 the recommended oil for that car? We have a 2019 1.0 EcoBoost and all the oil selectors recommend 5w20.
As far as I'm aware Mann Filters are an OE supplier to Ford factories so that's the filter brand I used for the oil change. Ford, like all other car brands, do not make their own filters.

Good video BUT I wouldn't use that oil. Use Ford Castrol which is tested to the Ford spec. This is especially important in the previous ECOboost which has a wet cambelt. The one time I used that brand of oil in a MK3 Golf the hydraulic tappets were noisy - I swapped it out for a more expensive brand and the noise went. Why skimp on oil?
