At the time this ceremony was held, the show had 4100+ episodes and almost 15000 airings on pbs kids and sprout in North America. Also, Joan Ganz Cooley is pleased of how the show is lasting forever.
They used to say if you were on The Simpsons then you knew you'd made it but I say if you found out how to get to Sesame Street then that tops anything.
Thanks so much! Wasn't shown here in Canada, I was bummed I missed it. Surely I wasn't the only 40-something crying? :-) Time restraints and all, but I wish someone had bothered to mention Jim Henson, there'd be no Sesame Street without him. As a traveling kid, the show was my touchstone in foreign countries. As an adult, it was a lifeline when my autistic son was born. Bless you, Jim and Sesame Street, long may you reign!
Frannie and Carroll are there, so I'm guessing it was Matt Vogel in the Big Bird costume. Now Fran's retired, Carroll's retired, Kevin Clash got fired... sadly most of the original puppeteers won't be at the 50th.
It was great to see Caroll Spinney, Kevin Clash, David Rudman and all the talented "Muppeteers" behind the Sesame Street Muppets get their due on stage along with their beloved characters. I like how Rudman totally got into character as Cookie Monster eating the Emmy (which by the way wasn't real--it was all planned).

Ricardo... okay how does one comment without Google+? Still, to answer your question, I swear, I can't even SEE David Rudman when Cookie is talking. I mean, I can but I have to concentrate. They've done this with Elmo and Telly, too ... there was a chat where Telly's puppeteer talked of 'flipping out' (very, very mildly) at a cameraman at the Nickelodeon awards who called him 'pink Elmo' ("Oh, and I guess Grover is _Blue_ Elmo?"), for example.

callaghanmj , I would have to agree with you because I too grew-up watching Sesame Street, I've been watching it ever since I was very young, I hope when my nieces are older, I'm going to introduce sesame street to them, so that they'll know their letters, numbers, ETC, ETC, I remember watching Sesame Street when I was living in Canton South Dakota, when it was on OLD SKOOL PBS, I also remember watching, Shining Time Station, Star Lore, STORYLORDS, Once Upon A Time (and I'm not talking about the TV Series with the same name that was on ABC), I-SLAND Treasure, Tales from the Tree House, Book Bird, Read It, Cover To Cover, ZOOBLIEE ZOO, The Letter People, 3-2-1 Contact, Square One TV, Reading Rainbow, Story Time, The Puzzle Place, Where In The World Is Carmen SANDIEGO, , ETC, ETC, I wish there was a network that shows only OLD SKOOL PBS shows, because Kid's Today Don't even know what good shows were back then, These OLD SKOOL PBS Shows were the Big Deal, Before The Other Shows.

Ricardo... okay how does one comment without Google+? Still, to answer your question, I swear, I can't even SEE David Rudman when Cookie is talking. I mean, I can but I have to concentrate. They've done this with Elmo and Telly, too ... there was a chat where Telly's puppeteer talked of 'flipping out' (very, very mildly) at a cameraman at the Nickelodeon awards who called him 'pink Elmo' ("Oh, and I guess Grover is _Blue_ Elmo?"), for example.
