Have the same intake, with a Unitronic inlet pipe. It was a hassle getting it in, but sounds amazing and have had it for 2yrs with no issues. I've upgraded the intercooler with Cobb Stage 2 package(AMS intercooler), then I upgraded the charge pipes with EQT charge pipes with a turbo muffler delete. I ran that with a Stage 1 93 octane tune from EQT(Way way more power and torque than the Stage 2 Cobb tune) and it sounded amazing with lots of blow off noises. Very powerful tune at Stage 1. Just upgraded the clutch and added a CTS 3.5" downpipe, got the intake manifold and injectors professionally cleaned of carbon. The noises are amazing with this set-up, that Cobb intake is not the easiest to move in and out, sharp corners and screws can be easily dropped and lost to the skid plate, but I like the sound more than some of the more expensive intakes I see others are running. Keep up the great content. Subscribed.
Always liked the VW GTi and I would have a GTi sitting in my driveway right now if it was AWD. I could get a Golf R but that's a big difference in price range for a work/daily commuter. MSRP on a 2024 VW Golf R with a few upgraded options from factory that I picked is $48315.00(destination charge included in this estimate). The 2024 VW GTI 380 Autobahn edition MSRP is 40825.00, the only reason I would opt for this edition is the seating surface has to be leather...otherwise the GTI base MSRP is only $32685.00. So the Golf R is a 16k difference in price for AWD...not worth the cost in my humble opinion. Great video guys, good to see Melanie upgrade her VW GTI and look forward to seeing more VW GTI content.
Working in talking her into a Downpipe so hopefully soon to come 😅 Personally I’m not a huge fan of the new models, the 7.5s look so good and are fairly affordable now 🎉
Hey tanner it’s great to see you work on the mqb platform! I would suggest looking into getting an aftermarket turbo Inlet as well as a diverter valve, one helps with throttle response and boost and the other allows for better airflow, both are right at the end of the intake near the turbo and both are relatively easy to do!
And definitely get the dsg tune. With higher power levels, you can have shifting issues without one, also it will shift crisper and will adjust shift points
Yo Tanner I have a mk6.5 gli that's Unitronic stage 2 with the tcu tune as well. Once you go stage 2 you need to tune the tcu as it removes the torque limiter on the transmission. Otherwise you'll constantly get an overpower/torque fault which will basically put the car in limp mode. It changes the clamp force/rate saving your clutch packs and allowing faster engagements in the transmission from a start/roll. This will make the transmission feel much more like a manual transmission. It also decreases the time it takes to shift and removes the slight input lag when using the paddles. Shift points are increased in drive and sport mode. As well as you'll actually get manual lockout so it won't automatically shift when in manual mode. I highly recommend getting the tcu tune. Just a warning to Melanie, almost all of the stage 2 tunes have burbles even if you don't throw the overrun/burble map on because of the vvt on gtis. She will be popping down the road unless you get a custom tune to remove it.
Thank you for explaining it! We will 100% tune the DSG then. We just were not 100% what all it actually changed. When we jump into the down pipe we will do the DSG too 🥳 greatly appreciated!
@@Smeedia You got it man. I'm glad I could help. They really don't explain much on any of the websites but the vortex forums really go into depth on what changes when you install the tune. It's wild to think now that we've gotten to the point where we can tune our transmissions like we tune our engines. The gtis have the upgraded dsg compared to the glis and have transitioned to the much better mqb platform before the glis did which is why they are a much better platform when it comes to performance. Sadly us mk6 gli owners kinda got left in the dust when it comes to aftermarket support unless we make the switch to the mqb setup by reversing the turbo, coolant lines, and intercooler plumbing. Even then our camshafts, vvt, and transmission are completely different. Intercooler and aos are super important when it comes to power gains/reliability just like a subie. I went from a 2005 wrx to the 2017 gli I have now just for less maintenance/reliability reasons with much less miles as my job requires a decent amount of travel but I really miss the ej platform with awd. The ea888 engine is great and all but you can't beat the sound/performance of an awd ej. I'm happy you've got the eg all sorted out for now and look forward to more rx7 content! Much love Tanner, you've been curing my subie itch and I'm missing Mathias everyday lol I wish he would build out that neon and get it running again.
I second this comment. Happened to me as well. Limp mode after a day of having the tune. The DSG tune is a must. It also shows you what gear you’re in when you put it in Drive(for Audi at least).
I had a 2013 jetta with the 5cylinder with auto as well. I tuned it with the automatic tune, it eliminates the rev limiter and changes shift points and throttle lag they have. I loved it
Intake and intake elbow go racingline or mst! Get an ots tune from eqt or sneeky tuned. And throw in an upgraded intercooler. That should be a healthy stage 1 tune.
I’d tune the dsg before I tuned the engine. It’s not only critical when tuning the engine. But it’s legitimately the largest single difference you will feel. Go EQT
Do the DSG tune! you will need the clamping force the tune gives. Shift points stay mostly the same just will hit harder. Already talked to you about eqt imo everyone loves their dsg tunes. Stage 2 on a gti is a great daily still get good MPG and have fun. you can even get up to an is38 with a e-tune and see close to 400. but remeber you are at limts with fueling.
The air intake on the GTI is an easy add on, and makes the car sound a lot better. Gives the car a little bit faster, cause it breathes a lot better. I had a couple GTI's, did stage 1, breather & down pipe. I found the down pipe is the best, you can really feel the difference. Then I bought a R & loved it, handled like it was on rails, & right out of the box, goes like hell. Tuned and added parts for a full stage 2, man that was a fast car. That's all I got See Ya's.
Definately tune the DSG, it will adjust clutch pack pressures to accommodate for the extra torque, extend the life of said clutch packs. It will change the shift points, give extra drive rpms, and will make sport mode actually useable outside of straight line play time. It is pretty much required to keep the DSG alive. Without the DSG tune, you will eat through the Clutch packs pretty quickly and that is about the only serviceable part of the transmission. Plus it adds even more fun to the car. ~ Mk7 & Mk6 owner.
Tuning the DSG isn’t necessary on a stage 1 tune, but definitely do it on anything higher. The shortens the shift time and increases the line pressure so the clutch pack doesn’t slip Also, the service manual for the R I sent you should work for the GTI as well with minor differences

Disclaimer. From a past owner of a few VW's...If you don't have a CEL light on, worry, worry a great deal b/c crippling engine and transmission failure is coming soon. LOL Hey so no Unitronic, GIAC, Techtonics, BFI, or APR? Is your choice for using Cobb personal choice? Oh super glad that your EG33 is finally perfected, that thing is sick as hell. You can probably tell I'm a Dubber, first car I heavily modified MKIII GLX VR6 Jetta, no F/I or upping in displacement, but everything else including 3.94R&P Schrick VGI, P&P BVH, DRC 268 cams, etc. It was a lot of fun. Do you mean by noises as in a blow off valve, don't VW's mostly use diverter valves, and switching to a blow off valve would actually hurt the power of the TSI? I could be wrong and if so no worries.
Correct, the stock diverted valve for the electronic connection 😅 I like the AP just because it’s a nice in the go tool for scanning, tuning and codes. I think we’re going to go through EQT but they use access tuner for tuning through the AP for these 🫡
@@SmeediaGlad to see you working on The Dub, as for reliability, well you own Subaru's so you should have no problem by now working on VW's as well. LOL. I'd say CAI, chip, up pipe/down pipe, and turbo back exhaust, and your wife is looking at around 300-320whp depending on what tune you go with. Yet I'm sure you 2 know all of this. It’s really hard to explain why it’s such a good mod without driving a car that already has it done. It’s definitely well worth it lol
@@Smeediaclamping force, shift points and how quickly it shifts. The dsg “fart” becomes one quick pop because of how much quicker it shifts It makes the paddles way more responsive too

My wife got a Mk7 GTI, I've been thinking once I get the STi accessport divorced I might send it to Cobb to reprogram it for the Mk7, the guy from Cobb told me they can do it, I'd be paying to add the DSG tune and an air intake, if I go that route, I'm looking for a good catback for it as well, the only concern is we dont even know if it was tuned before and in order for the AP tune to work it has to be on stock map, I seen it has some ecs tuning lines coming out of the stock airbox. Bt sh!ttt that thing is pretty quick from factory on Sport mode and the paddle shift response is on point, I might take it to a VW dealership and scan it first to verify if its on stock map or tuned before I pull the trigger with Cobb.
Not a bad plan ya have there, we are going to be adding the DSG Tune stuff as well. Seems highly suggested. The GTIs are solid units with a couple bolt Ons 🔥

The cobb ots tunes for MQB are garbage. They keep the fuel trims the same across the board as stock. Probably why you blew up your Golf R. I’d highly recommend going with EQT.
Funny enough I took the Cobb stuff off my R and it two weeks after putting it back to stock is when it blew up 😂 We’re going to go with EQT I think on it 🫡
You're going to have my trading my FRS that I never drive for another Beetle haha. I miss the DSG turbo drive feel more than I missed stick shift. Also, I second DSG tune from other comments. Just the basic performance one makes the shifts feel so much better without too much risk to the clutch basket.
I had an EQT tune as well as the DSG tune. I think the biggest thing is the increase in clamping pressure to hold the higher TQ values from the tunes I think my map was for 28psi. The shift points change as well. I definitely recommend it.
VW one of few reliable European makes, besides Volvo. And affordable to work on. Plus the interiors much prettier than crappy US junk. I've had 3 VW's, last forever 😊
Okay, so I must be a totally odd one out because I always watch your videos and even though I don’t own a Subaru and I own a GTI, I still love the content that you do and the way that you do it and the way that you show the ups and downs shows that you deal with the same sort of problems that we all deal with day after day after work, wrenching on the car , as for the DSG Tuning yes get it tuned because as you add power to the car you will need a higher clamping force to handle the power. Otherwise you will wear out the clutch Back quicker plus you will get better response
We will 100% get the DSG tuned then, we weren’t 100% sure what all it would actually adjust. Always gotta show the positive and negatives when it comes to it. We all run into issues with these things 🫡🙌

The whoosh noises are mandatory 😂😅
tune the trans, you won't regret it, big difference in sport mode. You said something about changing the tune again?. PS: do you know Savuth?
I do not know savuth 👀
Will tune the DSG 🙌
Nice work Mel. Who went all "this is Sparta!" On your door?
Someone backed into her door a couple weeks ago 🙃 got their insurance so getting fixed soon
The GTIs are solid units with a couple bolt
Ons 🔥
Just realized bro we got the same year model, color and rims, the twins GTI😂💪🔥
Sorry, been slacking on the vids!
😎👍🏻👍🏻
I love these, I may buy one next
how can you get in it and look at tartan upholstery..I just couldn't do it but they seem to be really good the golf R and GTi
Tbh you don’t see it when your sitting down 😅 I don’t mind it though
I get that I have a Toyota for adventures and Sti for fun and it wasn't a criticism they dress up well I just love how well my Subaru's have served me but I love you to come and build my bogeyed as irs pristine but needing a freshen up after 22 years of wonderful fun
In the army, we called those glasses bcg. Birth control glasses because nobody will get laid in those 😂
I still have my Og BCGs from 2011 😂
🤤 removing the plastic crap form engines in exchange for quality piping.
Makes it look so much cleaner 🤌🤌🤌
How's the quality on the AWE? Was looking at the AWE Touring for my VB but I've read a decent number of complaints about quality
Honestly really like the AWE stuff. Quickly became my fav in my old VB!
So speaking of stustustu noises, i recently heard you can block the BPV on a stock sti to get those noises. Is that safe?
You can, for the most part you’ll be fine. Might mess with fuel trims a small bit 😅
shouldn’t unless you go speed density. just get a GS or peering BPV and tighten it up if you want flutter
I pretend my 8” is 12” also
😂😂😂
The cobb ots tunes for MQB are garbage. They keep the fuel trims the same across the board as stock. Probably why you blew up your Golf R. I’d highly recommend going with EQT.
Funny enough I took the Cobb stuff off my R and it two weeks after putting it back to stock is when it blew up 😂
We’re going to go with EQT I think on it 🫡
Cough.. So like.... if you need a truck... like idk, i sell trucks... just sayin. In Montana.. Soooooo good quality trucks.... Couch cough...
lol looking around for a newer Tacoma 👀
I feel like I need to call my ex again… kinda miss working on her mk7 GLI
😂12”
I was not even close 😂
First person to say first 😮
Eyyyy early bird 😅
Just do a rs3 swap lol
Let me convince her to let me daza swap it 😅
Sounds shite
I think it sounds pretty decent 👌
Let me know if you want us to wrap it since we’re in the same unit 💯 @supernovawraps wrapping a mk7 golf r in the next 2 weeks kpmf purple
Lemme come peep it when it’s done 😅
I would love to see this as well I'm looking into wrapping my R as well
Will do, I’ll keep an eye out for ya down below
Braap, braap, braap!!!! Get it Team Smeedia!!!

Did something fall out of the car right @ 15:00
I think that’s just the light reflecting 😅
You're going to have my trading my FRS that I never drive for another Beetle haha. I miss the DSG turbo drive feel more than I missed stick shift. Also, I second DSG tune from other comments. Just the basic performance one makes the shifts feel so much better without too much risk to the clutch basket.
The DSG is my favorite transmission I think I’ve driven. That thing is ungodly fast 💨
The dsg tune is definitely HIGHLY recommended especially once u start making more power.
Hell yeah! That exhaust sound gooood btw
Solid exhaust for a DD🙌
I had an EQT tune as well as the DSG tune. I think the biggest thing is the increase in clamping pressure to hold the higher TQ values from the tunes I think my map was for 28psi. The shift points change as well. I definitely recommend it.
VW one of few reliable European makes, besides Volvo. And affordable to work on. Plus the interiors much prettier than crappy US junk. I've had 3 VW's, last forever 😊
The GTI has been thee most reliable thing we’ve had 😅
I wish Cobb had tuning support for my Golf
i have the same feels when im working on aircraft and see a clamp or some shit in an incredibly awkward position. names, WE NEED NAMES.
I just wanna know how they even got it into the weird spots 😂
Music 🔥
