the left side preamp is based on the Selmer TnB 50 and to my ear blends some of the best elements of an AC30, an 18w Marshall and a Super. it’s glassy when clean and gutsy when cranked. extremely versatile amp. take the volume to noon and then go from fender to vox to marshall by just shaping the mids and cut.
Great demo. The fact that the consensus is boring on the EF86 channel is probably because it’s a not an ef86….it’s a “cascoded” twin triod ( 12ax7 configured differently to emulate a EF86
Wow…what a killer sounding amp. Those P90’s sounded killer too. The humbuckers seemed to be a bit too much for this amp, and the tone lost it’s articulation. But, the P90’s were a great match. Never knew 65 Amps had a line that captured the British vibe so well. Very nice!
I prefer the cleans tones from this amp over the crunch tones particularly with it running through the Friedman cab/neck PU (7:00). Excellent production. I'm glad these demonstrations exist because I've been able to use them to make actual purchasing decisions with confidence.
Is this amp modded or a special order from the factory? As far as I can tell, the Marquee does not use an ef86 tube, it uses a 12ax7 and some circuit tricks to emulate the Colour channel of the London model. Sounds great though. I'm a huge 65 Amps fan. I have a Tupelo.
I've heard Leon play that riff a few times recently. Is it from a song? To me, it sounds like something you'd hear on an old western movie with the hero walking through town, with his hands ready to draw. 🤠

Ah you’re probably right, never popped the hood on this one. The other channel though is pretty awesome.
Fantastic major and minor mixing going on here

Yep they made a bunch of cool amps and then disappeared - the Royal Albert is also a killer model.

Great, if we've help just one tone junkie it's all been worth it!
Ref C PAF crunch is fantastic.
Yep pretty cool amp. I think Rich from the Black Crowes was using them for a while, great for the style.
That double cut junior really kicks, you should play some hair metal on it.
I reckon there is a half-decent Shuck in that thing... Looks like a fun amp to play around with and get some inspiration.
Best tone IMO was the Jr with the amp cranked up. That nice P90 sting but with weighty crunch to keep it grounded.
Yes this amp loves the Jr, great combo.
i have one and primarily play a DC Special through it. it loves P90’s.

That’s right. I have one. It’s all 12ax7s.

The Strat one? Just one of Leon’s cool ad lib things 👍
