JHENÉ AIKO - "Triggered"

One-take music video for recording artist Jhené Aiko, off her most recent album, Chilombo. Shot on the big island of Hawaii, in the Kona section.

Fun fact: We shot this on the Big Island, Hawaii.. On the KONA side of the island, not too far from Puako. We had a house in Puako, where Jhené was working on her album "Chilombo." Most days she'd work on music, the producers and her would collab on music, we'd create content, shoot photos, document clips for archival purposes etc, and we would also take breaks. Tour the island, go swimming, go shopping, lounge, play games, eat, do various nature / outdoor activities etc. On this particular day, our time in Kona was coming to an end I think but there was still a ton of stuff for us to do. We knew we wanted to shoot around sunset but the day was getting away from us and we were starving also...we wanted to eat ! Still at the house, I looked to Jhené and the whole house and I said, "that sun is gonna be gone in 30min, we need to leave here right now, get to the spot we saw that we liked, shoot this video, and then we can go eat." At that very moment the whole house jumped up, we threw some clothes on and we raced out to the Jeep to drive 15min to this spot we saw previously, with some great dark black lava rocks. By the time we got there, parked, walked over the rocks, the sun had maybe 5-10 minutes left before it was gone. I grabbed the speaker, I grabbed the camera, looked at Jhené and we just went for it. The video you see here, is the only take we did. We shot this one time, and left everything as-is. What you see here is how it looked day of. And that really lends itself to how we were creating at the time. "Less is more" + "the law of least effort." We didn't want to overthink anything, we didn't want to complicate anything, we just wanted to perform and have the emotion / soul / message shine thru uninterrupted. Glad people liked it then, glad people still rock with it now. Oh yeah, we went to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse 5min after lol. -TJR
