- Nostrum created a big impression when making all the running to win the Edmondson Hall Solicitors Sir Henry Cecil Stakes at Newmarket.
Trained by Sir Michael Stoute, the Kingman colt was one of last season’s leading juveniles, finishing third in the Dewhurst behind subsequent 2000 Guineas winner Chaldean - like Nostrum owned by Juddmonte.
Forced to miss the Guineas due to a minor setback, Nostrum was making his seasonal reappearance at Listed level but was still sent off the 11-10 favourite against some promising rivals.
Ryan Moore was happy to make the running, settling beautifully, and just like his sire he produced a smart turn of foot when needed.
Going into the dip, when Moore pressed the button the race was soon over and while the previously unbeaten Embesto gave chase, he was beaten by a comprehensive three lengths.
Stoute said: “It was everything I hoped to see. He had been off for nine months, but he was working very well.
“It looked a competitive field, so we weren’t confident of winning, but we knew he’d run very well.
“But he was most impressive. I was very pleased with him.
“He knocked a hind leg and he needed time to get the infection out and get him right again. The last three weeks we’ve been happy that he’d shown progressive improvement. Ryan liked him.”

Moore undeafeated on him vest bet of the day
YOOOO.I just got chills down My spine. Seeing those Juddomonte colors and a bay colored horse charging down the lane thought that was you know who.......
JUDDMONTE
Looked a picture going up and this could be a nice year for him if he goes to the Sussex and if he does I’d imagine he’ll give Paddington a bit of trouble possibly
Only this is, in the big races, Moore will be on the Ballydoyle horses, not Nostrum
Nostrum been waited on to deliver strongly on his development. This one will go on to be great, absolutely a monster as good as Frankel in the making.
Sir Michael as elusive as ever 🌝
Interviewer desperate to have the horse fried to a crisp, right into Group 1s & back in the Sussex in 3 weeks & then on to the Irish Champion over 10f; maybe they can still supplement for the St. Leger a week after that...
@tomojay28
Then onto Cheltenham for the Champion Hurdle followed by the Grand National and then Wimbledon
@@keithf_ The hilarious part is she even mention's Baaeed conservative path towards superstar status but in her view this one ought to lock horns w/ Paddington on the heels of this race; maybe she was miffed that Baaeed didn't run in the Iditarod for his 4yo debut; Nostrum obviously had a major problem less than 3 months ago as he only pulled out of the 2000 Guineas a couple of weeks before the race. Let him develop & he can slug it out with the best at the QE II or better yet, next year. He might be able to even come over to America for the Indy 500...
Sir Michael doesn't really say much. Neither does his sometime jockey Ryan Moore. I often wonder how those two communicate with eachother. Maybe by semaphore ?
The only problem is the same jockeys keep riding all the good ones and it kills the interest, as per a clash with Paddington
This horse has just saved the Sussex stakes from being a walkover
Was 3/1 earlier in the morning. I managed to get on at 9/4. Very impressive from a lengthy absence.
Godolphin going to need to hope for a strong 2yo crop this year because the 5yos, 4yos, & 3yos are not cutting it. Imperial Emperor broke worst of the lot (but they all broke poorly), half rearing at the start & spotting the field a couple of lengths; then Buick asked him to make all that lost ground back up in the blink of an eye by moving right into the teeth of that strong pace at the midway point; not surprising he hit a brick wall when they went uphill but this horse was supposed to be a Derby horse after his debut & he had the benefit of a paid workout in his comeback race a couple of weeks ago. Embesto was all the rage too when he debuted a couple of months ago. In the end, the horse that had proven class made a mess of them despite the lack of recent start.
I hate to oppose Paddington in the Sussex as he has been good for me but if Nostrum turns up I seriously think he can win , backed him Ante post for guineas and think he would have gone close ,would love to see Ryan ride him but that won't happen if Paddington runs Nostrum turn of foot reminds me of Kingman incredibly impressive
The most impressive horse this season imposing power
More impressive than Shaquille or City Of Troy ?
I love watching Sir Michael being 'not' interviewed. He doesn't say a lot but what he does say can be easily discarded. Legend ! LOL
Was literally 3/1 when i first saw the price, I now wondered why it went to 11/10.
More bent racing on Friday 1/6 on favs and 10 lengths better than the rest still gets beat.... Tony cuenca
That final furlong was insane
Proper miler
baaeed won this race
Very impressive this will cheer moore up after his lose on tower of london
I thought it was a shocking ride on Tower of London in real time then realised he dropped the whip
Another easy winner... Tony cuenca
Unlike Adayar who was useless... Tony cuenca
@@craphead9842Adayar cost me a 4 fold of a grand🤦♂️
He can be good as Paddington
better imo
I feel stoute lied about that injury
Don't be stupid
When he was ruled out of the Guineas they said he had pulled muscles behind
What would be the benefit of lying?
