Indonesian cuisine is criminally underrated. Almost everything I ate the flavors burst in your mouth and there’s just so many variations and dishes. Miss it so much 😢
I agree, all we can see is indian food with no variations( like typical naan, butter chicken)😅 we need to see more food vlogs from east or southeast asia.

I think what makes Indonesian cuisine that adopted other countries cuisines different and unique from most countries is that most foreign cuisines that this country adopted are usually different from the original. 'bahasa' only mean 'language', 'bahasa indonesia' in correct english translation is simply 'indonesian', same as 'orang indonesia' also 'indonesian. 'bahasa melayu' is 'malay', 'bahasa cina' is 'chinese', 'bahsa jepang' is 'japanese' etc.
You should try Mie ayam or Seblak while you're in Indonesia 😂 Nasi Kuning (yellow rice) is highly recommended too, most of the time you'll only find Nasi Kuning stand in the morning (cause most people eat it as breakfast) but you'll also found them in the night but people call it Nasi Kuning Bagadang cause it's only available in the night time for those who hasn't eat yet or as a midnight 'snack' cause the portion is lesser than the one in the morning...

I dont really like soft kerupuk but the soup is actually really good especially if u made it right with strong kencur taste (not encer) it will be sooo good

Thank you for not scared to choose warung and support the local businesses. Warung tend to be not the choice of tourist however some of them over really unique and great food that can't be find in restaurant or hotel buffet.
It's definitely a 50/50. On one hand it's great that people are buying things from small local businesses, but on the other hand some food from warungs can make foreigners sick due to them not getting used to spicy food and the level of hygiene is definitely lower when compared to Europe and North America. I personally only recommend street foods/warungs to those who are already used to spicy food and street level hygiene.

I am an Indonesian, living in Bandung, watching this I think I've been taking everything for granted when it comes to food around me. Yes we're surrounded by delicious good food that's so affordable. You can get various decent food under US $1 per meal with enough protein and flavours. But the thing is, average salary for many people here is only around $250-$300/month, it's okay when you're single, but if you have family of 4 😅😅 Still we must be grateful for everything we have 🙏🏼

the variation of Indonesian cuisine is mind blowing.. because of the geography condition and the diversity of the people, plus the history and influence from foreign nation through trade and colonialism, its really shape Indonesian cuisine as it is now. And don't forget that mostly have a strong and distinguished flavor as well.
As someone who has lived in Asia (Singapore, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Manila), I can say that she is super respectful of cultures (I’m assuming she is American) and she is super well-travelled. She also tends to go for street food, hawker centres like we have in Singapore, and fast food like everything she ate at Jollibee or Maccas. Full respect to her she’s not “sus” at all and her comments on street food in Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand are all spot on and authentic for those who have not been to these countries and tasted real local foods
Hi karissa !! Its very exciting and fun to watch ur vlogs.. Actually i wanted to recommend you a shop in Malaysia (if u planning to visit there again) That shop in wangsa maju, Kuala Lumpur.. They are serving big bowl of thick and soupy curry mee (it is a thick spicy curry contains Noodles and kuey tiow, fish ball, potato, brinjal and long beans and chicken/pork (you can choose according to ur preferences but that curry mainly a chicken one).. But the speaciality here they are selling big curry bowls and alot of items in it.. And it costs on RM 30.. And there are also other variety noodles and food that you can give it a try.. (but the big curry bowl is a must try one) That tastes super tasty and you should go to that shop if you visit Malaysia.. and im 💯 percent sure you will love it 🤩
