Probably you're gonna laugh. The other day I found myself looking for a sheath for my Deluxe Tinker and, the only thing I had at hand was the pouch of a and old Nokia cellphone... I grabbed that thing and put my SAK inside and attached it yo my belt... It worked fine. Of course, this was just a temporary solution. Again, great video! Loved those holsters. Awesome, thank you!! Yes, I did laugh, but it seems like the kind of thing that might come in style - using old cellphone holsters for tools! Very environmentally friendly, and maybe a touch hipster.. 🤔
Bought my workchamp 2 months ago, used it more than my toolsbox. It's amazing and LOCKED blade which is a huuuuuuge plus! Great video with all the holsters, something you forget when buying a swissknife!
Another good video Ann or Anne? Workchamp 111 is a little big for my use which is around the house. Hercules fits that bill, only thing it lacks is a hornet sprayer.
Thanks for another great video, Anne. I've never wanted a Workchamp before but here I sit trying to talk myself out of getting one. Your enthusiasm is too darn infectious! Can't wait for the next video.
Hi St Petie! I will admit...I use my Workchamp less than I thought I would. It is a very classy working knife, so I love it, but I am lazy and want the screwdrivers to come out without having to unfold another tool. And yet, if they did, it would be wider, and I actually think it's size is quite good. 🤔 It's another example of me trying to become a better person for my Swiss army knife. I hope that tempers my infectious enthusiasm!
The WorkChamp was not specifically mentioned so I ordered the 6 layer for my 111mm size Victorinox which I assume will fit. I agree with your assessment of the SAK WorkChamp model being the best larger format Swiss Army knife. Perfect outdoor oriented tool and can still be pocket carried if need be. Thanks for posting this belt case review

I recently added a WorkChamp to my Victorinox collection which already includes two SwissChamps as my all time favorites! I have found that the best case for the WorkChamp -- for my needs -- is the large Victorinox Black Nylon pouch (with the white stitched Victorinox emblem on the flap) which provides a very generously sized rear belt loop. As I typically wear a thick and wide gear utility belt -- with metal closures on each end of the belt -- most of the current cases including the current large Victorinox Black Nylon velcro closure case (with the triangular metallic emblem on the flap) have belt loops stitched too tightly to the rear main portion of the case. This makes it a real pain to thread the case onto a thick wide utility type belt -- unless the belt's end clip is removed first. I'm delighted that your leather case works well for your needs. YMMV.
Oh interesting! I think I know the kind of the belt you are talking about, with the two metal parts that clip together - I think 5 11 makes one like that. I never thought of this problem! Thank you for sharing your solution!
Great video, thanks. I like the Victorinox Workchamp. But it was a little too small, so I bought the Workchamp XL. The knife covers / scales are a material called polyamide. This material makes the scales tough and scratch resistant. I did get the Victorinox leather sheath made in Switzerland. Like the quality of the sheaths and the design. Do not mind the velcro, or worry it will open or ware out, as I always have a lanyard that has a latch to connect the knife to my belt if it fell out of the sheath. The sheath for me is to carry and keep the knife clean and protected. I do not rely only on a sheath to secure any of my knives from loss but always have a lanyard as a secondary security device. Plus, having a lanyard when taking the knife out of the sheath keeps me from dropping the knife and aids in pulling out of sheath. I can then disconnect quickly. Or I can leave lanyard on the knife and put my hand through the lanyard to keep from dropping while in use. Especially good for heavy knives. 🔪
Thank you for commenting Thomas. Yes, I really need to do some things with lanyards to see if they suit me. I often wonder how a lanyard could really add to the functionality of my knife, and you really brought up a good point with making sure that you don't drop and lose your knife! Thank you so much for your thoughtful. Comment!
@thevineclimber I dropped my Swiss Champ XLT onto the concrete when it slipped out of my hand. The knife, for a SAK, is heavy, and luckily, it only left a small mark on the corner of the scale. From now on, I put my hand into the lanyard before pulling the knife out so if it slips out of my hand, it will not fall to the hard ground, damaging it more. All my lanyards are tighed in a loop, big enough to put my hand through, with 2 knots close together at the end. I leave enough room between the knots to add a small mini light weight caribeaner so I can latch to my belt loop. Then I loop lanyard through the hole of the key ring and back through itself, pulling to secure. When pulling tight, I make sure the knife, and the caribeaner is on opposite sides of the loop. By looping through the hole of the key ring and back through itself, it is easy to take on and off. I do not need to thread through the key ring every time like you do with a key. Having the lanyard rapped around the key ring, I pull one side down so when I pull on the lanyard, it presses against both sides of the key ring right at the attachment hole. This method will not pull against the entire key ring, just the metal going through the attachment hole. This method keeps the key ring from stretching out and failing, like can happen when the lanyard is only threaded on to key ring like a key is.
Excellent interesting video, Anne! Even when the subject matter isn't something of interest to me, I will still watch the whole video because you do it so well. The holster you found is of quality and function I would be interested in, if I carried a big knife that way. I still carry my small tinker in my front right pocket like I have with any knife since I started carrying a knife over 50 years ago. The current trend I see is people carrying their knives in leather slips or organizers in their pockets which seems like a bulky way to carry ones tools and adds another step to even get the tools in use. Glad you got to show off your purse again on the video! It is a nice purse but seemed kinda empty when you dropped the knife in. Must be a special occasion purse. LOL Jeff
Lol Jeff! Yes, it is a special occasion purse. It was an absolutely ridiculous splurge, but it's so pretty and cheerful. Actually it's been on YT one more time than I've carried it since it's first appearance! You are very kind in your assessment of my videos, and I thank you. I soul's also like to make videos that are in interesting topics, so if you can think of something, let me know! I have to agree that the slips must add quite a bit of bulk. I think they are so that things aren't banging into each other, it do that you don't get pocket long in the pocket. The pocket mod where you sew a divider into your pocket seems like a good choice for some pants and people, because it takes up no room at all. Thank you very much for watching and commenting. Do you get pocket lint stuck in your knife much?
@@thevineclimber Anne, you come up with ideas and videos I never would have thought of, but always interesting and enjoyable. Our perspectives my be different but we do view things with a similar logic and view point. You are correct about trying to keep lint out of the action for using the slip. But it never made sense to me when these same people like to see carbon blades patina and consider blemishes on the knife as character? I've never had issues with pocket lent, since I cleanout the knife every time I sharpen and oil it. I get so much tape residue on the blades, it drives me nuts not to clean it up on the weekend. It is no different than having to put a new flint and fuel in my Zippo lighter. Video ideas, How often do you use which tools on your swiss champ daily that makes you want to carry it as your EDC? How do you sharpen your swiss champ since the blade is on the back side of the wide knife? I still know it is your favorite even though you own several others now. You have shown us you like camping, what tools do you consider essential when you go camping? Do you only use your knife saw or do you explore using Corona or other brand of foldable saws for camping? Do you use a camp ax or hatchet? If I think of more I will share. By the way, it is a very nice purse and I equal it to nice wallet that I will carry for a decade or more. I can appreciate nice leather products for daily use! Just not pocket slips or organizers. LOL If I had to pull that thing out every time I needed an ink pen, I would become very frustrated. Drives me nuts, I don't have a pocket on my work shirts. I lose or carry home more pens by putting in my right front pants pocket or set down some place...... Have a great weekend Anne! Jeff
Great video Anne. I really liked the outdoor setting ( I must try that). I'm working on a minitoolkit and the nite-izeholster looks fab for that. It's a great day in the UK today🌞 and with some gardening to do I can use some tools and knives ( leatherman and Mora fixed blade) that I can't have as part of my everyday carry😎 Mark...
Hey Mark! Ooh, I ❤️ mini toolkits. That's going to be great! If you decide to record outside, I have to warn you that the sun moves and messes up your shots, and makes it difficult in editing. :( stupid nature, getting in the way of You Tube! Thank you for watching - I can't wait to see the mini toolkit video!
@@thevineclimber I gave you a shout out on my Topeak video. Your IKEA video gave me some inspiration. You'll see my early ideas for a mini toolikit at the end of that video - but I know I can develop it further...
I do not own any 111mm SAKs. Not yet. I have a holster for my SwissChamp. My ma-in-law made it for me and I love it. I usually carry my trusty Ranger on hikes and camping trips. Easy to pocket carry. My SwissChamp is sometimes on my belt instead. I find it too large in the pocket but, perfect in it's sheath on my belt. I am now semi-retired and am very much enjoying this newly found channel. And plenty of time to absorb your work. Thanks.
Lol that's a pretty awesome mother- in- law you have there!!! The Ranger is great. It has a very high "tool density" - the most tools per layer it could have!! 5 back layer tools for 5 layers. You are really getting a lot when you carry that :) I hope for a day when I can retire... Thanks for watching the videos! :)
@@thevineclimber My ma-in-law is, indeed, just the awesomest. Seriously. I consider her one of my best friends. And she gets a bit of a kick from my ever growing SAK collection.
Super review, just what I was looking for. I would note that the Nite Ize case has a clamshell design that, while advantageous is many areas, has a weakness in that a heavy knife like the Workchamp might eventually work its way through the bottom. Also, some have complained that the plastic belt clip is wubjec5vto breakage. Anywayl contacted Dmitro so we'll see about cost.
Awesome! Yeah, he's in Ukraine, so not sure about shipping times either. I want to tell you that I am still so super happy with that holster. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thank you! I should probably try to figure out which of them are for the Swiss Champ - the descriptions on their website make it very difficult to find holsters there! Was one of them the cool-looking green one?
Anna Hi, I really like the leather sheath it has simple clean lines, I also like the snap that will out last velcro. Here is some info. from SAKWIKI The 111mm models have nylon synthetic handle or dual-density injection moulded Polyamide (PME-6) synthetic handles. (found on the soldier model) When Victorinox created a new design Dutch Army Knife (DAK 1993) it included the second gen. liner lock and the heavier locking screwdriver for light prying, opening crates and such. In 1994 Victorinox started producing other liner lock models for demanding tasks, in rescue and military operations. Eventually all existing models were converted to liner locks.
Hey Hitch!! 😀 nice to hear from you. Oh interesting - so this is probably the nylon handles. I really like the feel of them. Not shiny, and with some texture. Thank you! 😊 "We both love Swiss Army Knives!"
Thank you for your post, the Victorinox Work Champ is a real workhorse. I've been using mine since the late 90's and it has never let me down. The texture of the handle scales is a bit rougher and the weight is heavier, but you get the capabilities of a folksy multi-tool.
Hey Marcel - that is great to hear! I was super glad to get it. There is something about it that is just so enjoyable about using it. Thank you for watching and commenting!
I chose the SwissChamp to take on an 8 day canoe trip in the BWCA of upstate Minnesota and the Victorinox nylon belt pouch to carry it in. It exceeded all expectations. I used the pliers and awl to stitch and repair hiking boots, the fish scaler tool to scale Northern Pike, the mag glass and tweezers to find and remove a splinter, the tortoise gear helix tinder and firefly to start a cooking fire, the saw and knife to process kindling and scissors to cut tarred bank like for a clothes line. These really are magnificent tools.
Yes!!! I'm so happy to hear that, and I'm so glad you got to take that awesome trip. It is definitely on my bucket list. Was the portaging difficult? Anyhow back to the topic at hand I feel so much more confident that I can tackle problems that come my way when I have the Swiss champ on me. And you really proved that on this trip!
Hey Anne, thank you very much for that great Video👍❗ I'm a big fan of Victorinox knifes and I will buy one of those sheets for sure💪🏻😁❗ Keep on doing your videos and greetings from Germany🙋🏼❗
Hallo Hugo! Bitte schön! Und vielen Dank für deinen netten Kommentar. I'm sorry my German isn't very good, but I love to get a chance to try. The man who made it was very nice and lives in Ukraine, I think. Thank you for watching and commenting!!
Good morning Anne, I have that niteize holster that I use for a gerber MP1 multitool and bit holder. It's a good solid option but sits quite far out from your body which makes it a bit weird. Fine for work stuff I suppose but I think your leather option is a much better choice for the SAK. Have a good weekend. 🍻🏴
Yes, I neglected to mention that. Still it's cool to have an adjustable holster! Thank you very much for bringing this up - it would be a deal breaker for some.
Nice video Ann! I wanted a Hercules as the tools are bigger than those in the 91 mm SAKs, but it is discontinuef, so I got an Outrider, which is an amazing sak with a powerful woodsaw. But still my swisschamp is my ultimate knife.
I wanted a Hercules too! And then I started thinking about why. I wanted it and I think it was really because the name was awesome. So I got a work champ instead because it was about the same price. This was after the discontinuation of the Hercules. I also really love the wood saw.
Hi, nice overview. Is your Swisschamp older model? Because I think the phillips on the newer models is shorter. I've had a Workchamp, but unfortunately didn't use it as much as I thought, also only two tools lock, it's heavy as well and bulky. I've sold it. Went back to my Forester. Lately, I've purchased a One hand Sentinel Clip, paired with my Spirit it's a great combo. You should get a Spirit, you won't regret it. Sometimes when camping I'll use a sheat or holster, other way it's obvious that you carry something and in the UK it's a bit risky like you've mentioned with locking tools. Cheers 👍
The textured nylon scales were also used for *some time* for normal Victorinox knives of the econo line. (The econo line knives had a different packaging and were a little cheaper, but otherwise seem the same as the "normal" ones.) My sportsman i carry for a long time now has these scales and in my opinion, they do well with scratches and despite the texture wearing away in obvious places i think they do great in the long run. =>They may not look as elegant from the start, but they are less likely to look beat up and seem to take more punishment while showing less visible damage.
Now that you mention it, I think my sportsman is the same! I wonder why they discontinued those scales. I really like those because I feel like I could throw that in a bag with my keys and not worried if something is going to get scratched. Thank you very much for watching and commenting!
I wish the workchamp had larger pliers instead of the 91mm ones. I love the 91's but the workchamp is supposed to be for doing more 'real tool' things on the daily.
Oh yes, I feel the same way!! But it will be hard to compete with a pliers- based multitool for pliers. I think they think you should get a Swiss Tool if you want a bigger pliers!
Hey JT - it did!! And it's very cool. Understated but protective packaging, interesting outer appearance (which totally is in keeping with my style at times), and a thin knife with a strong lock... I really am happy to have it, and I thank you for directing me to it! I do not get enough time to carry it, though! I sometimes carry 4 knives and tools in me, but there's never enough time... I need to sign it to a video so that I am forced to carry it! Thanks, JT!
Hi! I finally got one when it went on sale somewhere. I love it, but it is not something I carry much. It doesn't have the tool variety of my beloved Swiss champ! It has no pen or magnifying glass. And it's not the fastest tool, and I'm lazy so I like fast. I have considered a Workchamp XL, and @ZoePhin has just about convinced me to get one! But those are very expensive, while this is a reasonable price. I could live life with only my Swiss Champ, though. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Oh yes, a cybertool lite would do well in an Ikea challenge, too. All the bits, with reach, and a light for working inside a cabinet. A Workchamp strikes me as a good partner to a Cybertool Lite. They make up for each others deficiencies, while each being excellent in its own right, and with different areas of expertise, if you will. That is a cool combination. 😎
I wish there was an pouch option for the Victorinox Outrider. Everything I find is either for the Trekker and is too tight or too loose and rattles as I walk.
If you like that holster, go to the same link and he has options for all different layers. My only concern is for the one handed ones.I'd make sure hes aware and able to make those.
I carry a workchamp at work as my go to SAK! I carry it in a work bag, so I don't need a sheath, and it's non legal here in the UK anyway! This model is absolutely a must-have SAK? I have all three versions of the model and picked up a couple of new liner locks on Amazon UK with price mistakes at £35 each! Good old Amazon!
@thevineclimber Yes, in the 80s and 90s, you could get these scales on the 84 & 91 mm knives they were branded then as the ecoline models! Slightly cheaper than the regular models, the scales were nylon as opposed to the cellador. The scales were much harder wearing and came with heat stamped logos! I personally preferred these to cellador? They carried these over to the new 111 mm models and never offered cellador on the latter! The nylon came along as a requirement from the German army ,when Victorinox made the GAK 108 mm model for the Germans from 1976 ! This knife was also available for civilian purchase as the trooper and although now long gone are a very nice two layer alternative to the spartan & hiker.
Hey Grovsey! Yeah, that bottle opener is great. I love that it locks. And since it's called the Workchamp you feel like you can use it and get it a little scratched up without feeling guilty! I love the long saw. For this knife, I really don't care if the blade is that long, though. I like that it locks, of course, but honestly I wouldn't want my little blade on the Swiss Champ, at least, to lock because it's too convenient to fold it in and out. But the Workchamp is not about convenience! It's about getting the work done
Oh! What a good idea! Somebody recommended a particular mag pouch to me before as a holster, but I was unable to find it. The Workchamp is about the size of a double-stack magazine... and those pouches are made to have good retention but release the mags easily. Smart!
When I do bigger work around the house I use proper full size tools. All multitools, including Swiss army knives, are a compromise. It's funny when people say I use this tool or that tool all the time. If that's the case, use a proper tool!

Hi Anne thank for your great vidéo and présentation
Thank you got your great comment! I'm very happy you enjoyed it! 😀
Jeff
Great video! Thanks for doing the work and sharing this with us. Have a great day!
Thanks Eddie! You too!
Great video..Thank you for sharing..I may need a super Tinker sheath lol
Yes! Lol fortunately those are available everywhere on Etsy ' just search by tool layer!
Love your videos!
Thank you!! That's very nice of you!
You are really getting a lot when you carry that :)
I hope for a day when I can retire...
Thanks for watching the videos! :)
@@thevineclimber
My ma-in-law is, indeed, just the awesomest.
It was a pain but there are two from Victorinox that fix. One loose and one tight. But yes it has hock and loop.
Thank you! I should probably try to figure out which of them are for the Swiss Champ - the descriptions on their website make it very difficult to find holsters there! Was one of them the cool-looking green one?
Anna Hi, I really like the leather sheath it has simple clean lines, I also
like the snap that will out last velcro. Here is some info. from SAKWIKI
The 111mm models have nylon synthetic handle or dual-density injection
moulded Polyamide (PME-6) synthetic handles. (found on the soldier model)
When Victorinox created a new design Dutch Army Knife (DAK 1993) it
included the second gen. liner lock and the heavier locking screwdriver for
light prying, opening crates and such. In 1994 Victorinox started producing
other liner lock models for demanding tasks, in rescue and military operations.
Eventually all existing models were converted to liner locks.
Hey Hitch!! 😀 nice to hear from you. Oh interesting - so this is probably the nylon handles. I really like the feel of them. Not shiny, and with some texture.
Thank you! 😊
"We both love Swiss Army Knives!"
@@thevineclimber Less showy, but a more durable design. Victorinox has some 91mm models with
the same scales
Thank you for your post, the Victorinox Work Champ is a real workhorse. I've been using mine since the late 90's and it has never let me down. The texture of the handle scales is a bit rougher and the weight is heavier, but you get the capabilities of a folksy multi-tool.
Hey Marcel - that is great to hear! I was super glad to get it. There is something about it that is just so enjoyable about using it. Thank you for watching and commenting!
@@thevineclimber absolutely, I still got two of the slider-lock version and I'm super happy with them.
Hey Anne,
thank you very much for that great Video👍❗
I'm a big fan of Victorinox knifes and I will buy one of those sheets for sure💪🏻😁❗
Keep on doing your videos and greetings from Germany🙋🏼❗
Hallo Hugo! Bitte schön! Und vielen Dank für deinen netten Kommentar.
I'm sorry my German isn't very good, but I love to get a chance to try.
The man who made it was very nice and lives in Ukraine, I think.
Thank you for watching and commenting!!
Another great video. Thank you very much!
Thank you, Stitch! That is very nice! 😀
(The econo line knives had a different packaging and were a little cheaper, but otherwise seem the same as the "normal" ones.)
My sportsman i carry for a long time now has these scales and in my opinion, they do well with scratches and despite the texture wearing away in obvious places i think they do great in the long run.
Nice Video Anne, thanks for sharing it with us.
Did your German Mercator K55K Cat knife come in yet?
JT
Hey JT - it did!! And it's very cool. Understated but protective packaging, interesting outer appearance (which totally is in keeping with my style at times), and a thin knife with a strong lock... I really am happy to have it, and I thank you for directing me to it! I do not get enough time to carry it, though! I sometimes carry 4 knives and tools in me, but there's never enough time... I need to sign it to a video so that I am forced to carry it!
Thanks, JT!
@@thevineclimber
That's awesome, glad you're happy with it.
I hope you'll do a short video review of it.
Have a blessed weekend my friend.

nice ! ive been looking at a work champ type tool for awhile
@@thevineclimber absolutely. the swiss champ just covers so much is hard to ignore, ive been using my cybertool lite for awhile now too
Oh yes, a cybertool lite would do well in an Ikea challenge, too. All the bits, with reach, and a light for working inside a cabinet. A Workchamp strikes me as a good partner to a Cybertool Lite. They make up for each others deficiencies, while each being excellent in its own right, and with different areas of expertise, if you will. That is a cool combination. 😎
Awesome video!
Thanks! It's easier to make a video about an awesome product. I felt lucky to get this holster !
Are you gonna do a review on the workchamp?
Yes, I should totally do that. It's amazing. I have so many ideas...
@@thevineclimberalso the Hercules or perhaps both together...thanks!
@@edgaraquino2324 ooh, that's a good idea - you gave me a reason to buy a hercules!
@@thevineclimber Cool!😊
I wish there was an pouch option for the Victorinox Outrider. Everything I find is either for the Trekker and is too tight or too loose and rattles as I walk.
If you like that holster, go to the same link and he has options for all different layers. My only concern is for the one handed ones.I'd make sure hes aware and able to make those.
I was unaware he made different layer sizes. Last time I browsed his stuff about 1.5 years ago he only offered a 3 layer 111mm size.
Lol!!! It is a very appealing tool. I like the scales, which don't seem to scratch!!
@thevineclimber
Yes, in the 80s and 90s, you could get these scales on the 84 & 91 mm knives they were branded then as the ecoline models!
Generally speaking, a holster is for a handgun! Whereas a"sheath" is used for a knife! That includes a folding knife or a fixed blade knife! 🤔😁
Lol I didn't tell you about the mod on my Workchamp, then....
Freakin’ awesome!!!
Hi Johnny! I love this holster. I may get one for my Forester or my One Handed Trekker, too!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Yeah this is illegal to carry in the uk without good reason the saw is fantastic and the bottle opener is like a giant pry bar
@@thevineclimber See for a saw on a tool it’s huge
I use a mag pouch....
Ripper!
What does that mean?
@@thevineclimber In Aussie it means excellent! :)
These are nylon scales
Thank you!!
I think these scales are much better than the original celidor ones. Not just for grip, but for long term looks and durability.
