Philip Galinsky demonstrates the basic pattern for samba he tends to play on the repinique. It's the same ride featured in "A Basic Pattern for Samba on the Repinique" video except that on every beat 4 of the cycle, you play R-hand (note in center) / R-hand (buzz stroke) / L-hand (open tone).

Good one! I would add to keep the buzz or press roll very short as it helps a lot on the higher tempi.
Also personally not a fan of doing it consistently, prefer jt as a quick variation.

@@MikeHoltackers I agree that keeping the buzz stroke tight helps at faster tempi. Whether to play the buzz consistently or as an occasional variation is, of course, a personal choice. Thanks for your comment.

Hello Phil, can you explain the alternate play in the side of the repinique and the skin?

Sure. I think you mean the "rimshot." That's a stroke in which the stick hits both the head and the rim at the same time. To achieve this, it's helpful to keep the stick more parallel to the head, making contact with the body of the stick, not the tip. By contrast, when playing on the head by itself, the stick tends to approach at more of an angle so that only the tip of the stick makes contact with the head. Hope this helps!
