I've been watching this every night in bed for the past few days. I fall asleep really easily so I only watch 15 minutes before my eyes start closing, and it's been such a pleasure to watch. Really enjoy watching and listening to the commentary. Haven't played this in years and it's such a blast from the past, really interesting and entertaining run. Thanks for posting.

What a run...I honestly didn't know that we can speedrun PvZ. It brings back childhood memories. Great game. Thank you ESA for hosting this beautiful event and contribute to such a noble cause. What an amazing run! It started out slow, both gameplay- and commentary-wise, but boy did it pick up the pace by the end of 1-X! Watched this over a couple of days. Very enjoyable and relaxing second-monitor watch. Huge props to ESA, Deacon and Piig!
I wish UA-cam had a way to toggle commentator audio or game audio with the other audio track still running. So I can leave the game audio running in the background and have the commentator resume automatically when UA-cam is in the foreground.
Casually, chomper does NOT suck. It's one of my main strats as soon as I get it for the exact reason you use it: It's an instant kill, and enough sun lets you replant instant kills that recharge really quick
I think for most people, when playing casually, the idea of digging up or letting die a 150 sun plant is crazy. Once you're comfortable with that, chomper is a great plant.
That version is actually optimal for speedrunning, but I elected to speedrun on the steam version so I could've money glitched for roof cleaners if I didn't get good diamond luck.
Do you have a video? From what I know, like squashes, cherries are invincible once planted, except for Jack-in-the-Boxes. I've planted cherries in survival endless just fine.

Great job to the speedrunner. I didn't even know speedrunning this game was possible. VERY cool! To the co-commentator/voice/whatever... dude... HUSH! This dude LOVES to hear himself talk. To the point that he talks over and INTERRUPTS the speedrunner! I have NEVER seen that happen in a speedrun stream before, absolutely ridiculous. We get that you're (maybe) good at the game, but when the speedrunner wants to talk, curb your ego long enough to HUSH and let him talk. And let him talk until he's FINISHED.
I think there are a couple things at play here. Firstly, I suspect that you feel so strongly because EZPiig's mic was louder than mine, which probably contributes to the perception that he is interrupting me. That's not his fault. The ESA staff is in charge of the audio mixing. Secondly, when doing remote commentary, there is always audio delay, so having two people speak at the same time is unavoidable. You noticed that I always stopped talking when we started speaking at the same time. That's because I do a ton of video-conferencing at work, and this is a habit I developed to avoid being perceived as interrupting somebody. I wasn't always like this; my boss had to explicitly tell me I was doing that before I was able to start training myself not to do that. It's a skill you develop, and someone who is not as experienced with video conferencing will not be aware of it. Thirdly, I actively elected for the dynamic where I would defer to EZPiig for commentary. The reasons are two-fold. One, the run is very stressful, and I've had a hard time solo-commentating this game in the past. Letting EZPiig do the talking lets me focus more on the game without having to multitask as much. Two, I actually got zero sleep the night before, so I had been up for nearly 24 hours by the time the run started and was pretty tired, so I told EZPiig that I would rely on him much more for commentary. So please cut him some slack.
In the case of not getting enough money for glooms/roof cleaners, one could play a puzzle and use the money glitch that is only present in the steam version to get a lot of money very quickly. This run got good diamond luck so that wasn't needed, however.

I’ve come across plenty of annoying commentators, but ezpiig has to be one of the worst. It made it quite hard to enjoy the video when he’d constantly interrupt the runner, go off on unrelated tangents, interrupt the runner a little more, etc. I feel bad for oneeyeddeacon.
The mask is amazing, 2023 and there are still simpletons who don’t understand anything at all about the universe they inhabit. But hey, he can play an IPhone game really fast so what do I know 😂

You can look at data in places like Japan, which has a much higher frequency of masking, and as such, COVID-19 was not nearly as devastating as in the US. It also makes logical sense, since masking obstructs pathways for viruses to enter your body. The spread of diseases is about probabilities, and covering an opening makes it less likely for something to enter. Additionally, other viruses like a cold are usually transmitted by touching your nose or mouth after touching a surface, and covering those openings with a mask makes it less likely for me to do that. Anecdotally, I used to get two colds every year, but since masking more frequently, I've gotten only one in the past 4 years. Masks are also useful for more than just viruses. I get allergies occasionally, and masking helps prevent pollen from getting into my face. And also remember, it's a 9 hour plane flight to and from ESA for me. Being sick on a 9 hour plane ride is not fun. Masking is barely an inconvenience, and if there's any possibility of it reducing the risk of me getting sick before that flight, there's no reason not to do it.

Makes me miss this game, I beat it so many times. Such a shame EA turned this into a pile of trash cash grab and the original dev left because he didn't want to be apart of the garbage. EA ruining our childhood favorites and taking a massive shit on them as usual leaving only the bones left. A good example of an excellent developer and a publisher that needs to taste gasoline.
