Did you know that they made The Killing Kind in less than 5 days? I think that's absolutely insane considering how intricate it is! Also their Phantoms concert was amazing, highly recommend it!
I was so skeptical from the singles they released, and even listening to the first half. This is the song that sold it for me, and made me appreciate it all as a whole. I've been listening to it pretty much every day since it came out, and this song continues to give me chills. I cried on the first listen. the hints around 4:40, and then again at the end with the big "Eleanora", but the chords are slightly changed for this new "era"! UGH. Every album theme is so great. You've probably seen it by now, but they have a behind the scenes on their channel where they discuss it more! :) Loved the video!!
Yes I HAVE seen that behind the scenes 😊 love your comment! I totally continued having those feelings about the melodic “tip of the hats” while listening to it my 2nd and 3rd Times... so grand and epic
4:44 especially your face was mine listening to this. I love your reviews of this album. Feels like someone to discuss this album with who appreciates it like I do. Thanks man!
That’s so sweet Kristin 🤗 Yeah I just wanted to not try to make too much out of the reaction videos. Basically wanted it to be just like listening with friends.
Your reaction when he sang the high notes half way through killed me. I was like ooooooOOOO he don’t even know yet!! 😂 I love this song so much. It reminds me of Bohemian Rhapsody where it has so many different sound styles in it. It sounds like a mesh of several different sounds. You know what I mean??
The Death of Me and The Killing Kind are by far the best on the album. I'm seeing them in Atlanta in 2 WEEKS and probs will cry at everything. They're incredible live.
I think it's safe to say your reaction to the incorporation of Astoria was probably likewise to every fan! Does anyone else hear Ever After-esqe sound when they sing 'evermore'?
I'm in Texas, and Marianas Trench is and always will be one of my favorite bands. Josh's musical talent shines in their work, and Astoria is their best album in my eyes. The Killing Kind blew me away at first listen, I didn't want it to end.
Yeah my first reaction was big for Killing Kind, but now after listening to it a bunch I just loooove rocking out to it on full blast. I can definitely relate to the lyrics too and I think that makes me like it so much.
as a big fan of Marianas Trench, I really enjoyed seeing you react and appreciate this song 😊 Mtrech's music is really so good! thanks so much for this :)
It was all the things. They took the fans on a huge journey with this song, they definitely went huge on his song and tied in so much of the history of the band. For how big this song is it's absolutely amazing, and hopefully they keep making new content for all of us to love.
I loveeeed your reaction, I will see every single one of your series, thanks for doing this, I don't know anyone to share my emotion with, so seeing your face makes me so happy
I’m about to do an update of my thoughts of the album now that We’ve all been listening to it for a month! So I hope you can share in the joy of that too 🙌
omg I almost never comment on anything (especially a year later) but I'm speechless that someone else loves this song (and band) as much as I do. NO ONE I know appreciates them. This makes me want to hang out and jam haha
Love the your videos of the album, I also love the full album because it’s literally a descent into madness, they actually confirmed it in an interview. That’s why there’s the horror element to most of the songs and so much in this one. And you could see it clearly through the last two songs.( which I love the reviews of) but these reviews are amazing and you gained a sub from it 😅🤣
Thanks Jorge! That’s cool to know that they confirmed the descent into madness. There definitely is that build up of a spiral down kind of starting with the beautiful transition at the end of “I knew You when”!
I love Marianas Trench. I love the writing style, the medleys, the callbacks, and the pure musicality that is often left out of mainstream music. It's definitely an emotional experience to listen to an album in one sitting, regardless of which one you pick. However, i won't see them live because of a couple reasons. You miss out on all the instrumentals, harmonies, and editing that really make the album masterful. Also, Josh Ramsay writes harder music than he can actually sing. I don't doubt that he is able to hit everything for the recordings in a closed environment, but the dude repeatedly chokes on high notes and harmonies in every life performance I've seen from him.
I've heard something like that. I suppose it's inevitable when the music is this difficult, but it's a shame - a live performance of something like this which went off perfectly would be incredible.
UA-cam reminded me of this video today, I'd seen it shortly after the album release and now watching it again just brings back that excitement from hearing these new songs for the first time. Your reactions and facial expressions are so cute and happy and almost over-excited, like a kid in a candy store, while also appreciating and commenting on the talent and musicality these guys have and I absolutely love it!! It's nice to see I'm not the only one to get so excited over their stuff, since I don't know anyone around here (The Netherlands) that even knows them. I have been so fortunate to see them live twice now, and I have to say they are one of those rare bands that might be even better live than on the album. Every time I come back to them after not listening to them for a while I continue to be blown away by their talent and how they just keep. getting. better. with each album. Unbelievable. Anyway, thank you for doing this series, your excitement is so infectious (apologies for the word) and heart-warming and respect for being able to hold of on listening to the album the second it came out in order to film these videos.
Well I guess having excitement that is infectious is better than you know what! Thanks for your kind words. It’s been neat to have so many Marianas Trench fans comment and show their love for this music too. I’ll definitely react to whatever comes next for them.
@@ItsLukeTheRose Haha, catching excitement is definitely better than the current alternative! Did you ever get to see them live btw? You mentioned you would try to catch one of their shows...
You had the same reaction as me with that reference to End of an Era, man. I fucking loved it ahahah. I'm seeing them in concert and meeting them this coming Wednesday, I'm STOKED!
I'm fairly sure that you noticed this, but after listening to the whole album my takeaway from the lyrics is that the phantom referenced throughout the entire album is Josh himself. He haunts himself, speaking of past times and what horrors could be to come.
I'm writing this as you said to leave any cool lyric bits down here - the line when he sings "we all float down here" is from Stephen King's "It", it's one of the most famous lines from that book/movie. My sister and I are massive King/It fans, as well as MT fans, so when we heard that line we about lost it lol 😆 have really enjoyed watching your reactions to the album (my face can relate, it was doing the same things as I was listening the first time haha). Been trying for ages to get more people to listen to this band, the musical genius needs to be more widely appreciated 👍🏻
@@jerseyatheart1 oh yes, the "I thrust my fists" line (which as I found out is originally from this cult sci fi novel, Donovan's Brain, really interesting) - loved that MT included those references, very cool
Glad you enjoyed it along with me! I’ve been having a good time the past week listening to all the lyrics more. I can just imagine your reaction to loving both SK and MT!
Oh my gosh you are so cute. Your reaction is priceless and it's probably what I looked like when I first heard this album. I actually got to listen to it a little early and it caught me off guard so I ended up as an emotional wreck in my office at work. All of this is perfect. Did you pick up where he snuck in Masterpiece Theatre though??
Your face 😂💙 I looked more like Kim Kardashian crying the whole time when I listened to it tthe first time lollll Edit: I cry everytime I hear this song and I just cried even more watching you enjoy it lol 💙
As for some lyrics I like, 3:15 Go down below, where children go And we all float down here (IT reference) As for the name of the song, there is a movie from 1973 called "The Killing Kind". It's a horror and a thriller. I won't be putting the summary fully here because it does contain some trigger words so if you want to look it up, keep that in mind. To give a VERY short explanation, a man and returns home from prison and after he returns, women begin disappearing. Weather this movie has anything to do with the song, I can't say. Maybe some of the FBI fans in this fandom can do some research?
I feel like this closer in a way is the polar opposite of Masterpiece Theatre III - whereas there, the second half of it is better, here the first half is better. Both kick all amounts of ass, but if there’s one criticism I have of these closers, it’s that the writing sometimes meanders into lines that don’t quite make sense with the rest of the story in the weaker sections. I understand what that refrain at about 4:00 in the song is going for, but... who said anything about a bottle, and what the hell does this weird nursery rhyme mean? I get the same vibe from Masterpiece Theatre III, where the lyrics don’t really make as much sense together as they’re supposed to until that medley begins about halfway through.
I like your critique... I would agree that that "bottle" lyrics does come off random if we're talking about closers rapping up an album. That introduces a whole other sceme that had not been introduced till then.
@@ItsLukeTheRose Yeah... and also it kind of breaks the narrative immersion, you know? The reference to Eleonora is clever and all, but in comparison to Lover Dearest, a raw and emotionally gripping song about the frontman’s past heroin addiction, the alcohol reference here seems a little forced. Maybe it’s just me, but I also think alcohol is completely incidental to this particular descent into madness, and it’s a bit of a kludgy trope to boot. I get what they’re going for, but descents into madness are far more compelling and IMO far more authentic if it’s just your own thoughts driving you insane.
Did you know that they made The Killing Kind in less than 5 days? I think that's absolutely insane considering how intricate it is! Also their Phantoms concert was amazing, highly recommend it!
I heard that! Which is crazy now that you’ve brought it up again having listened to the song a bunch
Play the ending of “The Death of Me” in reverse. When he whispers, he’s saying “save me from myself”.
