  • A couple of recent outings on the Lower Gallatin river between Manhattan and Missouri river Headwaters (our home stretch). Did pretty well the first day, as the fish were feeding aggressively due to the cooler weather and incoming system. Black size 12 woolly bugger was crushing trout! Second day, I was feeling pretty confident so I selected some larger streamer patterns to target some bigger fish. We were coming out of a weather event, the water had risen a bit and the rain had ever so slightly muddied the water. This may have accounted for the drastic decrease in action compared to the past few days, or the fish were just not committing to the larger streamers I was throwing. Caught my biggest rainbow yet for that stretch, which made up for the lack of hooked fish.
