I've been size 14 UK for at least the last 5 years of my life, though as a middle sized woman: I don't see myself that fat, however. the Mediterranean diet makes me satisfied and lose weight at a slow pace.
UK size 14 sounds like an 'average' body size. There is no need to push yourself to be skinny. Those numbers anyway do not mean anything real. Your waist circumference is a more important indicator of health.
I'm starting to experiment with Greek foods to try and help with digestive issues. Love the colorful foods and aromas. I'm not a fan of wine overall except for blush. For non alcohol drinkers, I'd suggest using sparkling water and making a punch. Or I've started for summer months chilling caffeine free brewed teas. It helps.
Here in South Africa, we mostly use rooibos tea (red bush tea in English) to make iced tea. It is rich in antioxidants and caffeine-free. It has a delicate herbal taste and a pleasant reddish colour, hence the name...I like topping some cooled rooibos tea with a natural juice (one that isn't from a concentrate) or some fresh lemon juice. My one concern is all that pasta in Mediterranean diet. After I stopped taking pasta and eating pizza crusts, and dairy (cheese like ricotta, mozzarella) my sinuses completely clear up and the mucus build-up that I was constantly coughing up ceased...I could breathe again as the phelgm was clearing up. Even a little bit of dairy and cheese will trigger mucus.
Dairy has been linked to increased mucus production. It is hardly surprising that a lot of people cannot digest dairy. Something like 70% of the world population is lactose intolerant. Lactose tolerance is actually a mutation that occurred in the Northern parts of Europe which persisted in some populations. Americans seem to eat a lot more pasta per serving than they do in Italy. If you look at a typical Italian pasta meal, the pasta is more like an accent to the meal than the main focus. instead of having upwards of 100 g of pasta per person, Mediterranean people eat closer to 80 g.
