Pi, if you collect 9 disc fragments, you can craft Music Disc 5. The echo shards are something very useful when you collect 8 of them and a compass. With 8 of those and a compass, you can create a Recovery Compass that points the directions to the location where you died last time. And the swift sneak enchantment can be added to your leggings to sneak faster when you're crouching. That's everything new you can find in the ancient cities.
The mob doesn’t have to die on the catalyst it can die and spread near the catalyst because a sculk catalyst has a specific range for sculk to spread where the mob died
