I was amazed. The Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War anime is the gift that keeps on giving. Renji, a fan favourite character who got sidelined in the manga version of the final stretch of the arc gets a fight against my favourite character in Bleach, Uryu Ishida and he shows more of his Bankai with his opponent countering it with new Quincy abilities. It blew me away! It has made me excited with what Uryu will do next. Even though Renji lost, I am still happy that he got to do something amazing beyond defeating Mask De Masculine.
What's even more crazy about Uryu is that he didn't even use his Schrift against Renji. He just beat him the old classic way. Had Renji seriously injured him, Uryu could have just pulled the Uno Reverse card. I think having Ishida beat Renji without relying on his hacks was a deliberate choice to show just how far he's risen.

I love the new Renji scenes. At least, if he had to lose, they made it worthwhile against the new and vastly improved Uryu with it being good to know Sōō Zabimaru retains enhanced versions of Hihio Zabimaru's techniques plus a few new techniques and Uryu needed his Vollstandig, his Schrift and a couple new techniques as well to win while Renji subconsciously held back to boot. Feder Zwinger (the new Uryu technique that extracts reiatsu from a victim) is German for Feather Kennel and it fits thematically considering Renji is from the Hanging Dog district and has compared himself to a stray dog barking at the moon in the past ("I am really a tramp down to my bones. I hate myself. I bark at the moon, but I don't have the courage to jump and grab it." - Renji Abarai in "A STAR AND A STRAY DOG"). Uryu is an a**hole for placing Renji in a kennel.
@@Mccwith What was that white target that appeared on Renji's chest then? How could Renji escape the destruction of his Soul Sleep without consequence? The power of The Antithesis is to designate any two targets and completely reverse anything that has already occurred between the two of them. @@JackWitt-g9p I was under the impression Uryu did NOT use his schrift either. It did not seem he needed to against Renji BUT now that you have mentioned this theory you have something here. Other people were able to point out that the ending is in reverse which probably alludes to Uryu's shrift. So if you are right what would Uryu have reversed on Renji? The damage? Did he switch what would have happened to Renji with something else? How could he switch the damage of Renji's Soul Sleep before it even occurred? His schrift is a concept so I don't doubt he could do it at all but what is he actually reversing here. Kubo is being really cheeky with his redefined story and it's awesome to have these theories and conversations going on even now with TYBW.
I noticed that when Yhwach was calling out the names of the Shutztaffel, they all showed some type of quincy cross medallion. Gerard, however didn’t show one, instead he put his fist to his chest which i think is symbolizing the cross in his heart.
This man renji went all out, pushing his Bankai and abilities to the limit, yet Uryu’s adaptability was just on another level. It’s not just that Uryu won-it’s how he won. He didn’t just overpower Renji; he dismantled him, mentally and physically, which makes it feel so raw and unforgiving. Renji’s line about Uryu not understanding what “Soul” means-absolutely chilling, and I think it’s going to haunt Uryu later. What hits me hardest is how this arc is forcing us to feel something for Uryu, even as he descends deeper into darkness. The hate you mentioned? Yeah, it’s there, but there’s still a sliver of hope he can claw his way back. Or maybe that’s just wishful thinking. Either way, this episode? Easily a 10/10. Masterpiece!
The only thing I would feel for Uryu at this point is real mistrust and betrayal. He went into the darkness with his eyes open. No wonder Ywach likes him so much, he sees a lot of himself in Uryu. He knew the boy would ruthlessly take down the shinigami in his stead just by giving him the power up that his dad never did.
@ I feel you on the betrayal, but that’s what makes Uryu’s arc hit so hard. He *chose* the darkness, and yeah, it’s ruthless-but that’s what makes him such a wild card. Yhwach didn’t just give him a power-up; he tapped into Uryu’s bitterness, his isolation, his need to prove himself, and twisted it into something terrifying. That’s why Uryu feels so dangerous-he’s not mindlessly following orders; he’s calculating. But here’s the thing: does he stay like this? Or is all this ruthlessness just a front to tear Yhwach down from the inside? Either way, he’s walking a razor’s edge, and I’m hooked.
Uryu defeated Senjumaru, Ichigo and Renji in just one cour. Insane. Bro really popped off 3 cours later of this arc. And before people start complaining and doubting about Uryu's power scaling, dude was captain level during the soul society arc (defeating mayuri) and reached espada level in power during the hueco mundo arc (defeating cirucci). Its not shown a lot but he trained a lot. So by the time the tybw arc started, uryu was already at captain/espada level at that point. After he drank yhwach's blood, received his schrift and became a sternritter, that boosted his powers and overall stats by 10 times, reaching squad zero level. That's why yhwach wanted him to join and promoted him to level of his schulzstaffel. That's proven when he can now kill senjumaru, a squad zero member, defeat ichigo (literally a soul king candidate trained by squad zero) and renji, also trained by them.
I agree and disagree. Squad zero level is a stretch. Even after drinking the blood and using ashuwalen uryu still wasn’t touch squad zero level. It was only after yhwach activated almighty that uryu started going crazy and that seems to be when he unlocked his vollstanding. And even then I’d say he more so caught senjumaru off guard with his shcrift . With ichigo, ichigo was obviously holding back that’s not even a question. Now with renji imo if was the best fight showcasing uryus powers. The insane usage of blut and his ability to absorb reishi. He’s definitely a top tier and is getting the light he deserves
Defeating ichigo is a stretch, Ichigo could literally one-shot Ishida with HoS. Senjumaru, maybe.. i think they are quite equal post-Auswahlen. Renji definitely weaker than Ishida though, not much, but definitely.
@@thegreatleaderjimpickens7919 ichigo activated HoS after making one of his swords resonate with yhwach to awaken that "quincy blood" and calling out the hollow to the the white sword and the horn, not something he could do like a bankai as ichigo's quincy blood has only activated when its with yhwach yet not other quincys

Uryu states that Renji unconsciously wasn’t trying to kill him. So even if Renji was consciously trying to kill him, he wasn’t truly trying to kill him.
Uryu is lying, he cant read minds and jugram is watching him. Renji used literally everything he had against him. (ichibeis flashback proved so) He even used a technique which took down a mask D (defeated 2 captains ) and turned him to nothing but ash. He was even surprised that Uryu survived it, Renji was going for the kill. Uryu is actively saving his friends hes just a really good spy..... Let's be honest. Renji is stupid strong and nobody can take that away after this episode basically did justice to his entire character. He is probably the strongest lieutenant almost undeniably at this point. Renji isn't beating Uryu. Especially when Uryu could use his schrift to basically negate anything that happened to him. So if you think about it did Renji ever really stand a chance? Probably not. Was their fight insanely entertaining? Hell yeah! I can imagine Renji was subconsciously holding back slightly not to kill Uryu. He didn't know how powerful Uryu had become and it would be hard to go all out against a former comrade. Uryu's new power might have analyzed he was holding back being why he said that. It was a 10/10 episode great anime only fight.
Uryu finally evened the score from their first encounter just before the soul society arc. Kubo really does love us, this is the sort of extra material we need from anime rather than just filler (not that filler is always bad.)

It's really interesting, cuz in the manga, Uryu only had 2 fights, technically 3, but in this season alone he's had an extra TWO and an extended Ichigo fight 😭
I mean, Renji literally used Zagga Teppo on Uryu, it's a technique that literally disintegrates matter on an atomic level... Had Uryu not used Blut Vene, he'd be dead. So you saying you hate Uryu for "hurting his friends" in regards to him piercing Renji's Chain Of Fate, to me doesn't make sense... I understand why you're saying that, but to me, this moment has been built up to... Uryu isn't faking anything, he's just conflicted and it reflects in his Vollstandig. Subtextual stuff. But not once did Renji call Uryu, well, Uryu... All he saw was "Quincy" and so the third reason for his loss being that he's a Shinigami that Uryu despises makes sense. They didn't fight as friends, but as Quincy and Shinigami and they both understood that their lives were at stake and still engaged in battle. It's not like Uryu snuck him and took him out or something dishonourable like what Askin did to Grimmjow, he faced him head on and won... It is what it is!
Blut vene has become the largest asspull in Bleach. Ichigo didn't die to Yhwach in his first battle because of Blut Vene. Ichigo didn't die against Uryu because Blut Vene randomly activated. Now Uryu surviv'd an atomizing attack because he us'd Blut Vene. It's nonsense.
@Mozartmeh Is it an asspull because It didn't make sense or you didn't like it. Ichigo was technically going to survive anyway. And it made sense why it. Ichigo literally got hit by Uryu's Sklaverei Volstandich arrows, and it it did nothing that was for the sole purpose of showing uryu Ichigo is a Quincy. Also, where did people get the information that Renji's attack is atomic.

As far as senjumaru, he had no relationship w her and she was ancient so I'm sure he had no qualms about actually killing her for her role in exterminating the Quincy. I love how he can detach parts of his bankai like the Skull and spinal cored and use it in a similar way to his old bankai and even light it on fire or detach the fur on the arm to grow new arms. Kubo and the Studio cooked with this fight even though Renji lost .
I always liked it functionality wise, but the size made it slow and clunky. This version is so much better, definitely one of the coolest Bankais
Basically renji is the Vegeta of the series.
I hated how it lost the ability to extend in the manga, but I love what they did with this fight.
@undeade.t7044 that shit with the hairs blew my mind. I was expecting him to attack with razor sharp hairs, but making arms come out was so much better.
Talk about a glow up. That bankai instantly went up in style points after seeing just how versatile it is.
that 5 arrow move that finished renji is like the kido byakuya used against renji when he was trying to save rukia back then, the style of it

So just because his grandfather was killed by hollows, he hates all soul reapers. No wonder Ryuken calls him immature and stupid. @longquan886 His grandpa was actually killed by giant hollows. He was supposed to have soul reaper assistance, but they didn't arrive until after he was killed. When Uryu fought Mayuri Kurotsuchi, Mayuri revealed the delay of assistance was his doing, so he can study Uryu's grandpa's body.

Finally My GOAT Uryu getting his respects he deserves I cannot wait for him to have more action

Correction he didn’t use his schrift
@@Mccwith What was that white target that appeared on Renji's chest then? How could Renji escape the destruction of his Soul Sleep without consequence? The power of The Antithesis is to designate any two targets and completely reverse anything that has already occurred between the two of them. I believe Renji withstood the attack on his Hakusei due to the subtle use of The Antithesis and then Renji fell unconscious from having his reiatsu drained by the Feder Zwinger.
@JackWitt-g9p they still need Renji for the hell arc and his spiritual pressure to produce a powerful daughter with rukia.
@@matthewallen2273 Which is why I firmly believe we saw a subtle use of Uryu's schrift to save him at the end there.

The best part of the episode is the jiggle physics on Orihime

That means we might get Yoruichi butt physics in cour 4 :O
This fight was so good, but now Renji fans are gonna be pissed at Uryu forever.
I have so much more respect for Renji now, holy crap. That was some of the best fighting animation I've seen in a long while.
This was the one of the best episodes in Bleach history they’ve outdone themselves for cour 3 thus far. Can’t wait to see future episodes.
Either way, he’s walking a razor’s edge, and I’m hooked.
finaly they did uryu some justice, he should be toe to toe with ichigo
@@thegreatleaderjimpickens7919 One shot is false. You clearly base uryu's power on the manga only, ignoring his new powers and scrift, not to mention his crown. @@damaniherrington4170 So if i catch you off guard and win, its a loss? That logic is insane. This is the problem with the fandom. Stop basing fight purely on strength. Uryu got triggered by Senjumaru’s anti-Quincy rhetoric and been on that f a shinigami ishh ever since 😭😭😭
Uryu states that Renji unconsciously wasn’t trying to kill him. So even if Renji was consciously trying to kill him, he wasn’t truly trying to kill him.
Uryu is lying, he cant read minds and jugram is watching him. Renji used literally everything he had against him. (ichibeis flashback proved so)
He even used a technique which took down a mask D (defeated 2 captains ) and turned him to nothing but ash. He was even surprised that Uryu survived it, Renji was going for the kill.

Hell yeah! Uryu can always just do what happened in the manga to a certain antagonist that has been mentioned.

No, I can see them brute force through the map at the end until they meet each other 😂
I can imagine Renji was subconsciously holding back slightly not to kill Uryu. He didn't know how powerful Uryu had become and it would be hard to go all out against a former comrade. Uryu's new power might have analyzed he was holding back being why he said that. It was a 10/10 episode great anime only fight.

Uryuu is definitely not trying to kill if he were he would have used his shrift that would have been a bloodbath
It does where did you find that info?
Blut vene has become the largest asspull in Bleach. Ichigo didn't die to Yhwach in his first battle because of Blut Vene. Ichigo didn't die against Uryu because Blut Vene randomly activated. Now Uryu surviv'd an atomizing attack because he us'd Blut Vene. It's nonsense.
@Mozartmeh
Is it an asspull because It didn't make sense or you didn't like it.
@@RandomGuy-ci9nt It's an asspull because it didn't make sense. Ichigo's Blut Vene only activates when he's going to be defeated but not for minor injuries.

i do think ichigo fight lacked the camera creativity. Kinda felt like they are seeing what works in an episode and then it HITS it in the next. Ichigo's fight will hopefully be the baseline of creativity in camera angles, animation
this means that Uryu fought Ichigo in Vollstandig + Sklave Rai, whereas when he used that form vs Renji he negged him.
@Flame of Rebirth do you think the Ending theme scenes were reversed to hint at Uryu Ishida using this Antithesis or something else?
I pray that this isn't the end of Renji and his powers because I still really want that moment between him and Ichigo to happen at some point.

Yo like fr fr they was cooking with this last episode, can't wait for the next few coming episodes 😱🥰
Did you remove your live reaction?!?!!
Noooo I missed ittt
sick episode
This was a get back from the start of the series!
Why was this episode called Gate of the Sun, btw, it's not like the main focus. Great episode btw
Because Gate of the Sun is the title of manga chapter 629. And with all the original content, 629 is basically the only chapter this episode adapts. Though it does include some scenes from later chapters (specifically Lille sniping the Shinigami).
I also think they probably just came up with the idea for the title card and thought it was really cool (which it was)
