I wouldn't say they are beginning it. In order for them to continue on with the movies, they have to win the movie night polls. They aren't going to make executive decisions (yet) to watch them all. @@natecloe8535 I enjoyed the Reacher Movies with Cruise. Yeah nowhere near the novels description but he owns the role. Look at all the actors who portrayed Bond, each believable as a continuation of the same character.
@@krayzy932, well, from what Steven said in a livestream, they’ll do 2 and 3 in an executive decision type of way. Then if they aren’t liking the movies, they’ll rely on the polls. That's why I consider the two tv series and movies to be separate universes. In my mind, Jim Phelps from the tv series would not do what he did in the movies. And without spoiling anything else, there's something that happens later in the movies that further solidifies my theory.
That "something that happens later in the movies" to me, justifies Jim's actions, especially with you-know-who being in charge of the IMF before his return in Dead Reckoning.

These movies remind me of the Fast & Furious. The Fast & Furious movies escalated in action and other stuff (being over the top) that when you watch the first Fast & Furious, it seems so simple and "small." Plus feels like a 100-minute introduction/prologue to the characters. The first movie feels so uneventful now. Same thing happened with Mission Impossible. They get so big that when you go back to the first movie, it's "small" and almost uneventful. Plus throw in the cast is kind of small too (for Fast & Furious and Mission Impossible). More characters get added as the movies go on and the cast gets bigger because new characters join the main cast.
Great reaction! It's kind of crazy to me how many people have never even seen the Mission Impossible movies given how insanely popular they've gotten over time.
It's the most baffling franchise to me because it is the best case of quality not translating to popularity. This should easily be a billion dollar franchise by now but weirdly there isn't a huge fanbase even after all these years. Fast And Furious has a bigger fanbase interestingly.
The helicopter/train sequence is one of my favorite action sequences of all time. All the more impressive that they're not having much of a fight, mostly just hanging on for dear life.

It does match the tv series at almost perfect beat and Cruise becomes the consummate stunt performer as he is today. . The theme by Lalo Scrifrin is so timeless with Intrigue and excitement. Adam Clayton & Larry Mullen from the group, U2 did the new version of it. The great Brian DePalma as director never missed his mark on this. The reruns resurged on FX, the film k.o.'d the box office and Cruise most definitely had a franchise. Couldn't wait for more of the impossible. Personally, I loved the video games and The Ethan Hunt Chronicles comic-book series that followed.
Well, I wouldn't say they are starting. As in spending the next 6-7 weeks/movies nights in a row watching them. They'll only continue (for now) if the movies win in the movie night poll. Been on a Tom Cruise movie marathon recently in celebration of the new MI film, which was absolutely amazing, & this is such a classic and iconic film. So glad you're startin this franchise, it just gets better and better from here. The best action franchise out there, Tom Cruise is the MAN ✊🏻
This is easily one of the greatest action series of all time. Tom Cruise is fantastic, the stunts he preforms are fantastic, the whole thing is fantastic. So excited to watch you enjoy all the movies
I just watched all the movies for the first time and man was I missing out. I'd say from the 3rd film and on just getter better and better. Tom cruise stunts are insane!
I disagree. The first one is probably the best. No other Mission Impossible has this Spy feeling, tension and Cinematagrophy. They are more Action focussed and funny. The second movie is also s lot of fun. Unpopular opinion. MI4 is the weakest.
When I was a kid, I thought it was him, but I wasn't 100% sure. I recalled a couple other actors at the time sort of looked and sounded like him. Plus I think I asked around (parents, my older sister, classmates, teachers, etc.) and people said it wasn't him and it was someone else (forgot the names they said).
Great reaction you two! 😊 This is one of my favorite Tom Cruise movies, and one of my favorite movie franchises. Since neither of you have seen very many Tom Cruise movies, I very highly recommend some of his earlier films: "The Outsiders" and "Risky Business" both from 1983, "Cocktail" and "Rain Man" both from 1988, and "The Color of Money" from 1986. Looking forward to the next reaction. 😊
@@BenSlashes, I just re-watched MI2 recently (I want to say July 24th or 25th, maybe early morning on the 26th since I'm a night owl). The only fun I had watching it is the last 20 minutes. Everything before that is a snoozefest. Plus I don't like that the movie tries to turn Ethan Hunt into some action hero like I'm watching a Stallone or Arnold movie. Plus it REALLY seems off with knowing the direction they go in with the character in 3 thru 7. 2 just seems out of place. I did like the last 20 minutes or so of MI2, but at the same time, it was still off. As I'm having fun with that last 20 minutes, I'm still asking/saying at the same time "What is this? This isn't the Ethan Hunt I know. What I'm watching belongs in an action movie starring Stallone or Arnold."
Nikki you would LOVE the Bourne movies! They were MY MOM'S favorites! She loved her fighting movies! Rest her soul. Her mother did too. My Nana. 😊 I remember her almost falling off the couch laughing at the Mr. Miyagi / Kreese "honk" scene in KK2! Steven, LOVE the shirt!
43:50 The wide shot where the bullet train is first shown is not a model and not a fake bullet train. It's the French TGV. This highspeed train was introduced in 1981. Later iterations reached travel speeds up 320km/h (200mp/h). The shot in the movie was probably taken while the train crosses the Cize-Bolozon viaduct.
When Jim Phelps was revealed as the villain, people were upset. Because they watched the TV series and screamed Phelps would never do that. This just introduced a new character of Ethan Hunt 😊
So excited that you are finally here!! Fabulous all the way. It gets better after #2. Gets more gritty. The cast you will clap for every time. I've been a TC fan since January 1st 1981!! Let's rock this journey.
Hope you guys do the whole franchise. (6 movies), and nr.7 is up and running on the teatres right now!! 1996-2023.....how about that? 😊 If you just muddle through the second movie which is -"meh". From nr.3 and onwards it's a journey you don't want to miss. Greetings from Sweden 😊💙💛
For now, things are just going to depend on the movie night polls. I hope the movies keep winning the polls though. And if they do, hopefully by the time they get to the 6th movie, the 7th one will be on streaming and/or Blu-Ray.
I was giggling at all your jokes regarding how old school the technology they were using - all the while thinking what you would say about the spools of tape and so on in the 1960s Mission Impossible series.
I grew up watching reruns of the old Mission: Impossible TV show in syndication, so when this movie came out I was super excited to go see it. I can count the number of movies I've gone to see in the theatre on opening night on the fingers of one hand, and this is one of them. Every time the Mission: Impossible theme started playing, the whole theatre went wild, it was great!
One of the funniest things I’ve seen in the cinema happened watching this film when theme music come on this random guy literally dived about 3 rows of seats and scurried up the aisle very bizarre but very funny
I'm going to enjoy this watch-along. Love this franchise and I still really love this first one and remember seeing it at the cinema with my mum on release. When the team die at the start it was such a shock, especially Kristen Scott Thomas who was a big name then. Plus it's fun it ends on the train going into the Channel Tunnel (connects UK and France) as at the time, that tunnel was still fairly new. Great direction too.
No doubt, this one is my personal favorite. I'm currently watching everything right now. But the first one still had a special place in my heart. So slick, so cool.
Man weekly movie night with Nikki and Steven just got me through 4 weeks of being in a rehab facility alcohol & opiate withdrawals, I'm not kidding, it gave me something to look forward to every week, and I'll say it again, thank you for ACTING LIKE ADULTS AND NOT CENSORING YOURSELVES! IT MAKES YOU BOTH SEEM REAL! I love you both so much. Cutest couple of the react community.
Not sure if this was mentioned but the Bourne movies are based on books that came out in the 80s. Certainly the success of the earlier MI movies could've been the catalyst for the adaptions, though. Love the reactions. :)
Tom Cruise movie to watch: Risky Business, Cocktail, Rain Man, Days of Thunder, Far and Away, A Few Good men, The Firm, Interview With a Vampire, Minority Report, The Last SAmurai, Collateral, War of the Worlds, Tropic Thunder, Valkyrie, Jack Reacher, OIblivion are the one that you must see!!!!
I love all the recent MI movies but this is still my favourite. I just love the old school espionage feel with the double crosses, mystery to solve and that utterly brilliant heist sequence at Langley. Brian De Palma knocked it out of the park for me.
Born on the Fourth of July is a great Tom Cruise drama film about the Vietnam War and a young man trying to come home again when everything about him is now different from his wartime experiences. I highly recommend it!
at the end of the movie they are on a highspeed train, running from London to France, a variation of this train set a Speedrecord of 574 Kmh wich comes to roughly 356 Mph, normal operating speeds is anywhere between 160 and 320 Kmh depending on speedlimits for the tracksection. This Record stood till 2015 when a Japanese train set a new record of 603Kmh/374Mph
Well, they aren't exactly starting them. For now, everything depends on the results of movie night polls. They aren't making an executive decision (yet) to spend the next 6-7 weeks/movie nights in a row reacting to all of them. They'll be putting MI2 in a poll. If it wins, they'll watch it. If not, the next movie reaction will be something else. But they are taking things a movie at a time and relying on members and Patreon to vote for the movie and make it the winner. If I had to predict, maybe no executive decision until after the third or fourth movie at the earliest.
Magnolia is one of Tom cruise best movies which had an all star cast. He won a golden globe(best supporting actor) in 2000 for Magnolia. The Bourne movies are based on the Bourne book series. Maybe the writer got inspiration from the old mission impossible tv series.
Well, I wouldn't say they are starting. For now, they just watched the first movie. Everything though depends on members and Patreon to vote for the sequels in the movie night polls. If not, the next movie reaction/movie night could be something completely different. The earliest I see them making an executive to watch the rest of the movies in a row is maybe the third or fourth movie. It's definitely not going to happen after 2 since that's considered the worst one, although it's always possible for Nikki and Steven to like something that majority of people don't. Maybe something in 2 will click for them that doesn't click for others. We'll see. I know I disagree a lot with Nikki and Steven on movies.
The screw unscrews it from above the grille. The contraption that you see appearing is just a magnet to catch the screw and prevent it from falling to the ground by triggering the alarm. No sci-fi gizmos.
This movie is based on the 1960 tv show which is based on the few times the C.I.A. used Hollywood personnel to assist in some missions that included prosthetic mask and heavy make up.
One of the interesting trivia bits here is that only the good guys are using Macs - bad guys use Windows. This was a requirement from Apple to use their hardware in the movie, and continues today.
You guys would love *Far and Away (1992).* Young Tom Cruise, young Nicole Kidman, historical adventure directed by Ron Howard, it's a win on so many levels.
I'm so glad y'all are starting this series. Hopefully y'all continue with them. This is is still my favorite one. It's not saying the others are good or great but i semi remember seeing this movie back then in 96 with my mom and it still feels as cool watching today. Definitely dated on the graphics but despite knowing what happens, it still hooks me. Also, interesting probability I've always thought of. Ethan is REAAALLY lucky Krieger dropped that knife because he was probably going to kill Ethan when he made it back up
The Bourne Movies were based on the Books by Robert Ludlum. The Bourne Identity was published in 1980, Bourne Supremacy published in 1986, Bourne Ultimatum Published in 1990
Great reaction, finally covering the best action franchise and my favourite too! Can't wait for the rest! The first one is so intense and suspenseful with the vault heist being a particular iconic highlight of the franchise they're all top movies imo including the lesser popular ones such as MI2.
I love this movie series, my dad is in love with tom cruise. We would and still go to watch all the tom cruise movies together in the theaters. Whenever I see tom cruise I just think of my dad and all the good memories.
Great fun, great reaction. As someone who lived these 'old' movies in real time, I highly recommend Armageddon. One of those big, epic movies, lots of feels, an old school Michael Bay, laughter, tears, explosions, save the world. I think you'd love it and the reaction would be very fun.
Remember, this film set the bar for stunt work by Tom Cruise. He actually DID the stunt work on top of a 200 mph train. And it just escalated from there.
Probably important to note, the movies are based on the popular TV series from the 60's...which included the theme song. In fact, Phelps, the character who turns out to be the villain of this movie, was the main character of the TV series.
Another awesome reaction. Here's hoping you two will continue reacting to the "Mission: Impossible" franchise with "Mission: Impossible II" {2000}, "Mission: Impossible III" {2006), Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" {2011}, "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" {2015}, "Mission: Impossible - Fallout" {2018}, and "Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One {2023} & Part Two {June 28, 2004}", Nikki & Steven.
There is something that makes this movie a ton more fun than the rest... not to say the others are bad (they aren't they are amazing... 2 eh lol) but there is something fun that basically encourages the audience to play along with everything that you don't get in the sequels. Also, Vanessa Redgrave as Max is one of the best minor roles of all time... so much so they have a character in the new films that is all but confirmed to be her daughter.
FUI: that this will self destruct well the whole Mission Impossible movie is well from the 60s TV series, for fans of the TV show how they portrayed Jim Phelps was a "sticking" point - I felt not good but had to realize this is an homage to the TV series and an introduction to the reboot. Awesome reaction guys as usual hope you continue the rest of the franchise. :)
The Mission Impossible tv show was around my time so the movie was even more enticing when it was young Tom Cruise. They even remixed the theme song and it jammed.
Haven't seen it mentioned in the comments, but Emilio Estevez was at the height of his career, so they purposely hired him for a character they knew they were going to kill off in the opening scene to make it that much more shocking and unexpected. That makes the statement right at the beginning that this movie will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Excited for y'all to get through this franchise! It's a fuckin blast one of the best action movies made. Mission Impossible 3-7 are bonkers!
Well, I wouldn't say they are starting. As in spending the next 6-7 weeks/movies nights in a row watching them. They'll only continue (for now) if the movies win in the movie night poll. MI2 will probably be in the next movie night poll, but everything will depend on those that can vote if they continue on. MI2 might be iffy in the poll since it's considered the worst Mission Impossible movie. MI2 could derail stuff before they begin. We'll see.
The second one was bonkers
Been on a Tom Cruise movie marathon recently in celebration of the new MI film, which was absolutely amazing, & this is such a classic and iconic film. So glad you're startin this franchise, it just gets better and better from here. The best action franchise out there, Tom Cruise is the MAN ✊🏻
Someone on social media pointed out that Tom Cruise is now older than Jon Voight when this movie came out and I had to go sit down.
Can't wait for you to watch the rest of them , incredible franchise
Tom Cruise stopped chasing Oscars and dedicated himself to one of the best and consistent action franchises ever
One of the best in the franchise and what a way to start from start to finish
Well now you gotta watch the whole franchise. No going back now. Lol
I had honestly forgotten that Emilio Estevez was in this movie. He's such an underrated actor, but I've always liked him.
Mission Impossible and Nikki and Steven reacts? Perfect match.
Great reaction you two! 😊
This is one of my favorite Tom Cruise movies, and one of my favorite movie franchises.
They should see the hustler before the colour of money
My mum and I saw this at the cinema and it was so brilliant on the big screen. Still love this one today.
Once you get to the 3rd movie and up its becomes the best series of movies ever, just get passed the 2nd
Its already the best with the first two. Two is so fun.
MI4 is my least favorite
Agree!!!
I don't know why they would think that
So happy your watching the mission impossible films, I watch them myself before dead reckoning.
we can't wait for the new one to show up on digital
Thanks :) I really enjoyed this reaction. I hope that you do the whole series .
If you just muddle through the second movie which is -"meh".
From nr.3 and onwards it's a journey you don't want to miss.
Greetings from Sweden 😊💙💛
They keep getting better and better. Greetings friend🤘🤘
For now, things are just going to depend on the movie night polls. I hope the movies keep winning the polls though. And if they do, hopefully by the time they get to the 6th movie, the 7th one will be on streaming and/or Blu-Ray.
Hello Sweden!! Totally agree with your post. Fabulous all the way. 👏👏👏 Cheers from Nova Scotia 😁
one of the very very rare series that gets better with each installement
You guys are going to LOVE this franchise! They get better and better with every sequel! Well 2 is so so but not bad.
2 is good not so so
@@jamesmeechan6983 🕊 🔥 💨
I was giggling at all your jokes regarding how old school the technology they were using - all the while thinking what you would say about the spools of tape and so on in the 1960s Mission Impossible series.
Fun fact- in Morse code m is dash dash and I is dot dot. So the theme song, dun dun dah dah , represents mi over & over.
I love see you guys enjoying and having good time watching movies classics, allows me to revive my experience when I saw them first time
I grew up watching reruns of the old Mission: Impossible TV show in syndication, so when this movie came out I was super excited to go see it. I can count the number of movies I've gone to see in the theatre on opening night on the fingers of one hand, and this is one of them. Every time the Mission: Impossible theme started playing, the whole theatre went wild, it was great!
Hell yeah! I love a good Mission Impossible journey, you’ll love the more recent ones!
So stocked for this!!!!!!
Love love love this series! And it only gets better with time!!!! Can’t wait to see y’all react to the rest!!!!! 😆
I grew up in 50's&60's with Mission Impossible. I would sneak watch them and the reruns for years. ❤
One of the funniest things I’ve seen in the cinema happened watching this film when theme music come on this random guy literally dived about 3 rows of seats and scurried up the aisle very bizarre but very funny
I really love watching movies with you guys, the comments and banter is sometimes even better than the movie. (luggage and skin care 😋)
Number 1 love you guys never seen either so I'll watch with you guys for the first time also
No doubt, this one is my personal favorite.
I saw this in the theater. That tunnel scene was CRAZY!!!!
Great reaction! Besides the second one, ALL of the MI movies are amazing and keep getting better and better. I definitely suggest doing them all.
You are saying the 2nd one is bad but it's not
Yes! Watch the whole franchise! It's one of my favorite franchises of any genre!
56:39 He stabbed the rat with the knife. That's why he had it out.
I am so excited to watch this film series with you both! I can't believe you two have never seen any of them!
@@reaps8807 thanks for explaining!👍 I am hopeful that eventually they will get around to watching them all.
Magnolia is one of Tom cruise best movies which had an all star cast. He won a golden globe(best supporting actor) in 2000 for Magnolia. The Bourne movies are based on the Bourne book series. Maybe the writer got inspiration from the old mission impossible tv series.
I'm glad you started this series! #2 is a big dropoff IMO, but #3 through present are great!
The 2nd film was good
@@jamesmeechan6983 agreed. Sick and tired of everyone hating on 2 when it's still one of the most fun stylish action movies around.
Hope you guys go through them all. They are So good! Keep em coming guys... ✌️👍
52:49 "I'm gonna miss being' disreputable." 😆 Probably the best line right there.
The screw unscrews it from above the grille. The contraption that you see appearing is just a magnet to catch the screw and prevent it from falling to the ground by triggering the alarm. No sci-fi gizmos.
Dead Reckoning has so many call backs to this first movie. I'd recommend seeing it while this one is still fresh in your minds.
I hope they see it but they should watch them in order
Guys, the bourne movies are based off of some very popular novels by the exact same name written by Robert ludlam
The Bourne Identity was published in 1980, Bourne Supremacy published in 1986, Bourne Ultimatum Published in 1990
Sure, but Bourne Identity bore about a 50% resemblance to the book and the sequels fully departed from the books.
Excited for you to do Mission Impossible 3 and beyond!
Having tasted the goods. Cracks me up every time 😂
Great fun, great reaction. As someone who lived these 'old' movies in real time, I highly recommend Armageddon. One of those big, epic movies, lots of feels, an old school Michael Bay, laughter, tears, explosions, save the world. I think you'd love it and the reaction would be very fun.
I worked that summer at AMC Theaters. it was insane!
The Craft
Mission Impossible
Independence Day
Busy times.....
Remember, this film set the bar for stunt work by Tom Cruise. He actually DID the stunt work on top of a 200 mph train. And it just escalated from there.
I'm so happy, you will love this and yes Nikki's dad jokes enhance the channel so much :D
Also MI 2 while really fun is the weakest of the series, it ramps back up after that.
Nikki recognises Emilio Estevez immediately.
Everyone: Don’t get comfortable…
FUI: that this will self destruct well the whole Mission Impossible movie is well from the 60s TV series, for fans of the TV show how they portrayed Jim Phelps was a "sticking" point - I felt not good but had to realize this is an homage to the TV series and an introduction to the reboot.
Awesome reaction guys as usual hope you continue the rest of the franchise. :)
Great movie! Fantastic franchise! #2 gets alot of undeserved hate imo but it has the best soundtrack of the series and top 5 all time! :)
It also gets a lot of deserved hate. Horrible film.
The Mission Impossible tv show was around my time so the movie was even more enticing when it was young Tom Cruise. They even remixed the theme song and it jammed.
Finally a movie reaction again. Miss you two when you only do series. Thanks
we post a movie reaction every week - glad your excited for MI
What they had Ethan Hunt put on his head was an old-fashioned ski-mask with the eyes and mouth sewn shut. Perfectly acceptable tech for the period.
