Definitely the best version out of all the 'rock stars' imho. Anyone can duplicate Slash's or Metallica's, but to create it and make it sound your own .... Zakk is the winner
omg listening to this gave me goosebumps... i seen him play this at the free ozzfest some years back in San Bernardino... very well done zakk ur a god.. i bow to u sir
@shadowari92 Take into consideration that this is a 240p rip of a rip of a rip of a rip from a Video cassette. The quality of the live thing must have been a zillion times better.
@REDHOTCHILIPEPPERS Not even close. And did anyone truly mistake this for another song? All the comments about not hearing the melody are ridiculous. You may not like this version (which is totally fine) but "Can't hear the melody?" Really? Comment wasn't directed at his age, just at the disrespect shown. The anthem belongs to all of us and anybody can play it however they choose. It's a deeply personal song for many. Jimi was vilified for his version which is now considered a classic.
I think slash's version where he does the canadian anthem too is the best of em all. Don't get me wrong though, Zakk's version is kick ass, and in no way insulting our country, ever heard Jimi's version, never heard anybody say he was insulting the country.
Amongst the rock players most of these guitar players were influenced, by Page, Clapton, Beck, Hendrix, etc. they also listened to McLaughlin. Since Hendrix was more famous, flashier to watch and more "SELLABLE" in terms of what he did on stage, most guitar players were influenced by Hendrix, because they would take the Hendrix flashiness and attach speed, which Hendrix wasn't a fast player and they put it to rock grooves, hence metal and hard rock with shredding guitar licks.
To each his own. Reminds me of an organist I heard once in a country church. If you didn't know what the hymn was that she was attempting to play, you never would have guessed it. No, not really! (For Zakk) Context for the occasion helps, though.
@amccoll20893 agreed but if you look at the guitarists that are still with us today he is probable the best. although lately is stuff sounds all the same but back when no rest and no more tears came out with ozz he was god
exactly my thoughts. I like Jimi but his version of the national anthem is basically only remembered for the time, place, and meaning that surrounded it. Because as far as musical composition goes, it sounds horrible, and he kinda meant for it too.
I AM A GUITAR PLAYER! and let me tell you... the playing in itself was amazing and possibly flawless (it's hard to tell). But you guys are right... way too many effects. Too much distortion, crappy use of the wah, and something else I can't put my finger on cuz my computer's sound system sucks. But hey, good effort on zakk's part.
i didnt say they were classically oriented i just said influenced by classical. and they mock jazz music and its pretty fucking funny. you need to be shown a lesson. welcome to rock.
all yanks have alot to learn about taste but i did not say "you suck"this dude is and did display a bit to much of his own thing over your anthem but aint that just being innotivive?hes amazing
I only recently discovered Zakk and was blown away by his performance of the national anthem. The thing is, musicians must be given freedom to interpret music as the creative force moves them. Zakk's was passionate and well-done. Kudos to the man!
HallowedIntent dude that is so true yeah malmsteen has technical speed and all that but i would rather have tonality and soulness in my playing such as the late DIMEBAG DARRELL RIP
Zakk kicks ass on this... The disrespect shown by what is professional athletes turning and talking and laughing is a disgrace... They would piss their diapers if they had to protect our great nation and our way of life like our true warriors in our armed forces do every single day. THANK YOU to our veterans and men and women who proudly serve!!!!
wow worst way to play a national anthem he totally butchered it reminds me of kirk when he plays his solo's now adays fuck zakk you might be better than me but let me give you once piece of advice lay off the wah wah and imper vision take it or leave it
people, satriani, vai, wylde and hendrix's version of the star spangled banner are totally different because this guitarist have their own unique style of playing. You can't blame them if they added something to the song, it's not an insult.
The guy below who said this was just a load of noise is, I think correct. Zakk over-did this performance, sounded to 'all over the place'. He has done much better.
@Timo4slash dude be proud to be canadian, overall canadians have a better life, we have FREE healthcare. On most lists canada is ranked higher then america in terms of life quality and friendlines of people, in both world wars canada was fighting with everyone else since the day the wars started, america wasn't even involved in world war 1 they were involved in world war 2 closer to the end of after THEY got hit. And don't get me started on the vietnam war.
@frankisfunny2007 i know man, and he may have very well been the best guitarist OF HIS TIME you are correct....i didnt really think about that when i said he didnt deserve to be professional but i still dont think he deserves all the extra credit he's still getting many years later. I mean rememberance is one thing, placing him on a pedestal is another im not saying you are doing that but i know alot of people who do
It's always funny how you look at these comments and so many are insulting. Then when you look at their channel, they DONT EVEN PLAY! Zakk is one of the most influential players ever, and if you couldn't hear the national anthem, you do not have a musical ear. If you actually play the instrument, you would know what is going on and how difficult that was to play. I just wish that if you don't like it, move on, or show something better yourself. Zakk Rocks!
im probably playing the national anthem at my school for one of our next few football games and im nervous and its like 2,000 kids only. i would have a heart attack playin for that many people. i wonder what its like to perform after doing huge shows after a while. do you get use to it or are you still nervous?
you want to watch a soulfull and great national anthem rendition on the guitar watch the Slash version floating around on youtube. thats how it should be played. your own way not a cheap rip off of another guitar legend. Zakk is the man but this is not his best work.
ok it's the same thing ...Jimi or Jimmi because is not in the name the difference between Zakk & Jimi ..Jimi at woodstock when play the national intem speak about all the shit that U.s.a was and maked at the time . Zack play ...but his guitar don't say nothing ...brutto figlio di bagassa !
Definitely the best version out of all the 'rock stars' imho. Anyone can duplicate Slash's or Metallica's, but to create it and make it sound your own .... Zakk is the winner
i'm not an american but this gives me goosebumps.
Awesome...just awesome.
I'm dutch but this guy gives me the goosebumps with this!
Awesome!!
That never gets old,jaw droping preformance
BLS Tx. Chapter
omg listening to this gave me goosebumps... i seen him play this at the free ozzfest some years back in San Bernardino... very well done zakk ur a god.. i bow to u sir
How is this over the top??? the soul that comes from this version is unheard of... Zakk is a true American.
I agree with Sivertsen17.. How can you not love this version of the National Anthem?
Zakk Wylde is my favorite LIVING guitarist, and I thought this was bad. If he would take the rotovibe out, it would have been perfect.
it was colliding frequencies. no rotovibe👌
Love Zakk!!
Zakk fucking plays it amazingly. Hendrix used a bunch of effects(loads of feedback) himself.
That was a masterpiece. mind =blown...
another reason to love hockey
tht gave me chills...
this isn't even the anthem of my country and i felt something
@shadowari92 Take into consideration that this is a 240p rip of a rip of a rip of a rip from a Video cassette. The quality of the live thing must have been a zillion times better.

the commentator meant to say "Zakk Wylde", but said "Ladies and gentleman. THAT"S WILD!"
AWESOME!
Zakk isn't playing it original !
He is kindof making it hes own ! Zakk is good and that solo was amazing !
He just pimped this shit up man
Amongst the rock players most of these guitar players were influenced, by Page, Clapton, Beck, Hendrix, etc. they also listened to McLaughlin.
"He's pretty good"
Aaah no ! He's talking to the another one ! He's not talking to the guy just behind him, but to the other one !
The coolest person ever sent me here. yeah. dan kanter.
Glad you liked... it's just that even tho you may think something is ok but not love it, people can take it as a negative then hammer ya.
To each his own. Reminds me of an organist I heard once in a country church. If you didn't know what the hymn was that she was attempting to play, you never would have guessed it. No, not really! (For Zakk) Context for the occasion helps, though.
Could be because Jimi is one of Zakks idols . Like 90% of guitar players.
Wish i could have seen dime do the anthem!
hehe i love it, he was like "ok lets play the national anthem.... oh fuck it...... RANDOM SOLO'S!!" he's the best XD
slash does a pretty sweet canadian national anthem
You know Fuck all about what good music sounds like then.
i definitley would go to a baseball game if zakk played the anthem. this fucking rocks!!! i also like hendrexis version to.
awesome
@amccoll20893 agreed but if you look at the guitarists that are still with us today he is probable the best. although lately is stuff sounds all the same but back when no rest and no more tears came out with ozz he was god
@chase1410
actually he uses epiphone alot. check out his farewelll ballad solo, thats on an epiphone, but yes he does love his gibsons, o wouldnt? lol
O shit, really? Badass! I live in Portland too bro!
Was Anze Kopitar already in Kings when he played this?
every time a guitarist does this they go for a hendrix vibe (a 'protest' sort of vibe).
this is beyond overdone
this video really sums up exactly how i feel about Zakk's playing
the 284 that disliked aren't "wylde" enough
damn....nice....
@joker12131415 hes not thrash, hes heavy metal. But still I totally agree with you!
America, FUCK YEAH
@AnathemaBlack Can we just forget that ever happened?
@showdownrocks why because you know his name? His music is UNDERrated, his name is so famous, have you ever listened to his music?
one does not simply play the national anthem...unless your zakk wylde
exactly my thoughts. I like Jimi but his version of the national anthem is basically only remembered for the time, place, and meaning that surrounded it. Because as far as musical composition goes, it sounds horrible, and he kinda meant for it too.

''Damn zakk kicks ass!!''
very true
@Surewinner93 If you think this is a bit over the top you dont know Zakk Wylde very well. He couldve gone WAY harder!
holy shit thts awesome
could he please do that at a red wings game....
Easy Zack, they can't play the game afterwards if all the ice is melted.
Did the kings win that night?
how society has chnaged in 40 years, hendrix was slated for doing this at woodstock.
Fuckin' Awesome
i didnt say they were classically oriented i just said influenced by classical. and they mock jazz music and its pretty fucking funny. you need to be shown a lesson. welcome to rock.
I don't say Zakk isn't a good guitar player....but what gets me all the time....is his use of wha wha......i think it is to much
gtf over it you can play it how ever you want to play it, as long as ur representing the country man thats all that matters.
Thats not a tribute to the national anthem its a tribute to Jimi Hendrix
National anthem=univibe...gee, thanks Jimi.
he played it awesomely! and its ozzy not auzzie
which bullseye is that? its all glossy and stuff?
all yanks have alot to learn about taste but i did not say "you suck"this dude is and did display a bit to much of his own thing over your anthem but aint that just being innotivive?hes amazing
I'm not a guitarist, but how is Kirk Hammet compared 2 Zakk?
@andybirger Huh... in Spain we don't have guitarists like such... at least metal guitarists
they look pissed
OMFG im from canada and that sounds fucking amazinggg lol
@bratasa what is dieing? do you mean dying?
0:58 that guy didn't hear a god damn word he said.
XD
i think hendrix did it the most "natural" way
I was at that game. Not being a hockey fan, Wylde's performance was the highlight of my night.
Do you know the date when it was?
I agree with Sivertsen17.. How can you not love this version of the National Anthem?
The players all look like they're just thinking "What the hell, eh?!"
Damn Canadians.
I love how EVERY guitarist has to show off their shredding skills at some point. whether while warming up or playing they do it. =D I LOVE ZAKK WYLDE
I only recently discovered Zakk and was blown away by his performance of the national anthem. The thing is, musicians must be given freedom to interpret music as the creative force moves them. Zakk's was passionate and well-done.
Kudos to the man!
He isnt the most technically sound guitarist, but he has some soul. Yngwie will never have soul no matter how technically great he is.
HallowedIntent dude that is so true yeah malmsteen has technical speed and all that but i would rather have tonality and soulness in my playing such as the late DIMEBAG DARRELL RIP
He's basically "what if slash was metal?".
:57
"his pretty good"
"huh?"
"his pretty good"
LMAO
his farewell ballad makes me cry. it is for the greatest guitarist ever dimebag darrel . they were childhood friends
I'm pretty sure all National Anthem performances are "Over the Top". This one just happens to kick ass!!!
holy fuck! i just got goosebumps that was so good
Gave me the chills! Awesome job ZAkk!
well i think zakk is awesome but sometimes he kills songs with way too much effects/distortion
i like the anthem but at sometimes i was like wtf?
Zakk kicks ass on this... The disrespect shown by what is professional athletes turning and talking and laughing is a disgrace... They would piss their diapers if they had to protect our great nation and our way of life like our true warriors in our armed forces do every single day. THANK YOU to our veterans and men and women who proudly serve!!!!

Los Angeles Kings vs Phoenix Coyotes (2005-06 season)
*Kings home opener.
wow worst way to play a national anthem he totally butchered it reminds me of kirk when he plays his solo's now adays fuck zakk you might be better than me but let me give you once piece of advice lay off the wah wah and imper vision take it or leave it

Still listening to this day
The guy below who said this was just a load of noise is, I think correct.
Zakk over-did this performance, sounded to 'all over the place'.
He has done much better.
once again, y the fuck would i want to play like him?
i dunno if it's my being ex military and feeling love for my country, or for the way he plays this, but i was in tears :(
I’m Canadian and every time a watch it I tear up.
@GalantyGuitarist Being a guitarist is not being a nerd it means that you are close to being the pinnacle of awesomness
@Timo4slash dude be proud to be canadian, overall canadians have a better life, we have FREE healthcare.
