Chris... Please could you explain why incoming vessels need to make a 360 degree turn before entering the outer basin? The only reason I can come up with is that it's a method of controlling the vessel's speed against an incoming tide, but I might be completely wrong!

Made a faux pax, my wife put me right about degrees, so from now on will keep it simple!
You are correct, it is to swing to stem the tide.

A thought that crosses my mind too. I think that the piers are angled out so it is the under water part of the hull that touches.
