I have been a resident of Simpsonville, one of a number of neighboring communities to Greenville, for 19 years. Up until 3 - 4 years ago I believed I was living in heaven on earth. Sadly, that is when we began seeing a flood of people moving here from other states. Each of the local governments signed building permit after permit after permit without regard to societal impact, our infrastructure, our roads or our very way of life and the building continues at a fever pitch. I dare say that our elected representatives have ruined the Upstate of South Carolina from what it used to be. I will never forget or forgive what Simpsonville's mayor said a few years back, "Growth is good, right?". Good for who? He previously ran on "fixing traffic issues" and he recently declared in his re-election bid that he would "address traffic congestion". In the past six years he has done nothing to help the situation. This, sadly, is what the Greenville area has become.
I work in hvac in greenville and make great money. Work like a dog for it but we rent a nice modern apartment and just got approved for our first mortgage. I’ve lived all over the country and we love it here.

There is also a problem with quality home repair and renovation specialist. You might want to just rent or lease if you move here. And also quality mechanics. Expect to get ripped off and it gets worse evey year.
DO NOT MOVE TO SC!!!! These videos are misleading so I will break it down for you. There are NO good paying jobs here, housing is too expensive for an area that has always been in the last 5 states for education and employment. People hate outsiders here as well. I’ve been here for over a year and it was the worst decision I’ve ever made. Do t make my mistake. Stay where you are and water your own grass because the grass is definitely not greener on this side of the fence. Hope this helps someone from making a big mistake.
I’ve lived here my whole life and it’s not what it used to be. I agree too many people are moving here from up north and California. They are making housing completely unaffordable for the people who were already here. It sucks. There is nothing special about Greenville. We don’t have an ocean and you have to drive to get to the mountains. What’s the point. As far as not wanting outsiders; that’s true. I don’t for the reasons stated above.
I lived in Greenville since 2000. It was very cheap compared to NJ and jobs were aplenty, precisely because there was no local competition in terms of high class professionals with advanced degrees that all these European companies need. One thing is true: the dating scene is non-existent in Greenville if you are a non-Hispanic outsider. People get married like 3 days after graduating college, the ones who actually go to college, or leave and go to experience life in NYC, or similar.

Incredible the amount of empty new warehouses. Sardine-packed townhouse communities built with no secondary or feeder street improvement. If you like queues, Charlanta (formerly Greenville) is for you.
Your video is on point!! I moved to Greenville 2 years ago from Westchester, NY and I can tell you, people from up there don’t care about traffic jams here, and roads are still in worse condition in the north due to snow plowing.

But not everyone is reaping benefits from growth.

I've seen a lot of retirees in Greenville, mostly from up North for years and years now. So no, it's not for the 'younger crowd'. In fact, my whole little suburb is retirees except for myself and a couple others. I'm middle aged and I'm the child of my neighborhood
If you're remote it's pretty cool. Don't have to commute, can afford housing near downtown, and there's thousands of miles of hiking trails, and mountain bike trails within 1.5 hours.
You’ve basically just described my neighborhood in hawaii, minus the gators. And seniors move here all the time, and medical care is good when you can get it that is.
All true. Thank you for this video. I’ve been here since 2009. I host an open mic downtown at Coupe’s Corner on Wednesdays at 7pm. Please stop by sometime and say hello.
As a native to Greenville, I can say drug abuse is rampant, especially meth and heroin usage. Unfortunately, with that homelessness is also on the rise. Break-ins are now quite common. My home has been broken into along with 4 other homes on my street, and I'm in a desirable neighborhood where 2 bedroom, 1 bath bungalows sell for $350k. I recommend getting an app like Neighbor's to see for yourself the activities taking place from people posting videos of packages being stolen off of porches, people wandering through back yards and unto porches, as well as trying to get into vehicles. On a different note, medical has certainly gotten so much worse. It can now take an average of three months to get a doctor's appointment when two years ago you could get in right away. Its also common to wait 2 hours at your appointment before getting seen because the doctor's offices are over booking their appointments. Last week I had to leave a doctor's office after waiting more than 2 hours, only to be told when I asked how much longer it would be, that he was running yet another hour behind schedule. It took months to get that appointment. These are two of many negative changes to the area I've experienced. Also, if you plan on coming to Greenville for the Southern experience, it no longer exists! I spent many years away from South Carolina living up and down the west coast, in San Francisco and Portland, before returning home, and I can tell you Greenville has more of that feel and attitude now than it does anything southern. True Southern hospitality no longer exists in Greenville.
I moved here 2 years ago for a fresh start and a better life. And one this is 100% accurate the traffic is freakin ridiculous! And to top it off, no one seems to know how to drive here lol. Blinkers, tailgating, 10 miles under the speed limit, cell phones at the wheel scrolling fb lol not paying attention the light has turned green. And much more. Like almost everyday on my commutes. Idk maybe it’s bc I’m from upstate ny we like to “move our ass” so to speak.
I agree with the 10 under the limit. When I was in Houston I got a warning for doing 70 in a 60 during morning traffic. Here they seem to encourage driving slow. More ppl have died in reaction to driving too slow and the lack of reacting.

The entire east coast growth is out of control. Never ending traffic and more people flooding into the country every day doesn’t help. Other than that, things are great.
I drive from NE FL to Charleston to see my mom and the condition of SC roads is horrendous so that is the entire state. Maybe they need to tax gas more rather than vehicles to pay for road maintenance. That way people passing through or visiting contribute some. Gas in SC is at least $.50 gallon cheaper than FL but we don’t have personal property tax on cars. Everything else you said sounds just like NE FL
Funnily enough they just raised the gas tax -but they keep not fixing the roads. It's definately one of the big downsides of SC. A few years ago we had a 750M budget surplus...which in my opinion could have gone right to the roads.
Moved to GVL in August 2022. Cannot afford to buy a house I'd like to own.... Local's are selling Memaw's house that hasn't seen an update since it was built 50+ years ago for 300k+. Expect to buy top of the market for a house that needs a roof, hvac system, kitchen.... Renting is cheaper than buying if You can find a decent place to rent. Cost of living and inflation have made this American Dream a hard scrabble effort to just make it.
I went to Greenville this spring and it was magnificent !! I know the grass is not always greener on the other side , but guys dont move to Canada and especially Montréal in the province of Québec. You want to talk of many problems lol !! I could do a 2 hours of footage about Montréal and surroundings cities.
Weather's better. That's... about all I can say but considering what's happened with Helene recently here in the carolinas I'd wait and see if climate change gets worse before you do. Until this month, I had never been without power for nearly a week and zero Internet for two after that. Considering I make my livelihood on it, it was stressful and honestly, I still feel lucky in comparison to what happened to so many people in Asheville. My suggestion though? Take a trip down here, there are a lof of nice places to go. See it for yourself. Just don't get too nervous about all the downed trees from the tropical storm.
They’re adding jobs instead of losing them. Climate is just about perfect, and an unzoned and formerly undeveloped county lets developers do what they want, largely unfettered by any regulation.
Have you seen the cost of living in other states? Florida for example was at a time dirt cheap to live in. Then it started to cost 4 times the amount to live there. It's definitely gotten worse now with everything else going up
I don't think anybody can find a city as well managed as Greenville. Most cities first choice to increase tax revenue is to make developments to get more people. Greenville's charm is that they made the city livable and enjoyable for the people living and visiting there with great amenities.
@Paul-xj8ln the roads are trash, the highways are under constant construction and have a few major choke points, the average salary hasn't increased to match the housing market so most places are overpriced, all the big growth has made a lot of people very stand offish to newcomers, and the education system is pretty horrible. I mean the colleges are okay, but the elementary, middle, and high-schools aren't that great depending on the area.
Being from New Jersey and a realtor as well, I have found Greenville to be a very charming town. My son lives there, and the traffic is nothing like it is in New Jersey. Regarding the housing prices that have gone up, we have the same issue here, and between housing taxes and food costs New Jersey is becoming unaffordable For most people. To rent a 2 Bedroom Pl. is between $2700 and $3000 a month and 3 to 4 bedrooms could be between 3000 and 4000 a month. Opioids are everywhere and we have our fair share of that problem here as well, but I still find that driving in your area. I am not as white knuckled as I am when I drive in New Jersey. I find the people down there are very friendly and welcoming and it’s a great place to visit and my son says it’s a great place to live.!
Lived in 12 states. 20 some cities. Best place I’ve ever lived by miles. Is this dude even from here or California. Traffics high because so many people are moving here. I see New York and new jersey plates daily. Housing is getting high because so many people are moving here too. But as everyone else said, don’t move here.

The fact that Bob Jones University in this city & its poisonous influence on the people & culture is why I would NEVER move anywhere near Greenville, SC.

Disingenuous and misleading. The Nicholtown example compares an abandoned house (i.e. a vacant lot) to a new renovated multi-lot home. Additionally the mixing of Greenville county and Greenville city creates a false narrative. Towns like Simpsonville, Mauldin, and Travelers Rest are great places to move to. The roads are bad in most of the state, that part is true.
South Carolina has a hand in the cartel . You not about to make people believe that all these Mexican business been here for over 10 years . These businesses are new , since the boarder opening south Carolina has flooded with cartels and drug
greenville is more than full..the roads arent meant for this size poppulation ..work commutes are insane now ...cist of living has skyrocketed i bought my new house had it built for 121k now its valued at 310k luckily i moved here in 2007 ..if i moved here today i would not be able to afford it because my mortgage would cost 2 to 3 times what it does now
"Greenville is more than full" I moved here, same year as you but to say something like that is ridiculous. What gives you the right to decide for other people on where they live or not?
@@rn6312 its the truth lol and as a result people on lower incomes like my employees tell me how they are barely surviving due to the increased cost of living just like other major metropolitan cities ..and the trafic is horendous ..this places infastructure was never designed for this many people ..greenville is full
@@carolinayamadawg8706 So basically you only give a bunch of subjective arguments, not factual ones. Subjectivity is not a truth. Then you think if some people have the same attitude as you do they're right. and if they don't think like you do, they're wrong, while all I did was ask a question that was trying to get you to think about how ridiculous your statement sounded. Typical child like thinking and the fact you have a kid, well I hope he's smarter than you are. My guess is though, he won't be since he and you, I assume you were raised on the same education system, South Carolina's. Crticial thinking skills seem to be in short supply in their schools, obviously because of massive education budget cuts by Republicans for decades and decades. (They do like to keep their voter base stupid.) I'd definitely at least not tell people who had kids to move here, that's for sure. I'd be happy to even discuss all of that to your plebeian cerebrum in person. Not like you and I live far apart or anything. Isn't hapkido like one of those crappy martial arts that isn't nearly as good as karate or judo or something? Saw that as one of your shorts.
And oh man you have employees that are barely surviving? Well here's a thought. Pay them a good living wage. Maybe then they won't complain to you because I assume they are in a polite way, because you can do something about it and then look like a jerk because you're not. Quit going to concerts, buying fast motorcycles and expensive gaming rigs. Then you'd be able to pay your employees better to keep up with inflation. Typical millennial thinking though, blaming other people for your own problems, such as with your employees though. Blame yourself for not being a better employer.

I'm so confused.....Why would anyone think of moving to Greenville South Carolina?
@@easypeasy2938 You should watch my other Greenville videos for that! 🤣
They’re adding jobs instead of losing them. Climate is just about perfect, and an unzoned and formerly undeveloped county lets developers do what they want, largely unfettered by any regulation.
We don’t have the roads to meet the needed to meet the needs of our current population 😊
Have you seen the cost of living in other states? Florida for example was at a time dirt cheap to live in. Then it started to cost 4 times the amount to live there. It's definitely gotten worse now with everything else going up
@@JacobMasters-wn2zb And, of course this was all before Helene!
I don't think anybody can find a city as well managed as Greenville. Most cities first choice to increase tax revenue is to make developments to get more people. Greenville's charm is that they made the city livable and enjoyable for the people living and visiting there with great amenities.
Downtown is great and easy to get around.
Greenville has been destroyed to fit all the transplants!
Don’t do it. It’s all hype. My wife and I fell for it two years ago…
It sucks.
Why though? What's wrong with it, could you provide more information?
@@LivingattheNewJerseyShore Does South Carolina have many NJ and NY people?
You must live near White Horse Rd. lol
We need more development in public transportation.
NY and NJ are my least favorite.
Greenville has terrible congestion. Ultra High Cost of Housing. Very poor schools. Super Deep South mentality, You will not get a jobs unless your from Clemson. Big racial tension, drugs everywhere and the weather unstable, tons of polen!
Greenville is my home town it was so nice to see it grow The buses for Greenville Residents is horrible especially with a state that's growing and been trick by some New Yorkers that want it like they want the Mayor keep talking what he did long time ago he like greed he want let no one else help come with new ideas
The prices in that area don't match the local incomes of the residents. Home prices vs. actual net incomes do not match. It doesn't make sense.
Same in Washington state :(
:(
The fact that Bob Jones University in this city & its poisonous influence on the people & culture is why I would NEVER move anywhere near Greenville, SC.
Correction my friend. Bob Jones university is in Greenville SC not Greenville NC
@@61Aliceinwonderland This is about Greenville SC. Who said anything about NC?
What is it that you’re afraid of?
I notice that part of town remains run down and derelict compared to downtown, which is exceedingly nice compared to 20 years ago.
Creepy cults with iron gates around the campus.
Too crowded, lousy roads and lights. NOT worth the money. DOT did not plan to make it better for the influx of people.
Budget cuts do that. So blame the state politicians. Start voting a different party in.
Hey the wife and I are planning to move to Greenville.
Can you send me a guide?
Ive lived here since 2020. Dint do it

@@arrtwo1375 So move.
This list applies to literally every city? Dumb.
Ouch! Does that make it less true about Greenville?
No it’s makes you a lying dummy. that’s his point !
You know Greenville isn’t what you are saying. You just want to sell homes.
@@danielsea6479 You just proved my point in the comment where I said you were a jerk. i was right.
South Carolina has a hand in the cartel . You not about to make people believe that all these Mexican business been here for over 10 years . These businesses are new , since the boarder opening south Carolina has flooded with cartels and drug
greenville is more than full..the roads arent meant for this size poppulation ..work commutes are insane now ...cist of living has skyrocketed i bought my new house had it built for 121k now its valued at 310k luckily i moved here in 2007 ..if i moved here today i would not be able to afford it because my mortgage would cost 2 to 3 times what it does now
"Greenville is more than full"
I moved here, same year as you but to say something like that is ridiculous.
@@rn6312 besides read the rest of the comments here just about everyone is saying the same thing as me lmfao
All true. Thank you for this video. I’ve been here since 2009. I host an open mic downtown at Coupe’s Corner on Wednesdays at 7pm. Please stop by sometime and say hello.
