- Head coach Ryan Day shared his thoughts on the Ohio State-Oregon game a couple of days after the Buckeyes lost 32-31 to the Ducks on Saturday.
Day joined the Buckeye Roundtable on Tuesday, hosted by Skip Mosic, Jim Lachey and Paul Keels at 97.1 The Fan to discuss the game.

The game was so close that neither team “beat” the other, Oregon won because they scored one more point than Ohio did. The game was a coin toss, and I’m saying that as an Oregon fan.

Learn this, all "PENALTIES" can be used as a Chess Board tactic by the Defense. It's not about changing rules, it's about saying "We'll played". OSU is still a juggernaut All American team who will be in the playoffs, if not the Championship game. My hats off to OSU, from a Ducks fan. That was one great and fun game to watch.
My issue is why we didn't run the ball once we got to the 28 with 34 seconds left and 1 timeout.
That’s the crazy part. With 4 downs you could run, spike, run, call timeout. It’s not like you don’t have good running backs.

How come no timeout with 22 seconds? We lost 7 seconds. We snapped the ball with 15 seconds. We left a timeout on the field. Clock management is the responsibility of the head coach.

I love coach Day. The Univ. needs to make sure to keep him. Ibwill take a coach whose record is 61-9. And there are many schools who would love to have him. It seem that he has the buckeyes in the upper core every year. Plenty of football left. The Buckeyes will there in the end barribg injuries. We lost to a very good school on their field by one and we're still it it. I am very proud of our team. Fans are spoiled and expect so much in an unfair way. But let those same fans walk in Coach Day's shors and see how they would do. Every person complaining is simply a Sunday morning coach . ali had his jaw handed to him a few times and is still thr greatest. Let the season play out and enjoy every game.
100%. Look at whats happening with Lincoln Riley and Michigan and Oklahoma. Day has kept Ohio State elite for 6 years and thats not easy. The close losses suck but he will break through. The season goals are all still attainable
Ryan Day screwed up at the end which was nothing new to buckeye fans. This has quickly become a theme when Ryan Day is coaching in bigger games against top tier opponents. He mismanages the game somehow or his defense blows a lead in the 4th or a special teams play goes for the other team and the bucks lose because of it. Ryan Day is not Urban or Tress. Gone are the days of old. These are the new buckeyes that don't use their timeouts and let the big games get away from them. To him I would ask: What are you trying to do to my beloved buckeyes?

You're right, it was a "good" game. The thing that bothers Buckeyes fans isn't so much that they lost, it's how poorly the team played and how poorly the coaches coached. Bucks played an B+ game (probably an A except final drive) but a C- to D game for Defense and special teams. Absolute blunders and mind boggling screw ups that they seem to have a mental block for with big games. So yeh, you guys played well and it's likely we'll play again, but Bucks fans are more upset with the team and coaches than they are with the actual loss.
not so fast, OSU has to beat indiana, and penn state on the road, and michigan. loosing any of those games will likely cost OSU a championship bid in indy. And oregon hasn't even stamped their tickets they still face michigan as well. while oregon can prolly drop 1 game remaining and still make the championship game, there is still alot of games that need to be played.

I can’t believe how fast the refs administered the clock 😂. I don’t think I’ve ever heard that complaint before. Usually teams in that situation are in hurry up and refs respond accordingly.

I’m going to assume you aren’t talking about the first interception on the first drive that you got a free 7 points out of? The way I see it, it helped keep you in the game, otherwise the ending doesn’t matter at all. Watch out for Boise, they played us better than you did.

The kicker kicked that ball so hard, was that even intentional? Also, I don't think so Ryan Day, the OSU player looked super surprised that even happened. I highly doubt that was true that they practiced that play. Yeah right!
Face it, Ohio State football hasn't been the same since Urban Meyer left. The edge is gone.
This team needed to be humbled. Too much talk about a Natty so early in the season. No worries unless we lose another regular season game. And I appreciate all the religious fervor from the team, but he doesn't play favorites. You still have to focus and take care of business on the practice field and on Saturdays. Go Bucks!
Why didn't the coach run down an official for replay on last play? players holding up hands requesting time out :02 left Will Howard slid with :01, rule is QB(player) down at start of slide. OSU robbed for an opportunity to kick the 45 yard field goal with :01 left.
Will Howard did great! NO Interceptions NO Fumbles. 80% completion , 326 passing yards 135 QBR. Played like a champion and a leader. FYI Dillon Gabriel qbr for game 130.
Denzel Ward gave up 7 explosive plays and was getting embarrassed. He's no 1st round db. Why didn't they try Matthews or 1 of our 2 5 star freshman that Oregon has no scout film on. when Burke was obvious, he was getting picked on. And Ranson was also getting picked on. Igbinosun and Downs did good. NEED Pressure Every play!! Every time we did Gabriel made a bad play like against Idaho & Boise St.

Running the football and forcing Oregon to call waste their TOs is the only thing Ryan should have done to set up a FG

PEAK INSANITY OR PEAK INEPTITUDE. If you love football, what makes you want to put your head in the palms of your hands and cry is the fact Ryan Day still doesn't know the real reason why OSU lost on that fateful final series: apart from the fact Howard clearly gave himself up before the clock hit zero, of which Day should've asked for a review, the real reason OSU lost is because it didn't run the ball after reaching the ORE 28 with 34 seconds left on the clock. Day should've brought out his big-boy package, put the ball in the hand of his biggest, most trusted back for ball security reasons, told the guys up front to push that D-line back like their mothers' lives depended on it, and run the ball for a few plays, using OSU's timeout, if need be. Doing so would've given Fielding, who had made a 40-yd FG earlier in the game, an easy, 35-yd FG attempt. This is exactly what NDSU did at IOWA in 2016. NDSU won; pass-happy OSU lost.
All these Buckeye shows are like the Liberal media. They don’t ask the hard questions. They don’t hold Ryan Day accountable. They keep carrying the water for this guy even though they know he isn’t the future of this program.
Ryan Day is a great offensive coordinator but not a head coach…constant screw ups on both sides of the ball…constant problems in the same areas…it’s not the losses but how the losses happen…almost amateurish play by seasoned players…not acceptable for a head coach.
