Great video, wish I had seen this a year ago, but I learned it through school of hard knocks. Thanks for creating this. I'm looking at getting a Garmin Force trolling motor this year, should be interesting.
Just started watching your videos and was excited to see your posts about software to manipulate waypoints and tracks on my Garmin Echomap UHD. When I searched for the Homeport software, I see it is no longer available 😢. What do you use now to update waypoints and tracks??
Thanks Phil! It's definitely easy and I love how everything is just plug and play... really simple and seamless, love it when technology works like it should haha!
All of your Garmin product video's are simply awesome and greatly appreciated! After the units are registered with software updates...do you open simulator mode to set up/pre-set your custom screens for side scan, clear vu and traditional if your at home on battery power and not on the water? Thanks
Dan, “the fish are calling you”, I sure hope you get time this Summer to fish and make some Awesome videos, we all miss you…I know work is always busy, but like I said “The Fish are calling you”. Hope you and your family are doing well and enjoying the warmer weather right now and your DO LIST is getting smaller, I know you have one for the Summer months. Take care Friend, hope to see some videos soon.
I have 2 93sv units networked together and yes one micro SD card will update both at the same time. Active captain kept pausing at 99% while validating and kept starting over and over and would not complete so I download Garmin express on my computer and uploaded it to the Micro SD card. Took a while to download but worked like a charm.
We have a Force on a bass boat and a Kraken on a pontoon boat. We use use 126 graphs interchanged on both boats. Can I control both trolling motors with one graph or will I need to designate different graphs as the primary graph for the different trolling motors?
great video and helped a lot. But i connected the network cable between my two 106 ultra units and noticed it getting quite warm to the touch is this normal. I got worried that i was going to fry something and disconnected it. the cable came with my new livescope unit i will be adding to my system. not sure what the problem is. is it possible the cable is faulty ?
Hey Dan, I went through the active captain app, and that worked great for getting my Echomap plus 95sv updated. What i'm not sure about is the Panoptics. If I have updated the Echomap to the newest update, is that going to update the Panoptics to? I am seeing vids of guys updating the panoptics directly with an sd card download from their laptop, and hearing that doing it that way can mess up Active Captain. Wondering if you can help. Thanks, great video.
You mentioned the maps card. I just got another 73 ultra sv and now have one on the console and the bow so this helped a bunch and I will go home and update but my Coastal maps are on a card that was purchased (it is the lake version). You said not to remove that SD once you use it. Do I just put my map SD card that I have from Richmond to Charleston in the other unit? Help please.
Hi there! First thanks so much for the sub! I don't think you have a 73SV Ultra, I imagine you have a UHD with a single micro SD slot. If you have the units networked, you can definitely run the map card on one unit and then use the other unit and your main ActiveCaptain unit and the map will be shared on both units PLUS your built in maps. Does that help?
Yes very much so. And yes it is the touch screen unit with the single slot. So I will keep the maps in the older one and create a Active Captain in the new one. Thanks again and always enjoy the top notch content.
Dan, I apologize if someone has already asked this. I have my Active Captain Account with my 93SV. I have a 32gb card that has all of my information saved Watpoints. I just bought a 106SV which I plan to make my Primary and my 93 secondary. When I set up the new 106SV can I just simply use the card out of my 93 SV and boot up and everything will be good. I dont need a second blank card to get started correct. At 2:18 of your video, it mentioned "Copy Built in Map". Dont want to screw something up. Thanks
Awesome video thanks except I disagree about not using the cheap network hubs over the gms10 easily don't add way cheaper if it does get wet and fry its 35 bucks for a new one
Look, here's my deal with that... you can use them, and yes they're cheaper, but using indoor, non-IPX rated electronics on your boat is a fire hazard so I can't in good conscience recommend it. I already get flack for small things I do incorrectly, I'll get lit up for recommending something like that lol!
Hi so I can do this over a stable cell service connection? My boats in the water and is never that close to a wifi network. Or could I download updates on my phone and then go down to boat? Thanks!
I just updated my 106sv ultra and now my simulator is not working . I was just using it before my update and it was working fine . Any advice would be appreciated .
Just completed an update. I have 2 93UHDs, a livescope, and a garmin network hub. Update went as you showed in the video except that the new version did not show an update on one of my 93UHDs in the phone ActiveCaptain app "My Devices" section. (You did not mention this phone app feature in your video.) I checked each 93UHD unit and both indicated an update...it is just that my phone app only shows one 93UHD updated. The other 93UHD still shows the old version is installed. Did I miss a step or is it just an app glitch and don't worry about it?
I have a new 94sv, and just about to register it and start the updates, I have my SD card that I used to run on my 73sv and has a ton of waypoints in it, how can I use the same card to run updates and all on my new 94sv
I've had success before updating using the active captain, with the latest update for some reason it will never start updating, it does everything it's suppose to until it gets to where it should start transferring everything. Any ideals? Think I'll just use the card for now.
Appreciate these videos. Quick question - my 94SV that I just bought and installed recently is extremely laggy, slow, and pixelated when zooming from one area to another. Like 15-30 seconds to render the new location. All firmware and chart updates are current. Navionics on my phone was FAR more snappy and responsive. Any ideas?
Battery might be weak. My 943xsv acted sluggish but it was 1) not wired on a dedicated power cable and 2) the house battery was just about dead and in need of replacement.
so any advice if i can not get my phone with the active captain app to connect to my garmin 93sv device on the boat? its seeing everything i put in, i get everything your showing so when i go to connect the two devices to each other it never connects. it says it is but does not go past the connext to wifi screen. i reset everything started over and does the same thing. it sees the names but never goes past the connect screen. any suggestions?
Have downloaded my purchased chart to our Active Captain card directly via my computer and Garmin Express. Map works fine on our unit, but would like to read the map INTO the unit and still work without the card in there. ???? Really don't want to have to download the map on my phone. Takes hours and gigs of memory.
Dan thx for the video. I have an embarrassing question hoping you can help. Not sure how to contact you so I'll put it here: I have a Garmin UHD 73sv. 1. Am I required to buy updated maps each year? If not, do most people do it? 2. I would like to use Navionics Boating App to work at home & pre-plan trip, etc. ? 3. Are question 1 and 2 related? Any help would be appreciated.
Hi Michael, I'm happy to answer your questions :) So 1. no you do not have to buy maps each year unless you want the very latest and greatest each year, which I personally do not really see a big difference so I rarely update my maps if at all. Remember you do get 1 free upgrade to your maps within 1 year of registering your new units. 2. I am not sure what your question is but yeah you can definitely do that or you can just use the ActiveCaptain app and do the same thing :) 3. I'm sorry I don't understand what question 2 is exactly, can you clarify? Take care!
@@DanRichardFishing Dan you are the man! I am sorry about the confusing questions. It is understandable, now that I more fully under Active Captain capabilities. I really appreciate you taking the time to help. Keep those extremely helpful videos coming. Thanks.
What if I have added a new unit and want to make that my master unit and the prior unit is now the secondary in the network? I had a single 93sv. I have just added a 106sv and want to make that the master rather than the 93.
Active Captain seems to get stuck in loop of Transferring and Validating. The cycle never ends. Is this normal? I never seem to get to the installation process it just keeps going between transferring and validating. Any suggestions?
Yessss!!! I'm in that same stupid loop right now. Downloading software update, validating update, Transferring data, paused transfer and repeat! 1 yt video said to download the update to phone then turn off cellular data on the phone so it's only wifi connected to your garmin. Haven't tried that yet, the second possible solution is to remove the SD card and put in a blank SD card then try again. I read some updates need to put the software on the SD to install it and it can't be the card with your maps on it. This is like a 90s type issue and I sincerely hope Garmin fixes this and improves on their software and hardware. Garmin has been stuck in the past for a while now. Personally I think they're only still around because they were first out and the competition is very sparse. Google leapfrogged their auto units with their maps software but at least when Navionics leapfrogged their maps they bought the company. Garmin needs to uo their innovation and end issues like this.
I was following you pretty good until you said " we are going to disconnect and connect to our home wifi. There is no way my wifi reaches my garage or if I am at my boat lift . Does that mean I cant update unless I am under wifi? thanks
My Garmin device is not within range of my Wifi network -- how do i solve that problem ? Can the unit be removed from the Boat and attached to 12 volts to be closer to the Wifi Network to do all this stuff ? I have the Active Captain installed on my OS Phone but it immediately tells me there is no Wifi to connect to -- does that mean its trying to connect to the Garmin Unit?
@@FishingBasics Mine is doing the same thing. Like its stuck in a loop where every time i power my echomap and have my active captain up on my phone, it will begin transferring, validating and prompts me to update. the update then runs through, pauses at 90%, switches to Marine Network and the next screen shows US Lake: Error Did you ever figure this out?
Sorry do you mean you're getting an error or do you mean the map error I was getting? I'm getting it because the unit syncronized all my maps in my Garmin profile to the Echomap, but the problem is mine is pre-loaded with Worldwide base maps. When you have those maps, you cannot use the Lakeview maps that come with the detailed maps in the 93SV or 95SV for example, they won't load. Probably just need to delete the map files from the card, I'll have to heck when I get back home (I am currently in Germany for work).
I will check but I don’t have worldwide maps, just lakeview. The software version on startup is current. Can’t figure out why the error on second reboot. Are transducer updates separate or part of consoles software?

Hi, I am Ann from Oukitel brand, we making portable power stations and their related products. May I show you our product and talk to you about cooperation?
You would have to use a network hub if you don't have any available Network ports for Garmin accessories. So let's say you had a plus or a UHD unit with only one network port, and you have two units Network together, then you would need to use the hub if you want to add panoptix.
@@DanRichardFishing OK. So, adding panoptix is the only reason to start stewing about a network hub? Fine. Now what is Panoptix? Tried looking it up but didn't see good info.

Hi Gary! I get what you're saying but the evolution of fishing has been progressing for centuries, albeit quite rapidly with technology now. But with your thinking, if you really want it "the old fashion" way, then technically you should be fishing with your bare hands or maybe a stick your sharpened up with a rock and made a spear.
