There was a programme here in the UK about a young man who was lost.. No body was found, but they finally got an identification a few years ago. They found 2 pieces of his collar bone. All the family have of their son and brother is 2 a5 size envelopes with 2 tiny pieces of bone. Broke my heart

@@rickhardman7376 yes memories are precious but not having the closure of being able to lay their body to rest is unexplainable. I had a family member who was killed and 10 years later no body has been found, it makes accepting the reality that they are dead very hard.

Brooke: Well the way that I see it is -- once someone is dead. They are are no longer there. The body is just material. It means nothing. Hopefully -- everyone has some sort of spirit -- soul and in that case -- it is non-local. One could hopefully try to connect with that spirit and it could be anywhere on earth that one could do that. Kind of hard to explain.

I lost my cousin in a mining explosion that killed 29 men, we never got his body back the only things we got back was the stuff in his locker, very thankful that we got the stuff in his locker back but it’s a feeling of endless pain and heartache and longing for him in ways others will never understand. I just wish some days I could go sit with a grave and cry or I could go sit down with him in a grave site and talk to him about life and stuff. All I have is a poster to remember him by bc the rest of his items went to his mum and sister and to his unborn daughter who he never met. I would love to know what closure feels like but I doubt I ever will, the people responsible for the mine have never faced any consequences of their actions either so it’s like pouring salt into a wound that’s already opened as it is. So I know a lot about what these people have gone through in terms of receiving little to no closure and it’s not a feeling I wish on my worst enemy 🥺😓💔

A picture or short video of the victim - maybe where they worked, a brief history of the Person -- so that we don’t forget them. It very well could have been you or me in that building.

23 years. I was in fifth grade when that happened. To this day, and really every year I just think how insane it is that something this horrific happened. Not just in our country but literally anywhere. Using airplanes (large ones) going 600 mph with people in it to ram into buildings standing hundreds of feet in the air. Then to have them collapse while people are still inside or leaning out the windows trying to get air or waving their arms if they can to show they are alive and need help. Then hearing stories about kids, probably my age, who lost both parents in this attack. Makes me sad...but yet so thankful for life.

Theu were able to identify them just a couple days before the 20th anniversary.

Another tragedy, the 1944 circus fire in Hartford, Connecticut, had a similar outcome. Some of those who went missing were never identified as some of the bodies of those trapped in the big top as it burned down around them were too badly damaged. Loved ones who did not have a body to bury held out hope that their missing loved one wasn't really dead, but had suffered a head injury and wandered off, amnesiac. They spent their whole lives hoping. Human nature is like that.

Most of the people who died in the WTC attack were above/in the impacts or in the planes. They ID'ed 1/2 the people[so far], mostly the FD and PD who were actual bodies under the collapse. The plane and floors of impact victims were blasted to smithereens for sure. I'll bet the people they can't ID are the ones 5 or 7 floors above the impacts that roasted in that 800 degree inferno for an hour. and are charred bits of bone. The 200 jumpers were a puddle covered with 100k tons of dust and stuff. Sorry to be so gruesome, but terror is ugly and shows no mercy. It is possible I suppose that maybe a couple of people said ' well everyone thinks I was at work and died, so I can start a new life somewhere else'. Maybe.

wiibaron there weren't likely many people that burned to death though, seeing as how there were many phone calls coming from floors barely above the impact zone. The reason we have about 40% is because of the people that were blasted into bits on the planes and impact zones as you said, and likely due to the essential disintegration some bodies were said to have gone through.

What’s amazing to me is to think about how much stuff was on every single floor of those buildings. From office papers to personal objects from all of the workers. Art work , rare collectibles, just stuff that had been collected there for decades. And think about everything in the restaurants in the building. Tons of food and stuff that these amazing people sifted through to find out whether they were human remains or animal bone. I’m beyond impressed that they have accomplished what they have. They never let a defeatist attitude overcome them. God bless these people , all of the families and all of the victims of that deceptively beautiful day in September. We will never forget it.

How much closure does one really get from a few bits of body parts to bury? As long as I know my loved ones died and know what happened to them then I don’t think I’d get much closure even if their remains were found. I feel like people hold onto that as a last shred of hope but it never materializes, even if they get a piece they’d probably want more or just finally accept there’s no closure to be had.
