As a Tesla model Y owner for over 2 years, I agree with some but not most of your comments. The mirrors and seats you set once and never touch them again because they are saved to your profile. Same with the vent settings. I find the lights turn on appropriately with darkness. The construction of my Model Y was flawless. We have done absolutely no maintenance to the car except change tires for the time we have had our car. Tesla has added and refined multiple options over the years we have had the car. I will be buying my next Tesla when our lease is up. You also did not comment on the buying process, it is simply painless, you don’t have to deal with crooked salesmen and exorbitant mark ups.

After a recent update you can now assign one of the buttons on the steering wheel to open the glovebox, I adjusted my seat, wing mirrors and steering wheel when I bought the car, not had to touch them since, saves many little used buttons and any assigned drivers can do the same. Autopilot is severely hampered by European regulation, plenty of videos from the USA showing what it can now do. Very happy with my Y after over 12 months use.
Agree with a lot of what you said. Personally, the fact that the screen tech was so good (and useable), I wasn't so annoyed by having to change the lights & wipers on the rare occasion I did. You would hope the auto setting worked 100% of the time but it did, for me, 95%. Charging my rental to 70% before returning took less time than me finding a toilet in a suburban strip mall after my 3 hr drive. We got from 37-75% in about 15 minutes. If I needed a car, it'd be a Model 3 because of efficiency. Having something capable of doing distances longer than my 39 yr old bladder & stomach is all I really want and, unfortunately, no other EV under $100k can.
It works about 80% for me. But others are not much better. I would love to see a working Matrix LED headlight as in the VW products. And a working recognition of ALL street signs. But it gets better with every update. Slowly but surely.
@@manu144x The Performance models are not really diffrent to the Long Range models, they get another Software and stronger Inverters. Tesla does not differentiate everything else. Sometimes they leave the Subwoofer, sometimes they leave the back seat heating. Thats all. Our cars already have the Matrix LED hardware since 2021 but the Software does not use them.
The biggest surprise for me is how much fun it is to drive. As a Taycan and 911 owner I find the Model Y driving experience beats both in everyday driving conditions. It’s fast, quiet, corners flat and has instant response. Plus one pedal driving is a total game changer. I didn’t buy it for fun so it’s really surprised me.
Very good review, solid. I'm thinking about a model Y too because in my eastern european country there's a 10k euro price reduction for full EV's so it makes things interesting. Taking all the factors in account, I too believe that the model 3 and y have no competitors in the EV market. I checked all the european ones, VW, Renault, Peugeot, there's just nothing there for the same price point. But the big difference for me is that with a Tesla I can take a road trip anywhere in europe with 0 issues. I took a trip 1200km trip with a Model 3 a few years ago and it was seamless, we only lost 1 extra hour, the car charged while we ate or took bathroom/smoking breaks. Anytime we wanted to use another charger it was a mess. Apps to install, cards, maybe it wasn't working, all kinds of issues. I wanted initially to buy an ev 100% as a city car, as I have a diesel monster for long trips but it ends up costing like a standard range model 3, anything out there.
The best feature that can solve some of your sited issues is the fact that Tesla get a software update approximately every two weeks. I’ve been amazed at what has been improved via these updates, and knowing that my car is better today than a year ago so unusual for a car owner. Of course the constant changes aren’t for everyone.
Yes, it's nice when they update something, which IMO needed updating, but not when something I liked disappears. I understand how some people are drawn to this smartphone-like experience, but I'm more picky about my cars, and I like to choose the best experience currently available, rather than whatever the future holds.
@@MarekDrivesENG Fair point Marek, I find that of my group of friends with Tesla's, two groups tend to dislike the cars, one "car lovers" dislike it because it doesn't have all the buttons, sticks, switches or luxury features that other cars do, and 'people who don't like change' as they hate the updates , both of these groups unfortunately suffer due to Tesla goal to enable software to control the car ( to allow updates, its easier if more buttons/setting can be dynamically changed on-screen rather than physical buttons) and Tesla goal to reduce parts/complexity/cost means less. buttons, stalks, switches means less things break and build costs are lowered. Regardless of what type of person you are ( I'm a SW engineer so I'm amazed by their software capabilities), I just find that most reviews completely skip this part of the review, then my father wants to buy one, until I tell him the UI will change every few months and features will come and go. I believe they will stabilize this interface just like iphones, as the product become more mature ( already getting there) , FSD being the ultimate example , but that's another thread/video that would truly need to be refreshed once a month.
I noticed software engineers enjoy Tesla. And I get it. It's just not for everybody. Some say OTA updates are about improving. For me they are more about fixing, what should have been right in the first place :)
@@MarekDrivesENG this is wrong, Tesla has improved range via OTA after optimizing their BMS system, they have improved driving dynamics via OTA, and despite being the safest vehicle ever tested by EuroNCAP, they continue to improve safety features such as seatbelt tensioners, variable airbag deployment and collision avoidance and braking via OTA. On the infotainment side they have added steam integration, they have added various games & apps (eg. zoom). I find it difficult to comprehend how you can spin this into a negative, yet here we are
Have a 2023 Shanghai Y. Fit and finish v good. NVH similar. Many activities accurately respond to voice. Auto wipers accurate 80%. Auto lights 95%. Touch screen should be angle and distance adjustable. Glad stalks available (deleted 2024?). Phantom braking twice in 3500km.
I seen a tuber though it was phantom braking but I notice there was red truck creeping out intersection so the tesla stop he didn't notice the truck stop pass the crosswalk. I also found a animal start darting across the street my car stop at first I thought it was phantom braking but seen the animal running back the car seen it first I couldn't believe the car seen it first so maybe people are missing what the car sees only a split second

Thanks for your honest review. I now purchased (before seeing this video) the Model Y Long Range and this EV should meet all my needs and has plenty of features. I did take a Model Y for a nice test drive and really liked how it handled. I enjoy the Single Pedal Regen system. I didn't buy it for the acceleration and I definitely will not be doing off Road with it. Should be getting the vehicle in a few weeks. Plus I should be getting the 7,500 tax credit for the Model Y. I was looking at GM EV products, but got tired of waiting for them to arrive. Take care.
I think Tesla is amazing and I love watching their progress. When they made the model S, the whole world was forced to accept the reality of EVs, they still ignored them for almost ten years but the people of earth knew it was a reality.

The main thing that opponents of Tesla get wrong, is they seem to think that Tesla will stand still while the "competition" comes (all over itself). The reality is that Tesla is advancing and innovating far faster then the other EV OEMs and when they finallly "catch up" Tesla will be further ahead than it is now.
I suspect Project Highland is about to prove that point. Similarly, if Tesla is "advertising" it would be great if they simply listed the ongoing "under the skin" improvements by date for 3 and Y. I image these run in to the hundreds each year. Then you could request those "enthusiasts" of other brands to do the same when they moan a bout "old design" in the Tesla lineup.

Yes, you click a button on the left, and a menu opens on the screen on the right, so you have to take your eyes off the road. They are fixing problems, which should have never occurred in the first place, because in every (most) other car wiper controls are on the stalks :)

Model Y long range is the most practical Tesla, Change my mind. I only wish it was a bit cheaper, and also have an air suspension upgrade option, for off-road, for 5-7k dollars extra option, to bring the wheels +50% suspension height and active air suspension. (And an extra option for a built in corrugated retractable panoramic sunroof cover, with reflective top and interior color matched bottom.)
Tesla is my next car, I own a chevy Bolt 2022. I bought the bolt off the dealers lot because of the redesign. Did not test drive it......Big mistake. I bought it and received all the rebates in which made the car that more desirable. I bought the Premier model with the Bose sound system and leather seats and sun roof. Over all the car looks beautiful .....but rides like and old chevy station wagon with worn shocks. Thanks for the info on the Tesla, I test drove one the other day, Im waiting for the title for the bolt and selling it and getting the Tesla,,,,,The build quality and feel over the Bolt is amazing!!! Great honest video Marek. One thing for sure is having to go through the computer to access just about everything seems to be a complete distraction and extremely annoying. Have always been slow on computers therefore personally would be an accident waiting to happen. Like to keep eyes on road whilst adjusting things like radio and heating controls etc. The range seems very average and having range anxiety is just another thing to add stress to a journey, especially driving in the countryside where charging is far more limited. The price for a vehicle with all these limitations seems obscene, thinking too that in few years time these will be more or less obsolete because of the vast improvements in technology which are exploding onto the market because of billions being spent on R&D. 10 years is a long time in the motor industry and can only imagine how different things will be from these humble beginnings, perhaps like comparing the Ford model T with cars 60 years later.
I'm totally with you on physical controls. Unfortunately most carmakers these days move away from buttons in favour of touchscreens. And I get their rationale behind it. It's cheaper, and easier to introduce (sell/rent/subscribe to) new features. On a positive note, driving through the countryside range should be closer to 500 km, as you'll be driving slower, than on the motorway.
I was under the impression they just came out of nowhere, and did no damage to the climate, until you peel back the covers and look at the big picture.🤣
21:06 - agree about the windshield wipers. The automatic function has been acting differently than my preferences as well. I don’t disagree with the headlights nearly as much, and not at all insofar as the ambient luminescence threshold. Neat thing about Tesla- that should be getting significantly better soon with a free OTA update. Nice.
3:29 - it was Ford who said they would sue if Tesla used the Model E name as Ford has the Econoline series of vehicles. The badges say “E - 350” or “E-450”.
The point about hazard warnings all using the same bleep and then disappearing from the screen, was so well observed that I wonder why I bother with any other reviewers. The panel gaps, weird control interface and general flimsiness leave me unimpressed - not my vision of the future
@@StephenJamieson thank goodness! I'd have such a big head that none of my hats would fit. I do however have a Peugeot in which several warnings use the same bleep, causing distraction at the very moment when observation is required. But at least the information is displayed close to your line of sight in the Pug, because of the i-cockpit set-up.
I guess you never experience a Tesla in real. The panel gab this car has is very abnormal. What the reviewer shows is just unacceptable, I never seen it before. The car should not be on the road like this. The control interface is very acceptable. You compare a feature phone against touch screen phone. There are enough essential shortcut buttons on the car. The wiper feature is incorrect. It is also just a button on the lever to activate, as you do on another car. And push a button on the steering wheel to change the setting. You don't even have to look at the screen.
@@TheVorst many reviewers, often owners, mention problems with Tesla panel gaps, although I'm sure the build quality is improving. The point about undifferentiated bleep warnings chimed with my experience of Peugeot - they tend to take your eyes off the road when the road most needs your attention. If I find the Peugeot I cockpit infuriating it's hard to see how a much more complex screen-based interface would suit me
So, in the ~3K kilometers you drove the car, how many times after the initial set up did you need to adjust the steering wheel? Don’t worry, these types of concerns are common for people who haven’t lived with the car. People think it’s important to mention. I have had mine for only 6 months, but it is so fun to drive we just turned over 15K miles and I have adjust ed the steering wheel once on delivery day and that was it. No sense is designing, installing, and all of the associated costs of maintaining a single button or lever for something that gets used rarely.
Actually I find myself readjusting the seats and mirrors slightly, especially on longer journeys, as my body gets tired. I may have a slightly different driving position in the winter, when I'm wearing a thicker jacket and winter boots, than in the summer, when I wear much thinner clothes. I know it's supposed to keep the price low, but I also think it's reinventing something that doesn't need reinventing.
Good review. You didn't talk about the harsh ride in the Model Y. I drove two and felt each time my neck and head took a beating. This isn't the case in the Model S.
Actually I did: "Suspension - from my point of view it is comfortable, but several people who rode with me on short and long distances found the suspension in the Tesla Model Y rather stiff. I guess I drove a bit more cars to compare it against." In other words, other people noticed, I think you can find worse.
@@MarekDrivesENG good to know. honestly, the harsh ride on Los Angeles freeways was a deal breaker. Even my Ford Mach-e has a somewhat harsh ride compared to my Avalanche and my S400 but not as bad as the Model Y.
1.: Better noise insulation means being heavier, its a perfectly working compromise. IMHO of course! 2.: Use a soft cushion. I like the rough ride quality, it connects my but to the street and lets me know what the car does all the time. My but is soft enough to endorse some massage. With soft rides in Korean and German cars you will need massage seats which cost miuch money. 3.: No, Just NOOOOO!!!! They are totally unnecessary and distract from driving at night. I have those in the Skoda Enyaq and do not know how to shut them off. What i miss: 1: Always working street sign recognition 2: Intelligent Matrix LED Headlights 3: Swipe to open the trunk 4: More space, thats why i've ordered Cybertrucks. Finally: Full Self Driving
Great review Marek! I'm so bipolar on this car... Efficiency, charging speed and performance are something to drool about, but man I hate the lack of physical buttons that you can activate and check the status by mere blind touch... I hated Mercedes' single stalk because you had to remove the hand from the wheel to engage the wipers, this is hundred times worse.
I've seen the new ID.7 in metal today. Much improved interior. If claimed range is even 30-40% off, this is going to be the first proper Tesla competitor. I'll get to do a proper review probably early Q1 2024. Fingers crossed.
My few cents. I have a 2023 model 3 standard range. Bought it this March, my previous car was a diesel passat. Range and charging. Range from 100 to 10 percent is about 300 km in the winter (temps around zero C) and 360 kms in summer (15-20 C). Superchargers are plentiful, reliable, fast and convenient, especially in Germany, where most of them are located on motorway service stations (so you dont have to make large detours). I was surprised how smooth the roadtrips in this car are - I barely feel the difference compared to diesel, and I've taken long trips (around 1000 kms) in this thing already. I normally charge on public 22kw AC stations close to my home or work, finding them is not a problem in the Czech Republic (Prague at least) and Germany. When using the 22kw stations, my "fuel" price is about 70 percent of what I used to pay for my passat. Driving. I was driving slow and boring cars before (i30s, passats, normal golfs etc), so for me both handling and acceleration are fantastic. Driving this thing brings me joy every time. Practicality. It's OK, we (family of three) fit just fine. Not nearly as practical as my passat though - my son's car seat does not fit behind me (where we always used to put it), so my wife has to take its place. She complains about the lack of leg room. The frunk is super useful for storing the AC charging cable, which always gets dirty from the rain and mud. Quality. My biggest complaint so far. Panel gaps are OK, but interior rattles are horrible. 3rd tesla service appoinmtent coming next week, really hope they can fix it this time 😂 Overall a fantastic vehicle though. Super happy with it.
@@Watcher_in_the_Dark_studio I always wanted to try EVs, so when Tesla slashed its prices, model 3 was the logical choice. On a more pragmatic side, I also drive a lot (3-4k/month), so 30% fuel savings and lack of oil changes add up quickly.
@@mad4tar77 my passat rattled, my golf rattled, my i30 rattled. My friend's 3 series door cards rattle (15k kms, owned from new). My other friend had to reglue the center console of his Alfa stelvio because it was very noisy. Which car does not rattle these days?
Model Y will be my next car as soon as I can be sure it will have hardware 4 and LFP batteries. At this time, in Canada, I believe they are currently imported from China. Tesla won't confirm or deny what's in their cars, so I will wait until it can be confirmed in some other way - fine, my car is good for a few more years! This is the first review I come across that feels honest and trustworthy. I fell in love with the idea of electric cars because of their simplicity (relatively speaking) but they are just reaching the maturity level I find acceptable.
I appreciate the nuance! I'm a Model Y owner, and I get sick of reviews being very polar. Often based on what they think their audience thinks of Elon Musk. Liberal audience? "Elon is a fascist" and then the whole review for the car is "The car exploded", "It abducted about 17 children in the local neighborhood." Techie audience? "Daddy Elon is here to save the day." and then the whole review is "This car is light years ahead of the competition. There's nothing wrong to speak of." So as a techie liberal Model Y owner, this is all very confusing and I feel like simply buying a car was some grand political statement that made everyone think I'm their enemy. So my +/- + Performance. It's why I went electric, and why I went Tesla. Others overcharge for their performance by comparison. + Safety. Another reason I went Tesla. Safest SUV on the road. + Infotainment. I am ABSOLUTELY SICK of car after car having a newbie intern make a slow interface on 20 year old hardware. + Internal engineering. Another reason I went Tesla. Built to be electric from the ground up. Not hacking motors into a gas car. + Build Quality. People seem to chuckle at this. But the car doesn't squeak or rattle. Panels were great. + Minimalist aesthetic. I always preferred this. I added S3XY Buttons later to give me ONLY the functionality I need, ONLY where I want it. Having 60 buttons you never use is dumb to me. + HEPA filter. Mine didn't come with it originally. But I literally just asked them for the parts for a conversion. They only charged for a filter. - Clear Coat. A bit soft. I have PPF now. I think most cars should have some sort of self-healing coating or film from the factory. - Suspension. Not nearly as bad as I thought. But I came from a Buick and live in the Midwest. No more gliding over potholes. - Politics. When I bought it, I was a "Hippie communist". Then Elon moved to Texas and suddenly I'm some "dudebro alt-right psycho". - Headlights. If you use auto-brights, it'll make sure to flash everyone. Matrix lights aren't allowed in the US, so it's all or nothing. Would I buy again? I think so. I would do a decent number of test drives. I'd try to see how livable the Aptera is, or how practical the F150 Lightning is. And I would either hope they would bring back ultrasonics, or buy used. But definitely the best vehicle I've ever owned or driven.
This I agree on. It mostly works. Mostly, because you have to remember to turn the climate control on, and make sure the car is unlocked, when you leave someone on the car. Or leave the phone behind. On leave the door not shut properly (which is not a problem, as fit and finish is what it is). In a regular car you just leave your passenger with the key or even leave the car/AC running (if it is legal, because in some areas/countries you cannot leave the car idling for more than a minute).
I am a viewer from the United States and not saying everything about a Tesla is absolute perfection is going to make your comment section fill up with disparaging comments from Elon Musk's minions! Base level Model S in Aus is currently $57k, that's 35k Euro!! Base Model Y is $65,400 - 40k Euro. In Australia at least the Tesla's are highly competitive, more than highly competitive.
Not having a car at all is the best option in my opinion. I rarely need a car, so I use my electric moped and public transportation for almost everything, but when I need a car, which on average happens about once a month, I rent a car. These days I only rent electric cars since I don't find them as boring as I find combustion cars and I find it nice that I can rent whatever I need at the moment, so I don't have to own a car that can do everything (which doesn't exist anyway). Also, thanks to not owning a car I could afford to buy a much bigger flat, even though the prices for those in my country are ridiculously high, and my income is slightly below average in my country.
Autopilot does not mean autonomous driving. For example, autopilot on an airplane does not allow the pilot to leave the cockpit and serve the passengers refreshments. In both cases, the person is required to be attentive.
My reaction was exactly like yours. I kept thinking oh that's good, oh what the hell were they thinking?? That's awful. In the end, every legacy EV in Canada has a long wait time like 12-18 months. EV6, Ioniq 5, Blazer, Q4, ID4, Lyric... Polestar 2 and XC40 are reasonable wait times and the Model Y and 3 you can get immediately. VW has particularly been screwing around with their ID4 options deleting some including the heat pump while they increase the price. It's sadly comical. So I think many people just buy the Model Y because there's no wait times and the price drop was massive. For me, I'm not sure that's enough. Out of the EVs I've driven, I thought the EV6 AWD was the best.
Why not drive a VW ID4? Then you can charge at the always and everywhere perfectly working, cheap Electrify America Stations! Is that not incentive enough?
Great review! One of the things to be mindful of Tesla is that they are extremely cost conscious. They know that if they can't get EVs to be cost comparible to ICE vehicles, they wont sell. So they will accept cosmetic defects to a greater degree than traditional manufacturers. The touch screen controls are a feature of this. All the little buttons and knobs in traditional cars all add wiring, component and other costs, and cannot be changed with a software update. They will always choose a cheaper solution by technology if one is available. This could be a criticism but it has allowed Tesla to be financially sustainable and expand the affordability of EVs. And a car that you can afford is always going to be a better purchase than one you can't afford.
This is all true, but I think the turn signals not being stalks is an issue. I have never driven a Tesla, but I can't imagine how you can hit the right button on the steering wheel when it's not in the default position - e.g. when leaving a roundabout.

Since 2017 when I sold my last car, I rented all Teslas except model Y. There's only one that I like, and that's model S. That's the one I rented most times (S90D). Unfortunately no car rental place near me have them anymore, so these days it's whatever is available each time.
What is so good about the seats? It is the worst thing about the car! They are way too short and have very limited motion. I can't lower them enough to prevent rear view mirror from limiting my sight. Also no support to my legs... Btw, when you set the car in revers side view mirrors go into pre set position which is not how i want them to be. This can't be changed, you have to adjust then every time... Cruise control is bad too.
I can't comment as to whether Tesla instals the same seats in every market (I'm talking about the internals), because nobody knows what Tesla puts in their cars. As for the mirrors, I may have seen an option to prevent tilting in reverse. Again, it may depend on software version, and be available or disappear depending on the build. And nobody fucking knows, because Tesla :)

What Tesla does with Autopilot was on an Infinity Q50, which I reviewed back in 2014-5? You can get better driver assist features on a compact hatchback, like a VW Golf or a Ford Focus (albeit it usually requires ordering a higher equipment version). As for the engine choice, it depends on where you live, and what's your use case scenario. I'm fine with a petrol on short-to-mid distance journeys, but if I had to travel 300+ km regularly I'd choose a diesel. If there were tax incentives, and I had a place to charge, maybe a PHEV would make sense, but then I'd need a bigger car to compensate for the smaller boot space, etc.
"So what is the best family SUV with the best safety tech?" Tesla, by far the safest car of all. "Best bang for your buck?" Depends what you define as bang. For me its Tesla. Its certainly the cheapest. Even cheaper than VW or Toyota. Death to all fossil!
This is a cheerful review, but what is striking is that not a word is mentioned about the problem if you order a model Y (MY) now: the lack of parking sensors! For me the reason to cancel my order of a MY in January when I found out after purchase. Cameras and software should overcome this problem, Tesla said, but of course the camera under the windshield can't see around the nose of the car, around a corner. There is now a blind spot of about a meter. Previously, thanks to sensors on the screen with guide lines, you could see to an accuracy of almost a few cm how far your front bumper was from a wall, for example. This is no longer possible in the new MYs. No matter how good the car is, I wouldn't think it should be done in a car worth 50,000 euros or more from 2023 without those handy sensors that helped you park or drive into your garage in previous MY versions. Tesla has announced that it no longer wants to do anything about this (no "retrofit"). Shame! The inconvenience about this is now spreading on UA-cam. So that's also why it's so special that this review is silent about it... Missed opportunity to send a signal to Tesla in the US via Tesla NL (who knows, maybe they'll be watching too!). Something for a next video?
There's only so much I can put in a review, and maintain some sort of flow. I agree cameras instead of parking sensors are crap. They sort of work, but only sort of.
Tesla has some annoyances, but so far the positives outweigh the negatives. I currently drive a Model 3, bought it used, to get FSD. Used market FSD cars are rarely any more expensive than EAP or standard autopilot. Main positives: efficiency, low need of maintenance, ease of use. Main negatives: poor auto windshield wipers, some recent software upgrades.
Which recent software upgrades were a negative for you? In 2019 and 2020 there were a few i did not like, but since 2022 i have not found one negative point.
Your info about the capacity in the trunk is not entirely correct. Total withouth folding seats and excluding below floor is 854 liters and not 400. (as said around 4.35)
Tesla provides a non-VDA figure up to the roof. VDA is up to the parcel shelf/window line. I don't have 20x10x5 cm blocks to do a precise VDA measurement, but I can roughly multiply my analogue measurements, and it's more or less what I said :)
Why do we still assume AP is non existent when current builds in the US is very good although not perfect? Simply said, there is no competition and the possibility of full AP is become more achievable with every build.
Great review as always. Out of curiosity, how did you come up with the 400 liters and the over 100 liters of boot space under the floor when tesla says 854 for the boot? That would mean that either there are approximately 300 + liters of space over the boot cover (but there most certainly aren't ) or Tesla is lying about boot capacity or something is not right with your quoted figures.
@@MarekDrivesENG Oh yeah i know they measured it the roof, i don't know how you measured it to the shelf because the numbers don't add up the way i see it. if you are saying the boot up the parcel shelf is 400 lt and under the floor over 100 lt, ( lets say 550 total ) then it means that there are at least 300lt of space over the parcel shelf - to get to teslas 854 lt.
I haven't measured it, but comparing the boot size to my Golf's boot (375), I would say it's much more than 400 litres. I think it's closer to 500. So 500+150+204 litres.

I don't think FSD beta is available in Europe. You can buy it, but no benefits its just a promise. Even on the screen when you talked about FSD beta, you only used the lane keeping assist + some old version of visualization(from 2020) we get in europe :(

Autopilot on an airplane generally means it will hold a straight course and speed, and not much more. Steering in a lane is more than enough to call it autopilot in a car.
It's fascinating how when Elon said "the driver is there only for legal reasons" Tesla community was all like "this thing drives itself", and now as Tesla is backing out of its claims (after people died using autopilot), the community is like "check for definition of autopilot, it's like on an airplane, nobody said it's going to drive itself". Of course it's not going to drive itself, and it was never going to. It's ADAS, and everyone, who knows anything about cars was scratching their heads, every time some Tesla fanboy said "but this is different, this is better". No it's not! But Elon made it to look like it is.
19:45 - nope. If the driver is doing it wrong, despite all of the information from the manufacturer, then the driver is at fault. Same thing when cruise control came out. If someone were to assume cruise control also did steering and then the vehicle crashed because it went straight when the road curved, then the driver is at fault. It is not the fault of the brand if people don’t read and understand the information about the product they bought and are using.
I love your droll review style Marek!! I have no faith in the UK charging network when you need to do a long drive when everyone else also does - ie bank holidays /holiday season/sunny weekends. Only last week on a normal Saturday morning, we stopped for a Starbucks drive thru coffee at 7.30am - all EV chargers including Tesla ones were taken. It made me laugh inside as an £80k Porsche Tacan driver had to wait over 30 mins for a charge. Meanwhile we had grabbed a coffee and our newly delivered VW V6 diesel SUV (omg I must worship the anti-Christ and murder fluffy bunnies…) said I still had over 590 miles range. Apparently it will say this come sun, rain, ice or snow! Amazing! So yes EVs are great as your local commuter, but not so much for anything else, yet. Oh - and let’s just hope home charging isn’t also affected by Russian despots and no wind next winter……… PS - I would not be happy with that panel fit if I had just taken delivery of my £55k motor….

Regarding the notion that your Tesla was not a "driving" car; you seem to forget that the Model Y is a SUV, so why compare it to a Taycan?Is a Taycan a SUV? Maybe you are not a "driving" person and don't understand the difference between a sedan and a SUV? I would have thought a comparison to another SUV would have been a more balanced. If you want a "driving " car, try a Tesla Model 3 Performance. I went from a C55 AMG (which I owned for many years) to a Tesla 3 Performance (hire car) and I was blown away - better straight-line performance; better handling; better steering; far better sound system (okay the AMG was not new); better far more comfortable seats; better front visibility (rear visibility not as good). My AMG made most cars feel slow and awkward; the Model 3 Performance made my AMG feel slow and awkward. So how about a more balance review.
Those Tesla owners possible bias due to free miles or reward points for referring a buyer is like those "journalists" who never mention they are staying at a luxury resort courtesy of a manufacturer or contractor of a manufacturer putting on a drive event. The VinFast reviews done about six months ago was glaring bad with the event happening on a one of their hotel resort island properties and it was interesting to see how many admitted they were part of a multi-day vacation resort drive event set-up by VinFast. The other possible bias of "journalists" is if you need vehicles to review and want them from companies, what you say may have to be very diplomatic to put it nicely. In media as a whole, access to interviews with top officials often causes some members to tone down their opinions of those officials or organizations. In the US, the White House press core, which is a small group of selected media, gets access to top officials and to be in certain places, but if you make them mad, you are kicked out of the press core. I do think it is good to make people aware of bias in all kinds of media and life in general. I am amazed to meet people from time-to-time who seem to accept opinions as unbiased on a variety of topics or from a variety of sources. I hate it when people use one or two sources to gather information. I also hate it when people seek only those opinions that line up with their own. Living in an echo chamber is a bad way to live. As far as the software controls over physical controls, most owners I have spoken with over the years have had much more praise than disappointment with it. I believe it does create an easier ability to add and update features. Tesla has a true software engineering team, not outsourced like some builders. I believe that is why their software seems to get the most praise after the Google and Apple systems. It seems most companies do a poor job when they do it on their own or they do not pick the best software partners. The recent push back against Apple CarPlay by builders is probably driven by the data collected. That data is modern gold or oil and has great value. There is also the idea that software sales for apps and certain upgrades would have Apple get piece of the pie. The recent Tesla and Ford deal was not just for charging network access, but software as well. I do wonder if Tesla will try to become the alternative OS for builders who do not want Google or Apple to have control. That is something we will see play out over the next few years. Not sure when the rental fleets will get the Model Y's with the Hardware 4 in them, but it might be worth renting for a day one of those. Good luck with your future reviews and keep calling out possible biases. It is good to make viewers think about motivations.
This is going to be a long one. Yes, by now everyone's heard of the VinFast press tour, and TBH if half of it is true, then I'm disappointed so many prestigious media outlets fell for it. But I wasn't there, and I don't know anyone personally, who could corroborate the rumours. As for media launches in general, it's down to logistics. When you launch a product, you want the media to publish something about it. However you have to coordinate it with client presentations, actual product availability, etc. So if the media from all over the world are supposed to get to know the product (at least some initial impressions) by a certain date, you need to get them to a place, where the product is available, and so are experts, who can answer questions about the product. The latter is often increasingly pointless, because anyone, who has anything remotely interesting to say about the product is usually not there, or is scared shitless to say anything else than you can read in the official press release. But if you pour enough alcohol into them at dinner, sometimes they'll say something more, than they should, and that's always a bonus. My big trip last year was from Warsaw, Poland to Palm Springs, CA, US. So I spent two days going there and back, one day waiting for the actual event (because of the connection), and one day at the event. Two days would be better, but the cars were used by a different group of journalists, because this was a launch event, and logistics... If I could get the car in Poland for 4 days, instead of flying to Palm Springs, I'd be more than happy. But since this was a new car, there was an embargo, etc., I would not be able to get the car in Poland. As far as putting journalists in posh hotels is concerned, 1. The Ritz in Palm Springs is overrated ;) 2. I suspect people within the companies launching whatever product also want to spend time somewhere nicer, than an Express Inn. They are there for weeks, while journalists arrive for 24-48 hours. And since I spent many hours on the plane, and I'm jet-lagged, the least they can do is give me a comfortable bed, so the next day I'm able to do my work, and bring back something worth publishing from the trip. I sincerely hope that whoever is taken to one of these events brings back something worth publishing, regardless whether it's online, print, TV, etc. If someone is there just for the drinks, they will not get invited back. And usually to get invited there, you have to be more, than an intern for the Springfield News (no offence to Springfield). Do the media have to write nice things about the product they are reviewing? Judging by your criticism of my review, they (I) don't :) I'm expressing my opinion based on facts. I do think Tesla is different for the sake of being different. But I also acknowledge some people may find this refreshing. I can see how EVs work well in certain regions/situations. In my region/situation Tesla is the best EV, but it's still an EV.
I have had my MYLR for nine months and I do not agree with may of your issues. The ride and handling are as good or better than any competing cars. Saying a 5 passenger SUV does not corner as well as a Porsche is just stupid. Take your Porsche and do the hill climb test or put a bunch of luggage in the boot. Really tired of people saying buttons are better. Tell that to blackberry and Nokia. Once you get used to the screen you hardly notice. We take our dog with us very often and dog mode is great. Sine I bought the car they improved dog mode by letting you see the cabin camera from the app. This was a really useful feature that my car just got. OTA is a fantastic advantage. Dismissing it seems to be very biased in the opposite way you are accusing the Tesla fans. I agree that autopilot is a pretty marketing term for the basic autopilot but my wife and I used it 95% of the time we drive and it works pretty damn well. Makes driving way less stressful. The scroll wheel to adjust speed is just so easy and intuitive. You are right is does not catch some speed limit signs but a couple swipes with the thumb and you are good. Big deal. I don't see why you seem to think it was some Tesla scam to let people buy FSD and become beta testers. The Tesla approach to FSD is looking like the best one out there by a wide margin. I was not interested myself in being a beta tester and so I did not pay anything. Now my car has all the hardware being used by beta testers and if Tesla actually makes FSD work in the lifetime of my car I will be able to buy or subscribe to a service that will make my car autonomous. No other car manufacturer anywhere can make that claim. When you say I want to by a car now with the features I want that is reasonable but having a car go from manual to autonomous is a pretty big deal and seems like a huge advantage for Tesla.
Lucky for you the car did not need service while you had it. Tesla customer service is the worst I have ever experienced. Been waiting over two months for mobile service to arrive. Still three weeks away. Customer service was lousy even before we picked up the car. Had to drive 300 miles to the service center to get the darn radio fixed. I could go on. Thinking of selling my 202 Model 3 with only 20k miles on it.
Your review of autopilot was very ill informed. Autopilot is no extra charge and is an adaptive cruise control. It has no self driving at all. There is a separate lane keeping included at no extra charge that works quite well but that is all it does. If you change lanes then you have to restart your lane keeping. FSD (full self driving uses the navigation) and can drive most places without driver assistance (but quite expensive). There is also enhanced auto pilot (extra charge) that can change lanes and self park. I have a model 3 that is a joy to drive, hugs the road like a sports car and gets 100k range for 14kw of power. I love the lack of buttons as it is so easy to clean the interior compared to any car I have ever driven. If you add up all the settings available on the Tesla screen and you installed them with buttons, you would end up with a cockpit like an airplane. If you are setting most anything in any car, you have to pull your car over so Tesla screen modifications are no different. You are entitled to dislike any car for any reason but not liking a luxury, modern, minimalist interior puts you in the minority. The Model Y was the highest selling model car, of any kind, in the world, last month.
17:05 - The falsehoods will never die. Please get this right. Autopilot in Tesla cars is exactly analogous to Autopilot in the namesake of the word - speed and steering in a plane when the plane is at cruising altitude. It’s not when the plane is taking off or landing (which would be equivalent to the car doing all of the driving on smaller city roads). A quick Internet search for the definition of Autopilot should suffice.
Dictionary of autopilot and Tesla's hype around it are two different things. It was always presented as autonomous driving, which it never was, and very likely it will never become.
I'm in the process of watching but want to point out that all of the manufacturers are publicly traded so the same can be said of the other manufacturers if you own that brand and give it a positive review as a share owner you'd benefit from the positive review.

You can tell from the start he doesn't like Tesla as a company and he has made multiple factual mistakes , for example it was not Mercedes that had an issue with the model E. To be fair he comes across as not liking anything so it could just be his style.
I'm sorry, but as a new Y owner and previous sports car enthusiast I think his depiction of Tesla owners not wanting to drive is lunacy. Auto Pilot takes the fatigue out of mundane highway driving...and most certainly doesn't diminish it's exceptional performance. Their aren't too many cars that can hang with me around town and the acceleration isn't a novelty, it's an invaluable tool...enough said.
Surprised by the consumption figures that you got with ID.5. I have an Enyaq Coupe RS, and on country roads with 4 people in the car and 12 degrees outside got 16 kWh. Maybe it's the heating setting? I prefer to keep mine at 19 degrees.
I drove the Enyaq in the winter, and ID5 during a heatwave, so neither were optimum conditions. But I never saw such low consumption. 20 is fairly normal.
@@MarekDrivesENG yeah, I also didn't expect to hit 16. But maybe it was the heatwave indeed in your case - today, with AC blasting at full power and frequent stops in the city I got around 21.
I’ve done range tests (loops) in urban settings (ca 15 degrees) here in Iceland with both ID.4/ID.5 and I easily get 15-16 kWh/100 km. I own a Model Y LR and the urban efficiency is very comparable to the ID.5. Model Y is more efficient on the highway though.
@Thor's EV perhaps I should mention driving style in Poland (although constantly improving) is much more frivolous, than in Nordic countries. 50 km/h means 70-80 km/h, and so on. Tailgating is normal, because if you leave too large of a gap, someone's bound to cut in, and you'll have to brake, make more space, and somebody else will cut in, etc. Legal motorway speed is 140 km/h, 120 km/h on dual carriageways, and everyone drives faster than that anyway. Perhaps VW products are geared more towards respecting the speed limits and smoother traffic flow. I was rather surprised to see Tesla do so well. I try to be somewhere in the middle, when it comes to driving, but I can't drive too slow, because it pisses other people off, and is unrealistic for driving conditions in Poland :)
@@MarekDrivesENG well you specifically mentioned city efficiency so I’m not sure why you bring up highway? Anyway semi standardised tests from, for example, Björn Nyland show that ID.5 gets just over 15 kWh/100 km at 90 kmh and the Model Y just over 14, very insignificant difference. And at city speeds the consumption will be even lower.
Great review. If they didn't all look the same, they would be more appealing. Every model looks the same, apart from the roof line. Very unimaginative and now also quite boring design. I'm not keen on french cars, so wouldn't have one, but the Mégane tech is much more appealing to me. To be honest though, I wouldn't even consider an electric car until I have no other option. Why? 1. Cost. 2. I have friends who can't charge at home and it currently costs them more to charge their car than it does to fill a similar car with unleaded. 3. Poor resale values seem to be becoming a bit of an issue with electric vehicles. 4. Insurance costs are higher. 5. It's a fad, that is already fading. Electric cars won't save the planet. Not while the batteries are being produced. At the moment I feel it would be better to have a small battery, in a self charging hybrid, that uses electric in built up areas, such as villages and towns to help their air quality. Or in traffic jams , or perhaps when travelling under 25mph, with 15 to 20 miles max range. Just my thoughts.
Thanks for sharing. I assume you're from the UK. I see the media over there are still very optimistic about EVs, but in the comment section I'm getting a sensation like the general public is less enthusiastic. As you said, it's still a costly hassle, if you don't have a reliable charging option at home or workplace, the latter probably being increasingly difficult, as people are more likely to work from home in the post-covid era.
Tesla 3 and Y lost the parking sensors and radar from Q3/2022 and relies only on camera based Tesla Vision... Therefore your dear Tesla can overlooked your dog, be careful :-) I have tried out only Tesla 3 and Skoda Enyaq and to be honest - I feel better in Enyaq, more comfort, the consumption is no bad if you can drive :-)
The use of voice command is very good in the Tesla and instead of flicking through menus, you should just tell the car what you need. The lack of buttons can be confusing for newbies but you'll get the hang of it after a while. Tesla is the only car that has proper over the air update on a regular basis, and when they make an improvement your car will get it asap. Not wait to the next in-house service at a dealership. The distance fairytale you are spinning is just guesswork and without proper testing you don't know what you are talking about. Sorry, but I will not subscribe to this channel, flatulence or not.
In Polish the command to open the glovebox often results in attempts to play music (otwórz - open vs. odtwórz - play). I imagine it depends on the language, and I wouldn't be surprised if more resources were spent on voice recognition in Scandinavian markets. How is my distance guesswork? The app it's not safe and has already been proved. Bluetooth it's not secure, so you should set a pin for driving and disable the drive without key feature
As a Tesla model Y owner for over 2 years, I agree with some but not most of your comments. The mirrors and seats you set once and never touch them again because they are saved to your profile. Same with the vent settings. I find the lights turn on appropriately with darkness. The construction of my Model Y was flawless. We have done absolutely no maintenance to the car except change tires for the time we have had our car. Tesla has added and refined multiple options over the years we have had the car. I will be buying my next Tesla when our lease is up. You also did not comment on the buying process, it is simply painless, you don’t have to deal with crooked salesmen and exorbitant mark ups.
I change the vent settings between summer and winter, but do not change the rest at all.
Just ordered a M3LR replacement. The old one is "dirty".

After a recent update you can now assign one of the buttons on the steering wheel to open the glovebox, I adjusted my seat, wing mirrors and steering wheel when I bought the car, not had to touch them since, saves many little used buttons and any assigned drivers can do the same. Autopilot is severely hampered by European regulation, plenty of videos from the USA showing what it can now do. Very happy with my Y after over 12 months use.

Agree with a lot of what you said.
Personally, the fact that the screen tech was so good (and useable), I wasn't so annoyed by having to change the lights & wipers on the rare occasion I did. You would hope the auto setting worked 100% of the time but it did, for me, 95%.
Charging my rental to 70% before returning took less time than me finding a toilet in a suburban strip mall after my 3 hr drive. We got from 37-75% in about 15 minutes.
If I needed a car, it'd be a Model 3 because of efficiency. Having something capable of doing distances longer than my 39 yr old bladder & stomach is all I really want and, unfortunately, no other EV under $100k can.
It works about 80% for me. But others are not much better. I would love to see a working Matrix LED headlight as in the VW products. And a working recognition of ALL street signs. But it gets better with every update. Slowly but surely.
In the USA autopilot seems to have more useful features

@@manu144x The Performance models are not really diffrent to the Long Range models, they get another Software and stronger Inverters. Tesla does not differentiate everything else. Sometimes they leave the Subwoofer, sometimes they leave the back seat heating. Thats all.
Our cars already have the Matrix LED hardware since 2021 but the Software does not use them.
The biggest surprise for me is how much fun it is to drive. As a Taycan and 911 owner I find the Model Y driving experience beats both in everyday driving conditions. It’s fast, quiet, corners flat and has instant response. Plus one pedal driving is a total game changer. I didn’t buy it for fun so it’s really surprised me.
Just as a matter of interest, as a Taycan and 911 owner, why do you need a TMY in your garage?
Very good review, solid. I'm thinking about a model Y too because in my eastern european country there's a 10k euro price reduction for full EV's so it makes things interesting.
Taking all the factors in account, I too believe that the model 3 and y have no competitors in the EV market. I checked all the european ones, VW, Renault, Peugeot, there's just nothing there for the same price point.
But the big difference for me is that with a Tesla I can take a road trip anywhere in europe with 0 issues. I took a trip 1200km trip with a Model 3 a few years ago and it was seamless, we only lost 1 extra hour, the car charged while we ate or took bathroom/smoking breaks.
Anytime we wanted to use another charger it was a mess. Apps to install, cards, maybe it wasn't working, all kinds of issues.
I wanted initially to buy an ev 100% as a city car, as I have a diesel monster for long trips but it ends up costing like a standard range model 3, anything out there.

I have owned Model Y for 3 years now. Never had an issue. In my opinion it is still the best EV on the market by far.
The best feature that can solve some of your sited issues is the fact that Tesla get a software update approximately every two weeks. I’ve been amazed at what has been improved via these updates, and knowing that my car is better today than a year ago so unusual for a car owner. Of course the constant changes aren’t for everyone.
Yes, it's nice when they update something, which IMO needed updating, but not when something I liked disappears. I understand how some people are drawn to this smartphone-like experience, but I'm more picky about my cars, and I like to choose the best experience currently available, rather than whatever the future holds.
@@MarekDrivesENG Fair point Marek, I find that of my group of friends with Tesla's, two groups tend to dislike the cars, one "car lovers" dislike it because it doesn't have all the buttons, sticks, switches or luxury features that other cars do, and 'people who don't like change' as they hate the updates , both of these groups unfortunately suffer due to Tesla goal to enable software to control the car ( to allow updates, its easier if more buttons/setting can be dynamically changed on-screen rather than physical buttons) and Tesla goal to reduce parts/complexity/cost means less. buttons, stalks, switches means less things break and build costs are lowered.
Regardless of what type of person you are ( I'm a SW engineer so I'm amazed by their software capabilities), I just find that most reviews completely skip this part of the review, then my father wants to buy one, until I tell him the UI will change every few months and features will come and go. I believe they will stabilize this interface just like iphones, as the product become more mature ( already getting there) , FSD being the ultimate example , but that's another thread/video that would truly need to be refreshed once a month.
I noticed software engineers enjoy Tesla. And I get it. It's just not for everybody. Some say OTA updates are about improving. For me they are more about fixing, what should have been right in the first place :)

@@MarekDrivesENG this is wrong, Tesla has improved range via OTA after optimizing their BMS system, they have improved driving dynamics via OTA, and despite being the safest vehicle ever tested by EuroNCAP, they continue to improve safety features such as seatbelt tensioners, variable airbag deployment and collision avoidance and braking via OTA. On the infotainment side they have added steam integration, they have added various games & apps (eg. zoom). I find it difficult to comprehend how you can spin this into a negative, yet here we are

I seen a tuber though it was phantom braking but I notice there was red truck creeping out intersection so the tesla stop he didn't notice the truck stop pass the crosswalk. I also found a animal start darting across the street my car stop at first I thought it was phantom braking but seen the animal running back the car seen it first I couldn't believe the car seen it first so maybe people are missing what the car sees only a split second

Thanks for your honest review. I now purchased (before seeing this video) the Model Y Long Range and this EV should meet all my needs and has plenty of features. I did take a Model Y for a nice test drive and really liked how it handled. I enjoy the Single Pedal Regen system. I didn't buy it for the acceleration and I definitely will not be doing off Road with it. Should be getting the vehicle in a few weeks. Plus I should be getting the 7,500 tax credit for the Model Y.
I was looking at GM EV products, but got tired of waiting for them to arrive.

The main thing that opponents of Tesla get wrong, is they seem to think that Tesla will stand still while the "competition" comes (all over itself). The reality is that Tesla is advancing and innovating far faster then the other EV OEMs and when they finallly "catch up" Tesla will be further ahead than it is now.
I suspect Project Highland is about to prove that point.
Similarly, if Tesla is "advertising" it would be great if they simply listed the ongoing "under the skin" improvements by date for 3 and Y.
I image these run in to the hundreds each year.
Then you could request those "enthusiasts" of other brands to do the same when they moan a bout "old design" in the Tesla lineup.

Yes, you click a button on the left, and a menu opens on the screen on the right, so you have to take your eyes off the road. They are fixing problems, which should have never occurred in the first place, because in every (most) other car wiper controls are on the stalks :)

I only wish it was a bit cheaper, and also have an air suspension upgrade option, for off-road, for 5-7k dollars extra option, to bring the wheels +50% suspension height and active air suspension.
(And an extra option for a built in corrugated retractable panoramic sunroof cover, with reflective top and interior color matched bottom.)
Tesla is my next car, I own a chevy Bolt 2022. I bought the bolt off the dealers lot because of the redesign. Did not test drive it......Big mistake. I bought it and received all the rebates in which made the car that more desirable. I bought the Premier model with the Bose sound system and leather seats and sun roof. Over all the car looks beautiful .....but rides like and old chevy station wagon with worn shocks.

One thing for sure is having to go through the computer to access just about everything seems to be a complete distraction and extremely annoying.
Have always been slow on computers therefore personally would be an accident waiting to happen.
Like to keep eyes on road whilst adjusting things like radio and heating controls etc.
The range seems very average and having range anxiety is just another thing to add stress to a journey, especially driving in the countryside where charging is far more limited.
The price for a vehicle with all these limitations seems obscene, thinking too that in few years time these will be more or less obsolete because of the vast improvements in technology which are exploding onto the market because of billions being spent on R&D.
10 years is a long time in the motor industry and can only imagine how different things will be from these humble beginnings, perhaps like comparing the Ford model T with cars 60 years later.
I'm totally with you on physical controls. Unfortunately most carmakers these days move away from buttons in favour of touchscreens. And I get their rationale behind it. It's cheaper, and easier to introduce (sell/rent/subscribe to) new features.
On a positive note, driving through the countryside range should be closer to 500 km, as you'll be driving slower, than on the motorway.
I was under the impression they just came out of nowhere, and did no damage to the climate, until you peel back the covers and look at the big picture.🤣
21:06 - agree about the windshield wipers. The automatic function has been acting differently than my preferences as well. I don’t disagree with the headlights nearly as much, and not at all insofar as the ambient luminescence threshold. Neat thing about Tesla- that should be getting significantly better soon with a free OTA update. Nice.
OTA updates don't necessarily mean it's going to get better. It may be different, but not necessarily better.
3:29 - it was Ford who said they would sue if Tesla used the Model E name as Ford has the Econoline series of vehicles. The badges say “E - 350” or “E-450”.

The customization of the settings are usually done once and saved in your profile. I never change again. We have profiles for all who need. 🥳
The point about hazard warnings all using the same bleep and then disappearing from the screen, was so well observed that I wonder why I bother with any other reviewers. The panel gaps, weird control interface and general flimsiness leave me unimpressed - not my vision of the future

I do however have a Peugeot in which several warnings use the same bleep, causing distraction at the very moment when observation is required. But at least the information is displayed close to your line of sight in the Pug, because of the i-cockpit set-up.
I guess you never experience a Tesla in real. The panel gab this car has is very abnormal. What the reviewer shows is just unacceptable, I never seen it before. The car should not be on the road like this. The control interface is very acceptable. You compare a feature phone against touch screen phone. There are enough essential shortcut buttons on the car. The wiper feature is incorrect. It is also just a button on the lever to activate, as you do on another car. And push a button on the steering wheel to change the setting. You don't even have to look at the screen.
@@TheVorst many reviewers, often owners, mention problems with Tesla panel gaps, although I'm sure the build quality is improving. The point about undifferentiated bleep warnings chimed with my experience of Peugeot - they tend to take your eyes off the road when the road most needs your attention. If I find the Peugeot I cockpit infuriating it's hard to see how a much more complex screen-based interface would suit me
So, in the ~3K kilometers you drove the car, how many times after the initial set up did you need to adjust the steering wheel? Don’t worry, these types of concerns are common for people who haven’t lived with the car. People think it’s important to mention. I have had mine for only 6 months, but it is so fun to drive we just turned over 15K miles and I have adjust ed the steering wheel once on delivery day and that was it. No sense is designing, installing, and all of the associated costs of maintaining a single button or lever for something that gets used rarely.
Actually I find myself readjusting the seats and mirrors slightly, especially on longer journeys, as my body gets tired. I may have a slightly different driving position in the winter, when I'm wearing a thicker jacket and winter boots, than in the summer, when I wear much thinner clothes.
I know it's supposed to keep the price low, but I also think it's reinventing something that doesn't need reinventing.
Good review. You didn't talk about the harsh ride in the Model Y. I drove two and felt each time my neck and head took a beating. This isn't the case in the Model S.
Actually I did:

@@MarekDrivesENG good to know. honestly, the harsh ride on Los Angeles freeways was a deal breaker. Even my Ford Mach-e has a somewhat harsh ride compared to my Avalanche and my S400 but not as bad as the Model Y.
3 things need improvement:
1. Better noise insulation.
2. Better ride quality
3. Nice ambient lighting like Mercedes or BMW.
1.: Better noise insulation means being heavier, its a perfectly working compromise. IMHO of course!
2.: Use a soft cushion. I like the rough ride quality, it connects my but to the street and lets me know what the car does all the time. My but is soft enough to endorse some massage. With soft rides in Korean and German cars you will need massage seats which cost miuch money.
3.: No, Just NOOOOO!!!! They are totally unnecessary and distract from driving at night. I have those in the Skoda Enyaq and do not know how to shut them off.
What i miss:
1: Always working street sign recognition
2: Intelligent Matrix LED Headlights
3: Swipe to open the trunk
4: More space, thats why i've ordered Cybertrucks.

Great review Marek! I'm so bipolar on this car... Efficiency, charging speed and performance are something to drool about, but man I hate the lack of physical buttons that you can activate and check the status by mere blind touch... I hated Mercedes' single stalk because you had to remove the hand from the wheel to engage the wipers, this is hundred times worse.
I've seen the new ID.7 in metal today. Much improved interior. If claimed range is even 30-40% off, this is going to be the first proper Tesla competitor. I'll get to do a proper review probably early Q1 2024. Fingers crossed.
The earliest Nissan Leafs had the buttons, HUDs solved. Tesla should have paid attention. Fie on that screen.
My few cents. I have a 2023 model 3 standard range. Bought it this March, my previous car was a diesel passat.
Range and charging. Range from 100 to 10 percent is about 300 km in the winter (temps around zero C) and 360 kms in summer (15-20 C). Superchargers are plentiful, reliable, fast and convenient, especially in Germany, where most of them are located on motorway service stations (so you dont have to make large detours). I was surprised how smooth the roadtrips in this car are - I barely feel the difference compared to diesel, and I've taken long trips (around 1000 kms) in this thing already. I normally charge on public 22kw AC stations close to my home or work, finding them is not a problem in the Czech Republic (Prague at least) and Germany. When using the 22kw stations, my "fuel" price is about 70 percent of what I used to pay for my passat.
Driving. I was driving slow and boring cars before (i30s, passats, normal golfs etc), so for me both handling and acceleration are fantastic. Driving this thing brings me joy every time.
Practicality. It's OK, we (family of three) fit just fine. Not nearly as practical as my passat though - my son's car seat does not fit behind me (where we always used to put it), so my wife has to take its place. She complains about the lack of leg room. The frunk is super useful for storing the AC charging cable, which always gets dirty from the rain and mud.
Quality. My biggest complaint so far. Panel gaps are OK, but interior rattles are horrible. 3rd tesla service appoinmtent coming next week, really hope they can fix it this time 😂
Overall a fantastic vehicle though. Super happy with it.
From your feedback I do not understand why you would replace VW Passat with Tesla Model 3. What is the main benefit for you?
@@Watcher_in_the_Dark_studio I always wanted to try EVs, so when Tesla slashed its prices, model 3 was the logical choice. On a more pragmatic side, I also drive a lot (3-4k/month), so 30% fuel savings and lack of oil changes add up quickly.

@@mad4tar77 my passat rattled, my golf rattled, my i30 rattled. My friend's 3 series door cards rattle (15k kms, owned from new). My other friend had to reglue the center console of his Alfa stelvio because it was very noisy. Which car does not rattle these days?

Adjustments are made once every 6 months. I set my AC to 22c when I buy the car good for 10 years.

Model Y will be my next car as soon as I can be sure it will have hardware 4 and LFP batteries. At this time, in Canada, I believe they are currently imported from China. Tesla won't confirm or deny what's in their cars, so I will wait until it can be confirmed in some other way - fine, my car is good for a few more years!
This is the first review I come across that feels honest and trustworthy. I fell in love with the idea of electric cars because of their simplicity (relatively speaking) but they are just reaching the maturity level I find acceptable.
I appreciate the nuance! I'm a Model Y owner, and I get sick of reviews being very polar. Often based on what they think their audience thinks of Elon Musk.
Liberal audience? "Elon is a fascist" and then the whole review for the car is "The car exploded", "It abducted about 17 children in the local neighborhood."
Techie audience? "Daddy Elon is here to save the day." and then the whole review is "This car is light years ahead of the competition. There's nothing wrong to speak of."
So as a techie liberal Model Y owner, this is all very confusing and I feel like simply buying a car was some grand political statement that made everyone think I'm their enemy.
So my +/-
+ Performance. It's why I went electric, and why I went Tesla. Others overcharge for their performance by comparison.
+ Safety. Another reason I went Tesla. Safest SUV on the road.
+ Infotainment. I am ABSOLUTELY SICK of car after car having a newbie intern make a slow interface on 20 year old hardware.
+ Internal engineering. Another reason I went Tesla. Built to be electric from the ground up. Not hacking motors into a gas car.
+ Build Quality. People seem to chuckle at this. But the car doesn't squeak or rattle. Panels were great.
+ Minimalist aesthetic. I always preferred this. I added S3XY Buttons later to give me ONLY the functionality I need, ONLY where I want it. Having 60 buttons you never use is dumb to me.
+ HEPA filter. Mine didn't come with it originally. But I literally just asked them for the parts for a conversion. They only charged for a filter.
- Clear Coat. A bit soft. I have PPF now. I think most cars should have some sort of self-healing coating or film from the factory.
- Suspension. Not nearly as bad as I thought. But I came from a Buick and live in the Midwest. No more gliding over potholes.
- Politics. When I bought it, I was a "Hippie communist". Then Elon moved to Texas and suddenly I'm some "dudebro alt-right psycho".
- Headlights. If you use auto-brights, it'll make sure to flash everyone. Matrix lights aren't allowed in the US, so it's all or nothing.
Would I buy again? I think so. I would do a decent number of test drives. I'd try to see how livable the Aptera is, or how practical the F150 Lightning is. And I would either hope they would bring back ultrasonics, or buy used. But definitely the best vehicle I've ever owned or driven.

This I agree on. It mostly works. Mostly, because you have to remember to turn the climate control on, and make sure the car is unlocked, when you leave someone on the car. Or leave the phone behind. On leave the door not shut properly (which is not a problem, as fit and finish is what it is).
In a regular car you just leave your passenger with the key or even leave the car/AC running (if it is legal, because in some areas/countries you cannot leave the car idling for more than a minute).
I am a viewer from the United States and not saying everything about a Tesla is absolute perfection is going to make your comment section fill up with disparaging comments from Elon Musk's minions!

Base level Model S in Aus is currently $57k, that's 35k Euro!! Base Model Y is $65,400 - 40k Euro. In Australia at least the Tesla's are highly competitive, more than highly competitive.
Not having a car at all is the best option in my opinion. I rarely need a car, so I use my electric moped and public transportation for almost everything, but when I need a car, which on average happens about once a month, I rent a car. These days I only rent electric cars since I don't find them as boring as I find combustion cars and I find it nice that I can rent whatever I need at the moment, so I don't have to own a car that can do everything (which doesn't exist anyway). Also, thanks to not owning a car I could afford to buy a much bigger flat, even though the prices for those in my country are ridiculously high, and my income is slightly below average in my country.

Autopilot does not mean autonomous driving. For example, autopilot on an airplane does not allow the pilot to leave the cockpit and serve the passengers refreshments. In both cases, the person is required to be attentive.
My reaction was exactly like yours. I kept thinking oh that's good, oh what the hell were they thinking?? That's awful. In the end, every legacy EV in Canada has a long wait time like 12-18 months. EV6, Ioniq 5, Blazer, Q4, ID4, Lyric... Polestar 2 and XC40 are reasonable wait times and the Model Y and 3 you can get immediately.
VW has particularly been screwing around with their ID4 options deleting some including the heat pump while they increase the price. It's sadly comical.
So I think many people just buy the Model Y because there's no wait times and the price drop was massive. For me, I'm not sure that's enough. Out of the EVs I've driven, I thought the EV6 AWD was the best.
It's a car you buy, because you need to, not because you want to. It's an appliance. Everybody needs a fridge.

Great review! One of the things to be mindful of Tesla is that they are extremely cost conscious. They know that if they can't get EVs to be cost comparible to ICE vehicles, they wont sell. So they will accept cosmetic defects to a greater degree than traditional manufacturers. The touch screen controls are a feature of this. All the little buttons and knobs in traditional cars all add wiring, component and other costs, and cannot be changed with a software update. They will always choose a cheaper solution by technology if one is available. This could be a criticism but it has allowed Tesla to be financially sustainable and expand the affordability of EVs. And a car that you can afford is always going to be a better purchase than one you can't afford.
This is all true, but I think the turn signals not being stalks is an issue. I have never driven a Tesla, but I can't imagine how you can hit the right button on the steering wheel when it's not in the default position - e.g. when leaving a roundabout.
@@peter.g6 agreed. I Think its a terrible idea. Maybe works on a model s plaid which is awesome in so many ways that people will put up with it, but not in a model 3.
Since 2017 when I sold my last car, I rented all Teslas except model Y. There's only one that I like, and that's model S. That's the one I rented most times (S90D). Unfortunately no car rental place near me have them anymore, so these days it's whatever is available each time.
What is so good about the seats? It is the worst thing about the car! They are way too short and have very limited motion. I can't lower them enough to prevent rear view mirror from limiting my sight. Also no support to my legs... Btw, when you set the car in revers side view mirrors go into pre set position which is not how i want them to be. This can't be changed, you have to adjust then every time... Cruise control is bad too.
I can't comment as to whether Tesla instals the same seats in every market (I'm talking about the internals), because nobody knows what Tesla puts in their cars.
As for the mirrors, I may have seen an option to prevent tilting in reverse. Again, it may depend on software version, and be available or disappear depending on the build. And nobody fucking knows, because Tesla :)

GREAT HONEST REVIEW - I thought Tesla was the best at Autopilot, which brand is better? So what is the best family SUV with the best safety tech? Best bang for your buck? Hybrid ? Plug in Hybrid ? Diesel ( with add Blue) or petrol? or am I missing some other EV SUV ?
What Tesla does with Autopilot was on an Infinity Q50, which I reviewed back in 2014-5? You can get better driver assist features on a compact hatchback, like a VW Golf or a Ford Focus (albeit it usually requires ordering a higher equipment version). As for the engine choice, it depends on where you live, and what's your use case scenario. I'm fine with a petrol on short-to-mid distance journeys, but if I had to travel 300+ km regularly I'd choose a diesel. If there were tax incentives, and I had a place to charge, maybe a PHEV would make sense, but then I'd need a bigger car to compensate for the smaller boot space, etc.
"So what is the best family SUV with the best safety tech?" Tesla, by far the safest car of all.
"Best bang for your buck?" Depends what you define as bang. For me its Tesla. Its certainly the cheapest. Even cheaper than VW or Toyota.

Nope. I had passengers in the back freezing and trying all sorts of things. In the end we just put a blanket over the armrest to cover the vents.
This is a cheerful review, but what is striking is that not a word is mentioned about the problem if you order a model Y (MY) now: the lack of parking sensors! For me the reason to cancel my order of a MY in January when I found out after purchase. Cameras and software should overcome this problem, Tesla said, but of course the camera under the windshield can't see around the nose of the car, around a corner. There is now a blind spot of about a meter. Previously, thanks to sensors on the screen with guide lines, you could see to an accuracy of almost a few cm how far your front bumper was from a wall, for example. This is no longer possible in the new MYs. No matter how good the car is, I wouldn't think it should be done in a car worth 50,000 euros or more from 2023 without those handy sensors that helped you park or drive into your garage in previous MY versions. Tesla has announced that it no longer wants to do anything about this (no "retrofit"). Shame! The inconvenience about this is now spreading on UA-cam. So that's also why it's so special that this review is silent about it... Missed opportunity to send a signal to Tesla in the US via Tesla NL (who knows, maybe they'll be watching too!). Something for a next video?

Tesla has some annoyances, but so far the positives outweigh the negatives. I currently drive a Model 3, bought it used, to get FSD. Used market FSD cars are rarely any more expensive than EAP or standard autopilot. Main positives: efficiency, low need of maintenance, ease of use. Main negatives: poor auto windshield wipers, some recent software upgrades.
Which recent software upgrades were a negative for you? In 2019 and 2020 there were a few i did not like, but since 2022 i have not found one negative point.

Your info about the capacity in the trunk is not entirely correct. Total withouth folding seats and excluding below floor is 854 liters and not 400. (as said around 4.35)
Tesla provides a non-VDA figure up to the roof. VDA is up to the parcel shelf/window line. I don't have 20x10x5 cm blocks to do a precise VDA measurement, but I can roughly multiply my analogue measurements, and it's more or less what I said :)
I swapped an X5 for a Model Y … I utterly love it. The X5 had a crappy ride and was shocking on slippery surfaces.

Why do we still assume AP is non existent when current builds in the US is very good although not perfect? Simply said, there is no competition and the possibility of full AP is become more achievable with every build.
Great review as always. Out of curiosity, how did you come up with the 400 liters and the over 100 liters of boot space under the floor when tesla says 854 for the boot? That would mean that either there are approximately 300 + liters of space over the boot cover (but there most certainly aren't ) or Tesla is lying about boot capacity or something is not right with your quoted figures.
Tesla number is to the roof. In Europe we measure to the parcel shelf, which Tesla doesn't have outside Europe.

That's right. There's a fair bit of space under the slanted tailgate.
I haven't measured it, but comparing the boot size to my Golf's boot (375), I would say it's much more than 400 litres. I think it's closer to 500. So 500+150+204 litres.

I don't think FSD beta is available in Europe. You can buy it, but no benefits its just a promise. Even on the screen when you talked about FSD beta, you only used the lane keeping assist + some old version of visualization(from 2020) we get in europe :(

Autopilot on an airplane generally means it will hold a straight course and speed, and not much more. Steering in a lane is more than enough to call it autopilot in a car.
It's fascinating how when Elon said "the driver is there only for legal reasons" Tesla community was all like "this thing drives itself", and now as Tesla is backing out of its claims (after people died using autopilot), the community is like "check for definition of autopilot, it's like on an airplane, nobody said it's going to drive itself".
Of course it's not going to drive itself, and it was never going to. It's ADAS, and everyone, who knows anything about cars was scratching their heads, every time some Tesla fanboy said "but this is different, this is better". No it's not! But Elon made it to look like it is.

19:45 - nope. If the driver is doing it wrong, despite all of the information from the manufacturer, then the driver is at fault. Same thing when cruise control came out. If someone were to assume cruise control also did steering and then the vehicle crashed because it went straight when the road curved, then the driver is at fault. It is not the fault of the brand if people don’t read and understand the information about the product they bought and are using.

I have no faith in the UK charging network when you need to do a long drive when everyone else also does - ie bank holidays /holiday season/sunny weekends. Only last week on a normal Saturday morning, we stopped for a Starbucks drive thru coffee at 7.30am - all EV chargers including Tesla ones were taken. It made me laugh inside as an £80k Porsche Tacan driver had to wait over 30 mins for a charge.
Meanwhile we had grabbed a coffee and our newly delivered VW V6 diesel SUV (omg I must worship the anti-Christ and murder fluffy bunnies…) said I still had over 590 miles range. Apparently it will say this come sun, rain, ice or snow! Amazing!
So yes EVs are great as your local commuter, but not so much for anything else, yet. Oh - and let’s just hope home charging isn’t also affected by Russian despots and no wind next winter………
PS - I would not be happy with that panel fit if I had just taken delivery of my £55k motor….

Regarding the notion that your Tesla was not a "driving" car; you seem to forget that the Model Y is a SUV, so why compare it to a Taycan?Is a Taycan a SUV? Maybe you are not a "driving" person and don't understand the difference between a sedan and a SUV? I would have thought a comparison to another SUV would have been a more balanced. If you want a "driving " car, try a Tesla Model 3 Performance. I went from a C55 AMG (which I owned for many years) to a Tesla 3 Performance (hire car) and I was blown away - better straight-line performance; better handling; better steering; far better sound system (okay the AMG was not new); better far more comfortable seats; better front visibility (rear visibility not as good). My AMG made most cars feel slow and awkward; the Model 3 Performance made my AMG feel slow and awkward. So how about a more balance review.
I could compare it to a BMW X4 diesel, which is much more pleasant to drive, than the TMY. I drove the TM3, and I think it's just a meh.

Mazda is a nice car. But very small inside and the delivery times are terrible. Who wants to wait 6-12 months for a car?
Those Tesla owners possible bias due to free miles or reward points for referring a buyer is like those "journalists" who never mention they are staying at a luxury resort courtesy of a manufacturer or contractor of a manufacturer putting on a drive event. The VinFast reviews done about six months ago was glaring bad with the event happening on a one of their hotel resort island properties and it was interesting to see how many admitted they were part of a multi-day vacation resort drive event set-up by VinFast.
The other possible bias of "journalists" is if you need vehicles to review and want them from companies, what you say may have to be very diplomatic to put it nicely. In media as a whole, access to interviews with top officials often causes some members to tone down their opinions of those officials or organizations. In the US, the White House press core, which is a small group of selected media, gets access to top officials and to be in certain places, but if you make them mad, you are kicked out of the press core.
I do think it is good to make people aware of bias in all kinds of media and life in general. I am amazed to meet people from time-to-time who seem to accept opinions as unbiased on a variety of topics or from a variety of sources. I hate it when people use one or two sources to gather information. I also hate it when people seek only those opinions that line up with their own. Living in an echo chamber is a bad way to live.
As far as the software controls over physical controls, most owners I have spoken with over the years have had much more praise than disappointment with it. I believe it does create an easier ability to add and update features. Tesla has a true software engineering team, not outsourced like some builders. I believe that is why their software seems to get the most praise after the Google and Apple systems. It seems most companies do a poor job when they do it on their own or they do not pick the best software partners.
The recent push back against Apple CarPlay by builders is probably driven by the data collected. That data is modern gold or oil and has great value. There is also the idea that software sales for apps and certain upgrades would have Apple get piece of the pie. The recent Tesla and Ford deal was not just for charging network access, but software as well. I do wonder if Tesla will try to become the alternative OS for builders who do not want Google or Apple to have control. That is something we will see play out over the next few years.
Not sure when the rental fleets will get the Model Y's with the Hardware 4 in them, but it might be worth renting for a day one of those.
Good luck with your future reviews and keep calling out possible biases. It is good to make viewers think about motivations.

Yes, by now everyone's heard of the VinFast press tour, and TBH if half of it is true, then I'm disappointed so many prestigious media outlets fell for it. But I wasn't there, and I don't know anyone personally, who could corroborate the rumours.
As for media launches in general, it's down to logistics. When you launch a product, you want the media to publish something about it. However you have to coordinate it with client presentations, actual product availability, etc. So if the media from all over the world are supposed to get to know the product (at least some initial impressions) by a certain date, you need to get them to a place, where the product is available, and so are experts, who can answer questions about the product. The latter is often increasingly pointless, because anyone, who has anything remotely interesting to say about the product is usually not there, or is scared shitless to say anything else than you can read in the official press release. But if you pour enough alcohol into them at dinner, sometimes they'll say something more, than they should, and that's always a bonus.
My big trip last year was from Warsaw, Poland to Palm Springs, CA, US. So I spent two days going there and back, one day waiting for the actual event (because of the connection), and one day at the event. Two days would be better, but the cars were used by a different group of journalists, because this was a launch event, and logistics...
If I could get the car in Poland for 4 days, instead of flying to Palm Springs, I'd be more than happy. But since this was a new car, there was an embargo, etc., I would not be able to get the car in Poland.
As far as putting journalists in posh hotels is concerned, 1. The Ritz in Palm Springs is overrated ;) 2. I suspect people within the companies launching whatever product also want to spend time somewhere nicer, than an Express Inn. They are there for weeks, while journalists arrive for 24-48 hours. And since I spent many hours on the plane, and I'm jet-lagged, the least they can do is give me a comfortable bed, so the next day I'm able to do my work, and bring back something worth publishing from the trip.
I sincerely hope that whoever is taken to one of these events brings back something worth publishing, regardless whether it's online, print, TV, etc. If someone is there just for the drinks, they will not get invited back. And usually to get invited there, you have to be more, than an intern for the Springfield News (no offence to Springfield).

I'm expressing my opinion based on facts. I do think Tesla is different for the sake of being different. But I also acknowledge some people may find this refreshing. I can see how EVs work well in certain regions/situations. In my region/situation Tesla is the best EV, but it's still an EV.

I have had my MYLR for nine months and I do not agree with may of your issues. The ride and handling are as good or better than any competing cars. Saying a 5 passenger SUV does not corner as well as a Porsche is just stupid. Take your Porsche and do the hill climb test or put a bunch of luggage in the boot.
Really tired of people saying buttons are better. Tell that to blackberry and Nokia. Once you get used to the screen you hardly notice. We take our dog with us very often and dog mode is great. Sine I bought the car they improved dog mode by letting you see the cabin camera from the app. This was a really useful feature that my car just got. OTA is a fantastic advantage. Dismissing it seems to be very biased in the opposite way you are accusing the Tesla fans.
I agree that autopilot is a pretty marketing term for the basic autopilot but my wife and I used it 95% of the time we drive and it works pretty damn well. Makes driving way less stressful. The scroll wheel to adjust speed is just so easy and intuitive. You are right is does not catch some speed limit signs but a couple swipes with the thumb and you are good. Big deal.
I don't see why you seem to think it was some Tesla scam to let people buy FSD and become beta testers. The Tesla approach to FSD is looking like the best one out there by a wide margin. I was not interested myself in being a beta tester and so I did not pay anything. Now my car has all the hardware being used by beta testers and if Tesla actually makes FSD work in the lifetime of my car I will be able to buy or subscribe to a service that will make my car autonomous. No other car manufacturer anywhere can make that claim. When you say I want to by a car now with the features I want that is reasonable but having a car go from manual to autonomous is a pretty big deal and seems like a huge advantage for Tesla.

Lucky for you the car did not need service while you had it. Tesla customer service is the worst I have ever experienced. Been waiting over two months for mobile service to arrive. Still three weeks away. Customer service was lousy even before we picked up the car. Had to drive 300 miles to the service center to get the darn radio fixed. I could go on. Thinking of selling my 202 Model 3 with only 20k miles on it.

Your review of autopilot was very ill informed. Autopilot is no extra charge and is an adaptive cruise control. It has no self driving at all. There is a separate lane keeping included at no extra charge that works quite well but that is all it does. If you change lanes then you have to restart your lane keeping. FSD (full self driving uses the navigation) and can drive most places without driver assistance (but quite expensive). There is also enhanced auto pilot (extra charge) that can change lanes and self park. I have a model 3 that is a joy to drive, hugs the road like a sports car and gets 100k range for 14kw of power. I love the lack of buttons as it is so easy to clean the interior compared to any car I have ever driven. If you add up all the settings available on the Tesla screen and you installed them with buttons, you would end up with a cockpit like an airplane. If you are setting most anything in any car, you have to pull your car over so Tesla screen modifications are no different.
You are entitled to dislike any car for any reason but not liking a luxury, modern, minimalist interior puts you in the minority. The Model Y was the highest selling model car, of any kind, in the world, last month.
This is not a luxury car. Theoretically Tesla is a premium brand, but not a luxury brand.
17:05 - The falsehoods will never die. Please get this right. Autopilot in Tesla cars is exactly analogous to Autopilot in the namesake of the word - speed and steering in a plane when the plane is at cruising altitude. It’s not when the plane is taking off or landing (which would be equivalent to the car doing all of the driving on smaller city roads). A quick Internet search for the definition of Autopilot should suffice.
Dictionary of autopilot and Tesla's hype around it are two different things. It was always presented as autonomous driving, which it never was, and very likely it will never become.

I'm sorry, but as a new Y owner and previous sports car enthusiast I think his depiction of Tesla owners not wanting to drive is lunacy. Auto Pilot takes the fatigue out of mundane highway driving...and most certainly doesn't diminish it's exceptional performance. Their aren't too many cars that can hang with me around town and the acceleration isn't a novelty, it's an invaluable tool...enough said.
I know what Auto Pilot is supposed to do, but a Ford Focus with adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist can do the same or better.
Surprised by the consumption figures that you got with ID.5. I have an Enyaq Coupe RS, and on country roads with 4 people in the car and 12 degrees outside got 16 kWh. Maybe it's the heating setting? I prefer to keep mine at 19 degrees.
I drove the Enyaq in the winter, and ID5 during a heatwave, so neither were optimum conditions. But I never saw such low consumption. 20 is fairly normal.

I’ve done range tests (loops) in urban settings (ca 15 degrees) here in Iceland with both ID.4/ID.5 and I easily get 15-16 kWh/100 km. I own a Model Y LR and the urban efficiency is very comparable to the ID.5. Model Y is more efficient on the highway though.
@Thor's EV perhaps I should mention driving style in Poland (although constantly improving) is much more frivolous, than in Nordic countries. 50 km/h means 70-80 km/h, and so on. Tailgating is normal, because if you leave too large of a gap, someone's bound to cut in, and you'll have to brake, make more space, and somebody else will cut in, etc.
Legal motorway speed is 140 km/h, 120 km/h on dual carriageways, and everyone drives faster than that anyway.
Perhaps VW products are geared more towards respecting the speed limits and smoother traffic flow. I was rather surprised to see Tesla do so well.
I try to be somewhere in the middle, when it comes to driving, but I can't drive too slow, because it pisses other people off, and is unrealistic for driving conditions in Poland :)

Anyway semi standardised tests from, for example, Björn Nyland show that ID.5 gets just over 15 kWh/100 km at 90 kmh and the Model Y just over 14, very insignificant difference. And at city speeds the consumption will be even lower.
Great review. If they didn't all look the same, they would be more appealing. Every model looks the same, apart from the roof line. Very unimaginative and now also quite boring design.
I'm not keen on french cars, so wouldn't have one, but the Mégane tech is much more appealing to me.
To be honest though, I wouldn't even consider an electric car until I have no other option. Why? 1. Cost. 2. I have friends who can't charge at home and it currently costs them more to charge their car than it does to fill a similar car with unleaded. 3. Poor resale values seem to be becoming a bit of an issue with electric vehicles. 4. Insurance costs are higher. 5. It's a fad, that is already fading.
Electric cars won't save the planet. Not while the batteries are being produced.
At the moment I feel it would be better to have a small battery, in a self charging hybrid, that uses electric in built up areas, such as villages and towns to help their air quality. Or in traffic jams , or perhaps when travelling under 25mph, with 15 to 20 miles max range.

Thanks for sharing. I assume you're from the UK. I see the media over there are still very optimistic about EVs, but in the comment section I'm getting a sensation like the general public is less enthusiastic. As you said, it's still a costly hassle, if you don't have a reliable charging option at home or workplace, the latter probably being increasingly difficult, as people are more likely to work from home in the post-covid era.
Tesla 3 and Y lost the parking sensors and radar from Q3/2022 and relies only on camera based Tesla Vision... Therefore your dear Tesla can overlooked your dog, be careful :-) I have tried out only Tesla 3 and Skoda Enyaq and to be honest - I feel better in Enyaq, more comfort, the consumption is no bad if you can drive :-)
The use of voice command is very good in the Tesla and instead of flicking through menus, you should just tell the car what you need. The lack of buttons can be confusing for newbies but you'll get the hang of it after a while. Tesla is the only car that has proper over the air update on a regular basis, and when they make an improvement your car will get it asap. Not wait to the next in-house service at a dealership. The distance fairytale you are spinning is just guesswork and without proper testing you don't know what you are talking about. Sorry, but I will not subscribe to this channel, flatulence or not.
In Polish the command to open the glovebox often results in attempts to play music (otwórz - open vs. odtwórz - play). I imagine it depends on the language, and I wouldn't be surprised if more resources were spent on voice recognition in Scandinavian markets.
