Alright I don’t need any more wet wipes in these comments telling me you can’t use phones. Just use them when teachers aren’t watching. I thought that was obvious 🤷🏻♂️
the tips for those too lazy to watch: 1. bring a roll of bin bags 2. bring a gas stove, a gas canister and a kettle 3. make sure everything you bring is waterproof (plastic bags and protective covers) 4. you can use your guide ropes as washing lines 5. keep food in your front pocket or most convenient place 6. you can use the snapchat map to stay on track to find other people 7. DRINK WATER - keep 1 litre bottles on each side 8. make plastic bags with meals in each one 9. when wearing your bag, make sure the majority of your weight is on your hips 10. bring a portable charger if you’re bringing a phone (keep them in a plastic bag) 11. if you’re walking through bogs, stay near grass 12. bring a bit more clothes than you think you need 13. BRING SUNSCREEN 14. bring some money and earphones for the bus journey 15. bring a pen knife if you’re allowed 16. don’t bother bringing a pillow (use your coat, jumper or a pillow case which you can stuff) hehe thanks and sorry matt for stealing your watch time.
Another tip! Want a pillow? Take a pillow case and stuff your clothes and jacket in it Also you can store your clothes inside the pillow case so your bag stays organised

I've got my real one tomorrow- for the practice, I fell off the coach stairs ON THE WAY TO THE CAMP and hit my forehead... that was 4 months ago and now I have a scar for life😂 MY ADVICE IS MAKE SURE YOUR LACES ARE TUCKED IN YOUR SHOES!!!😂😭

I know this was 6 years ago but these hacks are LIFE SAVERS. I'm on my silver and I am definitely using these again this year. They were so helpful for my bronze.
The practice one was TORTURE...And the real deal is this Saturday =D I'm supposed to be packing my bag but... OH GOD IM GETTING FLASHBACKS D; oh and he's right bin bags are your only savior on D of E D; i wanted to take music but WE ARENT ALLOWED and that's just death in itself ;(
bhavanx Is your DofE today or next weekend? Yes I agree practice was horrible we went through nettles through the rain for like at least half an hour! ;_; app the actual thing is better tho so idk
Josh Smith my practise expedition was a few weeks ago (bronze) and we walked 7ish hrs both days. i was soo sore when we got back but was better by the monday (got home saturday)
So in 3 days I have my practice expedition and I don't have a sleeping bag. But my assessor put my name on a list for the stuff I need but people are telling me things like "good luck" and " there's nothing much you can do". I have to bring my ruck sack to school tomorrow and keep it there till the expedition
Under-rated tip(s) You know them £1 inflatable pillows. Bring it. It helps. Like just bring it. Please. Bring digestives, they make u happy. Bring a waterproof pouch thing for ur phone that goes over ur neck (i forgot what its called) Dont give ur teacher food they take all of it (i offered him a singular m&m and he took a handful) Take deodorant (even the travel stuff) u will need it. Listen and bohemian rhapsody on repeat. I was so thankful to my team for encouraging me on this journey. I got to sleep in my own tent during our final expedition. I am not the “fittest” of people ever and im so overweight but still managed to complete it so please dont feel like ur weight should destroy ur goals to complete this because i did it (it sucked at the time) but i would do it again if i could.
I want to do DofE now. Also, this reminded me to sign up and check if I missed the open evening. You have good ideas on how to survive. I liked this so much. Wait should I sign up?
This is actually helpful to me as a lot of this could apply to this program we have in certain US states called 4-H. Depending on your state, grade, and what your willing to pay for, there's certain camps that take you deep into the wilderness. (Ha! Like I'm doing that) But luckily for me, I haven't been to any that were really wildernessy, and my mom wouldn't want me to go. I stick to the more civilization ones and thankfully your allowed to bring cell phones now as before I would 4 days and 1 half day behind on everything.
I have just passed my bronze DofE Expedition and the thing that was most handy to me was to use your fleece as a cover and use your sleeping bag as a pillow and also to have a 4 litre water bladder at the top of your bag so you don’t have to keep taking your bottle out and back in
It depends on where you love in the UK. We did ours in Malvern and the Cotswolds. Malvern was a beast. We climbed through some guys massive garden for a shortcut but ended up leaving a water bottle behind as we jumped across the mini lake. That was too long of a day
It was raining that hard on the practice day of dofe that we had to go back home before even camping because the rain was that bad :) loved every minute whoop
look... if you feel shit about your expedition, just remember that my group walked for 4 hours uphill, just had to follow a canal to the end, the followed it the wrong way all the way back to the start. that was a fun day
DofE in Scotland allows you to do what you want but there’s only 2 rules. Don’t leave the area for the expedition and make it to the camps on time (but if your late they really don’t give one 😂)

If your pack weighs in at 15 kg for a 4 day and 3-night expedition set within one or maybe 2 different environments, I would seriously look at reducing pack weight somehow. A possible source of information would be to look at the American long-distance walkers even if you are not intending to walk a long distance. Andrew Skirka is a good one to look at for guidance. Though to be fair, The D of E guidance will probably overule anything.
Can I just ask how you guys passed your exped (particurlaly thr other group) as you are not meant to take any technology due to google maps other locational apps
I remember when they were telling us about the expedition, he was like “it will be sixteen hours of walking” I didn’t think it was that bad. “...over two days” *i choked*
I'm going to use this if I get talked into backpacking with my wildlife class. (I'm American so we don't have DoFe but I'm in a 2 year corse for wildlife and nature careers) I'll probably get talked into backpacking

Our school was super relaxed about phones and stuff, we used Bluetooth speakers to blast music as we walked 😂
Literally just commented saying we couldn't use phones 😂😂😂😂 I love your videos. They're amazing.
Our school search our bags... 😅
our school searched our bags and put our phones in sealed envelopes so they’d know if we used them :/
Another one for bin bags - A girl in my DofE group wore a bin bag.
Ted Hailwood lmao 😂
Ted Hailwood i looked like a bin bag in my waterproofs
I bet she looked so amazing!!
My dofe guide promised us all fish and chips at the end of it all.
He lied.
Was sad.

Ooof that's cruel.
