I saw them live two weeks ago and having watched hundreds upon hundreds of reaction videos to Ghost Love Score I thought I was a bit fed up with the song. I still got emotional as soon as the drums started.
I love watching people react to Ghost Love Score for the first time! You didn't disappoint!! The word "siren" is used quite often and rightly so. Floor isn't human, she's something supernatural! The transition from slight confusion to awe and then to pure joy is always a pleasure to see!
It's called "symphonic metal". There were 22,000 people at this concert in Tampere, Finland. They have performed in front of 82,000 people at Wacken Open Air in Germany. Nightwish is big, and ya, America lives under a rock. I saw your reaction to the Phantom, plus I've seen your reactions to Rugby and and other stuff. You need to do more of this with Nightwish and other European music. Just as a teaser, you've heard Floor Jansen's beautiful, melodic, soprano voice. She can also go full metal with the high, distorted belts, vocal fry and death metal growls. Dude, get into European metal and be prepared to get your socks knocked off. Should we tell him about Jinjer, Arch Enemy, or Fleshgod Apocalypse? And then there's Unleash the Archers and Spiritbox from your northern neighbours. There's hundreds of bands to listen to. There are great American bands like Tool that never get the air play as they don't fit the simplistic, fast food, dumbed down, quick buck mold of the American music industry. Start digging as it's fun.
And the Valkyrie Goddess claims another soul! Floor is the most charismatic vocalist since Freddie Mercury (and one of the nicest people in the world) The rest of the band are all masters of their craft. Fun fact: Every version of this song on UA-cam is epic in different ways. The "Standard" starting point is at their now legendary set when they headlined at Wacken Open Air in 2013 (in front of 82000 metalheads screaming Floor's name. She had just joined the band 10 months before, as an emergency replacement for their previous lead singer, who had to bow out for medical reasons. That was in the middle of the North American leg of a world tour. At Wacken she had yet to record anything with the band (and only just been offered a permanent spot in the band) so the crowd in the audience had not heard her before. The expressions on the band's faces says it all: "Yeah, THIS is what we sound like now!" I find that Nightwish ALWAYS delivers!
Her charisma is just as magical (and rare) as her voice! The Freddie Mercury reference is totally valid. I always thought of him as "THE" most charismatic vocalist of all time...until I heard/saw Floor! And she is genuinely one of the kindest, most humble "celebrities" ever! Personality-wise, she reminds me a lot of Lzzy Hale (Halestorm)...and that's intended as a huge compliment to both.
I've never heard this version of the song and I am actually very impressed with it! Was sceptical in the start but I do rate this up there with the best versions of the song.

Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboardist and chief composer, is an amazing songwriter and his music and lyrics are superb. Worth listening to every song at Wacken 2013 to get an idea of some of what they are capable especially with their latest and current singer, Floor Jansen the six feet tall Dutchwoman.
Originally Floor was sent by Allfather Odhinn to Midgard to gather the souls of fallen warriors to Valhalla, but she got distracted and joined a series of bands. However, Floor still gathers souls by her grace, beauty and the sheer power of her vocals. Just an awesome reaction dude! It is generally accepted that the 2013 version at Waken is the best but this has always been my favourite. The mix is far superior and the end is even more epic. I was with you emotionally every step of the way because no matter how many times I hear this it still gives me chills. If you continue your Nightwish journey I will be with you every step of the way. If you choose something from 2013 onwards you will hear the amazing Floor Jansen ( the singer you have just heard). She can give you anything from opera to heavy metal growls. I recommend “Storytime” or “Romanticide” live from Waken 2013 for your next reaction. Greetings from the UK.
I love how we can love different things because I actually hate everything about this performance 😅 I love the Wacken one best to be sure, and ig it sounds different my brain gets upset if that makes sense 🙃. But I also appreciate that earler live one, can't remember now. I think Buenos Aires, from this same tour.
Not only is the Waken version better as far as audio & video quality - it is also more dramatic and rather than a tiny audience shown here the crowd of 82,000 adds to the atmosphere.
Tbf some reactors do have trouble and need to pause but there are many reaction videos especially of the live stuff that don't stop at all and don't have any problem with it apparently.
And Floor claims another soul. I hope that you continue to explore the world of Nightwish, the best symphonic metal band in the world. Floor is, of course, Floor, but the entire band is a marvel, so tight and professional. Every song is different and you will swear that each "last song" you listen to is the best one. My suggestion for the next listen is Romanticide - Live at Wacken 2013 - correct speed. It is important that you chose the correct speed version for some reason that is totally beyond my very untechnical ability to explain. But, the Nightwish Army knows its band and if they suggest a certain version, you can rest assured that is the one that will give you the best experience. I am going to subscribe to your channel because the next best thing to discovering this band's music for the first time is watching someone else go through the discovery process.
Ghost Love Score - the typical introduction for Nightwish newcomers. What surprised me, however, is that you chose the concert in Tampere. Personally, I think the Wacken version from 2013 is better, but ok Nightwish is always extremely good on a live stage. A lot of people? Haha,Wacken 2013 there were about 60,000 more.

"The Islander" is sung by Marko out on the thrust stage at first with no accompaniment. Just him and "the Beast". You'll get it when you see it. Later the band comes in and Floor sings backing vocals for him. Stick around to the end to see Floor applaud him as he walks back to the band. That speaks volumes about the band. The band finishes off with "The Greatest Shown On Earth". Just a little 20+ minute ditty on the evolution of the planet earth and the life upon it. Y'know, just the usual 3 minute radio pop fluff with Evolution, Darwin, Bach and Metallica. Again, stick around until the end. Listening to this song plus "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" will help anyone pass their grade 12 biology exam. When is the last time you heard two songs reference ion channels, LUCA, eukaryote, aye-aye, Tiktaalik, Panthalassa, Archean horizon, Devonian Sea and Lucy of the Afar? Google them. OK, so more than two songs . . . The entire setlist of this show is a recommendation as there are no fillers or weak songs in the entire list. But if you want to dabble "Yours is an Empty Hope" (very heavy and pay close attention to Floor in the chorus - you will be surprised). You've now heard Marko in "The Islander" so you know what he sounds like. Hint, Hint. Who you think is doing what is not who you think is doing what. "Stargazers" where Floor imitates the original singer for the benefit of the Finnish audience. This song is not high on my list, but if you did it back-to-back with "Yours is an Empty Hope" it starts to get even more mind blowing. And then do the rest . . . And then there's Wacken Open Air, Wembley Arena, Buenos Aires, Hellfest, Deichbrand, Mexico City, Rio, etc. etc. etc. Then there's Floor's recent solo stuff, her Northward project, her COVID covers, her two TV shows, After Forever (her first band), ReVamp (her second band), Aryeon (super group project), her numerous guest appearances, opera stuff. Ending of GLS in Wacken was great but this...this have more visual candy than in Wacken. Floor slides on long stage like angel who has come middle of the mortals and removes all pain from them with her sinking skills... Sure all GLS endings are great because there are some differences as an sprice....

I was shocked when I first heard Nightwish as well about a year ago. Was further shocked when I learned they had been around since the late 90s. Why had I not heard of them before? I listen to a lot of different music, rock being my favorite. They are amazing. I loved them instantly and wished I had heard them years ago.

Is absolutely amazing watching someone falling in this rabbit hole as I did. Nightwish is my favorite band but Floor is my idol. You have a lot to dig in her other bands, tv shows and solo career. Do you know that she did a tour with Nightwish all around the world, treat a cancer in the middle of it and did her solo career tour including open to Metallica while pregnant in less than an year time? Wacken wacken wacken...I can hear the Ducks going "Wack!". Wacken is magical esp. as history it was Floors major introduction to the fans, and the crowd energy is fantastic...but the mix is so much better on this GLS version, Marco's bass lines stand out, the orchestral swells are clearer...and the extras Floor adds to the final bit top even Wacken. Good one. The whole show was excellent try any other song same show. People usually start with the Wacken 2013 show where Floor was introduced to the European fans as the new singer.
If you want to hear Nightwish do something closer to classic rock, try their Pink Floyd cover of High Hopes. It's Marko singing, tho, not Floor or Tarja. Or for stripped down experience, How's the Heart, acoustic Planet Rock session. It's Troy, Floor and a guitar.

There are a few UA-cam videos of Floor singing other genres. Look out for the Beste Zanger videos where she sings quite a wide range. She sings the Stabat Mater Dolorosa with Simone Simons and Epica. There's a video of Floor singing Let it go from Frozen and another of her singing O Mio Babino Caro from one of Puccini's operas.

It is generally accepted that the 2013 version at Waken is the best but this has always been my favourite. The mix is far superior and the end is even more epic.
I was with you emotionally every step of the way because no matter how many times I hear this it still gives me chills.
If you continue your Nightwish journey I will be with you every step of the way.
If you choose something from 2013 onwards you will hear the amazing Floor Jansen ( the singer you have just heard). She can give you anything from opera to heavy metal growls. I recommend “Storytime” or “Romanticide” live from Waken 2013 for your next reaction.

I love how we can love different things because I actually hate everything about this performance 😅 I love the Wacken one best to be sure, and ig it sounds different my brain gets upset if that makes sense 🙃. But I also appreciate that earler live one, can't remember now. I think Buenos Aires, from this same tour.
Not only is the Waken version better as far as audio & video quality - it is also more dramatic and rather than a tiny audience shown here the crowd of 82,000 adds to the atmosphere.

Floor is, of course, Floor, but the entire band is a marvel, so tight and professional. Every song is different and you will swear that each "last song" you listen to is the best one. My suggestion for the next listen is Romanticide - Live at Wacken 2013 - correct speed. It is important that you chose the correct speed version for some reason that is totally beyond my very untechnical ability to explain. But, the Nightwish Army knows its band and if they suggest a certain version, you can rest assured that is the one that will give you the best experience. I am going to subscribe to your channel because the next best thing to discovering this band's music for the first time is watching someone else go through the discovery process.
Ghost Love Score - the typical introduction for Nightwish newcomers. What surprised me, however, is that you chose the concert in Tampere. Personally, I think the Wacken version from 2013 is better, but ok Nightwish is always extremely good on a live stage.

OK, I'm not putting up the links as UA-cam's dumb algorithms are likely to think it's spam, but here's two other songs from the same concert that will also blow your mind in different ways.
"The Islander" is sung by Marko out on the thrust stage at first with no accompaniment. Just him and "the Beast". You'll get it when you see it. Later the band comes in and Floor sings backing vocals for him. Stick around to the end to see Floor applaud him as he walks back to the band. That speaks volumes about the band.
The band finishes off with "The Greatest Shown On Earth". Just a little 20+ minute ditty on the evolution of the planet earth and the life upon it. Y'know, just the usual 3 minute radio pop fluff with Evolution, Darwin, Bach and Metallica. Again, stick around until the end. Listening to this song plus "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" will help anyone pass their grade 12 biology exam. When is the last time you heard two songs reference ion channels, LUCA, eukaryote, aye-aye, Tiktaalik, Panthalassa, Archean horizon, Devonian Sea and Lucy of the Afar? Google them.
OK, so more than two songs . . .
The entire setlist of this show is a recommendation as there are no fillers or weak songs in the entire list. But if you want to dabble "Yours is an Empty Hope" (very heavy and pay close attention to Floor in the chorus - you will be surprised). You've now heard Marko in "The Islander" so you know what he sounds like. Hint, Hint. Who you think is doing what is not who you think is doing what.
"Stargazers" where Floor imitates the original singer for the benefit of the Finnish audience. This song is not high on my list, but if you did it back-to-back with "Yours is an Empty Hope" it starts to get even more mind blowing.
And then do the rest . . .
And then there's Wacken Open Air, Wembley Arena, Buenos Aires, Hellfest, Deichbrand, Mexico City, Rio, etc. etc. etc. Then there's Floor's recent solo stuff, her Northward project, her COVID covers, her two TV shows, After Forever (her first band), ReVamp (her second band), Aryeon (super group project), her numerous guest appearances, opera stuff. Well, there's a lot to cover before we get to the rest of the Nightwish gang and their other stuff.

I was shocked when I first heard Nightwish as well about a year ago. Was further shocked when I learned they had been around since the late 90s. Why had I not heard of them before? I listen to a lot of different music, rock being my favorite. They are amazing. I loved them instantly and wished I had heard them years ago.
I've listened to Nightwish countless times since I first found them last November. I think this is the first time I've ever seen this particular version of the song though - not sure how I've missed it!

Do you know that she did a tour with Nightwish all around the world, treat a cancer in the middle of it and did her solo career tour including open to Metallica while pregnant in less than an year time?
She is an amazing person and so humble. She is always happy on stage… she is a goddess 🥰
Wacken wacken wacken...I can hear the Ducks going "Wack!". Wacken is magical esp. as history it was Floors major introduction to the fans, and the crowd energy is fantastic...but the mix is so much better on this GLS version, Marco's bass lines stand out, the orchestral swells are clearer...and the extras Floor adds to the final bit top even Wacken. And I've heard Wacken at least 100x.
And then at Buenos Aires where they hear Floor for the first time...and end cheering her by name,...

Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples:

Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor joined Nightwish after the iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band.
