I've seen covid protests in China, only violent in some areas, but generally peaceful. Subsequently, many western media praised the protesters and said "Chinese government suppressed those prostestors". Right now, the media in the US is quiet or but active about TikTok, SCS issues, Ukraine war or Trump.
One thing I hate about the media is how some news outlets refer to protesters as anti-Israel. Such labeling is suggestive of them being pro-Hamas, but that's not the case.

Rajab's family were fleeing the Tel Al-Hawa neighborhood of Gaza City when an Israeli army tank shot at their vehicle, killing Rajab's aunt, uncle, and four cousins. The only other survivor at the time, Rajab's 15 year old cousin, called the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) for emergency aid in a recorded phone call, crying and screaming that Israeli forces were shooting at them amid the sound of gunfire before going silent when she was also killed.
Six year old Rajab was then the sole survivor in the car, surrounded by the dead bodies of her family, and her subsequent emergency three-hour phone call with PRCS was released, in which she told the dispatcher, "I'm so scared, please come. Come take me. Please, will you come?" Hind was also eventually killed by Israeli forces.

It is correct that violence in Gaza is unacceptable and criticism of Israel and its allies is justified. However, the issue with this video and demonstration is their failure to acknowledge Hamas's slaughter on October 7th. That is problematic. Also, not all students are peaceful.

Well, the thing is, hypocrisy is everywhere, even in this very video. The main part of this video was dedicated to attacking the US government/politicians when the title called for respect for Gen Z and accusation of genocide. If you want to respect them and criticize genocide, do it DIRECTLY, i.e., treat it as an end rather than a means for something else. How does, for example, the US's comment on HK protests have anything to do with the genocide in Gaza? Can we just stop this whataboutism, because every government must lie sometimes to remain in power (none of them is morally impeccable).
Can we look at the protests in the US without remembering the ones in HK? The answer is YES, of course, and vice versa.

While some protesters were peaceful, others engaged in property destruction, similar to Hong Kong. Both sides used hateful rhetoric, and acknowledging this complexity is crucial. If you paid more attention, you'd see that protesters have disregarded many facts. It's a valid argument to point out the double standard of certain Western politicians, but you're guilty of the same double standard. You criticized manipulated Hong Kong protesters and politicians, but don't apply the same standard to similarly manipulated US youngsters. And, please check the definitions of words like 'massacre' and 'genocide' before using them. They're powerful words that require understanding, not just casual usage.

The hypocrisy of politicians and MSM in the Global West is blatant and stunning. They decry and denigrate the actions of students on US campuses. However, during the riots (sorry, “peaceful protests” as always described by Western politicians and media) in 2019 - 20 they openly supported violent insurrection. Nancy Pelosi went so far as to call the violence a “beautiful sight” and Ted Cruz visited Hong Kong to offer his support. Various politicians, mostly from the UK, offered their considered opinion as to what the Hong Kong government should do during the fiery occupation of PolyU; always described as a “siege” by the Global West. And the authorities in charge of occupied universities actively opposed the police from entering their properties. One has not seen any opinion offered on the protests and arrests in the US by Human Rights Watch or Amnesty International; both organisations were vociferous in their condemnation of the Hong Kong Police. Supporters of the rioters (sorry, “peaceful protesters” as always described by Western politicians and media) always point to the night the urbanite rioters tried to take their mayhem and violence to Yuen Long. They were successfully opposed by Yuen Long residents. There was footage, removed by Western media, of the urban rioters taunting the Yuen Long men who were behind a grill. Then they got the grill up and “Oh dear, they are coming for us! The police must stop them! Help, police!”. Perhaps the “Hong Kong Free Press” will no doubt be receiving breathless copy about the US protests from its star reporter Kong Tsung-gan. That is a pen name for an American, Brian Patrick Kern. You've unsubscribed? Bye bye, go back to your Global West media comfort zone.

Yet Western hypocrites cheered the rioters and condemned the police. Now the U.S. student protest is moral and justified, and the police is violently cracking down, but the Western hypocrites now condemn the students and urge the police to be more violent. If you still don't understand, and if you are an adult, go check your cognitive ability. You may be IQ challenged.

Too simple a comparison between what happened in campuses in US and in HK by a few minutes video. ICC court has a judgement on the Israel invasion of Gaza and the accusation of genocide of Palestinians. It urged Israel to do its utmost possible to minimize civilian casualty in their military action; and at the same time requested Hamas to release the hostage held on 7 Oct. Judicially there was no unilateral won. SCMP editor seems to me to praise the humanity of the protesters in US campus and riddle the critics to what similarly carried out on campuses in HK by the Police in HK. The 2019 protest in HK was only eggs to the wall. That´s why most opinions of the liberal newspapers in the west stand with protesters in HK.
