Well, seems like film Richard Pryor's "The Toy" is american remake of the popular french film Le jouet (The Toy), 1972 with Pierre Richard. I watched it as a kid and loved it) It was a hit so it makes sense USA made their own version. New movie is probably inspired by original, since it's french.
Everybody talking about american film, but that film itself was a remake of a french movie. Le Nouveau Jouet is new version of Le jouet(1972), hence "Nouveau". Main role played by Pierre Richard, great comedian.
The first time I encountered this story was in a movie starring Richard Pryor called the toy, this is a remake of that movie
The Toy is a 1982 American comedy film directed by Richard Donner. The film stars Richard Pryor, Jackie Gleason, Ned Beatty, Scott Schwartz, Teresa Ganzel, ..Unemployed journalist Jack Brown (Richard Pryor) is attempting to make ends meet as the night janitor in a ritzy department store owned by Louisiana millionaire U.S. Bates (Jackie Gleason). On his annual visit to his father's store, Bates' pampered son, Eric (Scott Schwartz), is told he can choose one item in the toy department. To everyone's horror, he chooses Jack. Paid handsomely to spend one week with the troublesome kid, Jack soon discovers the roots of Eric's bad behavior.
Actually it's a remake of another French movie Le Jouet (The toy) from 1972 which is why the movie is called Le Nouveau Jouet (The new toy) :)

they made the changes needed to remake The Toy if i knew French i would watch it to see if it has some of the joke like the boys name is Master Bate's
Same thought. The toy left me questioning if anything really changed at the end. But this was a good movie that didn't change it too much, just enough to cover what was left unsaid in the original.

I feel they are grown doesn't imply they don't need help too. They just might not stay around long either without help. He brought healing to them bought though
